Rematch: I’ve Outgrown 147 I Would Want It At 154 Pounds, Spence On Crawford Rematch

Spence informed BoxingScene.com before he made an appearance at open workouts Wednesday at MGM Grand that his next fight will be contested at the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds. The 33-year-old Spence will oppose fellow undefeated welterweight champion Terence Crawford in their highly anticipated 147-pound title unification fight Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

They have rematch clauses in their contracts, but Spence doesn’t think he can put his body through the grueling process of making the welterweight limit again.

“I would want it at 154,” Spence said. “I’ve outgrown 147.”

The weight limit for their rematch will be determined by the winner, however, thus Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) could be forced to fight Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) at welterweight again if Crawford wins and wants their second bout to be contested at 147 pounds as well. Spence would then have to decide if avenging what would be his first professional defeat would be meaningful enough to make the physical sacrifices required to fight at welterweight again.

Spence nevertheless acknowledged a little less than two days before he has to make weight Friday that the process is increasingly difficult, even with top professionals helping his cause every step of the way during training camp.

“It’s been kinda hard,” Spence said, “but I’ve got a nutritionist and a dietician to make sure I’m eating the right foods and make sure I’m good. But it’s definitely hard. It’s definitely a struggle. It’s always hard, but yeah, this is the last time, definitely. I’m a lot older. I’m not as young as I used to be, so you know, you can’t be puttin’ your body through that much to fight.”

Except for one fight, the 5-foot-10 Spence has fought at or near the welterweight maximum of 147 pounds since he turned pro after the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The DeSoto, Texas native has come in at or below 147 pounds for each of his last 10 fights, the last seven of which were championship clashes.

The 5-foot-8 Crawford, meanwhile, will participate in his eighth straight welterweight fight Saturday night. The Omaha, Nebraska native has won each of his seven 147-pound bouts by knockout or technical knockout since the former undisputed 140-pound champion moved up seven pounds five years ago.
Gervonta DavisMGM Grand’s sportsbook listed Crawford as a slight favorite Wednesday to defeat Spence (-160/+135). Crawford or Spence can become boxing’s first fully unified welterweight champion of the four-belt era by winning their Showtime Pay-Per-View main event ($84.99; 8 p.m. EDT; 5 p.m. PDT).

“He’s too big for him” Crawford Comments on Gervonta Davis vs Jake Paul

World champion Terence Crawford has claimed that Jake Paul has an overwhelming physical advantage over Gervonta Davis, and that the fight should not happen under normal circumstances.

The fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta “Tank” Davis has generated a wave of reactions in the boxing world, and one of the most critical has been the undisputed champion Terence Crawford

In recent statements, Crawford claimed that Paul is “too big” for Davis, and that the fight represents a physical mismatch that calls into question the seriousness of the event.

A difference of seven divisions

Jake Paul, who competes as a cruiserweight, has a seven-division advantage over Davis, who fights at lightweight. In addition, Paul is 6-foot-1 and has a 7-inch height and 9-inch reach advantage.

Gervonta is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters, but this is not fair. Jake Paul is simply too big for him.

Canelo Alvarez

A fight that looks like a circus

The fight, scheduled as an exhibition for November 14 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, will be broadcast by Netflix. Although the rules have not yet been revealed, the event has been described by specialized media as “a mixture of circus and boxing”Crawford echoed this criticism, pointing out that such shows distort the sport and turn it into entertainment with no competitive meaning.

Jake Paul responds with taunts

Paul was quick to respond to the criticism, posting on social media phrases such as “I’m going to deactivate the little boy” and comparing Davis to a decorative cake figure. He also shared edited images and 50 Cent music to mock his detractors.

My motto is: anyone, anytime, anywhere, against all odds. And I like my odds.

For Crawford, these types of fights affect the credibility of professional boxing.

Terence Crawford

It’s not just about skill, it’s about fair conditions. If Jake Paul wants to fight real boxers, let him do it at his weight.

Critics point out that Paul has avoided facing rivals in his category, opting for media fights that generate attention but do not contribute to the sport.

