22-year-old Emma Raducanu embracing Wimbledon spirit as British star guns for glory

Emma Raducanu As the first day of Wimbledon unfolds under record-breaking heat, Emma Raducanu finds herself once again in the spotlight, not just as Britain’s top female player but as a figure of national hope and pride as the 22-year-old is set to lead the British challenge.

She steps onto the court on Monday, June 30 and takes to the All England Club with characteristic determination as she aims to become the first British female singles champion since Virginia Wade in 1977.

“I just want to go out there and embrace the moment,” said Raducanu to reporters. “It is a big occasion every year and that buzz of winning at Wimbledon, honestly, not much beats it.”

Raducanu’s presence is emblematic of the new generation of British tennis talent as she is joined by fellow British No.1 Jack Draper, a close childhood friend, both looking to pick up the mantle left in the wake of Andy Murray.

Their dual ascension to the top of the national rankings in both the men’s and women’s games underscores the promise of this emerging cohort and the golden era of modern British tennis the nation is enjoying.

“It’s amazing. I’ve known him for so long, so many years,” Raducanu said of Draper. “We were both promising juniors and now to be British No.1 on both men and women’s side, it’s pretty cool.”

It’s a factor that could further challenge players already grappling with the tournament’s intense pressure, especially for Emma as she works her way through a back injury.

The problem flared up before the French Open and returned during her Queen’s Club quarter-final loss to Qinwen Zheng. Although she was forced to withdraw from Berlin due to the spasms, Raducanu appeared in Eastbourne ahead of Wimbledon.

Emma Raducanu

“It’s okay. I’m still managing it, to be honest. I have good days and bad days with it,” Raducanu explained. “I trained a fair bit last week in London and it was good.

“I was getting a lot of treatment and then woke up pretty stiff at the weekend, took a day off and then trained yesterday and today.

Grand Slam Title Wimbledon 2025: Can Alcaraz and Gauff win another major? What about Djokovic?

Alcaraz: Just three weeks ago, Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz were crowned French Open champions — and both are among the favorites again as Wimbledon begins Monday.

Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion at the All England Club — could he become the fifth man in the Open era to achieve a three-peat at Wimbledon? Or will Jannik Sinner avenge his French Open final loss to Alcaraz to win his first Grand Slam title on grass?

Gauff, meanwhile, has now won two major titles but has never made it past the fourth round at Wimbledon. And the women’s field is wide open — the past eight Wimbledon titles have been won by different women.

Could Aryna Sabalenka win her first Wimbledon title? Or will Iga Swiatek bounce back from a difficult year to claim the crown?

And what about Novak Djokovic? Could he somehow win a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title?

Aryna Sabalenka

How will Gauff follow up her French Open title?

D’Arcy Maine: Gauff arrives at Wimbledon — where she has been as beloved as just about any player since her breakthrough at the event in 2019 — brimming with confidence and self-belief and certainly could be in a position to have her best result at the tournament.

But it’s not going to be easy. Despite her auspicious debut six years ago at the All England Club in which she reached the fourth round, she has never advanced past that point and lost in her opening-round match in her lone grass-court lead-in event in Berlin earlier this month.

And, perhaps most importantly, she is in an incredibly tough quarter of the draw and could face a number of challenging opponents, including Dayana Yastremska in the first round, potential second- and third-round meetings with former Australian Open champions Victoria Azarenka and Sofia Kenin (who upset her at Wimbledon in 2023), grass standout Liudmila Samsonova in the fourth round and either five-time major victor Iga Swiatek or 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals. So, that’s a tall order and I’m frankly exhausted just typing all of that. Gauff certainly could win all of those matches, but it seems unlikely she will win major title No. 3 during the fortnight.

Coco gauff

Bill Connelly: Gauff is definitely to the point where it would not be a surprise if she won any single tournament — her defense and speed are always elite, as is her ability to grind out wins when things threaten to go wayward. But her draw has so many landmines, and she’s only 9-6 on grass over the past two years. In fact, even including that initial upset of Venus Williams six years ago, she’s just 7-9 all time against top-50 players on grass, including three straight losses. She’ll likely have to get past three top-50 players just to get to Rybakina or Swiatek in the quarterfinals. That sounds like a bit too much to ask.

