Anthony Joshua at the Crossroads – The Defining Chapter That Could Reshape a Heavyweight Icon’s Legacy

Anthony Joshua has never been short on moments that define eras. Olympic gold medalist. Unified heavyweight champion. Global superstar. And now, standing once again at the edge of uncertainty, Joshua faces perhaps the most important phase of his career — not about belts alone, but about legacy.

After years spent at the very top of boxing’s most brutal division, Joshua’s journey has become one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless scrutiny. Every move he makes now is dissected, every word weighed, every potential opponent debated as if it could decide history itself.

From the moment Joshua detonated onto the professional scene, he carried expectations few fighters ever experience. Sold-out stadiums, record-breaking pay-per-views, and a nation desperate for its next heavyweight king followed him everywhere. When he unified titles, he was hailed as unstoppable. When defeats came, they were magnified beyond the ring.

Losses to Oleksandr Usyk shifted the narrative. No longer the untouchable powerhouse, Joshua became the fighter searching for answers — tactically, mentally, emotionally. But rather than retreat, he chose to rebuild, working with new trainers, reshaping his style, and attempting to balance raw power with patience and control.

Anthony Joshua

While whispers of retirement have hovered around him, those closest to Joshua insist this is not a man ready to walk away quietly. Instead, this chapter feels like a calculated pause — a moment to reassess risk versus reward.

Joshua no longer needs boxing financially. Fame, wealth, and status are already secured. What remains is something far harder to obtain: closure. One more run. One defining win. One night that reminds the world who Anthony Joshua is when everything clicks.

The timing could not be tougher. The heavyweight division is stacked with danger — Oleksandr Usyk’s technical brilliance, Tyson Fury’s mind games and size, hungry contenders circling like sharks, each seeing Joshua as the ultimate scalp.

Yet this is also what makes the decision so compelling. A single victory against the right opponent could propel Joshua back into title contention overnight. One misstep, however, could close the door for good.

Terence Crawford

For Joshua, this isn’t just about reclaiming belts. It’s about how he will be remembered. As a champion who dominated, fell, and rose again — or as one who stepped away just before the final test.

Boxing history is unforgiving, but it also rewards courage. And if Anthony Joshua has proven anything across his career, it’s that he has never shied away from the spotlight when the stakes are highest.

The question now isn’t whether Anthony Joshua can fight again.
It’s whether he’s ready to risk everything one last time — to define his legacy not by defeat or doubt, but by how he chose to face the end.

“Arrest warrant exposes disturbing details about Gervonta Davis’ alleged behavior towards a woman.”

Law enforcement documents which led to an arrest warrant for WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis Wednesday describe his alleged abusive treatment of a woman who sustained physical injuries before fleeing his alleged attempt to abduct her.

Baltimore’s Davis, 31, is being sought by police in Miami Gardens, Florida, it was announced at a news conference Wednesday. It’s a hunt that imperils not only the WBA lightweight champion’s freedom but whether he will fight again any time soon.

The documents reviewed by BoxingScene show that Davis is facing counts of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping for his alleged October 27 abuse of the woman, who has already sued the unbeaten three-division champion for physically injuring and threatening her after entering her workplace around 4:15 a.m.

“The victim stated that the subject [Davis] grabbed her by her hair with one hand and grabbed her by the throat with the other,” Miami Gardens police detective Gary Florencio told Miami-Dade County judge Andrea R. Wolfson last week.

“She further stated that [Davis] escorted her down the stairway and toward the VIP parking garage, while maintaining his grip on her head and neck. During the incident, [Davis] allegedly stated, ‘You think that I would not find you?’”

The woman, whose name was redacted in documents reviewed by BoxingScene, told police she has known Davis since 2022 and was in a relationship with him for five months.

Gervonta Davis

“She stated the relationship ended one month prior to the incident,” Judge Wolfson wrote in the statement of facts in support of the arrest warrant. “She subsequently blocked all forms of communication with him. [She] advised there is a history of unreported domestic violence between them.

“[She] stated she sustained minor injuries, including bruising to her left arm, from when [Davis] grabbed her, which was visible at the time of the report. She confirmed she sought medical attention for her injuries.”

During the incident, police said the woman “tried to calm [Davis] down, but he kept asking her who she thought she was ignoring him. [Davis] told [the woman] she was leaving him and he did not care what she had to say,” after she previously ended the relationship.

