Anthony Joshua Eyeing Comeback Against Olympic Gold Medalist: “A Real Possibility on the Table”

Anthony Joshua is plotting his ring return after almost a year out. Joshua was stopped in devastating fashion last time out back in September as he attempted to become a three-time world heavyweight champion. But it was Daniel Dubois who had his hand raised, and since then Joshua has been out recovering from minor elbow surgery.

Before the Dubois loss, ‘AJ’ had been in good form with KO wins over Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou, so he will be looking to recapture that form as he makes one final run at world honours.

He has been linked with the likes of Jake Paul and Deontay Wilder, while many still hope Tyson Fury will come out of retirement for what would be a huge all-British showdown.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing in the meantime, former European champion Spencer Oliver was asked what he made of the rumours regarding Joshua having a potential bout with former Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka.

“I think that is a great possibility. We get two Olympic gold medalists going at it. Tony Yoka is trying to rekindle his career. He went through a bad patch losing to the likes of Carlos Takam. He’s won his last three now. He last boxed in May. He’s very much on a rebuild as is AJ, doesn’t it makes sense, two Olympic medalist going at it. It would be a great fight, a sellable fight, and I’d love to see it.”

33-year-old Yoka is a French heavyweight boxer who won gold in the 2016 games and turned professional in 2017. Despite early promise and wins over Dave Allen, Christian Hammer and Johann Duhapas, he was derailed with a a trio of back-to-back defeats against Martin Bakole, Takam and Ryad Merhy, but has now won his last three, so could represent a good opponent for Joshua. Interestingly, Yoka was recently training with Dubois’ coach, Don Charles.

Anthony Joshua Sends Fans Into Frenzy: “2025 Might Be the Last Time You See Me Fight”

British boxer, Anthony Joshua, has dropped a big hint that 2025 could be his last year in the sport.

Anthony Joshua’s last fight came in September 2024, when he was knocked out by Daniel Dubois last September in the fifth round.

The 35-year-old, who made his professional debut in 2013, is expected to fight again later this year.

During an interview on the Ariel Helwani Show, Joshua claimed his “last punch” will be thrown this year.

Joshua was paying tribute to his promoters, MatchRoom Boxing, who has managed him all his career.

He said: “Long may you reign supreme and keep giving fighters opportunities to become champions and make boxing great.

“12 years ago, I signed with you and 12 years later I will throw my last punch with you.”

“Joshua’s Future in Doubt? Heavyweight Star Leaves Fans Guessing with Bold Retirement Hint”

Anthony Joshua was once the biggest British boxer, who provided his home fans with someone to get behind at the top level, since Lennox Lewis, he was the darling of the nation, especially after he clamied all but one of the belts in his April 2017 stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko, where the WBA and IBO belts joined the IBF strap in his cabinet.

The problem is that victory was over eight years ago, and Joshua hasn’t beaten some of that calibre since and in recent times, every time he has fought someone of that level, he’s lost badly. It now appears the Watford man himself shares the sentiment of many, and that is he should call it a day, if his Instagram story is anything to go by.

The End Maybe Near

Joshua posted a tribute to his promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, who Joshua has been with his whole career, in that post there was one line that suggested his career won’t see 2026.

‘Shout to Matchroom Boxing for all you have done for me and continue to do for me,’

‘Long may you reign supreme and keep giving fighters opportunities to become champions and make boxing great.

‘Royalty and loyalty is a perfect match for the great good. A toast to another 100 years of Matchroom Boxing

‘And to finish on this… If I could start from scratch, I wouldn’t change s***.’

Under the Matchroom banner, Joshua has become a two-time heavyweight champion but also suffered four defeats.

Joshua won the gold medal in the Super Heavyweight division at the 2012 London Olympics, defeating fellow professional. Zhilei Zhang in the Quarter-final.

Then after signing with Matchroom, he made his professional debut on the 5th October, with a first round knockout of Emanuele Leo. His next three opponents, Paul Butlin, Hrvoje Kisicek and Dorian Darch, did one better than Leo, making it to the second round before being stopped.

‘Why Drag It Out?: “Cruiserweight Star Pushes for Sudden Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua Fight

Anthony Joshua: Boxing fans have been fixated on the journey of #14-ranked Paul, who could face Zurdo Ramirez in a title showdown in the near future.

