Gervonta Davis Has Made It Clear Whether Coach Calvin Ford Will Return For Lamont Roach Rematch

Gervonta Davis has made an important decision ahead of his rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland clashes with Roach for the second time this year in a defence of his WBA world lightweight title, with the fight set to take place in Las Vegas on Saturday August 16

Their first encounter, which took place on March 1, ended in controversy after the fight was declared a majority decision draw although many have argued that Roach did more than enough on the night to have his raised.

‘Tank’ took a knee to the canvas during the ninth round after being on the receiving end of a Roach jab, but referee Steve Willis failed to rule this as an official knockdown, effectively squandering ‘The Reaper’s chances of handing Davis the first defeat of his career.

Speaking to Fight Hype, Kenny Ellis, who is one of Davis’ coaches, shared an insight into the unbeaten 30-year-old’s preparations for his second showdown with Roach.

“He’s doing great man, it’s just another fight, we’re getting prepared for it and I’m sure they’re doing the same thing.

Going into the first fight much was made on why long-time coach Calvin Ford was not in the corner, however, has confirmed that he will be returning for the rermatch.

“Yes, yes [Calvin will be back in the corner].”

Davis has received criticism for his performance against Roach first time around, but the 30-year-old will have his sights set on righting the wrongs of their first clash and proving that he remains the number one lightweight on the planet by defeating Roach in impressive fashion.

Anthony Joshua: George Groves has claimed that a blockbuster bout between Joshua vs Fury bout signed

Anthony Joshua: Former world champion George Groves has claimed that a blockbuster bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is either already signed or close to being finalised, saying both fighters are likely to meet next without interim bouts, The PUNCH reports.

Groves said he believes Fury’s temporary retreat from the spotlight is simply part of the build-up before an official announcement.

“I don’t think you need to convince him,” Groves said in an exclusive interview with CasinoBeats when asked what it would take to bring Fury out of his brief retirement.

“I think it’s done. He’s fighting Joshua. He’s just switched off from boxing for a bit. I’m almost certain that the fight is either signed, sealed, delivered and just not announced, or well on its way to being done.”

The former WBA super-middleweight champion added that both heavyweights are past the stage of needing warm-up fights and are ready to face each other despite their recent form.

“Joshua wouldn’t have a warm-up fight. Those ships have sailed. They’ll just fight each other,” Groves said.

“They’re both coming off losses, so neither of them is in particularly good form. Fury’s probably been in worse form than Joshua. Joshua got beat by Dubois. Up till then, he was doing okay.

“Knocked out a cage fighter. Fury had life and death with a cage fighter. So yeah, it’s two heavyweights, former world champions, they want to roll around, have a little fight.”

Groves even suggested tongue-in-cheek that the long-awaited fight could happen in a cage, referencing the pair’s recent respective match-ups with MMA crossovers.

Reflecting on Joshua’s place in British heavyweight history, Groves offered a strong comparison with another former world champion, David Haye. While many fans have fantasised about a Joshua-Haye dream match-up, Groves was clear on where he stands.

“Haye was a lot better fighter than Anthony Joshua,” Groves said bluntly.

“He was so fast, so powerful. If he hit you, he could get rid of you. And I’ve seen him spar the likes of Deontay Wilder, Carlos Takam and other quality heavyweights in his prime. He handled almost all of them.”

The 37-year-old, who trained with Haye during his career, recalled just how difficult it was to even land a jab on the former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion.

“I had a lightning-fast jab, really good reactions, but I couldn’t land a glove on him. He could jab and feel like he shoved my teeth out of my head. It was the most frustrating thing ever. Heavyweights shouldn’t be able to do that,” Groves recounted.

He described a hypothetical fight between Haye and Joshua as a shootout but maintained that Haye’s technical gifts and speed gave him the edge, even if both had the power to end it with one shot.

“Haye was a gifted amateur. He won silver at the World Championships. Maybe I’ve seen more of Haye than Joshua so I’ve got a bit of bias, but I think it would have been a 50–50 fight. A great one.”

