Prominent Boxing Commentators Erupt in Outrage Over Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul Showdown

Prominent boxing broadcasters from Britain are aghast at news that Anthony Joshua, one of the best heavyweights that the country has produced, could be lining himself up to fight a former star on The Disney Channel, Jake Paul, in a real boxing bout.

Though Joshua has bulldozed his way through a number of elite opponents, like Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin, he has suffered a massive setback in the last 12 months as he got clobbered and flattened by Daniel Dubois. In the time since, Paul has beaten a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, and 39-year-old Julio Cesar Chavez Jr — both of whom are former champions in their respective divisions.

Even with Joshua’s noticeable decline, and Paul’s apparent improvements, there is still a significant talent gap that exists between them that makes any fight “very dangerous,” according to Adam Catterall and Gareth A. Davis on talkSPORT.

Here’s a brief transcript from a conversation Davis and Catterall had regarding the crossover fight.

Gareth A. Davies: “Jake Paul is an area-level fighter. A British area-level fighter. And Anthony Joshua is still a killer, and a live heavyweight.”

GAD: “Even Eddie Hearn is saying he doesn’t like the look of it, but you see the glimpses of dollar signs [in his eyes].”

Adam: “There is no price.”

GAD: “There shouldn’t be.”

Adam: “There’s absolutely no price on the planet to make that fight, because it’s dangerous. You can’t forget money, because it’s still a business at the end of the day, but think about the talent of these two people. You have an Olympic gold medalist … a two-time unified, heavyweight champion of the world, with the most amount of title contests in this era.

Gervonta davis

“And he’s taking on a lad, who,10 years ago was presenting TV shows on The Disney Channel.”

“But he’s an area-level novice. When he fought someone with a boxing pulse, Tommy Fury, he got beat!”

It’s no foregone conclusion that Joshua fights Paul next because the British slugger has also been linked with a fellow Olympic gold medalist, Tony Yoka. It’s a fight that French media already say is 90% likely to happen, with one media outlet reporting that Joshua even said he’s expecting to box Yoka.

Federer’s Fortune Climbs to a Staggering $1 Billion, Becoming Only the Second Former Tennis Legend to Achieve the Historic Feat

Roger Federer’s net worth has reportedly reached billionaire status, solidifying his place among the world’s wealthiest athletes.

Federer, who turned 44 Friday, retired from professional tennis in September 2022. He played his last-ever competitive match in the same month at the Laver Cup in London while partnering his great rival, Rafael Nadal, in doubles.

Federer earned over $100 million in prize money during nearly three decades competing on tour, ranking third on the all-time list behind Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He won 20 Grand Slams in a distinguished playing career and is one of three men to amass at least 100 titles at the highest level. Federer holds the record for the most consecutive weeks at No. 1 with 237. But Federer’s prize money (money earned playing tennis tournaments) only accounts for a small fraction of his net worth.

Federer’s net worth reaches billionaire status

According to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, Federer is now worth at least $1.3 billion and is considered to have the most marketable brand of any tennis player in history. The bulk of Federer’s riches comes from appearance fees (which he mostly earned during his playing days) and blue-chip endorsement deals.

The Swiss legend was widely reported to command at least a seven-figure pay to honor an invitation at low-tier tournaments or exhibition matches. Federer also possesses an unparalleled off-court portfolio of at least 10 brands, some of which he continues to retain. For instance, Federer penned a 10-year contract with Japanese apparel company Uniqlo in 2018 worth $300 million. In 2020, Federer made history when he became the first tennis player to top Forbes’ annual list of the highest-paid athletes.

And since his retirement, Federer has increasingly become business-centric, channeling his money into profitable investments. His biggest financial gain is buying a 3% stake in Swiss sportwear company On Running, and the company is now valued at $19 billion in 2025–making Federer’s share at least $500 million as per the same report. On has penetrated the tennis world, signing up WTA star Iga Swiatek and American No. 2 Ben Shelton.

Who else is a tennis billionaire?

Federer joins a very exclusive club of tennis billionaires. In fact, Federer is only the second name to achieve this feat. The first ex-tennis player to become a billionaire is Romania’s Ion Tiriac. According to Forbes, he is worth $2.3 billion in 2025. Tiriac heads the Tiriac Group, which carries out multi-industry operations in real estate, car dealership, and financial services.

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn Rematch Officially Pushed to November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The highly anticipated rematch between British boxing rivals Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn has been officially rescheduled to November 15, with Tottenham Hotspur Stadium set to host the blockbuster clash.

Originally slated for an earlier date, the fight has been pushed back due to what promoters describe as “scheduling adjustments and logistical considerations.” While no major injury or training setback has been reported, both fighters will now have several extra weeks to prepare for what promises to be one of the most heated grudge matches in recent British boxing history.

