Blood For Blood: Terence Crawford gives Rudest Statements as Canelo Alvarez demands rule change for mega-fight: ‘Big head’
Terence Crawford: Verbal shots are being exchanged in the press tour ahead of Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s bout.
The pound-for-pound pairing will dust up under the bright lights of the world in Las Vegas on September 13.
And the pair kicked off at fiery encounter in New York this week with Alvarez addressing Turki Alalshikh, suggesting they fight in a smaller ring.
Crawford hit back by saying: “The only running that I’ll be doing is running upside his head… and he’s got a big head too.”
The American has adopted a more aggressive approach in the lead up, recently saying that he’ll be ‘hunting’ Canelo after his opponent made a call for a bigger ring.
“I’m just going to keep it real,” said Crawford. “I’m hunting him, that’s it. I’m hunting everything that he’s got and I’m going to take it come September 13.”
These verbal jabs were heard at the second of four promotional press conferences being held in the lead up to their mega fight at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Latest Updates: Time & Venue
The pair will have to wait until September 13 to exchange physical blows, although Canelo did shove Crawford after ‘Bud’ marched across the stage towards him in New York.
Resulting in them being separated after a brief altercation between entourages and security staff.
Both fighters have been successful across four weight divisions, in their respective careers thus far.
While Canelo’s professional record sits at 63-2-2, with 39 KOs, the four-weight world champion Crawford has promised to hand his hugely popular opponent a devastating defeat.
Crawford has a spotless undefeated record of 41 victories with 31 by way of knockout.
The American in his most recent encounter struggled to victory over Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision to clinch a world title at super-welterweight, his fourth division.
The four-weight division titleholder is making the jump up two divisions, in order to make this bout happen.
Canelo may have also conquered four weight classes, but recently went the distance in an uneventful 12 round bout.
Who Next ?
Following the dull unanimous decision win against Scull, Canelo will be hoping to entertain audiences more than he did the last time.
Especially as Alalshikh recently announced that there will be a huge financial boost up for grabs if either of the super middleweight men deliver a knock out.
Crawford and Alvarez’s showdown is being compared to that of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
It promises to be a legacy-defining night for the victor, with Crawford likely to go down as an all-time great if he pulls off an upset.
