Undefeated Boxing Star Gervonta Davis Opens Up on Bold Jump to Higher Weight Class

With less than two weeks before his showdown against undefeated WBA super lightweight champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios, Gervonta Davis has approached what’s being promoted as a career-defining challenge for him the same way as he did in any of his previous fights.

Davis (24-0, 23 KO) is jumping up two weight classes to take on Barrios (26-0, 17 KOs) on June 26 in a Showtime pay-per-view bout. Barrios, who has a 5½-inch advantage in height, is also 9-0 since moving to 140 pounds, with eight of those finishing by way of knockout. It will be the first time Davis has faced a challenger with the speed and power who could possibly take him the distance or place him in unfamiliar territory on fight night.

Even with those factors, Davis has sounded more curious than concerned when he’s addressed the challenges that Barrios presents him.

“I want to test his power and see how strong he is,” Davis says.

Even given this newest challenge and a chance to be a three-division world champ, Davis says there wasn’t any overhaul from a strength and conditioning standpoint or with his training camp due to fighting in a heavier weight class.

Anthony Joshua

“Everything is going smooth,” Davis says. “Camp has gone very well. I’m not sore, not hurt and it’s been going great. Even with moving up in weight, I didn’t have to lose that much weight, probably only a few pounds.”

He adds: “I don’t think this camp is any different. I’m just continuing to train hard. I always train hard, so this isn’t any different. It’s just a different opponent.”

Of the noticeable changes is an increase in his water intake and not as many Skittles as he’s used to. Davis still employs the same chef and nutritionist, and his diet remains similar to the spartan diet, which includes lean proteins, vegetables and healthy fats eaten every four hours. He didn’t want to focus on bulking up because he doesn’t want to be stuck in a weight class.

His meal plan included turkey bacon with eggs and mixed peppers for breakfast. For lunch, Davis would opt for tuna, spinach along with a light snack which would vary. Salmon would be the main dish come dinner time, along with smothered potatoes and either broccoli and asparagus.

While the two-weight-class jump has been newsworthy, Davis has enjoyed the consistency of his usual preparation. From his workouts, sparring and pad sessions, as with the bouts before he faces Barrios, the focus is all about performing his best and putting on a good show.

With consistency being the key, Gervonta Davis says you can also expect what boxing fans have become accustomed to from his performances on June 26 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

“Fireworks, Fourth of July,” Davis says. “You know how the fourth of July looks, right? That’s exactly how the fight is going to be.”

Anthony Joshua Finally Breaks Silence, Delivers Explosive Announcement on His Epic Boxing Comeback Date

Anthony Joshua has confirmed that he will return to action at the end of 2025 ending speculation on when his ring comeback may take place.

Last September, Joshua tried to become world champion for a third tome when he collided with Daniel Dubois at a sold-out Wembley Stadium .

Joshua entered the contest a huge favourite, but his dreams were ultimately shattered as he was dropped four times before being counted out in the fifth session.

Despite the loss, Joshua soon turned his attention to the undisputed heavyweight title rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk last December as a showdown between him and Fury appeared to be a real possibility.

This has left Joshua to explore other option with Deontay Wilder and a rematch with Dubois both mentioned for the former champion.

Despite no opponent being announced, Joshua has now confirmed that he will fght before 2025 is over.

“December I will fight again,” said Joshua when speaking to  ESPN Mexico .

“That’s when I want to fight again, I’ll take some time, and I will go in December. I just want to get my body feeling good and then I’ll fight. It’s a simple job.”

“We Should Have Fought” Gervonta Davis Reveals His Ultimate Dream Match

Gervonta Davis always makes headlines when he has a microphone in his hand, and this time was no exception. The boxer was a guest on ‘A Safe Place Podcast’, where he talked about everything and, as usual, Gervonta did not hold back and had no filter in giving his opinions

His use of social media, especially X, is somewhat controversial as he even messes with the haters who attack him on Elon Musk’s social network. He is quite a character, but in the ring he is one of the best in the world, that cannot be debated

The famous rapper Lil Yachty was very blunt in questioning Gervonta about whether his upcoming fight with Lamont Roach would be the last of his career.

