PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods’ Former Caddie Reveals the Decision Behind the Move

PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods and his former caddie Steve Williams formed one of the most successful player-caddie partnerships in golf history. But when Woods first approached Williams in 1999, the veteran caddie did not immediately accept the offer.

On the High Performance podcast in April, Williams revealed that he took 24 hours to consider Woods’ offer after meeting Woods at his Orlando home in March 1999. He later agreed to join his team.

“I just didn’t sort of say to him when I was at his house, I didn’t tell him right there and then I was going to take the job, but I thought about it for 24 hours,” said Williams.

After parting ways with original tour caddie Mike “Fluff” Cowan, Woods reportedly chose Williams as his next caddie.

Williams knew the standards of Woods and was up for the challenge. The Cypress-born golfer was about 23 years old when they met and was already eyeing a historic career.

“I knew he had lofty goals. We talked about what his goals were. It was fantastic to see someone had such a strong desire to break Jack’s record of 18 majors and you know his whole career and even you know 99’ he’s still only a young guy on the tour only been on the tour for four years and that and but you know he had strong goals and and and wanted to do you know create a legacy,” said Williams.

The pair went on to dominate the sport. Their partnership reached new heights during the Tiger Slam, when Woods won four consecutive majors between 2000 and 2001. Woods ultimately won 13 of his 15 major titles and countless other tournaments with Williams on the bag.

Tiger Woods

Their relationship went beyond the golf course, as Woods became the best man at Williams’ wedding and also attended many of Williams’ dirt track races

However, the pair fell out in 2011, bringing their 13-year partnership to an end.

On July 20, 2011, Woods announced that he had decided to make a change and end Williams’ tenure as his caddie.

“Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change. After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock,” Williams wrote on his website.

Williams was already working with Australia’s Adam Scott even before the split, when Woods was recovering from injuries. Following the fallout, Williams joined forces with Scott.

Scott lifted the 2013 Masters title with Williams on the bag. In 2017, the duo split before reuniting in 2022.

Amazing: For all the years spent analyzing Tiger Woods’ swing, major golf championships and public struggles, Dottie Pepper remembers a different kind of moment. Not a putt at Augusta. Not a fist pump on Sunday. Just a phone call.

Tiger Woods: The former LPGA star and longtime broadcaster shared an emotional story on the Talk Birdie To Me podcast about her late high school friend Kim Galvin, who battled a rare form of cancer.

Pepper said Galvin was a competitive athlete, a lawyer and the kind of friend who held her accountable when she needed it most.

“Two years ago, I lost one of my dearest friends from high school,” Pepper said. “Competitive athlete, lawyer; she would call me on the carpet if I was being an idiot.

“She passed away from a very rare form of cancer. But she took up golf because she loved the fight in Tiger Woods.”

That admiration led Pepper to try something she was not even sure she could pull off. She did not have Woods’ phone number, so she reached out through former Open champion Ian Baker-Finch and asked for help.

“I don’t even have Tiger’s number in my phone,” Pepper said. “I called in a favor through Ian Baker-Finch, because I knew Tiger meant so much to my friend Kim Galvin.

“Tiger Woods picked up the phone, and I swear she lived another six months because of that conversation,” Pepper added.

“Those are the special moments. It’s not even on the golf course. It’s those personal moments that mean so much.”

Charlie Woods

Why the story landed so strongly

The story resonated because Woods’ public image has rarely been simple. He’s one of the greatest golfers in history, a 15-time major champion and the author of one of sport’s most unforgettable comebacks at the 2019 Masters.

He’s also a figure whose career has been shadowed by personal controversy, injury battles and intense scrutiny. Pepper’s account didn’t erase any of that complexity.

Instead, it offered a reminder that the most meaningful parts of an athlete’s influence often happen far from cameras.

For Galvin, Woods represented resilience, pain, recovery and competitive defiance. A conversation with him, at a time when she was fighting for her life, became something Pepper still struggles to describe without emotion.

Pepper said some of her own favorite memories of covering Woods were not tied to victories.

“Some of my favorite Tiger memories had nothing to do with him winning golf tournaments,” Pepper continued. “It was as Tiger as a human being.

“It was talking about his dogs, or having the sweat running down every crevice in your body. It was the moment the facade started to crack. That’s what I loved about covering Tiger.”

tiger woods

he softer side of Tiger’s legacy

Woods’ philanthropic work has also been part of his story since the beginning of his professional career. He and his parents founded the TGR Foundation in 1996, with its work focused on education, learning opportunities and community development.

