“Let’s make that clear”Former world champion says he signed for Gervonta Davis rematch but “they chose not to”

Gervonta Davis is set to return to action later this year, but one former opponent has now revealed that he had signed for a rematch with ‘Tank’, only for the three-division world champion to then have a change of heart

Davis has not won a fight in almost two years, with his most recent outing coming against former WBA super-featherweight world champion Lamont Roach Jnr back in March 2025, where he retained both his WBA lightweight crown and undefeated record by the skin of his teeth – lucky to escape with a draw.

External issues have since kept Davis away from the ring and that inactivity has caused the Baltimore knockout artist to be downgraded from WBA champion to ‘champion-in-recess’.

In order to regain the full world title, Davis will need to overcome 21-year-old mandatory challenger Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield, with that fight having been ordered by the World Boxing Association.

Speaking with FightHype, recent foe Roach has now revealed that he signed for a rematch with Davis following their draw, blaming the 31-year-old for the lack of a second fight.

“Obviously that is the rematch that I want, they chose not to do the rematch, just so that everyone knows. We were ready, we signed our contract, we did our business to make the rematch happen – the other side didn’t. So let’s just make that clear.

Anthony Joshua

“Other than that, I am not too worried about it. I am not hanging my hat on a Gervonta Davis rematch, I did what I was supposed to do that night in the ring, I should have got the victory but it is what it is, life goes on, man, and I am going to move on to bigger and better things.”

Roach will compete for the vacant WBC lightweight world title when he fights William Zepeda on Saturday, August 1. Victory in that bout could tee up an intriguing unification and rematch with Davis, if the latter is able to overcome Schofield in the autumn

Judge orders Gervonta Davis to jail after boxer spent house arrest at Four Seasons, luxury condo

Boxing champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was serving out his home detention sentence for a 2020 hit-and-run at a Four Seasons Hotel and a $3.4 million high-rise penthouse that he bought in South Baltimore, prompting a judge on Thursday to order him to immediately be taken into custody.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy said she gave permission for Davis, 28, who had been living in Parkland, Florida, to do the house arrest at the home of his longtime coach and trainer, Calvin Ford, in Baltimore. She said she was never asked to change that location.

“The reason I didn’t want him in Florida is because this was not a holiday,” said Handy, who later added that she did not want Davis to be sitting by the pool or hanging out at the spa. “He was serving time. And I was being considerate enough to let him do it on home detention.”

The Baltimore Banner reviewed a recording of the court proceeding, which started after 5:15 p.m. The hearing neither appeared on the daily calendar for Baltimore Circuit Court nor was docketed in the Maryland Judiciary Case Search.

Throughout the hearing, Michael Tomko, Davis’ attorney, repeatedly told the judge to blame him.

Tomko said he and his client were caught off guard with the requirement to do the house arrest in Baltimore. Ford, though, has a one-bedroom home that could not accommodate the team that provides 24/7 security to Davis.

At one point, Tomko implored the judge to not punish Davis for having fame or money, adding that it’s sometimes hard for individuals to understand that “people can attack famous people or hurt them or not want them to fight or win.”

No one wanted him to live in the hotel, Tomko said. He said he worked with his client’s team to buy the condo as quickly as possible to move Davis to a safe location.

“I don’t think that Mr. Davis did anything wrong except listen to his lawyer,” he later added.

But Handy said Davis had plenty of time before his sentencing to find a place in Baltimore. She said she considered his safety when handing down the punishment, noting “he certainly didn’t do anything to impress me at his sentencing.”

Davis did not speak at the hearing.

Later, Handy revoked Davis’ home detention and ordered him to immediately begin serving the “remaining balance of his sentence.”

“Judge,” Tomko said, “how is that fair?”

Gervonta Lined Up for Explosive Super-Fight Rematch,“There’s Never Been a Fight Like This Before”

Gervonta Davis has been called out for a money-spinning rematch, most likely at a weight where he would be forced to contend with a considerable size discrepancy.

The 31-year-old has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach, who was ultimately denied a monumental upset victory in March.

Their lightweight encounter was then followed by the bizarre news that Davis, who still holds the WBA world title at 135lbs, would be entering an exhibition match with Jake Paul

The pair were supposed to meet at a catchweight of 195lbs on November 14, before ‘Tank’ was ruled out of their Netflix event due to fresh allegations of domestic violence.

Instead, Paul suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua last Friday, with Davis still facing legal action from his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel.

As of now, it is difficult to gauge whether the Baltimore man will ever return to the ring, let alone defend his WBA title against a worthy challenger.