But the ‘Problem Child’ isn’t only calling out the champions in his division; he wants to punch above his weight and fight British heavyweight Anthony Joshua next year.
Of course, the callout itself sent boxing fans into a frenzy, with many dismissing the fight but former UFC star Darren Till believes Jake has nothing to lose.

An interested onlooker in the career of Paul is none other than Viddal Riley, who is under Joshua’s 258 Management banner.

The future cruiserweight champion, surprisingly, doesn’t hate the fight, which would see the influencer face a former unified champion.

Speaking on The Fight Card, he said: “It needs to be done now. I don’t want two or three fights for AJ I don’t want two more fights for Jake.

“If it’s going to happen, we want it next, a Christmas special.”

Set-up fights in boxing recently have gone south quite quickly, and AJ knows all too well after losing to Daniel Dubois by knockout, which ended the chances of an Oleksandr Usyk trilogy.

The ‘Rilist’ suggested a rematch against Tommy Fury should happen but explained the reason it won’t transpire is the fault of ‘TNT’.

“He should fight Tommy again, but Tommy’s out here fighting in Budapest. Tommy hasn’t kept his end of the deal, which is to continue to grow in separation,” he said.

Jake Paul can land a monumental WBC world title shot under one condition

All talk of a clash with Watford’s own Joshua has taken away from ‘El Gallo’s’ world title ambitions.

After beating former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the Ohio boxer called out two cruiserweight kings in Ramirez and WBC champion Badou Jack for a title belt fight.

Funnily enough, current British cruiserweight champion Viddal sits at #13 in the list, and a fight with these two would dig up old feuds from Riley’s past training KSI.

No one knows what the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer will do next, but with money on his mind, it’s not likely he’ll take a tough test against any of these talented fighters.

Heavyweight star blasts Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua matchup as “ridiculous,” says, “AJ is above that…”

Anthony Joshua: The talk about one of the most controversial fights in Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua has not died down yet.

Paul has made some enemies in his time, but has won over stars like Rampage Jackson, who hated the star for beating UFC fighters.

But Joshua seemingly wants to make the fight with Jake Paul, who revealed a serious message AJ sent him about a fight.

While Oleksandr Usyk crushed Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their Wembley showdown last week, we could be seeing an altogether different prospect if the ‘Problem Child’ squares off with AJ.

Dave Allen calls Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua ‘ridiculous’, picks Area champion to be favourite against YouTuber

Even though conversations haven’t slowed, heavyweight favourite Dave Allen has lambasted the fight because of the influencer’s ability.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Allen said: “Probably a bit late with this one, but I’m talking about it today, ridiculous, southern area cruiserweight champion is actually, I think, Lewis Oakford, who Pat stopped in a round.

“Now, Jake Paul is around that level. Oakford v Jake Paul, who would win? I’d make Oakford the favourite actually. I’d make him the favourite against Jake Paul.”

“Now imagine me saying he’s going to box Anthony Joshua, you’d say what the f – – -k you on about,” he continued.

“Jake Paul, I don’t think, is as good as him; he only fought one active pro fighter, and he lost.”

The loss against Tommy Fury saw the 28-year-old go back to what he knew in the form of Nate Diaz, but then compete against two club fighters to have more professionals on the record.

In his honest opinion, the ‘White Rhino’ can’t see the fight materialising in the near future.

He explained: “Him and Joshua, I don’t think it will happen, I think Anthony Joshua will see himself as above that; he has got all the money in the world anyway.”

After a successful rematch knockout win over Johnny Fisher, the 33-year-old has announced he has now agreed to a fight.

While he was hoping to fight for the British title, plans were scuppered by the British Boxing Board ordering Frazer Clarke to face Jeamie TKV.

Earlier in the video, he revealed: “He sent me a bunch of names, five names, and I said ‘f- – -ing hell Ed, I thought I might get a bit of an easy touch’ he said ‘no’, win one of them and your next fight will be a super duper fight.

“October in Sheffield I’ll headline… He will be the favourite, I think it’s a hard fight because he’s a big, powerful man, every time he’s won, bar one, he’s knocked them out.”

