Waited for years, It Is Now Anthony Joshua In Haste to KO The Bronze Bomber’ in surprise location years before his drab comeback win

Anthony Joshua’s return to the ring has been delayed after an injury, but his return could see the making of a fight fans have wanted for years.

For years fans have requested Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder, and on several occasions a fight between the pair seemed like the logical next move.

In 2023 the fight got close once again, with AJ and Wilder co-heading a double bill that aimed to set up the mega-fight. Whilst AJ held up his end, Wilder lost to Joseph Parker by unanimous decision.

Despite Wilder’s series of losses, he has returned with a win over Tyrrell Herndon, which could now set up a fight with Joshua sometime at the end of the year.

Joshua wanted the fight seven years ago, and had an out-of-the-box idea regarding its location.

Anthony Joshua wanted to stage Deontay Wilder fight in Nigeria seven years ago

Seven years ago, in 2017, IFL spoke to AJ ahead of his fight against Carlos Takam in Cardiff, Wales.

In that interview, AJ spoke on his upcoming fight, which he won via 10th-round TKO, but also spoke on the Deontay Wilder fight, and where it should be hosted.

The topic arose when Joshua was asked if he thought he’d ever fight in his home country of Nigeria.

Joshua said, “It could happen. It just has to be the right fight. I think me and Wilder, God willing that fight comes off which it has to, would be good for Nigeria, but then it’s good for Vegas as well.”

Wilder and Joshua are both of Nigerian heritage, so the location is not unreasonable for the mega-fight between the pair.

Ahead of his fight with Herndon, it was revealed that Wilder had parted ways with his trainer Malik Scott, who oversaw just one win in his time with ‘The Bronze Bomber’.

Wilder knocked out Scott as an opponent years before they teamed up.

Wilder teamed up with Don House, who used to coach Bermane Stiverne, the only man Wilder has beaten on points.

Stiverne broke Wilder’s 32-KO streak when they fought for the world title, but was ironed out in one round in their rematch.

£218,000 Per DAY: Gypsy King Tyson Fury’s staggering 9-figure fortune revealed as Gypsy King, 36, banks £218k PER DAY

Tyson Fury: Former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury is earning a staggering £218,000 a day. The 36-year-old’s private company, which he uses to manage his earnings, boasts assets exceeding £160million. Tyson Fury Limited reported an impressive profit of £79million between September 2023 and last September, according to recently filed accounts. Its net worth has nearly doubled from the previous year’s £82million, according to The Mirror.

Fury, who lists his profession as “professional boxer”, is the sole director of the company. The accounts reveal a dividend payment of £100,000 to Fury, which is £50,000 less than what he paid himself the previous year. The business does not report any turnover on Companies House, so it remains unclear how much revenue it generated. The company’s operations are listed as “other letting and operating of own or leased real estate, public relations and communications activities, as well as other sports activities.”

Father-of-seven Fury established his company in 2013, and the twelve-month period covered by the accounts predates his retirement following his December 2024 defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. However, it does include his loss to the towering Ukrainian last June, where he lost his heavyweight title.

The two boxers shared a jaw-dropping £150 million for their December bout in Saudi Arabia, which Fury lost on points. While the fighter is not in a hurry to return to the ring, he remains bitter about the result.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman recently said: “I call him regularly and he said: ‘Oh I’m so happy, retired, I’m here with my wife.’ He didn’t hint whatsoever that he was planning on coming back.

“He told me he was not happy with the decision in the second fight with Usyk. He’s still very bitter about the judges’ scoring and he was very upset but he was retired, that’s what he said.”

The Gypsy King, as Fury is affectionately known, resides with his family in a sprawling £1.7m Morecambe mansion.

Fury’s taste for the finer things is evident with a collection of luxury motors, including two Rolls-Royces at £384,000 apiece, alongside a flashy red Ferrari Portofino and a high-speed £200,000 Porsche GT3 RS, yet maintains a nod to modesty with a £20,000 Vauxhall Passat and a Mini Cooper.

Known for flaunting designer gear, from Louis Vuitton to Gianni Versace, Fury doesn’t shy from showing off his swag on Instagram.

Married to his teenage love Paris, the pair tied the knot in 2008. Growing up in caravans and leaving school after primary education, Tyson and Paris maintain deep roots in the traveller community, reflecting the boxing icon’s robust pride in his heritage.

French Open, Coco Gauff Becomes First American Woman Since Serena Williams To Win French Open

Coco Gauff roared back from a set down to capture her first Roland Garros title and become the first American woman in a decade to win the French Open.