But Pepper’s story wasn’t about a foundation, a public appearance or a formal charity event. It was about a private gesture that reached one person at exactly the right time.

That’s why it felt so powerful. In a career often reduced to records, scandals and comebacks, Pepper offered a quieter snapshot of Woods: a man who understood what his voice could mean to someone who had drawn strength from his fight.

The message Nelly Korda received from Tiger Woods before winning the U.S. Open

Tiger Woods : She claims her second Major of 2026, a year in which she has added two more victories and three runner-up finishes in eight appearances

In one of the sanctuaries of golf in the United States, Riviera, in Los Angeles, Nelly Korda lifted yet another title to the sky that can make room for her stardom. The American and world No. 1 won the US Open to reaffirm her crushing dominance in 2026, where she has won four titles, including the other Major that has been played, the Chevron, and has finished second on three other occasions. In the eighth tournament she played, she finished eighth. In the entire season, only nine players can say they have finished ahead of her in any tournament.

Korda came back over the course of the other three days from Thursday’s slip-up. After posting a 73 she was seven shots off the lead, then fired matching 67s on Friday and Saturday to reach a share of the lead and head into the final round with every chance, in search of the fourth Major of her career at the age of 27. (Results)

Before going out to play on Sunday, Korda received a text message from Tiger Woods telling her: “Finish it off!” It was one more, albeit a significant one, in a kind of positive therapy that works for her just as well as the grip change recommended by her sister Jessica, a golfer who is now pregnant. All week she had been writing herself messages on the bathroom mirror like: “Whatever happens, will happen. Just give 100 percent.”

Tiger Woods

And that was the spirit when she saw that with six holes to play, the Korean In Gee Chun had opened up a two-shot lead. With a string of pars, she kept building while the rest began to falter. That brought her to the 17th hole, a par 5, where a three-meter putt allowed her to sink a birdie that left her as the sole leader of the US Open, one shot ahead of England’s Charley Hull and Mexico’s Gaby Lopez. She played the final hole in such an orthodox way that the last putt, from less than a meter, went in through the back door, but it went in.
It had been 13 years since any golfer had won the first two majors of a season.
Julia López Ramírez, the only Spaniard among the five who played the second major of the season to make the cut, shot 75 in the final round and finished 60th. After winning all the American Majors, Korda still has the British and the Evian left to complete the women’s career Super Grand Slam—there are five—which has only been achieved by the Australian Karrie Webb. In addition to being an Olympic champion.

Vanessa Trump Announces Breast Cancer Diagnosis Amid Tiger Woods’ Ongoing Troubles

Vanessa Trump revealed Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, sharing the deeply personal news in an emotional social media statement that immediately prompted an outpouring of support from family members, friends, and followers.

The announcement arrives during a turbulent stretch in her personal life, with boyfriend Tiger Woods also facing mounting scrutiny after his recent legal and health-related struggles.

Vanessa, the former wife of Donald Trump Jr., confirmed the diagnosis in an Instagram post while asking for privacy as she begins treatment.

“I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer,” she wrote. “While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m working closely with my medical team on a treatment plan.”

The 48-year-old added that doctors had already performed a medical procedure earlier this week.

“I would like to thank my doctors for performing a procedure earlier this week on me,” Vanessa shared.

Despite the frightening diagnosis, she emphasized that she remains optimistic and focused on recovery while leaning on loved ones for support.

“I’m staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me,” she said.

“Thank you for your kindness and support it truly means more than I can express,” Vanessa continued. “I kindly ask for privacy as I focus on my health and recovery.”

The message quickly drew supportive responses across social media, including from Ivanka Trump, who commented publicly on the post.

“Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery. Love you mama,” Ivanka wrote.

Vanessa’s daughter, Kai Trump, also posted a heartfelt tribute alongside a smiling photo of the pair together.

“Strongest person I know. Love you,” Kai wrote.

Vanessa’s health announcement has also placed fresh attention on her relationship with Woods, which became public earlier this year.

In March 2025, Vanessa confirmed she was dating the golf icon after months of speculation surrounding the pair.

Both maintain homes in Jupiter, and reports indicated they had grown increasingly close over the last year.

The relationship developed during a difficult chapter for Woods himself.

The 15-time major champion returned to the United States on May 14 following a six-week stay at a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland.

The rehab stint came after Woods’ March 27 car crash and subsequent DUI arrest, which sparked another wave of concern surrounding the legendary golfer.

Woods, now 50, has endured a series of physical setbacks and personal controversies throughout the latter stages of his career.

Multiple surgeries, chronic injuries, and off-course scrutiny have significantly limited his appearances on the PGA Tour in recent years.