But, nevertheless, Ryan Garcia has now thrown his hat into the ring for a potential rematch, hoping to avenge his seventh-round stoppage defeat of 2023.

The 27-year-old is expected to challenge WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios this coming February, despite suffering a points loss to Rolando Romero in May.

But while that does appear to be the plan, Garcia has nonetheless expressed his interest in a second encounter with Davis.

Sharing his thoughts on X, ‘King Ry’ signalled that he hopes to be involved in another blockbuster event, whether it be a Davis rematch or something of equal magnitude

“To be real there hasn’t been a fight like my fight with Gervonta. We brought OG super fight back for one night. I want to do another one like that.”

Garcia has made no secret that he wants to avenge his loss to ‘Tank,’ citing the rehydration clause as the reason behind the dominant defeat. As he now campaigns at 147lbs and doesn’t look to be dropping back down, running it back with the naturally smaller Davis seems more unlikely than ever.

“Gervonta Davis’ Trainer Reveals His Biggest Worry Ahead of the Jake Paul Showdown”

Gervonta Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford has concerns over one particular rule ahead of ‘Tank’s’ showdown with Jake Paul.

The two stars are set to go head-to-head in an exhibition dust-up at the Kaseya Center in Florida on November 14. With just over a month to go until the controversial clash, there has already been some pre-fight drama after the event was relocated from Georgia after the commission objected to the monumental weight disparity between the two fighters.

Following confirmation of the fight, many fans were left wondering about the rules of the contest. Their clash will be an exhibition bout, over 10, 3-minute rounds, as revealed by MVP chief Nakisa Bidarian. “There will be a victor because the fighters have agreed and the commission has approved a maximum weight of 195lbs for this exhibition. The fight will be contested over 10 three-minute rounds, and when Tank and Jake enter the squared circle to go to battle, they will be wearing 12oz gloves,” said Bidarian.

“Sitting ringside will be three commission-approved world-class professional judges that will score every round to ensure there’s a decisive outcome for the fight if it goes the distance. And both men are enrolled in the highest level of testing with USADA.”

Gervonta Davis

Paul is predominately a cruiserweight (200lbs) – despite moving up to heavyweight for his win over Mike Tyson last November. As for Davis, the American has fought at lightweight (135lbs) throughout the majority of his career so far.

Despite the huge weight disparity and the 195lb limit on fight night, Ford is more aggrieved with the fact that both Paul and Davis will be wearing 12oz gloves on fight night. “I said the fight was doable because I watched Tank for years and watched other young men in gyms deal with big guys,” Ford told Fight Hub TV.

“Yes, he’s big. To me it’s like Jake having his first open fights, if anyone knows about the amateurs. My only concern is the gloves because we don’t fight in 12 oz gloves, we don’t use 12 oz gloves, that’s training gloves. So my thing is, ‘Put Tank in eights, put (Jake) in tens.’

“That makes the fight more interesting, and we’ll go from there. And I brought that up to one of his handlers, and they say, ‘No, we don’t want to do no mix and match.’ It’s supposed to be an exhibition…He can wear the tens and we wear the eights, then we got a fight.”

During a launch press-conference last month, Paul vowed to score a statement finish in November. “I haven’t got a knockout in a long time, so I’m itching. I’m just excited to be able to deliver that for the fans and have another most viral knockouts ever,” he said.

Terence Crawford

Davis himself was quick to offer his take on how the fight will potentially play out. “I’m much quicker than him. He’s much stronger and much bigger, but we all know that it’s harder for taller fighters to fight a shorter one,” he said. “He’s decent and he’s gonna hold up for a couple of rounds – but once it gets hot in there, you know how things play out.”

“Gervonta Davis Vows Ruthless Humiliation-‘This Leech Will Be Destroyed’: Target Is Jake Paul”

Gervonta davis : Jake Paul‘s fights have become synonymous with spectacle, always with controversy assured, and the clash against Gervonta Davisis no exception

Among the different voices that have given their prediction and opinion on the fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis, former boxer Tim Bradley recently did not hesitate to say that it will be an uneven fight, where the undefeated champion will end up “erasing” the influencer turned boxer.

Tim Bradley predicts crushing victory for Gervonta Davis

Tim Bradley, former world champion and now analyst, made statements that quickly set social networks on fire, because, in his view, the difference in talent between Davis and Paul is abysmal:

“It’s like a bee and an elephant. Jake is big, but the bee is going to scare him and make him run,”Bradley commented on his channel, referring to the speed and accuracy of “Tank” Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) against a much larger Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), but with less technical resources and experience.

