Boxing World on Alert After Jake Paul Drops Vague Hint About Anthony Joshua, Message Sparks Frenzy Over Possible Anthony Joshua Showdown

Jake Paul’s evolution from influencer brawls to targeting boxing royalty has captured the public’s imagination. Fresh off his victory over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., ‘The Problem Child’ boldly announced his ambition to face ex-unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Backed by boxing impresario Turki Alalshikh, there appeared to be mutual interest and the financial muscle to make the matchup happen, despite some pundits advising Joshua to pursue a mega fight with Tyson Fury instead. With Fury’s emphatic retirement pronouncement quashing that possibility, the path seems clear for Paul versus Joshua.

Recently, Paul’s promotional outfit, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), added fuel to the fire. On Instagram, MVP posted an evocative shot of Paul standing atop the Empire State Building, surveying Manhattan’s skyline, accompanied by the teaser, “MVP has learned that there will be Jake Paul news soon,” immediately followed by MVP’s trademark self-aware wink: “How soon and what news?..MVP has not learned that.”

I’m Not Just a Puncher: Gervonta Davis Wants to Be Known for More Than His Knockouts

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is no stranger to highlight reels. The Baltimore-born fighter has carved out a fearsome reputation with his thunderous punching power and spectacular knockouts. From Leo Santa Cruz to Rolando Romero, Davis has built a career as one of boxing’s most electrifying finishers. But as he matures inside and outside the ring, Davis has a message for the world: He wants to be remembered for more than just putting opponents to sleep.

 “I’m Not Just a Puncher”

In a recent interview, Davis spoke candidly about the one-dimensional perception that often surrounds his name. “People see the knockouts and think that’s all there is to me,” Davis said. “But I’ve got real skills, real ring IQ. I want people to see the chess, not just the checkmate.”

Indeed, his ring intelligence is often overshadowed by the brutal finality of his finishes. Yet, boxing insiders know that Davis is more than just muscle and menace. He’s a thinking fighter—one who sets traps, calculates angles, and adapts mid-fight with deceptive ease.

The Anatomy of a Knockout Artist

Terence Crawford

To understand what Davis is up against in reshaping his narrative, you have to look at his career trajectory. He’s 30-0 with 28 knockouts—a staggering statistic in an era where even elite boxers often settle for decisions.

His power is undeniable. But with each knockout comes a double-edged sword: the public begins to define you only by that power. Fans expect quick finishes. Critics question whether you’re capable of winning a drawn-out, tactical fight.

That expectation puts pressure on Davis, not just to win, but to entertain in a very specific, violent way. And that’s a burden he no longer wants to shoulder alone.

“I love giving the fans a show,” Davis admits. “But I want to be recognized for how I break guys down, how I think. Knockouts don’t just happen. They’re created.”

Davis’s transformation isn’t just physical or tactical—it’s personal. His early years were marked by turmoil: run-ins with the law, erratic behavior, and questions about his discipline. But in recent years, Davis has begun to take more control of his narrative.

He’s invested in mentorship programs in Baltimore, aiming to give back to the city that raised him. He’s talked more openly about his upbringing—growing up in a violent neighborhood, bouncing through foster care, and finding purpose through boxing.

Those scars still shape him, but they no longer define him. Now, Davis speaks like a man aware of his platform and the legacy he can leave.

“I want to show the younger generation that you can evolve. That you don’t have to be who the world says you are.”

Chasing Greatness, Not Just Fame

The pivot in Davis’s outlook also seems to align with his ambition to be more than just a box-office draw. He’s no longer satisfied with celebrity. He wants greatness—real, historic greatness.

To get there, he knows he must face the toughest opponents—fighters like Shakur Stevenson, Teofimo López, or Devin Haney. Technical wizards who don’t just brawl—they box. Defeating them won’t take brute force; it’ll take finesse, footwork, and mental warfare.

And Davis believes he’s ready.

“I want the challenges. I want people to see I can outbox the boxer, not just out-punch the puncher.”

 The Artist Behind the Power

If you study Davis’s fights closely, the artistry is there. His timing is impeccable. His ability to read distance and exploit openings is surgical. He disguises power shots with subtle feints. He draws opponents into traps with footwork. These are not the tools of a mindless brawler—they’re the tools of a craftsman.

And yet, these nuances are often lost amid the drama of his finishes.

“It’s like painting a masterpiece and people only notice the last brush stroke,” Davis says with a smirk.