Davis was in trouble earlier this year in another domestic violence episode that led to the scrapping of his planned summer rematch against Washington’s Lamont Roach Jnr, who fought Davis to a draw March 1 at New York’s Barclays Center.

As they neared the parking garage, Davis told the woman he was taking her with him, she told police, and she warned him there were cameras in the garage, police said. When Davis let her go to retrieve his vehicle, the woman “took this opportunity to run back inside and tell her manager what had happened,” according to the arrest warrant statement.

“She also showed me text messages she had received in the past from [Davis] threatening her with death,” Detective Florencio informed the judge.

Police said garage video obtained November 3 “corroborated the details in [the woman’s] statement.

Terence Crawford

“In the videos, [police can] see [Davis] approach [her] and grab her by her hair. … [Davis] is seen pushing and forcing [the woman] down the stairs. … One clip shows [Davis] grabbing the [alleged] victim’s hoodie and pulling her in the direction he wants her to go. In another clip, [Davis holds the woman] by the back of the neck, leading her through an empty part of the club. The final video [shows] … [the woman] is able to run away.”

Three possible witnesses were observed on the video, police said.

One reported witnessing a prior incident when “[Davis] grabbed [the alleged victim] by the neck at a club in Miami Beach.

Detective Florencio said there’s sufficient probable cause to arrest Davis because he “used force to abduct [the woman] and in the process battered her. [Davis] did not release [the woman] and his intent was to make her leave the location with him against her will.”

Davis hasn’t fought since the March draw, as contenders and their handlers await a decision from his promoter, Premier Boxing Champions, and the WBA regarding his status.

Multiple attempts by BoxingScene to reach PBC officials Wednesday were unsuccessful.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who represents the WBA’s top-ranked contender Floyd Schofield Jnr, said it’s time for the WBA to strip Davis of his belt.
Anthony Joshua“I really do hope and wish Gervonta Davis gets his act together because, as a fighter, he is very talented, and I admire him inside the ring,” De La Hoya told BoxingScene.
“But it is now time for the WBA to do the right thing and position Floyd Schofield for the world title.”

Hearn: No Matter The Pressure or Opinions Around Him, Only Joshua can Decide What Happens Next, Anthony Joshua’s boxing Future Comes Down To One Voice — His Own.

Anthony Joshua is the ‘only voice’ who can make a decision about his future in the sport, says promoter Eddie Hearn.

Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Adoyele, died after a fatal car crash in Nigeria last month. Joshua was also in the car and required hospital treatment for minor injuries before returning to the UK.

When asked whether he expects Joshua to take some considerable time off boxing, Hearn told Sky Sports News: “Yeah, I do.”

“That’s not a conversation that I think anyone’s comfortable in having in terms of asking what could be next or what he’s thinking.

“That’s something that has to come next. You need someone to have their time and to just be left alone, really, to get over, like I said, not just a terrible incident, but just one that you can never prepare for in life. You never, ever want to see anybody you know in any kind of this situation.

“It’s heartbreaking. And when the time is right, I believe he will make his decision. You’ll hear it from him.

“The future of Anthony Joshua will be told by Anthony Joshua. And that’s the only voice you should listen to in that respect.

“And we’ll give him his time to make that decision and to heal specifically in many different ways.

“What happened to him is not normal and it’s heartbreaking for everybody involved, particularly the families of Sina and Latz, who were so incredibly loved.”

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist took to social media to post a tribute to Adoyele and Ghami earlier this month.

AJ will ‘take his time’ before making his decision

“I think AJ, as we’ve seen in the past on boxing-related stuff, he’s always a kind of brave-faced guy,” Hearn told Sky Sports News.

This, of course, is very different to that. But I know that he’ll take his time and he’ll need his time physically and mentally, emotionally, spiritually before he makes a decision on his future.

I do think he’s going to want to return to boxing, but that’ll be his decision when the time’s right. It’s certainly not a conversation that I’ll be having with him anytime soon.

“The only conversation now is [asking], are you okay?

“Our thoughts are, of course, not just with the families of Sina and Latz, but with AJ as well. We pray for him every day.”