Groves, who retired in 2018, and remains one of the most respected voices in British boxing also weighed in on recent rumours surrounding Dillian Whyte and Moses Itauma, after Derek Chisora reportedly turned down a £2m offer to face the 29-year-old heavyweight prospect.

“Whyte’s in it for the paydays,” Groves said.

“He doesn’t have the credibility or the profile of Chisora. His options aren’t the same.”

Asked about Whyte’s interest in reigniting a fight with Anthony Joshua, Groves referenced their scrapped bout last year and Joshua’s well-known stance on drug offences in the sport.

“They were scheduled to fight again, weren’t they? Then Whyte tested positive for drugs. And Joshua isn’t a fan of that,” he said. “When Big Baby Miller did that to him, Ruiz stepped in and he came unstuck. Joshua doesn’t like last-minute replacements and he definitely doesn’t like drugs in the sport.”

He didn’t fake it’ Novak Djokovic refused the vaccine even if it meant giving up Slam records, he didn’t fake it’

Novak Djokovic: Rafael Nadal wasn’t initially adored by tennis fans as many preferred the “most loved player” Roger Federer, but things changed once Novak Djokovic arrived on the scene.

That is the view of former world No 6 Gilles Simon in a wide-ranging interview.

The Big Three of Djokovic, Nadal and Federer dominated men’s tennis for the best part of two decades as they shared 66 Grand Slams between them and set numerous other milestones along the way.

Federer initially led the way as he made his major breakthrough at Wimbledon in 2003, but his stranglehold was broken when Nadal arrived in 2005 with his French Open title and they formed the Big Two.

Djokovic – who won his first major at the 2008 Australian Open – then made it the Big Three and he eventually went on to broke several of Federer and Nadal’s records, including the Open Era Grand Slam record as he sits on 24 with Nadal on 22 and Federer 20

But Djokovic has not always received the love and affection of Federer and Nadal as fans didn’t like the fact that he broke up the original Big Two.

In an interview with RG Media and CLAY, Simon says Nadal was also initially an outcast.

“Remember, Roger was the most loved player, maybe ever. And most fans didn’t like Rafa when he showed up,” the Frenchman said.

Novak Djokovic

“But they started liking him more when Novak came on the scene. I’m 100% sure of it. Rafa became more appreciated once fans started comparing him to Novak instead of Roger.”

He added: “Novak was already better than most when he arrived, but he was still behind Roger and Rafa.

“I don’t think many people believed he’d surpass them — not even Roger and Rafa themselves. So when he started doing it, people didn’t like it. Everyone loved the Roger–Rafa rivalry. They didn’t want a third guy.”

Carlos Alcaraz: Jannik Sinner’s Epic Clash with Carlos Alcaraz, Wimbledon’s 2025 Thrilling Showdown

Carlos Alcaraz: In a shocking turn of events, tennis expert Greg Rusedski has predicted Jannik Sinner to outshine Carlos Alcaraz at the upcoming Wimbledon 2025. This bold statement comes despite Alcaraz’s recent victories at Roland Garros and Queen’s, as well as being the reigning champion at the prestigious London tournament for the past two years. Rusedski, a former British number one, also weighed in on Jack Draper’s chances, labeling him as the fourth favorite for the title behind Sinner, Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.

With Wimbledon just around the corner, all eyes are on these tennis prodigies as they gear up for the grass court season. Alcaraz is aiming for a historic third consecutive title, while Sinner is hungry for his first Wimbledon victory. However, the competition is fierce, with Djokovic also in the mix, vying for his 25th Grand Slam title.

As the Big Three descend upon London for their grass court preparations, the stage is set for an epic showdown. The tournament kicks off on June 30th for Alcaraz, as the defending champion, and on July 1st for the rest of the contenders. Fans are eagerly anticipating the drama and excitement that Wimbledon never fails to deliver, with each player ready to leave it all on the court in pursuit of glory.