Gervonta Davis, for his part, has not responded directly to Crawford, but has maintained his stance that he can overcome Paul with technique and speed. However, boxers such as Shakur Stevenson have also expressed doubts about his ability to knock out someone with such a size difference.

Terence Crawford‘s words reflect a legitimate concern about the direction boxing is taking in the age of social media and media fights. While Jake Paul has shown an ability to generate attention and money, the physical mismatch against Gervonta Davis raises questions about the ethics and purpose of such encounters. On November 14, the world will see whether spectacle trumps sport.

Anthony Joshua Warns of Heavyweight Shake-Up as Moses Itauma Emerges as the Next Dominant Force

The heavyweight division is in a strong place, but it’s also on the brink of change. Oleksandr Usyk remains firmly on the throne, dominating the division with little real threat as he approaches 39 years old. Behind him are the marquee names who have already fallen to him—Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois.

There are still dangerous veterans in the mix, including Joseph Parker, Agit Kabayel, and Fabio Wardley. Yet lurking just beyond them is a rising force—Moses Itauma. At only 20 years old, Itauma has already stamped his name onto the scene, most notably with a stunning first-round TKO over Dillian Whyte in August. Despite his youth, he looks ready for a world title shot.

Whether that opportunity comes soon remains uncertain. What is certain is the hype surrounding him, and for good reason. He has cut through his opposition with ease, and what we’ve seen so far may only be the beginning.

His trainer, Ben Davison, has made a bold declaration about Itauma’s potential. Speaking to talkSPORT, Davison said:

Anthony Joshua

“I don’t think this country has ever produced the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world. But with Moses Itauma, we have the opportunity to change that. For a British heavyweight to have the potential to be the pound-for-pound best—that’s what we’re looking at.”

Davison even suggested that no one currently has a better chance of beating Usyk than Itauma. That’s remarkable praise, especially coming from a trainer who has worked with some of the sport’s biggest names, including Fury, Joshua, Wardley, and others.

“Hearn stirs the boxing world: Joshua might not hesitate to face young phenom Moses Itauma in a high-stakes title fight.”

A fight between Anthony Joshua and Moses Itauma could be made, but a world title would have to be on the line says promoter Eddie Hearn.

Itauma is in the early stages of his professional career, but has shown his promise and his capabilities in a lightning-quick demolition of Dillian Whyte.

Joshua is 15 years older than Itauma and has already been a unified heavyweight champion twice before.

Itauma’s promoter, Frank Warren told Sky Sports: “I’d do that [AJ-Itauma fight] tomorrow. It isn’t going to happen. First of all they’ve got the same trainer [in Ben Davison].”

Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, could see a fight with Itauma happening, if it was for a world heavyweight championship

“I don’t really look at the Moses fight and think that’s a fight for AJ,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “There’s many reasons for that. One, what do you gain out if it?

Gervonta davis

“Moses is a very good fighter. If you win you’ve beat up a 20-year-old. If you lose you’ve lost to a 20-year-old and your career’s over. It’s a dangerous fight, I rate Moses very highly.”

But the promoter noted: “AJ, his decision would be completely different. He would probably be bang up for fighting Moses. He’d find that exciting and if there was a chance to fight Moses for the world heavyweight title, we’d take it in a heartbeat.”

While Hearn admires Itauma, for all of the young heavyweight’s abilities he cautions against rushing him.

“I think that Moses has a lot of work to do. He’s an extraordinary talent but we have no idea if he can tick the boxes that are required to be a true great and a true champion in the division,” Hearn said. “What’s his chin like? What’s it like when it gets really tough in the trenches?

“Now he could tick all those boxes, I’m not questioning those, but you’ve got to show them and we’ve seen it [go wrong] over the years time and time again.

Tyson fury

“The reality is, Moses hasn’t fought anyone really yet,” Hearn added. “I want to see Moses against [Agit] Kabayel, against [Martin] Bakole, against Jarrell Miller. Someone who can stand up to him, take him four, five, six rounds and then ask some questions.