Again Serious Allegations Emerge as Warrant Is Said to Be Issued for Gervonta Davis

The Miami Gardens Police Department announced at a news conference Wednesday that it issued an arrest warrant for Gervonta Davis related to an alleged domestic violence incident involving an ex-girlfriend late in October.
Emmanuel Jeanty, executive officer for the Miami Gardens PD, stated that the MGPD and the United States Marshals Service’s fugitive task force were working together to locate Davis, who resides in the Miami area.
Davis, 31, will be charged with battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping because video surveillance footage allegedly corroborated Courtney Rossel’s account of what happened the night of October 27.
Rossel alleged Davis grabbed her by her head and throat and took her against her will out of Tootsie’s Cabaret, a Miami Gardens gentlemen’s club where she was employed as a VIP cocktail server. She claimed Davis dragged her out of the back exit and into a nearby parking garage, where he assaulted her.

Rossel filed a police report and a lawsuit against Davis soon thereafter.
Davis, a Baltimore native with a lengthy history of legal troubles, was eventually removed from a high-profile fight with Jake Paul due to these allegations. The WBA lightweight champion was scheduled to oppose Paul in a cruiserweight exhibition Netflix was to stream November 14 from Kaseya Center in Miami.Gervonta Davis
Rossel also alleged Davis abused her on several prior occasions during their five-month relationship, which she said ended about a month before October 27. She took legal action just two months after domestic violence charges involving another woman, the mother of two of Davis’ three children, were dropped.
Gervonta Davis was previously imprisoned in his hometown of Baltimore in June 2023 for violating terms of his home detention sentence, the consequence of causing a hit-and-run accident in November 2020. He was released after spending 44 days in jail.
The troubled Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), one of boxing’s biggest stars in the United States, has fought just twice since he was released from jail in July 2023. The heavily favored Davis settled for a controversial majority draw with Lamont Roach in his last fight, which took place March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Shock of 2026; Top 10 Shaken Up in January 2026 After Terence Crawford’s Stunning Retirement

Typical, isn’t it? As soon as we all pretty much agreed on who the best ‘pound for pound’ boxer in the world is, Terence Crawford decides to walk away.

We can’t give Terence Crawford too much criticism for the decision, however. History has shown that due to a combination of pride, arrogance and greed, most elite fighters stick around far too long. They continue to fight until Father Time gives them a painful reminder that nothing lasts forever.

‘Bud’ went out on top, on his own terms. He finished as an unbeaten 42-0 (31) modern great whose last dance was a history-making win over Canelo Alvarez in September. With that impressive points win over Canelo, the brilliant southpaw from Nebraska not only acquired generational wealth but became the only three-weight undisputed king of the four-belt era, having won world titles in five divisions in total.

At the age of 38, Crawford probably realised there were no more mountains to climb. And while retirements in combat sports are notoriously fickle, there is a sense that ‘Bud’ is getting out at the right time and certainly on his own terms.

Crawford’s retirement in December has opened up the P4P debate once more, and two Japanese stars on our list now look set for a showdown in 2026 after contrasting displays on the post-Christmas ‘Night Of The Samurai’ card.

Oleksandr Usyk

Here is the Furyjoshua.com take on the current top 10 best fighters in boxing

P4P Rankings: Current top 10

1 Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine)

  • Record: 24-0 (15)
  • Titles: WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

The outrageous skills, ring intelligence and unparalleled stamina mean Usyk is now top of our ‘Pound-for-Pound’ pile again in the wake of Crawford’s announcement to retire. The Ukrainian legend is a very strong, compact, durable, and skilled fighter who can box on the front and back foot. He also has a granite chin, which helps. His jab is an absolute wand, and he uses it to mesmerise opponents.

While he is a two-time undisputed heavyweight champ (and three-time undisputed king) his next move is unclear after he dropped his WBO title – since picked up by Fabio Wardley. All the signs suggest he will carry on boxing into 2026, with a possible fight against Deontay Wilder next.

2 Naoya Inoue (Japan)

  • Record: 32-0 (27)
  • Titles: WBC, IBF, WBA and WBO world super-bantamweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

Now we may have been in the minority, but we felt as virtual shutouts in undisputed world title fights go, Inoue’s latest display was a touch uninspiring against David Picasso in Saudi Arabia.

Picasso was unbeaten in 33 going in – with his one draw coming in just his fifth fight several years ago – and so he was dangerous in the sense that he didn’t know how to lose. However, Inoue was always the boss in Riyadh, with his movement and defensive skills a thing of beauty at times. However, the absence of feints was really noticeable. At his absolute peak it was the way ‘The Monster’ set up the highlight reel KOs that made them so devastating.