The boxer left a response that reassured those familiar with the sport:

“I have more plans. Definitely some more heads on the wall,” Gervonta commented

Without a doubt, this will give his fans peace of mind, as he always threatens with the idea of hanging up his gloves and not returning.

‘Tank is sorry’

Gervonta Davis did not hide that he is very happy with his career, but he has a thorn in his side, because he wanted that fight no matter what.

“In the back of my mind. I was like, ‘Damn, he was a fighter that I was supposed to fight. Or I was asked to fight,'” said Gervonta.

Gervonta davis

Who is he talking about? ‘Tank’ refers to Vasyl Lomachenko. Last year they were very close to closing negotiations for that fight, but everything went downhill once the Ukrainian decided to pause his career

However, Davis does not endorse those who criticized Lomachenko for not accepting the proposal and is very sure that it is not about ‘fear‘:

“I felt like he didn’t like people saying he was scared or something like that. I thought I don’t think that’s the case,” the Baltimore boxer said

In this case, ‘Tank’ is on the Ukrainian’s side in thinking more about his family: “Now he’s older and has kids. Now it’s more about the kids. I feel like, you know, all that energy. I mean, we still want to make money, but now 80% is about the kids,” he said

Gervonta davis

On the other hand, a retirement for Loma would be very close according to his ideas, he placed December 2024 as his date to stop being a professional boxer, for now he still does not speak out and only leaves intrigue to the world of boxing.

Gervonta Davis: There Are Common Chances of beating Shakur Stevenson rated in bold prediction

Shakur Stevenson’s chances of beating Gervonta Davis have been brutally played down.

Stevenson was able to stop late replacement and part-time electrician Josh Padley in a hard-fought win in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in his most recent fight.

The American continues to eye a mega-fight with boxing superstar Davis, who is in action this coming weekend in a showdown with Lamont Roach in Brooklyn.

Gervonta Davis has refused to commit to a showdown with Stevenson so far, and has even suggested he could retire from the sport in 2025.

Despite the doubts over the fight materialising, the pair continue to get thrust together given their unique clash of styles.

And in the latest episode of talkBOXING assessing Stevenson’s latest performance, Spencer Oliver suggested Davis would simply be levels above Stevenson if the pair meet.

He said: “Stevenson has that safety first approach, the one that works for a boxing purist.

“But the one he hasn’t got is that punching power. He has got that Mayweather kind of safety-first style.

“But we live in the entertainment world today. And in terms of superstar status, Gervonta Davis takes him out.

Gervonta Davis Finally Faces the Question Everyone’s Been Afraid to Ask

Gervonta Davis sent a shockwave down the boxing world when he took to the stage to promote the Lamont Roach Jr. fight. Many expected him to lay out a plan for a more productive 2025—more fights, activity, and hopefully some big events under his GTD promotions. But it all came crashing down when the fans realized it was an announcement of his retirement.

Davis, 30, will stand across from Roach Jr., 29, on March 1, where he will defend his WBA title for the second time. The fans expected him to carry on the momentum he got from the Frank Martin fight this June. Instead, he gave fans an ultimatum—he is on his last run in boxing, which will end in 2025. He declared, “After next year, I’m out of it… Out of the sport.”

But why is ‘Tank’ eager to bask in the comforts of a retirement life when he’s only 30? What about the fans and the ambition to put on a show for them? It seems it’s all getting a bit too boring for Davis. He expressed his candid opinions about his retirement call when he appeared in an interview with Fight Hub TV.

he lost interest in the sweet science and grew weary of it. He declared, “It’s trash… This sh-t is trash, garbage… Fed up. Fed up with whole sh-t.”