It has led to speculation that it could be against Arslanbek Makhmudov, but confirmation on the name will have to wait.

With The Emphatic Knockout ” A J” Pays Legendary Tribute  to Oleksandr Usyk after Daniel Dubois’ emphatic knockout win.”

Oleksandr Usyk’s brutal win over Daniel Dubois has gained a response from their shared rival, Anthony Joshua.

On Saturday night, Usyk brutally stopped Dubois in the fifth round with a stunning left hook to become a three-time undisputed champion.

Dubois became the latest of three Britons to have two defeats at the hand of Usyk.

Tyson Fury and Joshua make up the other two names on that list.

The Ukrainian superstar is also overall now 8-0 against an array of British greats which also include Tony Bellew and Derek Chisora.

Usyk named a short-list of potential opponents for his next outing which included Fury, Chisora, Joseph Parker and Joshua.

The 35-year-old shared a story on Instagram showing his respect for his two-time rival.

It saw him describe Usyk as having ‘legacy, identity, focus and family’.

Joshua also took the opportunity to tag famous 2017 rival Wladimir Klitschko, with the pair also sharing huge respect after their iconic duel.

AJ hasn’t been in the ring since he suffered a brutal KO defeat to Dubois last September.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn has recently revealed to talkSPORT that he will return before the end of the year.

Anthony joshua

He recently had surgery on his elbow, but has yet to announce exactly what his plans are for his return.

Joshua ideally wants to face Fury next and finally settle their rivalry.

But Fury shared his request for a trilogy match with Usyk instead as priority as he believes he can be the man to beat the undefeated star.

Should the pair enter the ring again, it won’t be until 2026.

A successful title defence would only further cement his legacy as the greatest heavyweight of the past two decades.

After his recent victory, the legendary star has been compared to the likes of Lennox Lewis and Muhammad Ali.

“All for the Joshua Showdown” Dubois’ Trainer Speaks Out on Usyk’s Pre-Fight Party Controversy

Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles insists the party before his KO defeat to Oleksandr Usyk was nothing new.

Dubois was brutally dropped and stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in the fifth round of their undisputed title clash at Wembley Stadium.

But the Briton faced immediate inquests from the boxing world, given that he arrived much later than his counterpart to Wembley Stadium.

Simon Jordan, talkSPORT host, revealed that a party had been thrown just hours before the event at Dubois’ home organised by his father.

There has been a huge backlash to the decision from across the boxing community regarding the decision to host so many people just hours before an undisputed fight.

But in an exclusive interview on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan, Charles insisted it was a tactic also used before he beat Anthony Joshua.

He explained: “Let’s retract that word, it wasn’t a party it was a gathering.

“The same gathering was used as the prep on fight day for the AJ fight, the day he won.

“A lot was made of it with the energy he walked out at for the Anthony Joshua fight. That gathering was taken from home to the dressing room for that fight.

“You Might Regret This Wish” –  Hearn Reacts Sharply to Shocking Joshua vs Jake Paul Clash Rumors

Eddie Hearn has given Jake Paul a clear warning about the dangers of fighting former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Since defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision last month, Paul has been pushing for a chance to fight AJ.

Once again Paul has called Joshua out, this time in an interview with The Stomping Ground, suggesting the Brit star has ‘a weak chin’.

The American was watching at Wembley Stadium ringside as Oleksandr Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois.

‘The Problem Child’ has also met with Turki Alalshikh recently, allegedly to try and get the fight over the line.

Joshua has been inactive in the ring since losing to Daniel Dubois last September, ending a four-fight win streak after his back-to-back defeats to Usyk.

A domestic clash between Tyson Fury and Joshua has always been a dream for fans and recent talk suggested that dream may be fulfilled should they both win their respective next fights.

But Fury insisted rather than a fight with Paul being a ‘tune-up’ for AJ, the American would dispatch him.

“I don’t know about tune-ups, I think Jake Paul knocks him out,” he told Ring Magazine.

“Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence After Oleksandr Usyk Destroys Daniel Dubois Again — What He Said Will Raise Eyebrows”

Oleksandr Usyk cemented his position as the best heavyweight of his generation with a demolition of Daniel Dubois in their rematch.