And while he is not in danger of going down the Naseem ‘Fell in love with his own power too much and ignored the basics’ Hamed route anytime soon based on that Picasso win, Team Inoue must understand that bigger fighters will handle his power a lot easier. That said, when you have as much craft and creative offense as he does you don’t always have to chase the KO. His defence in the pocket was exceptional in Saudi, and after four fights in one calendar year he can perhaps be forgiven for not turning in yet another A+ performance.

3 Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (USA)

  • Record: 23-0 (16)
  • Titles: WBC, WBA and WBO world super-flyweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

Eddie Hearn set tongues wagging during his latest Riyadh Season trip, with the Matchroom head honcho teasing a potential superfight between Inoue and his man Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez at some point in the next 12 months.

‘Bam’ is still campaigning a few divisions below Inoue as things stand, but Hearn has indicated that they might not “hang around” waiting for the final 115 lbs belt (IBF) due to mandatory challenger Andrew Moloney refusing to step aside. Rodriguez has the frame to suggest he could easily move up to bantamweight and still be effective, but a clash with Inoue would be something else

4 Dmitry Bivol (Russia)

  • Record: 24-1 (12)
  • Titles: IBF, WBO and WBA world light-heavyweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

Bivol has been recovering after back surgery, but we are told his team are planning a tune-up fight before committing to a huge fight in the second half of 2026. Whether that is against eternal rival Artur Beterbiev or the brilliant David Benavidez remains to be seen, but either one would be a spectacular showdown.

5 Artur Beterbiev (Russia)

  • Record: 21-1 (20)
  • Titles: N/A
  • Next Fight: TBC

The brilliant Beterbiev is open to a long-anticipated trilogy fight with long-term rival Bivol or indeed shifting focus to fight Benavidez. Either way he wants to fight, having not been seen punching for pay since February 2025. Such inactivity is not ideal but feels more damaging when you factor in that ‘The Beast from the East’ turns 41 on January 21.

6 Shakur Stevenson (USA)

  • Record: 24-0 (11)
  • Titles: WBC world lightweight champion
  • Next Fight: vs Teofimo Lopez (January 31)

Stevenson – prodigiously gifted but seldom tested – gets the boxing New Year off to a cracking start as he faces Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden (live on DAZN) at the end of the month.

Lopez 22-1 (13) is a worthy dance partner for the unbeaten WBC world lightweight champion southpaw and with both men in their primes, this is a contest that could sizzle.

7 David Benavidez (USA)

  • Record: 31-0 (25)
  • Titles: WBC world light-heavyweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

The Mexican Monster was last seen ruthlessly stopping Anthony Yarde as he defended his WBC light-heavyweight title on November 22. His constant pressure, volume punching, and the fact he keeps coming and walks you down make him one of the safest bets for excitement in the sport today.

The word around the campfire is that his next fight could be a move up in weight against unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez on May 2 (possibly in Las Vegas).

That’s a good fight, but 175 is a much hotter division than cruiserweight and if Benavidez – one of the most exciting fighters in the sport – has ambitions to become the new face of boxing with Canelo’s star now on the wane, he needs a victory over a Beterbiev or a Bivol to solidify his claims.

8 Junto Nakatani (Japan)

  • Record: 32-0 (24)
  • Titles: WBC/IBF world bantamweight champion
  • Next Fight: TBC

Nakatani was pushed all the way in his December super-bantamweight debut against Sebastian Hernandez in Riyadh, winning via unanimous decision by scores of 115-113, 115-113 and a barely believable 118-110.

Hernandez more than played his part in what was a brutal war of attrition, and while the right man won, Nakatani’s P4P credentials took a bit of a hit. However, all roads now lead to a 2026 superfight vs Inoue, and despite not being at his best last time out Nakatani will surely still fancy the job against his fellow countryman.

9 Canelo Alvarez (Mexico)

  • Record: 63-3-2 (39)
  • Titles: N/A
  • Next Fight: TBC

Canelo’s star is on the wane but let’s not pretend he was awful against Crawford. ‘Bud’ won via unanimous decision after 12 rounds but the scores – 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 – reflect that Canelo was always in the fight.