The rivalry between Eubank Jr and Benn is steeped in family legacy, echoing the fierce battles of their fathers—Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn—in the 1990s. Their first bout ended with controversy and drama, only fueling demand for a rematch. Since then, both fighters have been vocal in the media, trading verbal jabs and promising decisive outcomes in their second meeting.

Benn, equally determined, fired back with his own message: “I’ve been waiting for this moment. He’s had his say, but in November, my fists will do the talking.”

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, known for hosting major sporting spectacles, will provide a grand stage for the event, with tens of thousands of fans expected to pack the venue. Boxing pundits are already calling this one of the most anticipated domestic fights of the year, both for the action inside the ring and the history it represents.

With just over three months until fight night, anticipation is building fast—and given the bad blood between these two, fans can expect a tense, explosive showdown when Eubank Jr and Benn finally meet again under the lights in London.

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao Announces Plans for a Final Return to the Ring This December

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that he is planning one last return to the ring this December, marking what could be the final chapter of his storied career.

The 45-year-old former eight-division world champion, who officially retired from professional boxing in 2021 to focus on politics in the Philippines, revealed in a recent statement that the urge to compete still burns strong. Pacquiao, known worldwide as “PacMan,” hinted that this December bout will serve as his farewell to the sport that made him an icon.

“I want to give the fans one last great fight,” Pacquiao said. “Boxing has been my life for decades, and I want to step into the ring one more time to thank the people who have supported me all these years.”

Some believe Pacquiao could face a top contender in the welterweight division, while others think a high-profile exhibition bout—possibly against an international star—might be in the works.

Pacquiao’s career has spanned over 26 years, during which he has claimed titles in an unprecedented eight weight classes. This potential farewell fight promises to be more than just a sporting event—it will be a celebration of one of boxing’s most remarkable careers. If Pacquiao truly hangs up his gloves after December, it will mark the end of an era for the sport.

Terence Crawford

As fans around the globe await official details, one thing is certain: whenever Manny Pacquiao steps through the ropes again, the world will be watching.

Reports: Terence Crawford’s Sneaky Southpaw Stance Could Spell Unexpected Trouble for Canelo Alvarez

In the high-stakes world of boxing, styles don’t just make fights — they often decide them. And if there’s one stylistic twist that could rattle even the most seasoned champion, it’s Terence “Bud” Crawford’s masterful use of the southpaw stance. As talks and fan speculation swirl about a potential super-fight between Crawford and four-division champion Canelo Álvarez, insiders are pointing to one subtle but potentially game-changing factor: Crawford’s ability to fight — and excel — as a southpaw.

Crawford, already considered one of the most technically gifted fighters of his generation, is a natural switch-hitter. While he often starts in an orthodox stance, he frequently shifts to southpaw mid-fight, using it to control distance, dictate angles, and frustrate opponents. Against Canelo, who is predominantly accustomed to orthodox fighters, this could present a tactical headache.

“Canelo is one of the best at timing and countering, but Crawford’s stance-switching and his southpaw work could disrupt that rhythm,” said a veteran trainer familiar with both fighters. “A good southpaw makes you think twice before you commit — and Crawford’s not just good, he’s elite.”

Tyson fury

Historically, Canelo has had mixed performances against southpaws. While he’s secured wins over several, including Austin Trout and Erislandy Lara, those fights weren’t without moments of discomfort. Lara, in particular, used movement and angles to trouble Álvarez, a blueprint Crawford could refine and weaponize.

The intrigue is compounded by Crawford’s precision and ring IQ. His ability to bait opponents into overextending, then counter sharply, could be amplified from the southpaw stance. Meanwhile, Canelo’s challenge would be to cut off the ring and neutralize Crawford’s angles without leaving himself open to the kind of punishing counters that have ended many of Crawford’s fights early.

With both fighters sitting atop pound-for-pound lists, a clash between them would be more than just a battle for supremacy — it would be a chess match of the highest order. And if it happens, Crawford’s “sneaky” southpaw stance might just be the unpredictable key that tips the balance.

As one boxing analyst put it: “If Canelo’s power and pressure meet Crawford’s footwork and stance-switching, we could be looking at one of the most tactically fascinating fights of the decade.”

Paul has made a name for himself in boxing with his crossover fights against UFC fighters and has even made his desire to step in the cage known.

Dave Allen, who is scheduled to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov in October, has the opportunity to land a seven-figure fight against Joshua if he wins his next bout.

Eddie Hearn Unleashes And Drops Bombshell Update on Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul — With A Savage, Curious Jab at U.S. Star

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has aimed a dig at Jake Paul amid rumours the pair could be fighting in the near future.