Tiger Woods

Meanwhile, Vanessa has largely kept a lower public profile since divorcing Donald Trump Jr. in 2018 after 13 years of marriage. The former couple share five children together: Kai, Donald III, Tristan, Spencer, and Chloe.

Just last week, Vanessa appeared publicly alongside members of the Trump family while celebrating Kai’s prep school graduation in Florida.

Now, attention has shifted dramatically toward her health battle.

Breast cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in the United States, though advancements in screening and treatment have continued improving survival rates significantly in recent years.

For Vanessa, the coming months are expected to center on treatment and recovery while surrounded by family support. Her announcement also serves as another reminder of how quickly personal struggles can emerge even for figures constantly living in the public eye.

PGA champion discusses idolising Tiger Woods, his work ethic and wife’s influence after Aronimink glory: Aaron Rai

Aaron Rai was delighted to see his hard work pay off as he followed “idol” Tiger Woods in becoming a winner of the PGA Championship.

Rai’s three-stroke victory at Aronimink Golf Club made him just the second Englishman to claim the title at this major and the first in over a century, after Jim Barnes, who triumphed in 1916 and 1919.

The 31-year-old – the first non-American to triumph at the PGA Championship since Australia’s Jason Day in 2015 after a decade of home dominance – was a popular victor in Pennsylvania.

Xander Schauffle, the 2024 PGA champion, praised his work ethic while Jon Rahm, who finished in a share of second place on six under par, said he has only ever heard “good or great things” about Rai.

The man himself was just ecstatic to have followed in the footsteps of Woods – a four-time winner of the PGA Championship, in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007 – with Rai having watched footage of the 15-time major champion frequently as a child.

Speaking in his press conference, Rai told reporters: “I don’t think we still have the tapes, but we used to watch them a hell of a lot, probably two, three times a week, if not more.

Tiger Woods

“He’s obviously such an icon and such a huge figure in the game. At that point, this was someone who was super-human, who was very much someone that I really idolised.

Rai – whose final-round, five-under 65 included a 70ft birdie putt at 17 and a 40ft eagle at the ninth – credited the upbringing he was given by his parents for his diligence and the personality traits that were praised so heavily by his peers after his win at Aronimink.

He then added: “Golf in itself is an extremely humbling game. There’s so much hard work and discipline that goes into acquiring the skills to become better.

“You also realise that nothing is ever given in this game at any point, whether it’s a tournament, a practice round, even away from a tournament week. All of these things have to be done diligently and require focus.

“There are a lot of guys who work extremely hard. The level on the PGA Tour is so strong, so it is a prerequisite of what is required to try and compete out here.

Tiger Woods, girlfriend Vanessa Trump going strong after golf star’s rehab stint: They Are in Love

Tiger Woods is reportedly is “happy” to be back home with girlfriend Vanessa Trump after taking pain-killer treatment “seriously” in Switzerland, sources told People.

Woods, 50, returned to Florida on May 14 after residing at a rehab facility in Zurich for six weeks following his car crash and DUI arrest on March 27.

“Tiger took his trip seriously and is all about continuing his recovery and putting this chapter behind him,” a source in Jupiter told the outlet.

“He is in good spirits and also can’t wait to put the legal issues to rest,” the source added.

The source noted to People that nothing has changed between Woods and 48-year-old Trump since his absence, reporting they’re “still serious” and “in love.”

“Vanessa and Tiger are in love, still serious, and happy to see each other,” the source said.

The insider added Trump “is eager to help him continue with his progress and move beyond any more public scandals — which they both dislike intensely.”

She also leads an eventful life outside of her relationship with Woods.

“Vanessa is a busy mom, which for the most part does not get in the way of the overall vibe of her relationship with Tiger, [who is] also busy with his life, golf, charity, video game work projects and kids,” the source said.

Tiger Woods

“Each was glad to see the other, although they kept in touch while he was away,” a second source told People. “Both of them have responsibilities outside of their personal lives and that factors [into] how much time they can spend together. But each has an ex to share the kids with, so they have had enough time to keep the romance going.”

Trump’s five children have also become “like family” to Woods, the initial source added.

Trump shares five children with ex-husband Donald Trump Jr. — 19-year-old Kai, 17-year-old Donald, 14-year-old Tristan, 13-year-old Spencer and Chloe, 11.

Woods has a daughter, Sam Alexis, 18, and son Charlie, 17, with ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

Woods has become especially close with Kai, who is “a dedicated golfer” around similar age to the professional golfer’s kids, People reported.