The stardom remains, but he’s getting hit more now, and the punch output has dropped. With a net worth estimated to be around $250-$300million, who knows how motivated he still is, but the fact remains that even at the age of 35 and having boxed as a pro for 20 years, he is still too good for all but a handful of elite fighters.

10 Jaron Ennis (USA)

  • Record: 35-0 (31)
  • Titles: WBA interim super welterweight title
  • Next Fight: TBC

‘Boots’ Ennis finally sits at our P4P top table after knocking on the door for several months. The American held multiple welterweight belts (IBF, WBA, Ring Magazine) after a major unification victory in April 2025, but he has since moved up to 154lbs and vacated those titles. The Philadelphia phenomenon is a brilliant switch-hitter, whose next fight is heavily anticipated to be against Vergil Ortiz Jr, though promoters are still working on the finer detail. Ennis vs Ortiz Jr would sit pretty high on most fans’ 2026 fight wish list, so hopefully Golden Boy and Matchroom can seal the deal.

Hearn: “If Joshua Never Steps Back Into the Ring, Nobody Could Ever Blame Him — But What Could Drive Him to Make That Shocking Decision?”

Matchroom Boxing CEO Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua needs time to grieve before making any decisions on his boxing future – but he does believe the two-time heavyweight world champion will return to the ring, reports britishboxingnews.co.uk.

Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, tragically died in a car crash near Lagos in Nigeria on December 29 after their vehicle collided with a stationary truck on a busy, notoriously dangerous expressway.

Joshua suffered minor injuries and was kept in hospital for two days.

The incident came 10 days after the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist had defeated Jake Paul in Miami, in what was his first fight since defeat to fellow Brit Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

Joshua’s longterm promoter Hearn told The Sportsman Boxing: “I’ve had a few conversations with him.

“It’s only now we’ve been talking more because it’s going to take you time to get over something like that. I think all you can do in this situation is let people have their time.

“It baffles me that people are on me asking what’s next and if I have spoken to him about his career. No, those conversations are a long way away.

“My plan will be to see him over the next week, as a mate. I’m not going to go in there and say, ‘I know this terrible tragedy has happened but let’s talk about what’s next’. I’d be an idiot to do that. It would be completely wrong.

Anthony Joshua

“When things like this happen, it’s just not about boxing, not about business, it’s about you, the families of those two guys. Time to grieve and come to terms with a tragic incident.

“If he never fought again, you could never ever blame him but knowing AJ, after he’s grieved, I believe he will want to get back to boxing.

“The only thing that will make the mind clearer is time and he’ll be given all the time. We have no belts, we don’t have to do anything. We could not fight for two years or ever again.”

Hearn added that his “heart breaks” for Joshua after the passing of two friends who have played an instrumental role in his success.

“They came up with him and saw the rise but were also integral parts of the team. So loyal and passionate. Sina, going into the last fight, was like the leader of the camp

Gervonta Davis

“I think things like this don’t hit you, don’t sink in for a long time. It hasn’t sunk in for me and I wasn’t around these guys that often, so imagine being AJ, imagine being involved in that incident. My heart breaks for him.

“I know how strong he is but you can try and be strong, give that image and front-facing attitude, but deep down you never really know how someone’s feeling.

“That’s why we’ve got to be there for him. We’ve got to give him all the support he needs and the time that he needs to make a decision on what he’ll do.”

“Not Him Again” Errol Spence Jr urged toward a blockbuster comeback bout two years after his crushing loss to Terence Crawford

Errol Spence Jr has been presented with a monumental opportunity for his next assignment, even though the former unified welterweight champion has not fought since July 2023.

It came as a sizeable shock for many fans when Spence found himself on the receiving end of a one-sided beatdown against Terence Crawford

Prior to that, the Texan had amassed a solid unbeaten run against the likes of Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia and Yordenis Ugas, only to then lose his three major titles at 147lbs in convincing fashion.

It was that ninth-round stoppage that plunged the future of Spence’s career into uncertainty, or at least gave credibility to claims that he was no longer at the peak of his powers.

Hoping to spoil those plans before they really begin is Vergil Ortiz Jr, who insists that their potential match-up could quite easily headline a card at the AT&T Stadium, Texas.

Since moving up to 154lbs, Ortiz has claimed notable wins over Serhii Bohachuk, Israil Madrimov and, more recently, Erickson Lubin, who he stopped in the second round earlier this month.