Gervonta davis

These comments wouldn’t sit well with most fans, especially with those who campaigned and demanded he take up tougher fights and fight the best in the division. However, Davis found solace in making strategic calls, making money, and doing what he liked the most—knocking out opponents. The question remains: how will the fans remember the Baltimore native and how wil

Gervonta Davis: casting judgment on his legacy

Davis addressed the same question when he had a conversation with Fight Hype. When asked about whether he would insert his name among the greatest, the WBA champion disclosed, “I don’t even care about that, bro. I don’t even care about that, and where I’m from, bro, I will forever be greatest. I will be a forever G to myself.”

While the fans have only a year to enjoy Davis’ explosive boxing and backflips in the ring, it doesn’t mean his fight with Roach Jr. will be his last. He could squeeze in a couple of fights in 2025 before drawing curtains on his pro career. What’s more?

Gervonta davis

The lightweight champion is still under a multi-contract with the PBC, which spanned 6-7 fights, and also reportedly had a clause to fight Shakur Stevenson. What will happen to his contractual obligations now? No one is sure now. It remains to be seen how the situation develops and whether Davis is hellbent on sticking to his retirement plan.

What do you make of this comment by Gervonta Davis about his retirement? Do you believe he will hang up his gloves for good? Let us know in the comments below.

Eddie Hearn Stakes Claim for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ Next Fight

One of the more intriguing fights on the 2025 boxing calendar is the fight between Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. on August 16, which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. This bout for Davis’ WBA lightweight belt is a rematch from March 1, when Roach and Davis fought to a controversial majority draw.

The controversy stemmed from Davis taking a knee in the middle of the ninth round without this being called a knockdown by referee Steve Willis. After rising from the knee, Davis went to have his face wiped off by his corner (which is grounds for disqualification), which also went unpenalized. Either of these decisions from Davis receiving the proper consequence would have meant he lost the fight to Roach, thus suffering the first loss of his professional career.

Alas, that was not the case, as “Tank” managed to escape with a draw and keep his belt. And how the boxing world is keen to see if he’ll produce a better showing against Roach in this second bout.

If Davis does win, there are a plethora of potential opponents he could face. Perhaps the most popular pick would be WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who faces William Zepeda on July 12.

And in a July 2 interview, Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn (who is promoting Shakur for this upcoming fight) made a strong statement about a potential bout between Shakur and Davis.

“I think [Shakur is] going to want to have those big fights. Gervonta Davis against Shakur is another tremendous fight. One of the best in the sport. Let’s get next Saturday dealt with [and] won and that will be the crowning moment for Shakur Stevenson,” Hearn said.

Hearn certainly isn’t alone in wanting to see Shakur and Tank finally fight after having circled each other for years.

Biggest Come Back: Last Men Defeated by Gervonta Davis and Manny Pacquiao Could Share Huge Card As Both Hope To Reach The Top Once More

Manny Pacquiao has not scored a win in six years, and Gervonta Davis hasn’t scored a win in over a year.

It has been over 2,200 days since Manny Pacquiao scored his last victory. He came extremely close as he fought to a draw against Mario Barrios at the age of 46, a fight that, in the eyes of many, Pacquiao ought to have won.

Gervonta Davis, meanwhile, is coming off his most criticized performance as he fought to a draw against Lamont Roach. Roach would’ve won the fight if Davis taking a knee had been counted as a knockdown, as it should’ve been.

Davis hasn’t secured a win in over 400 days.

Though both men are coming off draws and hoping to rebuild, it is their most recent victims who are rumored to be rebuilding in a big way on the same card.

Keith Thurman and Frank Martin to face tough opposition on same card

Gervonta davis

In Pacquiao’s latest fight, he drew with Barrios, in the fight before he lost to Yordenis Ugas. His last win occurred back in 2019, when Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman by split decision, with a knockdown in the first round making all the difference.