No. 2 Gauff overcame a first-set deficit to beat No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4 in windy conditions to become the first American woman since Serena Williams in 2015 to win the title in Paris. At 21, she is also the youngest champion since Serena in 2002.

Gauff became the seventh American woman to win Roland Garros in the Open Era. She won her second major following the 2023 U.S. Open, where she also overcame a one-set deficit to beat Sabalenka. Gauff is the second straight American woman to win a major after Madison Keys also defeated Sabalenka in three sets to win the Australian Open.

“I didn’t think honestly that I could do it,” Gauff said on court. “But I’m gonna quote Tyler the Creator right here. He said ‘If I ever told you I had a doubt inside me, I must be lying.’ I’d like to leave that with you guys. I think I was lying to myself and I definitely could do it. Shout out to Tyler.”

Gauff had previously lost in the 2022 French Open final in straight sets to Iga Swiatek.

Gauff takes home nearly $2.9 million and Sabalenka $1.4 million.

“I’d like to thank my parents,” Gauff said. “You guys have done a lot for me, from washing my clothes to keeping me grounded and giving me the belief that I can do it. You guys probably believe in me more than I do myself. I really appreciate and love you guys. To my brothers at home, you’re the reason I do this. You inspire me more than you know. To all my family at home, thank you.”

“I’d like to thank my team. 3 finals, but I got the most important one. I guess that’s all that matters. You guys have been a joy to be around and you guys are individually truly great people. Pushing me and also making it fun. I know sometimes I’m not the easiest and I can be so serious. But you remind me there’s more to life than tennis. That’s what makes me play better on the court. Thank you individually, to all of you. I appreciate you guys so much.”

In the decisive third set, Sabalenka double-faulted to give Gauff a break for 2-1.

Gauff led 3-1 and had break points for 4-1 but Sabalenka held and then broke for 3-all.

Coco gauff

Gauff roared back and broke at love for 4-3 with a backhand crosscourt winner. Sabalenka sailed a backhand long as Gauff seized a 5-3 lead.

Serving at 5-4, 30-all, Gauff crushed a forehand crosscourt winner to earn match point. But Sabalenka hit the baseline with a forehand that staved it off.

Sabalenka had a break point, but hit a forehand wide.

On the second match point, Sabalenka hit a backhand wide and Gauff felt to her back on the court.

In the aftermath of the match, Sabalenka did not give full credit to Gauff and instead blamed her own play on a day when she made 70 unforced errors, and said “it was the worst final I have ever played.”

“She won the match not because she played incredible, just because I made all those mistakes,” Sabalenka said.

“That hurts,” Sabalenka added. “Especially when you’ve been playing really great tennis during the whole week, when you’ve been playing against a lot of tough opponents, Olympic champion [Qinwen Zheng], Iga and then you go out, and you play really bad.

“Like I think Iga… I think she would go out today and she would get the win. It just hurts. Honestly hurts. I’ve been playing really well, and then in the last match, go out there and perform like I did, that’s hurt.”

“No shade to Iga or anything, but last time I played her I won in straight sets. I don’t think that’s a fair thing to say, because anything can really happen.

“The way Aryna was playing the last few weeks, she was the favourite to win. So I think she was the best person that I could have played in the final.

“Her being No. 1 in the world was the best person to play, so I think I got the hardest matchup just if you go off stats alone.”

Sabalenka’s comments did not go over well with many in the tennis world.

“Ugh… the tennis was not that bad,” Stubbs wrote online. “You made a bazillion unforced errors because you’re playing against the fastest players in the world who is as gutsy as hell and had better composure then u!!”

In a first set that featured eight service breaks, Sabalenka roared out to a 4-1, 40- lead and appeared to be cruising. She won 16 of the first 22 points.

Coco gauff

Sabalenka stuck a forehand volley winner to win the first set in the tiebreak despite committing 32 unforced errors.

In the second set, Gauff raced out to a quick lead, winning 10 straight points to go up 2-0. She broke again for 5-2 and then served it, evening the match at one set apiece with a forehand overhead winner.

Asked how she would respond to losing the match, Sabalenka said: “I already have a flight booked to Mykonos. Alcohol. Sugar. I just need a couple days to completely forget about this crazy world and crazy… if I could swear right now I would.. this crazy thing that happened today. I think everyone understands. I’m just trying to be very polite right now. There is no other word that could describe what just happened today on the court. But yeah… Tequila. Gummy bears. And I don’t know, swimming. Being like a tourist for a couple days.”