“Moses is going to be a world heavyweight champion… But I would take it a little bit slower.”

British boxing legend dares Fury: Fight  Joshua now or be remembered as a coward forever.

Amid heavy links to an eventual showdown next year, both Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have been warned against ending their careers with “regrets”.

Currently retired, former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has not yet booked his long-anticipated return to the ring since his back-to-back decision losses to Ukrainian rival Oleksandr Usyk.

As for former two-time champion Anthony Joshua, the Watford native has been out of action since his own loss, suffering a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois a year ago.

However, with links gathering pace on a summer showdown next year, Fury and Joshua have been urged by British boxing royalty to finally settle their grudge.

Lennox Lewis urges Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua to finally fight

As far as former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is concerned, a clash of Fury and Joshua must happen next year — or risk never happening at all.

Gervonta davis

He himself, considered one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time and arguably the best boxer in British history, Lewis admitted he would have regretted not fighting Mike Tyson. And fears Fury and Joshua would regret not facing each other.

“They [Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua] should fight each other,” Lewis told talkSPORT. “I think the British public is waiting for that fight. Like, you know, for me, my regret would have been not fighting Mike Tyson.

“…I think for the British fighters, they need to close the [heavyweight] era, too,” Lewis continued. “But if they don’t want to, it’s up to them. You know, they’re the kings for their — for what they want to do.”

And with Joshua expected to make a historic trip to Ghana at the beginning of next year for a return to boxing, a pairing with Fury has received quite a sizable boost.

Tyson Fury’s own future cast into doubt

But while Joshua’s future seems clearer to a degree, Fury’s own chances of making a walk to the ring have been thrown into jeopardy.

Issuing a scathing callout to the Morecambe native, Joshua admitted he hoped to share the ring with Fury in his immediate return to boxing.

However, as far as Fury’s long-time promoter Frank Warren is concerned, fans should not get too hopeful when it comes to seeing the ex-WBC kingpin in the ring soon.

“It’s Defeat Not Opportunity”: Canelo Alvarez Acknowledges Defeat to Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez isn’t crying robbery or making excuses about Saturday’s loss to Terence “Bud” Crawford.

“I feel very proud of everything I’ve achieved so far,” Canelo posted on social media. “We always want to win, but I accept this defeat with humility and learning.

“I am very grateful to my team for all the sacrifices we’ve made together over all these years. I already won because I have my family with me and millions of fans who have never stopped supporting me.”

Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KO) was beaten by decision, as Crawford (42-0, 31 KO) became the new undisputed super middleweight world champion, his third time as an undisputed champion of a division and the fifth weight class in which he’s won a world title.

Canelo, 35, was reportedly paid $150 million for the fight with Crawford, and could be considering retirement, but there will definitely be money fights available for him if he doesn’t, and probably will be for several more years.

Terence Crawford

Terence Crawford never wanted to be the face of boxing. He said it in fight week.

But after dismantling Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on Mexican Independence weekend, in front of 70,000 in Las Vegas and a likely record-breaking global audience on Netflix, he has no choice.

It wasn’t just a win. It was a career-defining, legacy-cementing, history-making performance.

Crawford became the first male fighter to be undisputed champion across three weight divisions in the four-belt era.

Before the fight Alvarez had dismissed Crawford’s resume, claiming he had “fought nobody”.

Within an hour of victory Crawford fired back on social media.

“For all the nobodies,” he said. Cue a figurative mic drop.

From his breakthrough world title against Britain’s Ricky Burns at lightweight in 2014 to cleaning out light-welterweight and welterweight, and now dethroning the sport’s biggest star at super-middleweight after moving up two divisions, Crawford’s CV gleams with rare accomplishment.

Anthony Joshua

Boxing doesn’t always recognise greatness until it’s gone.

But right now we have two unbeaten fighters – Crawford and heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk – who are guaranteed hall of famers. Both are in their late-30s, proving that age is just a number.

There’s even that clip of them playing chess in 2018. A stalemate? Perhaps. Because how do you separate their achievements?