The Road Ahead

Davis’s next fight—an August rematch against Lamont Roach Jr.—will be a pivotal chapter in this evolving story. Roach is a sharp, durable technician who took Davis the distance in their controversial first bout. A decisive win—not necessarily by knockout—could be a showcase for Davis’s broader skillset.

But perhaps more important than the result will be how Davis conducts himself: inside the ropes, in front of the cameras, and in his community. The more he reveals of his intellect, maturity, and discipline, the more the boxing world will begin to see what Davis has always known:

He’s not just a knockout artist. He’s a complete fighter.

Final Word

In a sport that often reduces greatness to highlight clips and viral moments, Gervonta Davis is pushing back against the simplicity of his own myth. He wants to be studied, not just watched. Respected, not just feared.

He knows that power fades. But legacy—true legacy—is built on more than a punch. It’s built on evolution, character, and vision.

And as Davis steps into the next phase of his career, one thing is clear: he’s not just looking to end fights. He’s looking to write history.

Boxing Star George Groves Floats Bold Plan for Fury vs Joshua Battle

The former super middleweight champion has been outspoken on the subject, with Groves pleading with Fury and AJ to fight this year.

A very unlikely scenario now, but with Fury mounting a return and Joshua likely ready to fight by December, a glimmer of hope for the all-British clash still looms.

However, both men’s focuses are on very different fights with the ‘Gypsy King’ eyeing an Oleksandr Usyk rematch and Watford’s own looking towards a Jake Paul crossover clash.

George Groves suggests ‘super exciting’ Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua concept, not over 12 rounds

‘Saint George’, though, is still adamant that both men should be focused on one another instead of repeating fights.

Speaking to Escapist Magazine, the 37-year-old disregarded an Usyk fight for either man.

He said: “Do I want to see Usyk vs Fury again? No. There is no point in that fight. They’re playing for best-of-five at this point.

“He (Usyk) soundly beat Fury. Almost knocked him out the first time, didn’t he? He soundly beat Joshua.”

Instead, he proposed a ‘super exciting’ concept for a potential British heavyweight bout.

“The only fight now for Fury is Joshua. I think, have one and be done. I don’t think we need this rematch,” he said.

“Do it over five rounds. Just make it super exciting, rapid fire. I think Usyk has completed boxing and he should be done.”

Tyson Fury can’t be taken seriously as he backtracks after backtracking on retirement decision

As it currently stands, Tyson Fury will either fight in a boxing match once again or he won’t. That’s basically all anyone can know, because Fury is truly an enigma. “The Gypsy King” has “retired” in the past, only to come back and fight when the right opponent and financial opportunity presented itself

So when Fury said he was retiring after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk, no one really believed him. So when Fury started talking about his return being practically confirmed, against either Usyk or Anthony Joshua, fans did believe him. Now, Fury has come out to turn the tables yet again, and fans don’t know what to believe anymore.

Tyson Fury says he will “never” return to boxing

While at the Doncaster Racecourse over the weekend, Fury was asked by Sky Sports when we wil see him back in the ring. He didn’t hesitate to respond.
Fury seemed to be acting cheeky. He probably wasn’t being serious, especially since he agreed that maybe he would just race horses from now on. While a return is still on the table, it does sound like Fury will only actually come back if it’s against Usyk or Joshua. Whether that materializes is anyone’s guess.

British Heavyweight Breaks Silence on Possible Seven-Figure Joshua Jackpot After Upcoming Win

A fight against Anthony Joshua is a huge achievement for many British heavyweights.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist has had his fair share of domestic fights, facing the likes of Dillian ‘The Body Snatcher’ Whyte and Daniel Dubois amongst others.

Anthony Joshua is still a world-class heavyweight despite his knockout loss to ‘DDD’ and his two defeats to the now-undisputed heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk.

Since suffering an elbow injury, he has been unable to compete in the ring, but rumours of a return next year have intensified, with Tony Yoka, who had ‘intense’ sparring with Dubois, one such name floated around.

A British heavyweight could land an incredible Anthony Joshua fight if he wins in October

Whilst no concrete names have yet emerged for the comeback fight, one British heavyweight has been promised a huge seven-figure fight against AJ, Deontay Wilder, or Joseph Parker if he wins in October.

Dave Allen will headline in Sheffield against the formidable Arslanbek Makhmudov, and if he wins, a big fight is ready to be delivered by Eddie Hearn.

In an interview with TalkSport, he cautiously responded to the news.

Allen said: “Yeah, it’s difficult because it’s hard not to look at that.