Thurman, now 31-1, took three years off of boxing after the loss, before returning to defeat Barrios by unanimous decision in 2022.

After the win, Thurman went dark for another three years, before reappearing earlier this year against Australian Brock Jarvis, whom he blitzed in three rounds.

Thurman is rumored to be in talks to face 23-0 Vergil Ortiz Jr. next. Ortiz is on a great run of form having spent two years between 2022 and 2024 out of the ring, and has defeated Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov in his last two fights.

The fight is an extremely tough one for Thurman, who Pacquiao named a dog after, to take, though there is an equally tough match-up on the undercard.

Gervonta davis

Gervonta Davis’s last victim was Frank Martin, who Davis stopped in eight rounds, marking Tank’s fourth KO in a row after outpointing Isaac Cruz in 2021.

Martin is in talks to face Arnold Barboza Jr., who took his first loss recently to Teofimo Lopez, and defeated Jack Catterall one fight earlier.

Both Thurman and Martin will take on these tough challenges on the same card, if reports are accurate.

Interestingly, Pacquiao himself may also face Rolly Romero, Davis’ former foe, though this would not be on the same card as Thurman or Martin’s fights.

Keith Thurman vs Vergil Ortiz & Frank Martin vs Arnold Barboza – The stats

With these fights rumored to land on a PBC vs Golden Boy card in October, it is worth assessing how much chance each fighter has against the other.

On one hand, Thurman and Martin will both be disadvantaged by their periods of inactivity, with Martin having not fought since his loss to Davis and Thurman having stepped into the ring just twice in the last six years.

Ortiz is also on an impressive run at the moment, and despite Barboza’s recent loss, he is also in formidable form having fought multiple times against high level opposition recently.

Boxing Star Gervonta Davis and Vanessa Posso Locked in Violent Dispute and High-Stakes Custody Clash

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is widely regarded as one of boxing’s biggest stars. The undefeated Baltimore native has made a significant impact on the sport, solidifying his place among the best fighters in the game. Yet, while his accomplishments in the ring are well-documented, aspects of his personal life remain less familiar to some boxing fans—such as his relationship with Vanessa Posso.

Posso, of course, is not only Davis’ girlfriend but also the mother of his children. As Davis prepares to defend his title against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, here’s everything you need to know about the woman by his side.

Who is Vanessa Posso? Is she still with Gervonta Davis?

Vanessa Posso made her name in the boxing world after she started dating the champ, Gervonta Davis. But being with one of the best boxers in the world did not stop her from achieving success of her own. She did not let Davis’s popularity overshadow her. According to Famous Birthdays, Posso was born on May 30, 1988, and is currently 36 years old.

Posso is an Instagram model and influencer with a fan following of over 700,000 on the platform. She has also entered the world of business and has her own Jewelry brand, RichKidz, which specializes in body chains and sterling silver jewelry. The couple is not married as of now but has been in a relationship for a long time. According to reports, they have been dating since January 2022.

Vanessa Posso and Gervonta Davis share two children, a daughter and a son. Their daughter, Giovanna, was born in October 2021, while their son, Gianni Bryant Davis, arrived on August 14, 2024. Notably, while Gianni is Davis’ only son, Posso has an older daughter from a previous relationship. She shares 12-year-old Jada Milan with rapper Suga J from their time together.

Controversial past between Vanessa Posso and Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis and Vanessa Posso’s relationship has been marked by controversy, with legal issues casting a shadow over their history. The first controversy between the couple made headlines when Gervonta Davis confessed to having cheated on his girlfriend. And took to Instagram to make some bold claims about himself. And these claims by Davis started an online feud between his girlfriend Posso and Ashley Burgos, the girl he was cheating with allegedly. The online feud went on to such an extent that the two challenged each other to meet in LA.