In addition, Bradley called Paul a “leech“, claiming that he has used his fame on social media to generate millions in boxing without the need to win titles.

Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis prediction

Although Bradley assures that the result is practically written, the background indicates that Jake Paul is not a simple opponent. In addition, Davis already suffered when he faced taller and stronger opponents, as happened against Mario Barrios in 2021. In that fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself had to motivate his pupil, reminding him that he was at a disadvantage. Finally, Tank reacted and achieved a knockout in the 11th round, demonstrating his great resilience and technique to succeed in unfavorable moments.

On this occasion, Jake Paul not only has greater height and reach, but he will also be using 10-ounce gloves, which could increase the danger of his punching

When and where to watch the Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight?

The event will take place on November 14, 2025, at the Kaseya Center in Miami. As for the broadcast, it will be exclusively through the streaming platform Netflix.

This is a fight that promises a great show, and everything points to it being another success for Jake Paul, even if he loses, as he has managed to turn his name into a profitable business.

Since 2023, the influencer has generated around $83.6 million in earnings. If he keeps up that pace, in less than a decade he could accumulate more than half a billion without the need to conquer world belts, which is why he generates so much discomfort among traditional boxing figures such as Bradley.

Lamont Roach Jr Nears Ring Return After Shocking Davis Rematch Negotiations Collapse

AFTER the frustration of failing to land a rematch with Gervonta Davis, the next step in Lamont Roach Jr’s career looks set to be revealed in the coming days.

The WBA super-featherweight champion almost defied the odds and public expectations on March 1 when he earned a draw against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. The 114-114, 113-115 (Roach), 114-114 scorecards were met with discontent, with many believing Roach deserved the win. The outcome may have been different had Roach been awarded a 10-8 round in the ninth, when Davis went to a knee from a jab. Referee Steve Willis initially looked set to administer an eight-count but changed his mind. Davis later claimed the knockdown was the result of hair product getting into his eyes.

A Davis-Roach rematch had been lined up for August, but the fight was scrapped after Davis was arrested in July for allegedly striking his ex-girlfriend. Last month, all charges against the 30-year-old were dropped.

Another twist followed soon after when Davis announced he would face Jake Paul in an exhibition on November 15.

Roach’s manager, Roberto Diaz, told Boxing News what “The Reaper” is hoping for next, amid rumours of a clash with Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz.

“He told me, when he realised the rematch wasn’t happening, ‘Go get me the biggest fight out there.’ He’s willing to fight anybody. He wanted Shakur [Stevenson]. There’s several names out there that I was like, ‘Wow, really?’

“Hopefully, we get the announcement soon and the fans will be very happy.”

Reaction to Davis vs. Paul has been largely negative.

Davis is regarded as a pound-for-pound talent and a multiple titleholder, yet has chosen to step away from the professional circuit to face a man who will enjoy significant height and weight advantages for a lot of money.

“When they made the announcement that he’s fighting Jake Paul it was sort of a little bit of a shock,” Diaz said.

“At the end of the day he’s one of the top names in boxing, one of the top draws in boxing. We saw it at the first fight. He showed up five hours late for the press conference, two hours late for the weigh-in. We got to dance to the beat that’s given. Until we win, until we knock him out, until we take it – go do your thing ‘Tank’. And we hope to see you next year so we can do it again.”

With No Charges Filed: Charges Against Boxing Superstar Davis Suddenly Dropped in Domestic Case

Domestic violence charges have been dropped against unbeaten world lightweight boxing champion Gervonta Davis over a June incident with his ex-girlfriend.

The Miami-Dade County Clerk’s Office website showed a misdemeanor battery charge was discharged on Tuesday when the woman declined to prosecute Davis.

The 30-year-old American had been involved in a Father’s Day incident outside the home of the woman, who has two children by the fighter, and was arrested on July 11 in Miami Beach.

Davis, a southpaw boxer, is 30-0 with one draw and 28 knockouts. His most recent bout was a controversial majority draw against compatriot Lamont Roach in New York last March in which Davis kept the World Boxing Association lightweight crown.

It’s not known when Davis will return to the ring, although there had been talk of a rematch with Roach, 25-1 with two drawn and 10 knockouts, before the arrest.

It’s about Redemption Not Repeat: Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Ready for High-Stakes Las Vegas Rematch

The countdown is on, and the stakes could not be higher. On August 16, 2025, the boxing world will shift its gaze to the glittering lights of T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Lamont “The Reaper” Roach Jr. will step back into the ring for a rematch that has been brewing ever since their controversial first meeting earlier this year.