“But Makhmudov would be the best win of my career. People keep telling me all you’ve got to do is hit him to the body and take him a few rounds. I’m not Agit Kabayel, I wish I were Agit Kabayel.”

Parker is waiting on Usyk’s next move, and Wilder is looking for his next rival after stopping Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round of his return bout.

Ever the realist, the ‘White Rhino’ was trying to temper expectations of the potentially life-changing opportunity he could land.

“I’m not Tyson Fury, I’m not Oleksandr Usyk, I am Dave Allen, I’m not a bad fighter, but Arslanbek Makhmudov is a big ask for me,” he said.

“This already is my world title fight, talks of Wilder, Joshua, Parker, but if I don’t beat Makhmudov, they will never happen.”

Hearn has had Jake Paul discussions for the Watford fighter for next year, but with established heavyweight names lining up as potential suitors for his first fight back, it could be the Doncaster heavyweight’s turn next year.

Terence Crawford ranked lower than Canelo Alvarez for most effective jab in pound-for-pound list

It is difficult to separate Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but there is one area where the Mexican outranks ‘Bud’.

The undisputed super middleweight champion has had some highlight-reel knockouts and some may favour his power over the heavy punches of Crawford, but a former Canelo opponent revealed his power isn’t all that.

While this may ease any nerves the Omaha boxer has about the power, the 35-year-old still has 39 knockouts in 63 wins.

Terence Crawford sixth in jab connection rate list below Canelo Alvarez, as another Mexican star ranks above both

Boxers and fans have highlighted the long jab of the 37-year-old as a perfect weapon against the smaller man, although his connect percentage does let him down.

While still highly ranked in the list, his 22.4% connect rate lets him down compared to his opponent on September 13th by almost 1%.

Alvarez has even thrown seven times fewer jabs per round than his next title challenger, which makes him much more effective across the 12-round distance.

Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez takes the number one position on this list with a 27.1% connection rate, which is over 10% more than Japanese sensation Junto Nakatani.

He recently took apart Phumelela Cafu, whose corner threw in the towel in the tenth round of their title unification bout.

Canelo Alvarez lost to a fellow pound-for-pound star in 2022, who outjabbed him in all 12 rounds

If the former undisputed welterweight champion was going to study any tapes on how to outwork the four-division great, it would be his bout against Dmitry Bivol.

Terence Crawford

The Guadalajaran was soundly beaten and was outjabbed in every department across every single round.

To demonstrate the defensive skill of the Russian, in four rounds Canelo connected with no jabs, and in the other eight rounds, he never landed more than two on Bivol.

After this bout, the 34-year-old went on to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion when he beat Artur Beterbiev in their acclaimed rematch.

Eddie Hearn Teases Shocking Debate Talks: Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul ‘Mismatch’ Fight in Discussion

An Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul fight is now more of a possibility than ever before.

Ever since the post-fight callout from ‘The Problem Child’, it has split opinion in the boxing world, but fighters like cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley want AJ v Paul next.

Joshua is still plotting his return to the ring this year after his loss last September to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium

While the 35-year-old’s trainer broke his silence on the fight, his promoter has now had discussions with ‘El Gallo’s’ promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, on the likelihood of making the contest.

Early Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul ‘mismatch’ discussions have taken place, confirms Eddie Hearn

Eddie Hearn, in an interview with IFL TV, confirmed that he has had a talk with Nakisa Badirian of MVP over the logistics of a mega-fight between their money fighters.

While maintaining caution on concrete promises, he said: “Yes, I had close to an hour with Nakisa earlier this week… We kind of went through the contractual points, and there aren’t really any major barriers to make this fight.

“I want to make this clear, I am not calling for this, or we are targeting this fight.”

However, Hearn gave his thoughts on the proposed contest itself and the belief of the American.

“I think the fight is a mismatch, I think AJ destroys him, but if Jake Paul wants this fight and he is serious, then the fight will happen,” he said.

“This really comes down to Jake’s beliefs slash delusions. I said to Nakisa, ‘This is dangerous’.”

Anthony Joshua has only lost to one opponent around Jake Paul’s weight

While he has competed as a cruiserweight throughout the majority of his career, the influencer famously fought heavyweight icon Mike Tyson in the glamour division of the sport.

Joshua, though, has had some great successes when facing eight opponents around the 220-230 lb mark, with seven stoppage wins, including a signature victory over Alexander Povetkin.

However, he has faced defeat to Oleksandr Usyk twice, who was within the weight but, it has to be said, Paul is not at the skills level of the Ukrainian magician.