Wimbledon champion: Carlos Alcaraz seals mega sponsorship deal with one of Emma Raducanu’s backers

Carlos Alcaraz’s growing collection of sponsors has a new addition, after it was confirmed that the Wimbledon champion has signed a mega-money deal with Evian.

Alcaraz is one of the most attractive players for the world’s leading brands to sign up after a sensational start to his career, with his epic French Open final win against Jannik Sinner earlier this month cementing his status as a sporting superstar.

Now the world No 2 has joined Emma Raducanu, Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fils as an Evian brand ambassador, as he looks to cash in on his remarkable success on the court at the age of just 22.

“Hydration is an important part of my daily routine and I’m excited to work with a brand that celebrates the joy of feeling youthful and full of life. I hope we can inspire others to prioritise their well-being,” said Alcaraz as his Evian deal was confirmed.

Alcaraz adds Evian to a list of sponsors that includes Nike, Babolat, Rolex, BMW, Calvin Klein, and Louis Vuitton, with the scramble to be a part of his story certain to gather momentum in the years to come.

With Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal leaving the tennis stage following their retirements and Novak Djokovic set to follow them soon into the tennis afterlife, Alcaraz is now the prized asset for any major brand looking to sign up a tennis star.

His beaming smile and clean-cut personality ensure he will provide a guaranteed boost for any brand, with Evian making a shrewd move by signing up the 22-year-old.

The value of this deal was not disclosed, but it has been suggested that Alcaraz will be offered seven-figure sums for deals of this nature.

Raducanu was also attracting offers of that scale after her 2021 US Open win, but her stock has fallen dramatically over the last four years as she has struggled to replicate the form she showed during that famous run in New York.

There have been suggestions that she has lost some of her big sponsorship deals in recent months, but the press release announcing the Alcaraz deal with Evian confirmed the British star is also still part of their brand ambassador roster.

2025 U.S OPEN

It means Evian will have a doubles dream team playing together at this year’s US Open, after it was confirmed that Alcaraz and Raducanu will team up in this mixed doubles tournament.

A revamped doubles event at this year’s US Open will see a host of big-name stars playing in a tournament that will take place a week before the singles, with Alcaraz and Raducanu’s double act an eye-catching combination.

“She’s gonna be the boss. I’m super excited about it,” said Alcaraz as he spoke about his doubles match-up with Raducanu. “I think it’s going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament.

“I’ve known Emma for a really long time ago, so we know each other. I have a really good relationship with her. We are going to enjoy it, for sure.

carlos alcaraz

“I will try to bring my doubles skill. We will try to win, but obviously it’s going to be really, really fun.

“I was thinking that I couldn’t play better unless it was with Emma. I just asked Emma if she wants to play doubles with me. Yeah, I made that special request.”

Raducanu was also asked about the US Open pairing as she prepared to play at the Eastbourne Open and it was clear that she was excited by the prospect.

“I’ve known him for years and actually in Wimbledon 2021, it was like kind of the first time I started getting to know him, and I had a good run there and then also again in the US Open in 2021,” she said.

“And I remember he was always playing the day before me and I was playing like the second day of the round. And I would see him win and then I would have the motivation to win and get myself into that position too.

“Let’s Get It On”: Deontay Wilder Sets His Sights On Former Heavyweight Champion After Comeback Fight

Deontay Wilder is set for his long-awaited return to the ring this weekend. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was last in action in June 2024, when he suffered a fifth round knockout defeat to Zhilei Zhang in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

That continued a poor run of form for the former WBC heavyweight champion which has seen him come up short in four of his last five fights, having also been on the wrong end of a points loss to Joseph Parker and two stoppage defeats to Tyson Fury.

Wilder now looks to get his career back on track when he takes on the unheralded Tyrrell Herndon at the Charles Koch Arena in Kansas on Friday.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ is expected to win the bout and add to the 42 knockouts he has recorded in his career so far, and he has now hinted at who he wants next following his comeback.