Simon Cambers: This could go one of two ways. Either Gauff goes to Wimbledon feeling as if she can do anything, buoyed by the confidence of winning at Roland Garros, or she’ll be exhausted, mentally, and lose early. It’s a funny one, this. In some ways, she should be high on confidence after winning the French Open and there’s no doubt that she’ll be walking even taller after coming out on top in Paris.

“Anthony Joshua is an insane fighter: But I want the challenge, Jake Paul Calls former champion Anthony Joshua to fight him next year

Anthony Joshua: Not long after the sweat had dried following Jake Paul’s victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., he disclosed he’s in talks to fight another former champion: Anthony Joshua, who held the unified heavyweight belts in 2016 and 2021.

“Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge,” Paul said at a post-fight news conference Saturday, June 28. “We’ve been DM’ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”

In his last fight, Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) suffered a devastating fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois. But at 6-6, he would have a five-inch height advantage over Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) along with significantly more experience.

“I like the challenge,” Paul said. “That’s the criticism, people will say, ‘Fight someone in their prime who’s a beast.’ I think people just really want to see me lose. That’s really what the message is behind it all.”

Jake Paul lists other options for next fight

Even though Paul’s negotiations with Canelo Alvarez unraveled in February, he said a fight between the two still could materialize.

“No, he’s not out of the picture,” said Paul, who added that it could hinge on Paul winning a cruiserweight world title. That would lure Alvarez into the ring because it would give him a chance to become a five-weight champion, Paul speculated.

“I think that would be what interests him, and that’s the plan,” Paul said.

Other potential future opponents, Paul said, include WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack, WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and Tommy Fury, the only boxer to beat Paul. Fury won that eight-round fight by unanimous decision in 2023.

“I don’t even think I was a fighter then,” Paul said. “That was like 2 1/2 years into the sport, and I didn’t know what I was doing. I didn’t have the proper team around me. I didn’t have conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still that of a YouTuber, celebrity, actor, whatever I was at that point in time.

“So I wasn’t fully focused on boxing. Like I said, chapter one is done tonight, and now we’re moving into chapter two. I’m just getting warmed up in the sport. People hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion, and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

‘I want that challenge’ Anthony Joshua Directly Challenged By Jake Paul Ahead next year Fight

Anthony Joshua: YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul has improved his professional fight record to 12-1 and turned his attentions back to British heavyweight Anthony Joshua.

Paul defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in Southern California on Saturday.

The 28-year-old’s only loss in the ring was seven fights and more than two years ago against Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia.

Despite a fiercely partisan crowd in favour of his opponent, Paul tore out of his corner early on and fought off a late flurry to hold on to the win.

After seeing off Chavez, Paul teased imminent confirmation of a highly anticipated transatlantic slobberknocker.

Joshua would have a height and weight advantage over a younger opponent but Paul isn’t cowed by the prospect of a pummelling.

“You look at Deontay Wilder; he was beating these guys weighing 215 pounds, [Joshua is] like 6ft 6in or something, but anything is possible.

“Anthony Joshua is an insane fight, but I want that challenge.”

Joshua, 35, has claimed 25 of his 28 professional wins by knockout and has been beaten four times.

One of those losses was a fifth-round knockout by Daniel Dubois in his last fight in September 2024. Dubois walked away as the IBF heavyweight champion having successfully defended the belt he was given after it was vacated by Oleksandr Usyk.

Chavez suggested after Saturday’s fight that Paul started strong but tired, saying that the Cleveland-born boxer isn’t ready to step up to the next level against champions like Joshua.

Nevertheless, the wheels are turning and Paul vs Joshua appears to be in the works for 2026.

Anthony joshua

“We’ve been DM-ing back and forth. He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year,” Paul revealed in Anaheim on Saturday.

Since turning pro in 2020, Paul has won seven fights by knockout.

Last November, he won by decision against 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a massively hyped fight in Arlington, Texas.

Joshua’s last win came in March 2024 against Francis Ngannou, who he beat by knockout in the second round in Riyadh.

The promising youngsters Charlie Woods and Kai Trump put their skills to the test once more at the two-round tournament over the past few days, although things went slightly better for one than the other

Charlie Woods and Kai Trump once again caught the eye as they competed in the 41st edition of the Nicklaus Junior Championship this week, although it was the former who ended up by far the happier come the end of the two-round tournament.