For Davis, it’s about redemption—reclaiming his dominance and silencing critics who questioned his performance in their initial clash. For Roach, it’s about proving that March’s outcome was no accident and that he has what it takes to outsmart and outwork one of the sport’s most feared punchers.

Their first showdown on March 1, 2025, ended in a majority draw, a decision that sent shockwaves through the boxing community. In a fight filled with tension, tactical shifts, and bursts of explosive exchanges, the most talked-about moment came in the ninth round when Davis took a knee—without an official knockdown call—sparking widespread confusion.

While some analysts argued that Roach’s defensive discipline and sharp counters earned him enough rounds to warrant the draw, others maintained that Davis’s power and ring control made him the rightful victor. The debate raged on, making a rematch not just inevitable, but essential.

Gervonta Davis is no stranger to the big stage or to pressure. With a reputation for devastating knockouts and an undefeated record on the line, the Baltimore native thrives under the spotlight. But the draw against Roach was a rare moment of vulnerability—a blemish in a career built on finishing fights in emphatic fashion.

“I’m not leaving it to the judges this time,” Davis declared in a recent press conference. “Last fight, things got messy. This time, I’m coming to dominate from the opening bell.”

Lamont Roach Jr., meanwhile, enters this rematch brimming with confidence. Known for his technical precision and patient approach, the Washington D.C. native has often been overlooked in discussions about the sport’s elite. That changed after March 1, when he stood toe-to-toe with “Tank” and refused to back down.

“They said I couldn’t handle his power, but I proved them wrong,” Roach said. “Now I’m going to prove it wasn’t luck. I can beat him, and in Vegas, the world’s going to see it.”

With Explosive Hint Gervonta Davis and Deontay Wilder Ignite Boxing World with Explosive Hint at Mega-Fight Showdown

Let’s clear up any confusion right from the start: the author of this article does not intend to compare Gervonta Davis and Deontay Wilder in terms of their boxing skills. The two American athletes are completely different in style and characteristics, with Davis undoubtedly possessing a far superior technical repertoire compared to his compatriot. However, there is one aspect, purely psychological, where a potential parallel can be drawn between the Bronze Bomber and the small puncher from Baltimore.

After becoming world champion in January 2015, Deontay Wilder remained on the WBC throne for more than five years, successfully defending his world title ten times. In each of those ten defenses, he entered the ring as a clear favorite.

However, despite always retaining his crown, several of his performances were far from perfect. Sometimes he fell behind on the scorecards, sometimes he was shaken by his opponent’s punches, and sometimes he displayed significant technical flaws. Nevertheless, his inhuman right-hand power always bailed him out, allowing him to keep both his belt and his unbeaten record.

This string of victories against lower-level opponents, while solidifying Wilder’s status as an elite heavyweight of his era, also had a significant and not entirely beneficial impact on the American boxer’s psyche. The Bronze Bomber became convinced that his right hand would always save him and that the numerous imperfections in his game plan were essentially insignificant and unworthy of excessive attention.

Wilder genuinely believed he no longer needed to improve, a conviction he repeatedly expressed in various interviews as world champion. For instance, in Rome, he told Italian journalists that technique in heavyweight boxing is not that important, and after his second victory over Cuban Luis Ortiz, he stated that his opponents must be perfect for 36 minutes, whereas he only needs to be perfect for 2 seconds.

Gervonta Davis Issues Explosive Demand for Lamont Roach Rematch After Fiery Social Media Clash — What Happens Next?

GERVONTA DAVIS has expressed his interest in an immediate rematch with Lamont Roach Jr, despite previously claiming that he would face a different opponent next.

‘Tank’ was taken the distance for only the third time in his career, with Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs) producing an assertive performance before suffering a controversial draw last Saturday.

The pair squared off on an absorbing encounter at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, headlining an Amazon Prime pay-per-view card.

But while Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), was a firm favourite heading into their clash, the only fighter left feeling truly aggrieved by the judges’ scorecards was Roach.

In the ninth round, referee Steve Willis issued a count in response to Davis taking a knee, but then ruled it a no-knockdown shortly after the Baltimore bruiser sprung back to his feet.

Naturally, the incident has been a major point of criticism, with Roach ultimately being denied a 10-8 round that would have swung the result in his favour.

Gervonta davis

After retaining his WBA world lightweight title, Davis then told media members at his post-fight press conference that a rematch is unlikely to happen next.

In doing so, he also hinted that, despite wanting a second encounter with Roach, an opponent for his next outing has already been lined up.