Wilder was asked to describe some of his heavyweight rivals, and when long-term foe Anthony Joshua was brought up, the American had a simple response.

“Let’s get it on.”

Wilder and Joshua have been linked to a fight with one another for nearly a decade, dating back to when both men each held versions of the world heavyweight title.

Just like Wilder, Joshua has found things difficult as of late, having suffered a fifth round knockout defeat to IBF champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September.

‘AJ’ is currently recovering from minor elbow surgery but is expected to return to the ring later this year, with a bout against Wilder now seemingly a possibility.

It Called For Rematch As: Eddie Hearn Makes His “Incredible Momentum”Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois Rematch Prediction

Eddie Hearn: Oleksandr Usyk‘s rematch with Daniel Dubois is less than a month away, and promoter Eddie Hearn has given insight into how he thinks it will play out.

Dubois and Usyk first faced off back in August 2023. Usyk was put with a shot that was ruled low, given time to recover and went on to stop the Brit in the ninth round.

Since then he has twice beaten Tyson Fury to become undisputed ruler before dropping the IBF belt to honour the rematch. Dubois has fought three times and won by stoppage on each occasion, elevated to IBF Champion after beating Filip Hrgovic and then defending that status against former two time ruler Anthony Joshua.

Speaking to DAZN Boxing, Hearn outlined where Dubois is at right now in his career.

“It’s a great fight. For Dubois, the inactivity, missing out on the Joseph Parker fight might hurt him a little bit. The momentum for Dubois has been incredible. He beat Miller, he beat Hrgovic, he beat Joshua.

“But it will be 10 months out of the ring. I still think he will have the confidence, but he could have done with that fight, or maybe this fight three months ago. When they fought last time I don’t think that was the best Usyk by any stretch, but I also don’t think it was the Daniel Dubois we have now.

“At that stage, he went to Poland and gave Usyk a decent fight. He didn’t win many rounds but he gave him a good fight, and obviously the controversial low blow as well. Now I think Dubois has a lot more confidence. “

He then broke down his chances of taking the win.

Eddie Earn

“The reality is it’s for the undisputed heavyweight world championship. You know, Daniel Dubois could be the undisputed world heavyweight champion. I don’t think he will be, but he can punch and he is strong.

“When you fight Usyk, people say the bigger man has got to be more dominant and push him back and that is what everyone said about ‘AJ’, but it’s not that easy. Look at the size of ‘AJ’, look at the size of Tyson Fury. They weren’t able to get on the front foot, beat him up and push him back. Can Daniel Dubois do it? Probably not, but he’s young, heavy-handed and confident, and he’s in the fight.”

If Usyk wins on July 19 at Wembley Stadium, he will be a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion – three time in total having won all the belts at cruiserweight – with little left to achieve in the sport. Dubois, of course, wants to end his career without letting him achieve that historic feat.

For Many Years: Anthony Joshua Delivers Honest Verdict On Whether Deontay Wilder Should Retire

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are both nearing the end of their careers. For many years, both of these heavyweights dominated the division. Joshua unifyed the WBO, WBA and IBF belts with impressive wins over the likes of Parker, Wladimir Klitschko, Carlos Takam, Alexander Povetkin and Andy Ruiz in a rematch, having lost the first time around in his US debut.

It was Oleksandr Usyk who then dethroned the Brit in 2021 and beat him again in their rematch a year later. Though ‘AJ’ rebuilt, he was stopped by Daniel Dubois in September 2024 while attempting to become a three-time world champion.

Meanwhile, Wilder was stateside with the WBC title and knocking out every man he faced until he came unstuck twice to Tyson Fury. He went on to lose two more fights against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, which has led him to take a full year away from the sport and for many in the game to call him to retire.

Speaking to BoxNation, Joshua was recently asked if he thought ‘The Bronze Bomber’ should hang up his gloves for good.