The teenagers, bearing the weight of such huge names on their back, have emerged as two of the nation’s most promising golfers within their respective age categories, and put their skills to the test once more by teeing off in Florida over the past two days. It comes four months after the duo struggled at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in March.

By the end of that tournament, Woods, son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, finished 25th out of 36 players, while Trump, daughter of Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr., and granddaughter of President Donald Trump, finished last out of 24 in her draw. Despite their unconvincing performances, they still saw a notable boost in their American Junior Golf Association rankings.

Since then, both have seen vast improvements in their performances. Woods, 16, won the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, before securing his place in the U.S Junior Amateur Championship in July, while Trump, 18, finished in second-place at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Major Championship earlier this month.

On Tuesday, however, only one of them could continue their recent good run of form. By the time the Nicklaus Junior Championship wrapped up at the private Tequesta Country Club, located north of the pro golf enclave of Jupiter, it was Woods who emerged the happiest.

After finishing even-par for the tournament with a final round 69 (2-under), he placed sixth in a field of 122 boys golfers, finishing just four shots back of eventual winner Jeremy Hsu of Port St. Lucie, who won the tournament at 4-under.

Charlie Woods

Trump, meanwhile, finished tied for 21st out of 32 golfers, having struggled to a final round score of a 3-over 74, putting her 17-over for the tournament. That’s despite playing the front nine at 1-under – the best of any girls player in the final round.

Woods’ performance was just the latest example of his rapid rise up the ranks, having already risen from No. 606 to No. 14. following his first win on the junior golf circuit last month.

Like Trump, he remains in high school, although the president’s granddaughter has already committed to play golf at the University of Miami in 2030, having announced her decision last year.

It isn’t just their golf skills and famous family ties which have gained them plenty of attention in recent times, however. Earlier this year, Woods’ dad, Tiger, went public with his relationship with Trump’s mum, Vanessa.

Charlie Woods: With two of their parents dating each other, all eyes were on the children of Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump at a junior golf tournament in Florida.

Also teeing off was Kai Trump, the daughter of Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr, and the granddaughter of President Donald Trump.

Both Charlie and and Kai are in high school – with Kai already committed to play golf at the University of Miami as a part of their Class of 2030.

Charlie, on the other hand, is starting to make a name for himself after a notable win on the junior golf circuit which saw his ranking jump from No. 606 to No. 14.

It’s been an eventful year for the Woods family after Tiger went public with his relationship with Vanessa Trump.

That announcement came 10 days after DailyMail.com exclusively broke the news that the golf icon was dating Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife.

Alongside two pictures of the loved-up couple, Woods wrote: ‘Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together.

‘At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.’

The couple have the blessing of the President, with Trump himself saying he was happy when he learned that they had become an item.

‘He told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good. I’m very, happy for both.’ But they just let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great,’ Trump said.

‘I love Tiger and I love Vanessa. He and I have a very special, very good relationship with Tiger. I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete.’

Additionally, Tiger’s mother, Kultida, passed away in February – a devastating blow as the matriarch of the Woods family died at the age of 80.

Tiger himself has been absent from the course after suffering an injury to his Achilles as he prepared for the Masters back in April. However, he was recently seen without a brace on his knee riding a golf cart while watching Charlie.

With The Open Championship coming up next month, it’s unclear if Tiger will have rehabbed his injury in time.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Sums Up Jake Paul’s Chance Of Winning World Title In Just 2 Words After Loss

Jake Paul beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision at the Honda Center, Anaheim, extending his professional record to 12-1 and handed the Mexican his seventh loss.

Chavez, 39 and years past his fighting best, seemed allergic to offense in the opening rounds, plodding forward but throwing very little and allowing Paul to build a steady lead

The fight followed that pattern, Chavez reluctant and Paul landing enough to win the rounds, showing that he has made some small additions to his arsenal in the form of bodywork and uppercuts. It was not a high level contest,

Chavez rallied in the ninth, finally doing enough to win the round and testing Paul’s chin a little. He looked to do the same in the tenth and final but had less success and lost wide on the cards.