The Ukrainian became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion by beating Dubois in even more emphatic fashion than he did when they first met in 2023. On that night he stopped ‘DDD’ inside nine rounds, but this time, in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley, he knocked the Brit out four rounds earlier after a dominant performance from the first bell.

One man who was a keen observer was former Usyk and Dubois foe, Anthony Joshua. Speaking to ‘The Stomping Ground’ promoter Eddie Hearn revealed his conversation with ‘AJ’ in the wake of Dubois’ performance, with the former champion replying ‘I know’ when told he should have beaten ‘DDD’ when they met in September.

“Yeah, I spoke to AJ. I just text him and I said number 1, Usyk is unbelievable and number 2, we really should have beaten Dubois and he goes ‘I Know’.”

As for who’s next for Joshua, who’s last fight saw himself stopped by Dubois, Hearn now thinks Jake Paul is the most likely option

“I think right now to be honest with you in this bizarre world where we just saw Jake Paul facing off with Oleksandr Usyk, what is going on? The pound for pound number one fighter in the world is facing off with Jake Paul.

Anthony joshua

But it sounds like AJ is going to fight Jake Paul, if he’s true to his word and really wants the fight, it’s all very well saying ‘he’s got a weak chin and I’ll knock him out’, listen if he’s true to his word the fight will happen. If they actually want the fight then we can do the fight that does the biggest numbers in the sport. Forget Canelo vs Crawford, that doesn’t even touch the surface of AJ against Jake Paul.

If you want to o the biggest numbers in the sport we’ll make it happen but please be careful what you wish for, this ain’t a game, this is physically dangerous, so if you want to do it be careful but we will do it.”

Another possibility for Joshua is a long-awaited clash against Tyson Fury, although ‘The Gypsy King’ has made it clear he wants one more crack at Usyk.

Amir Khan Drops Bombshell, Suggests “A J” Has One Foot Out of Boxing in ‘Semi-Retirement’

Amir Khan discussed Anthony Joshua’s future and said the former heavyweight champion is currently in “semi-retirement”.

Anthony Joshua is currently in “semi-retirement” as talks of a long-awaited fight with Tyson Fury remain unresolved, according to Amir Khan.

Joshua has not fought since his emphatic loss to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024.

Since then, he has been linked with high-profile opponents, including Fury and Deontay Wilder, but no fight has yet been confirmed.

It is believed that Fury is open to coming out of retirement, having verbally agreed to return to face Joshua. However, negotiations remain ongoing as both camps work through financial details.

Khan recently met Joshua in Ghana and has now shared insights from their conversation.

He revealed Joshua’s current focus is away from the ring:

“He seems to be in semi-retirement.

“He’s looking at all business opportunities and stuff like that, but he has done all of the hard work, AJ has done great things in the sport and has done it all.

“He is an Olympic gold-medallist, a former two-time world champion and I think he’s one or two fights away from retiring or maybe one more fight and he’ll call it a day but that’s just my opinion.

“We all want to see the Tyson Fury fight, let’s hope they can make it happen.”

Fury announced his retirement in January 2025 after losing to Oleksandr Usyk. Yet the 36-year-old has a history of reversing such decisions, fuelling speculation he may return once again.

Amir Khan believes Fury’s comeback could hinge on a tune-up fight before a major bout with either Usyk or Joshua.

He said: “I hope Tyson comes back, he’s a friend of mine and Turki Alalshikh always gets a big fight for him as well.

“The loser of Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois would be a good fight next for Tyson as a tune-up fight.

“I have Daniel Dubois losing to Oleksandr Usyk and that would be a great comeback fight for Tyson as it is a fight still at the top (level) and then fight Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua which is the fight I want to see.

Anthony joshua

“There are a few good options still there for Fury because he is such a big name and has that backing.

On the possibility of a Fury vs Joshua clash, Khan believes the odds are now evenly split:

“With Fury and AJ, they have both had time out of the ring and I believe both fighters have a 50/50 chance of winning the fight.

“At first, I was favouring Tyson Fury but not anymore, I think it is a 50/50 fight.

“It is a fight where you can’t say who is going to win because is it the power or the boxing IQ that wins the fight? It’s hard to say.”