Due to his arrest — during which he was found with two hydrocodone pills in his left pocket — Woods missed the Masters, though he stated he was “hoping to” play in the major tournament in Augusta. An additional source in the golf community told the publication Woods is excited to get back into the game and is putting a great deal of focus into his fitness routine.

“Golf is very much on Tiger’s mind and will be in [the] coming months as he gets back to it here in whatever ways he can,” the source said. “Golf is who he is, and those in the sport respect and like him. He will do whatever he has to to get back in whatever way he can in light of his injuries and age.

“He is not a quitter.”

While Woods has been encouraged to hire a driver, a source told People that they “doubt” he will do so.

Woods previously broke his silence in a post on social media four days following the crash.

Charlie Woods

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” he wrote in the statement. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

Judge Gives Prosecutors Access to Tiger Woods’ Prescription Medication Records

Tiger Woods — A Martin County, Florida, judge ruled Tuesday that state prosecutors can access Tiger Woods’ prescription medication records as part of the ongoing DUI case involving the 15-time major champion.

County Judge Darren Steele approved a subpoena requesting “all prescription medication on file,” including the date and time prescriptions were filled, the type of medication, number of pills prescribed, dosage amounts, instructions for use, refill dates, and all warnings — including those related to operating a motor vehicle while taking the medication. The subpoena covers prescriptions filled between Jan. 1, 2026, and March 27, 2026.

On April 14, Woods’ attorney, Douglas Duncan, challenged the request, arguing that “Mr. Woods has a Constitutional right to privacy,” while acknowledging that the right is “not absolute” if prosecutors can prove the records are relevant to the criminal investigation.

Duncan also requested a protective order if the court ruled in favor of the state, asking that the prescription records be reviewed confidentially only by prosecutors, law enforcement officials, expert witnesses, and the defense team.

Woods, 50, was arrested on suspicion of DUI on March 27 by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office after a crash involving his SUV and a truck on South Beach Road in Jupiter Island, Florida. Authorities also cited Woods for refusing to submit to a DUI test.

According to deputies, Woods admitted at the scene that he had taken “a few” prescription medications. Officers reportedly discovered two hydrocodone pills — a prescription painkiller — in his pants pocket during the arrest.

On April 1, a judge approved Woods’ request to leave the county for “comprehensive inpatient treatment.” In a public statement, Woods said, “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

BREAKING: Donald Trump Speaks Out on Tiger Woods’ Florida DUI Rollover Crash — Says Vanessa’s Boyfriend Faces “A Lifetime of Pain”

President Trump told The Post that he spoke with golfer Tiger Woods following his latest DUI arrest in Florida — saying the legendary athlete “lives a life of pain” due to existing physical injuries, but is “doing great.”

“I have” talked with Woods, Trump said in a Tuesday phone interview. “I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good.”

The 50-year-old golfer — who is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. – allegedly had two hydrocodone pills in his pocket when he flipped his luxury Land Rover in Jupiter Island, Florida, last Friday.

“He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” Trump said.

“He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”

The president added: “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.”

Investigators revealed the embattled golf great was likely under the influence of “some type of medication or drug” when he clipped a truck and then overturned his SUV just minutes from his home.

Two pills, marked as “M367,” were found in Woods’ left pant pocket after he crawled out of his flipped Land Rover, according to an arrest report obtained by The Post.

Charlie Woods

The meds were determined to be hydrocodone — an opioid used to treat chronic pain, the report stated.

Woods’ eyes were “bloodshot and glassy,” and his pupils were “extremely dilated” in the immediate aftermath of the crash, the report added.

The athelete — who is worth $1.5 billion, according to Forbes — was also “sweating profusely,” “had hiccups during the entire investigation” and his movements were “lethargic and slow,” the report stated.

The golfing phenomenon, who agreed to undergo a slew of field sobriety tests at the scene, confirmed to officers that he took prescription medication — inlcuding ealier that morning –and noted his prior medical history included “seven back surgeries and over 20 operations on his leg.”

A breath test ultimately came back with no signs of alcohol, but Woods refused to undergo a urinalysis test at the scene, the report stated.

Woods, for his part, told cops he lost control after looking at his phone and changing the radio station.

He claimed he didn’t see the vehicle in front of him slowing down before he clipped it.

Woods was ultimately charged with driving under the influence with property damage and refusing a lawful test. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday.

He once again retained Attorney Douglas Duncan, who represented the troubled golfer during his infamous 2017 DUI legal battle.

During the 2017 bust, Woods was found asleep behind the wheel with the engine running, the right blinker on, two flat tires, and light damage to the driver’s side.

In February 2021, he ran his SUV off a coastal road in Los Angeles at a high rate of speed, leading to multiple leg and ankle injuries.