The kid from Omaha who once needed counselling for his temper and who survived a shooting moved through the ring with a serene, almost unreadable focus.

All week Crawford exuded unrelenting confidence. There was no doubt in his mind.

He was relaxed and smiling throughout fight week, unfazed by the occasion. Even when he wound up the Mexican fans by making his entrance to a mariachi band, there was never a flicker of doubt he wouldn’t back it up.

That same calm assurance carried into the post-fight news conference, where he beamed with satisfaction.

“When I set my sights on doing something and I know what I’m capable of, it’s not like a surprise to me,” Crawford said.

“It’s a surprise to you all because you all didn’t believe me. I knew I could do it. I just needed an opportunity.”

Asked when he knew he had beaten Alvarez, Crawford coolly responded: “When he signed the contract.”

Inevitable comparisons will now be drawn with American great Floyd Mayweather, but Crawford batted them away.

“Floyd was the greatest of his era. I’m the greatest of this era. There’s no need to compare,” he said.

Eddie Hearn hints: A Joshua vs Fury clash could become the most monumental showdown boxing has ever seen.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has described the potential showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury as “the biggest fight in boxing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Matchroom chairman admitted he would “kick himself” if the two heavyweights never met in the ring.

“It would be a real, real shame if Tyson and AJ never fought. I don’t really have many regrets, but I think we would always kick ourselves if we never saw that fight. It’s the biggest fight in boxing,” Hearn said.

Joshua has not fought since suffering a knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024, while Fury has been inactive since back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, after which he briefly announced his retirement. Despite that, Hearn is confident the unified heavyweight champion will return.

He added: “You can’t even compare anything we’ve done so far; Froch-Groves, AJ-Klitschko, Benn-Eubank. This is completely different. It shuts down the country. Two great fighters, two different personalities, and two individuals the British public have wanted to see face each other for so long. Tell me a bigger fight in boxing? It doesn’t exist.”

Anthony Joshua

Joshua recently called Fury “dippy” on social media, a sign Hearn believes reflects the 35-year-old’s hunger for the fight.

“AJ has always held his tongue, but now he’s like, ‘why not?’ He wants this fight. We want the fight, we’re ready to talk. This isn’t goading Tyson Fury, it’s just facts,” Hearn said.

According to Hearn, Joshua is eyeing a tune-up fight in early 2026, while Fury may also want one before talks of a blockbuster clash can truly begin.

“The good news is that AJ has recovered, injury-free and ready to start training camp,” Hearn said. “He’s fired up and still has a lot to give. And if you look at Fury’s social media, he’s training again, which gives me hope. I think people around him feel like he’ll return.”

Anthony Joshua’s Comeback Explodes with Shocking Twist as Promoter Drops Date for Historic Fight

Anthony Joshua seems to be inching closer and closer to a return by the day, with the ex-champion now closing in on a specific date for a comeback.

Sidelined from action since last year, Anthony Joshua has been linked with all sorts of opponents in recent weeks, as he plans a return to the ring as soon as 2026

And with the likes of Tyson Fury floated for the Watford favorite in a hiatus-snapping return of his own, Joshua is now lined up for a definitive date.

If the return in question comes to fruition, too, it would mark a debut outing for Joshua in a certain region for the first time in his decorated heavyweight career.

As well as pairing with Fury, Joshua has also been urged to fight the likes of Jake Paul — a bout he has missed out on for the time being, as well as a pairing with fellow Olympic gold medal winner Tony Yoka.

Gervonta Davis

And following recent talks for a potential blockbuster outing in Africa as soon as next year, Joshua’s long-time promoter, Matchroom Boxing leader Eddie Hearn, revealed the former two-time champion is gearing up for a return in February.

“Yeah, I’d love him (Anthony Joshua) to [fight in Africa],” Hearn told IFL TV. “[In] February. I think it would be amazing. Yeah, Ghana. In Accra.”

Notably, a debut outing in Africa for Joshua would see the megastar fight in the UK, North America, and the Middle East throughout his illustrious career in the ring.