What the weight does show, though, is the ability to take a shot; most of the aforementioned opponents, besides Povetkin and Usyk, didn’t make it past the third round.

So, for a novice like the former Disney Channel star, who hasn’t tasted real heavyweight power, it could be a very difficult night in the ring.

Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Rematch Faces Delay as Promoters Eye Two New Target Dates

Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach’s rematch is set to be rescheduled again. Promoter PBC were hoping to stage the sequel on August 16 in Las Vegas.

However, the bout is now expected to be pushed back by one to two weeks.

According to Ring Magazine, organisers are now targeting August 23 or August 30 in Sin City.

Davis was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend on June 15 in Florida.

But the date looked doubtful even before then.

PBC hadn’t officially announced August 16, nor had they confirmed the undercard, although it was widely reported that they intended to stage the event on that day.

Remarkably, this isn’t the first time the bout has been delayed.

The initial plan was to hold the fight on June 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Davis and Roach boxed to a heavily disputed majority draw last March after the challenger was wrongfully denied a knockdown in round nine.

WBA lightweight champion Davis took a knee having just absorbed a grazing jab before making his way over to his corner to have debris wiped from his eye.

Anthony Joshua Unveils Bold Masterplan With Eddie Hearn to Propel England to World Cup Glory

Anthony Joshua is no stranger to Wembley Stadium, but he could soon be heading back there to watch one of his clients.

The two-time heavyweight world champion has sold out England’s home of football on four occasions, and has now talked up getting involved in the beautiful game on a full-time basis.

Now aged 35 and heading towards the end of his career, ‘AJ’ posted a surprise Instagram story referencing his famous promoter Eddie Hearn.

“The family has conquered darts, snooker, pool, boxing, fishing, golf, owning a football club and you’ve had a presence in basketball, netball and gymnastics,” he wrote to his 16.5million followers.

“I believe ‘we’ could look at the football agency industry and have a strong presence.

“Imagine we help manage the player who helped England win the World Cup. Call me tomorrow mate.”

Hearn reposted the message with emojis of a football and handshake, which comes as no surprise given his previous comments.

Speaking with GQ back in 2020 Hearn was left shocked when asked about becoming a football agent.

“Do you know what? I’ll just say it. Me and AJ are talking about doing it.

“We’ve looked at it for a while and he mentioned it to me the other day and he said: ‘You know how to represent athletes, you can use my brand and my name, I know a lot of the players, we go out’.

“‘You know how to build a career on the pitch and off the pitch commercially, so what do you think?’

Why Hearn moving into football makes sense

Hearn is one of boxing’s most famous faces despite never putting on the gloves, helping take the sport to a whole new level after inheriting his father Barry’s empire.

Assisting him on the way has been Joshua’s undoubted star power, while recent agreements with the sporting wing of Saudi Arabia’s government has seen cash flow into the sport like never before.

Hearn also has football experience too, from when his father was the chairman of Leyton Orient from 1995 to 2014.

A Great Possibility Emerges As Anthony Joshua Eyeing Surprise Opponent for Comeback Clash

Anthony Joshua’s comeback opponent could be a fellow Olympic gold medallist as a ‘warm-up’ ahead of a mega fight with Tyson Fury next year.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former European super bantamweight champion, Spencer Oliver, revealed that Tony Yoka is a ‘great possibility’ as Joshua’s next fight.

Oliver said: “Do I think they are going to fight? I think that is a great possibility. We get two Olympic gold medallists going at it. Tony Yoka is trying to rekindle his career after losing to the likes of Carlos Takam. Doesn’t it make sense? Two Olympic gold medallists, there is history there.

“It will be a great fight, it is a sellable fight, I would love to see it.”

Yoka was a standout in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, winning a gold medal for France, but is currently rebuilding from three consecutive losses as a professional to Martin Bakole, Carlos Takam and Ryad Merhy.

He has since registered three wins, and despite a less-than-favourable run of form, Yoka has great pedigree, having beaten big-name heavyweight contenders Filip Hrgovic, Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker as an amateur, making him a tricky proposition for the former unified heavyweight champion.

Since his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September last year, Joshua has undergone minor surgery to his elbow and is looking to come back at the end of the year, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has also weighed in on Joshua’s future and said that before he and Fury potentially face off next year they both need a tune-up fight, having both lost in their last outing.

He told The Boxing Voice: “Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury next year, we are trying to do it and we are thinking about it. I need to have for each one, a tune-up fight first.

“Why? Because they are both coming off losses. It’s to build it up.”