Joshua, 35, has been out of action since he was beaten by Daniel Dubois at Wembley last September.

Since that defeat, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist has undergone elbow surgery and is targeting a return to the ring in 2025.

Meanwhile, YouTuber turned boxer Paul has beaten the likes of Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at heavyweight and cruiserweight, respectively.

Recently, it has been tipped that Joshua and Paul could take on each other in the ring.

According to a report by Sky Sports, promoter Hearn has stated that Paul is the ‘frontrunner’ to face Joshua.

The report read: “Jake Paul is absolutely the “front-runner” to fight Anthony Joshua next, says promoter Eddie Hearn.”

Hearn also stated that it is ‘bizarre’ that Paul thinks he could get the better of the former heavyweight world champion.

He said: “I think Jake Paul is absolutely the frontrunner to fight Anthony Joshua next. I’m here in New York for meetings about the fight, there’s an open dialouge between myself and MVP.

“I don’t know what to tell you other than it’s mental. I can’t sit here and tell you that this is a 50/50 match. The whole thing is bizarre, I think it’s extremely dangerous for Jake Paul.

“The general feedback is that the boxing world is say ‘Please AJ, go in there and evaporate this young man from the boxing world so we can all get on as normal’.”

Hearn added: “You then got Jake Paul fans thinking bizarrely they could beat Anthony Joshua and the most bizarre thing is that Jake Paul genuinely believes he will beat Anthony Joshua.

Eddie Earn

“I’m telling you, be careful what you wish for! Because this is the most dangerous thing. This is going into the ring with one of the fiercest punchers of this generation. By the way, if you’re going in there thinking you’re gonna win, that’s even more dangerous.

Gervonta Davis is once again at the center of controversy: retirement rumors, tensions with his trainer and an uncertain future in boxing. Is the end near for ‘Tank’?

The rumors about Gervonta’s possible retirement, as well as the recent statements of his trainer, have cast doubt on the continuity of the undefeated champion, and although many say that he is only going through a bad time, the possibility of a premature retirement does not seem far-fetched.

Rumors of a possible retirement have only increased in recent weeks, and although there is no official statement from the fighter, his silence on social media, inactivity in the ring and a series of situations outside the ring have fueled speculation.

Anthony Joshua’s Promoter Reveals Why a Jake Paul Showdown Could Surpass a Tyson Fury Fight in Scale

Joshua is currently in talks for a staggering boxing clash with YouTuber-turned-fighter Paul. There is a gulf in class between the pair with the Briton a two-time former heavyweight world champion, while Paul has had just 13 professional fights against largely limited opposition.

Several options lay on the table for Joshua’s comeback fight, and he has also been heavily linked with a two-fight blockbuster deal with bitter rival Tyson Fury.

And despite the boxing purist wanting to see AJ finally settle his feud with the ‘Gypsy King’, Smith believes the commercial value lies in a duel with Paul.

“2026 is going to be a huge year for Anthony Joshua,” Smith said on talkSPORT’s Hawksbee & Jacobs.

“It is a random fight with Jake Paul, but it is the biggest fight out there at the moment.

“Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul on the global scale is bigger than Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury. That is the world we live in right now.

Fury Made His Feelings Clear After Coming Under Pressure To Save Crisis-club Morecambe FC.

Fury, 36, is a former unified heavyweight champion and has fought in some of the most iconic cities in the world, including London, Las Vegas and Los Angeles during his illustrious boxing career.

And despite arguably being able to purchase property anywhere in the world, given the funds available to him, the 36-year-old calls the Lancashire town of Morecambe his home.

The self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ is regularly spotted mixing with the locals on the beachfront while he trains.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Fury has resided in the town for the past 17 years. Aside from Fury, Morecambe’s residents are also proud of their football team, Morecambe FC.

But after 125 years of representing the town, the Shrimps’ future is under threat. The issue relates to owner Jason Whittingham’s failure to sell the club, leading to suspension from the National League.

As reported by BBC Sport in July, the National League have “serious concerns” about the club’s compliance with its rules.

Several fans have since called on Fury’s support and asked him to even purchase the club due to his hefty bank balance.

Earlier this year, the Manchester Evening News reported Fury’s net worth at an estimated £161.9million, up from £82.2million in 2024.

Meanwhile, Morecambe ceased all football operations last week. Players were sent home from training and are said to be owed around £316,000 in unpaid wages, as reported by The Guardian.

So, what has Fury said about the situation?

Well, although he has not commented on the current predicament, he did previously express interest in taking over the club.

Speaking to talkSPORT in 2022, Fury said: “I’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they’re in League One at the moment.

“Yeah, basically throw it at them and keep them going up,” Fury added.

“I’ve been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club.

“I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym.

“So, who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner.”