The most recent incident occurred in December 2022 when Davis was arrested in Broward County, Florida, for allegedly striking Posso during an altercation. Police reports stated that Davis used a “closed hand type slap,” leaving Posso with a small abrasion on her upper lip. However, Posso later recanted, calling her initial report “unnecessary” and formally requesting that the charges be dropped. Despite her statement, prosecutors initially pursued the case before eventually dropping it months later.

This wasn’t the first time Davis faced domestic violence allegations. In February 2020, he was arrested in Miami for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Andretta Smothers, the mother of his first daughter. A viral video showed him grabbing Smothers at a charity basketball game. That case dragged on for nearly three years before charges were abandoned in December 2022, just weeks before his arrest involving Posso.

Manny Pacccquiao

Although the legal issues have been resolved, Davis remains a polarizing figure. His talent in the ring keeps him in the spotlight but repeated off-the-ring controversies continue to raise questions about his personal life and public image.

That being said, Gervonta Davis seems to have a complicated relationship with his girlfriend and the mother of his children Vanessa Posso. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Maryland Court Issues Verdict in Gervonta Davis’ Financial Dispute With Ex-Manager

A court has sided with Gervonta Davis in his monetary dispute with former manager.

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was recently involved in a legal battle with former manager Wayne Roy and creditor Kevin Batiste.

Back in October 2013, Davis signed a five-year agreement with Roy, agreeing that the manager would receive 15% of all fight-related earnings. However, by February 2014, Davis and the pair would agree to end thier working relationship.

A release agreement was reached where Davis had to pay Roy and Batiste $35,000 over the next two years. However, in 2017, they filed a case against ‘Tank’, claiming they were paid only $2,000. When Davis failed to show up to court, the Judge entered a default order against him finding him in breach of contract.

Davis eventually would pay Roy and Batiste $468,000 to settle the case. However, Roy and Batiste never recorded the judgement satisfied and didn’t inform the court of any agreement. Instead, they continued discovery in the case and eventually requested additional payments from Davis for his subsequent fights.

Gervonta davis

The court has now ruled on the case, finding Gervonta Davis free of any obligation to make additional payments. The court’s chief judge Gregory Wells wrote

Once Davis paid the $468,000, the judgment was satisfied, and there was no longer a money judgment to modify. If there is no money judgment to modify, Creditors cannot continue to pursue post-judgment discovery against Davis for a ‘hypothetical or potential money judgment.’

Gervonta Davis last fought in March and had a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach. ‘Tank’ and Roach will now face off again in a rematch according to widespread reports. Any official announcement on the matter is yet to come.

Despite Glaser’s claims, members of Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ team have pushed back, with trainer Kenny Ellis dismissing the report as “fake news.”

As things stand, Gervonta Davis‘ boxing future is murkier than ever. No one know what exactly is going through the mind of “Tank“, but the idea of walking away from the sport has weighed on him over the past year. He first mentioned the possibility before his fight against Frank Martin in June of 2024.

A middling performance against a surprising Lamont Roach Jr. has some high-profile boxers lining up to get a shot at Tank. Shakur Stevenson is the biggest one of them all, putting pressure on Davis through the media space. It’s a fight fans want to see, but Stevenson may never actually get the chance, because Davis might not fight again

Gervonta Davis reportedly is retiring from boxing… or is he?

Boxing agent and insider Rick Glaser dropped a bombshell this week, claiming that Davis is retiring because he is “supposedly fed up with boxing”. Glaser believes he won’t fight again, at least until “his money runs low”. Glaser cited “several very reliable sources”, so it’s not just a random report.

Despite Glaser’s insistence, members of Tank’s team have come out to dispute it. One of his trainers, Kenny Ellis, called it “fake news”.

No one is quite sure what to make of all of it, but clearly Davis’ future is fully up in the air. By the sound of it, Davis is just waiting for a big-money offer in order to make a decision on how he will continue his career.

In the meantime, he has legal troubles he has to get through anyway. Until those are resolved, he won’t be fighting in a ring anytime soon.