Then, shortly after his last outing, the 27-year-old faced off in the ring with his American rival, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, in what appeared to be a promotional push for their possible showdown next year.

Ortiz’s manager, Rick Mirigian, however, later took to social media and expressed his interest in an all-Texas clash with Spence.

Terence Crawford

Echoing his handler’s thoughts, Ortiz told FightHype after his victory over Lubin that it would be his ‘dream’ to fight Spence at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.

“It doesn’t matter who’s next. If I had to pick, I’m gonna be honest, it would be Spence, because that’s my dream fight.

“I’ve been calling [for] it [to happen] at the Cowboys Stadium. I just think that’s my dream fight. I don’t care what anyone says about it.”

Something Big Is Brewing – Gervonta Davis handed opportunity to chase a world title in a new weight division as rival hunt intensifies: “He’s actively seeking him out”

Gervonta Davis: Devin Haney and his trainer-father Bill Haney are basking in the glow of their recent victory over Brian Norman Jr.

Haney became a three-division world champion with a resurgent display, outboxing the hard-hitting Norman to hand him the first loss of his career

The points victory suggested Haney had put his previous two outings — against Ryan Garcia and Arnold Barboza — firmly behind him, and his father wasted little time in calling out one of the sport’s biggest names.

In a video with Fight Hub TV, Bill Haney had a message for Gervonta Davis and his team, offering ‘Tank’ the chance to face his son for his new WBO welterweight title next year.

Gervonta Davis

Davis currently holds the WBA lightweight title, but a move 12lbs north to 147 to face Haney would not necessarily be considered a stretch as “Tank” had been set to challenge cruiserweight crossover star Jake Paul last month month before the bout was cancelled amid serious allegations made against Davis.

However, Haney doesn’t seem to be on Davis’ radar as he recently announced a rematch with Isaac Cruz is his preferred option.

Speculation Grows As Eddie Hearn Confident Joshua Will Fight Again as Comeback – Speculation Grows

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, believes the former world heavyweight champion will return to boxing after grieving the deaths of his two close friends in a car crash in Nigeria, Sunday PUNCH reports.

Hearn, however, insisted that Joshua needs time to process the tragedy before making any decision on his boxing future.

“I’ve had a few conversations with him. It’s only now we’ve been talking more because it’s going to take you time to get over something like that. I think all you can do in this situation is let people have their time,” Hearn told The Sportsman Boxing.

Oleksandr Usyk Targeted by Champion He Once Handed a Title Belt After Devastating Knockouta

Oleksandr Usyk’s manager recently gave an update on a possible fight with Deontay Wilder, which is reportedly being looked at for April or May.

The 38-year-old only fought once in 2025, picking up the IBF heavyweight title by stopping Daniel Dubois in the fifth round to add to his collection of belts.

Wilder believes he has the right tools to trouble Usyk, but it’s not a matchup that has generated much excitement among fans.

One fighter who has been impressive recently is hoping to disrupt those plans after another knockout win.

It was a night of questionable stoppages in Germany, and the main event was no exception.

Undefeated Damian Knyba faced a tough challenge as he looked to take the interim WBC heavyweight title from Agit Kabayel on the champion’s home soil.

The challenger started well and managed to cut Kabayel above the right eye, but it didn’t take long for the pressure from the titleholder to take over.

Kabayel landed several heavy shots in the third round before the referee stepped in. The decision split opinion, with some fans celebrating while others felt it was stopped too soon.

The German fighter is now riding a six-fight knockout streak, with wins over names like Zhilei Zhang and Frank Sanchez adding weight to his record.

After his latest win, Kabayel used his post-fight interview to push for a unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

He claimed: “I waited so long for this title opportunity, I beat three monsters in the Riyadh Season. Give me the world title fight. I’m ready.”

Oleksandr Usyk

Kabayel claimed the interim WBC heavyweight title after stopping Zhang, and it was Usyk who handed him the belt in a show of respect.

Kabayel later told Dev Sahni that he felt Usyk might not have expected their paths to cross inside the ring when he did it.

The interim champion also suggested that the Ukrainian star may have overlooked the potential of the German boxing market, something he believes he is starting to change.

Reflecting on that moment in the ring, Kabayel commented: “This is nice but I want your belt.”