Post-fight, Paul once again called out cruiserweight world champions Gilberto Ramirez – who defended his unified titles on the undercard with a points win over Yuniel Dorticos – and Badou Jack.

Though Chavez was complimentary in his own interview, he said that he feels the American is ‘not ready’ for a world title run.

“He’s strong. A good boxer [for] the first three, four rounds. After that, I feel I tired him. I don’t think he’s ready for the champions, but he’s a good fighter.”

Paul said he would fight again this year, naming the two champions above as well as lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis and Tommy Fury – the only man to have beaten him – as options.

Tells Doubters Jake Paul Beats Julio César Chávez Jr. by Unanimous Decision in 10-Round Fight, Tells Doubters to ‘Shut the F— Up’ After Win

Jake Paul‘s anticipated return to the ring ended with a victorious win against Julio César Chávez Jr. after going 10 rounds.

The fight took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. on Saturday night. With a record of 11 wins and one loss, including seven knockout victories, this boxing match marks Paul’s latest win following a seven-month hiatus from the sport. His most publicized fight was against Mike Tyson in November 2024, which ended with Paul handily defeating the 58-year-old boxing great. The event became one of the most-watched sporting events on Netflix, peaking at an estimated 65 million viewers globally.

Outside of Tyson, Chávez Jr. has held a strong record with 54 wins, one draw and six losses, including 34 knockouts. From 2011 to 2012, he held the WBC middleweight title until losing to Sergio Martinez that same year. Since then, he has faced highs and lows throughout his career, including a previous defeat in 2021 against former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, whom Paul defeated in 2022.

His father, the former three-division world champion Julio César Chávez, expressed his high hopes for his son before he entered the ring with Paul.

“All fights are difficult. Jake Paul is young and strong, but he’s never faced a fighter like my son,” he said during a press conference in May. “I would’ve given Mike Tyson a better fight. He didn’t throw one punch the whole fight. This time is different.”

There were six other fights on the main card before Paul vs. Chávez Jr. The co-main event featured a battle between Gilberto Ramírez and Yuniel Dorticos, which ended in TK’s victory.

“He’s A Great Fighter” Gervonta Davis Reveals His Honest Score For His Fight Against Lamont Roach: “He’s A Great Fighter”

Gervonta Davis is gearing up for his highly-anticipated rematch with Lamont Roach. The two men originally met back in March, in a controversial bout that saw ‘Tank’ retain his WBA lightweight title after a majority decision draw.

The judges scored the fight 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, but a lot of fans felt that Roach should have been given the verdict to be crowned as a new world champion at 135lbs.

One of the reasons why many fans feel that way was due to a moment in the ninth round when ‘Tank’ voluntarily took a knee, but no knockdown was scored by the referee, something that would have swung the scorecards in Roach’s favour if a 10-8 round had been scored.

Ahead of the bout with Roach, Davis had been linked to big fights against a number of other names, but the controversy from their first battle has now led to a rematch, which is set to take place in August in Las Vegas.

Speaking about the first fight, ‘Tank’ revealed to Fight Hub TV how he scored their initial contest.

“I didn’t get the decision I wanted but we didn’t get a loss. I thought I won it with the last couple of rounds.

Gervonta davis

It’s cool, Lamont is a great fighter.”

Davis will be hoping to secure the win in August to retain his WBA lightweight title, in a division which has been blown open in recent days after the retirement of one of the reigning world champions.

Vasiliy Lomachenko has hung up the gloves after an incredible career, meaning Raymond Muratalla is likely to be elevated from interim champion to full IBF champion in the near future, potentially paving a way for a future unification opportunity for Davis.

Hardest Opponent at Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic Reveals What Makes Carlos Alcaraz a Difficult Opponent at Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz participated in a practice on Centre Court at Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament. With microphones on, the Serb gave reasons behind the difficulties of playing Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

Djokovic, who has won Wimbledon seven times, believes that the balls at SW19 are more slower than what they were previously. This makes players like Alcaraz difficult to beat at the net. Djokovic said on-court at Centre Court:

The Wimbledon balls are slower than they used to be. It truly becomes challenging to overcome players like Carlos Alcaraz when they come to the net.

Djokovic and Alcaraz have played the last two Wimbledon finals, with the Spaniard winning both of those matches. They are projected to face each other in the finals once again this year at SW19.