Just when the golf world thought it had seen it all, Charlie Woods delivered another jaw-dropping moment — one that left even his legendary father, Tiger Woods, visibly stunned.

The young prodigy, who has been steadily carving out his own identity in the sport, pulled off a move that no one saw coming. Whether it was a fearless shot under pressure or a bold decision that defied conventional play, Charlie once again proved that he is far more than just “Tiger’s son.” He is becoming a headline of his own.

Spectators and fans alike were left in disbelief as Charlie executed a play that showcased maturity far beyond his years. The confidence, the composure, and the sheer audacity of the moment echoed the greatness many have come to associate with his father — yet there was something uniquely his own about it.

Even Tiger, known for his unshakable demeanor on the course, couldn’t hide his reaction. Cameras caught a mix of surprise and pride — a rare glimpse into what it means to watch your own legacy evolve in real time.

Golf insiders are starting to whisper what many are already thinking: this isn’t just potential — it’s the early stages of something truly special.

Tiger Woods

Social media erupted within minutes. Fans, analysts, and even fellow professionals couldn’t stop talking about the moment. Some called it “unreal,” others labeled it “a glimpse into the future of golf.” But one thing was clear — everyone was watching.

And perhaps that’s what makes this story even more compelling. Charlie Woods isn’t just growing into the spotlight — he’s commanding it.

If this latest moment is any indication, the journey of Charlie Woods is only just beginning. With each appearance, he continues to raise expectations — and then somehow exceed them.

As for Tiger Woods, he may have built one of the greatest careers the sport has ever seen. But now, he’s witnessing something even more remarkable: the rise of the next chapter.

And if Charlie keeps “doing it again,” the golf world better be ready — because the future might arrive sooner than anyone expected.

Welcome Back, Tiger Woods: The Masters Tournament Has Revealed the Biggest Clue Yet

Tiger Woods: There’s a feeling in the air at The Masters Tournament that fans know all too well — anticipation, nostalgia, and just a hint of disbelief. Because once again, the conversation is circling back to one name: Tiger Woods.

For months, speculation has swirled about whether Woods would make another competitive appearance at Augusta National Golf Club. Injuries, surgeries, and long stretches away from the game have made every potential return feel uncertain. Yet now, the biggest clue so far suggests something remarkable — Tiger isn’t just thinking about coming back… he’s preparing for it.

The Masters doesn’t deal in coincidences. Every invite, every practice round appearance, every subtle shift in messaging carries weight. And this year, tournament signals have been louder than ever. From insider whispers to visible preparations tied directly to Woods’ schedule, all signs point toward a return that once seemed unlikely.

While there’s been no dramatic announcement, the tone has shifted. Quiet confidence has replaced cautious doubt. Those close to the situation suggest Woods has been ramping up his readiness, carefully managing his body while sharpening the parts of his game that made him legendary

If there’s one place where Tiger Woods can defy logic, it’s Augusta.

This is where he authored one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, winning the 2019 Masters against all odds. The course doesn’t just suit his game — it understands it. Experience, course management, and mental strength matter more here than raw physical dominance, and those are areas where Woods still excels.

Charlie Woods

Unlike other tournaments on the calendar, PGA Tour events come and go. But The Masters is different. It’s tradition, legacy, and pressure rolled into one. And for Woods, it’s home turf in the deepest competitive sense.

Of course, no discussion about Tiger Woods is complete without addressing the obvious: his health.

Since his devastating car accident in 2021, every step Woods takes on a golf course has been scrutinized. Walking 72 holes at Augusta is no small task, even for fully healthy players. For Woods, it represents perhaps the biggest hurdle of all.

Yet that’s what makes this moment so compelling. The signals coming out of The Masters aren’t about a ceremonial appearance — they hint at genuine intent. If Tiger shows up, it won’t be just to wave to the crowd. It will be to compete.

A Tiger Woods return to The Masters isn’t just another storyline — it’s the storyline.

It would electrify the sport, draw global attention, and inject a level of drama that only Woods can create. Younger players may dominate headlines week to week, but when Tiger is in the field, everything changes. Ratings surge. Energy shifts. History feels within reach again.

And perhaps most importantly, it reminds fans why they fell in love with golf in the first place.

Nothing is officially confirmed — yet. But The Masters has dropped its biggest hint so far, and it’s one that’s impossible to ignore.

Tiger Woods is getting closer.

And if Augusta is indeed preparing to welcome him back, the question won’t just be whether he can compete…

It will be whether we’re about to witness another chapter in one of the greatest stories sports has ever seen.