£12.3billion: Congratulation Roger Federer joins Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Tiger Woods in sport’s billionaire club on eve of Wimbledon

Roger Federer has become the latest athlete to achieve billionaire status.

The tennis legend has amassed a staggering net worth thanks to his on-court achievements and long-term endorsement deals.

According to Bloomberg, Federer is now worth $1.3billion (£950million) three years on from his retirement.

The 43-year-old won £95.3million in prize money during his trophy-laden career.

Despite winning 20 Grand Slam titles, it is off the court where he has made the majority of his money.

Federer’s net worth is bolstered by a three per cent stake in Swiss shoe brand On.

The company is valued at £12.3billion, making Federer’s share worth £364million on its own.

He also has a string of lucrative deals with brands including Rolex and Lindt.

In achieving billionaire status, Federer joins a growing list of sporting stars.

However, all three have some way to go to match the finances of NBA icon Michael Jordan.

His net worth of $3.5billion (£2.55m) is almost as much as Federer, Woods and James’ combined.

He is also an investor in betting firm DraftKings and co-owns a NASCAR team.

Meanwhile, he sold his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets two years ago, with the deal valuing the NBA franchise at $3billion (£2.2bn).

As for Federer, his achievement comes on the eve of this year’s third Grand Slam at Wimbledon.

He is expected to be present at the tournament, which he won eight times as a player.

Roger Federer

“We will see Novak [Djokovic] in the draw, while Andy [Murray] will probably be at the facilities.”

Wimbledon gets underway on Monday and will run through until July 13.

Eight Titles: Grand Slam final record that Roger Federer took in Wimbledon 2009 that will likely never be broken again

Roger Federer’s name is synonymous with Wimbledon, and with good reason.

Roger Federer : After all, he remains the greatest male champion in the competition’s history, having won eight titles during arguably the most competitive era the sport has ever had.

He not only had to contend with Rafael Nadal, but later Novak Djokovic, who became arguably just as competent on this surface as he was.

However unlikely, there’s still every chance that the legendary Serbian could match his number of titles at the All-England Club before he calls time on his spectacular career.

But, one record that Roger Federer snatched in the 2009 Wimbledon final, during his dramatic win over Andy Roddick, will likely never be beaten.

The record Roger Federer broke in Wimbledon 2009 vs Andy Roddick

Whilst Federer’s quality obviously played a huge part in this achievement, there’s another crucial factor why this record will likely not be broken again.

Roger Federer

And that is because, in 2019, they changed the format of matches which sought to shorten them significantly.

Previously, if a Grand Slam match went to five sets, the fifth would have to get to 12-12 in games before a tiebreak was played.

However, with the change, that became the more widely recognised 6-6 scoreline which commanded a deciding tiebreak.

With that in mind, the fact that Federer hit 50 aces during that 2009 Wimbledon final against Roddick remains a mind-blowing figure, and still to this day the highest number of aces made in any Grand Slam final.

Who did Roger Federer beat in all of his Wimbledon finals?

The very first major that Federer ever won unsurprisingly came at Wimbledon, as he overcame Mark Philippoussis in 2003. Then, the year later he began his All-England dominance over Andy Roddick, who he would finish his career with a 21-3 win/loss ratio.

A third straight Wimbledon came again in 2005, once again beating Roddick, before Rafael Nadal then announced himself as a new problem for Federer to fix.

Although he would cause the Swiss superstar so much heartache, he still managed to beat the Spaniard in both the 2006 and 2007 Wimbledon finals, making it a stunning five titles in a row.

2008 saw Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon, but it was back to winning ways in 2009, with Roddick his victim once again.

There was then a curious three-year gap before his next final, where he broke British hearts by beating Andy Murray in his first Wimbledon final.

This marked his last title here for some time, as Djokovic began to establish his dominance as age caught up with Federer.

He lost the 2014 and 2015 finals to him, and his last-ever Grand Slam final at Wimbledon too in 2019. This was inarguably one of the most crushing matches across his entire career.

But, he fortunately managed to secure that elusive eighth title in 2017, brushing aside Marin Čilić to forge another record that, for now, seems unreachable.

After knockout taunt Boxing star Anthony Joshua issued a warning to American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul

British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua has issued a warning to American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul following a taunt about his previous knockout defeats, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Paul, 28, revealed in a recent interview with The Sun that he and the former two-time heavyweight champion had been exchanging private messages earlier this year, during which he mocked Joshua over his knockout losses. However, the trolling prompted a stern response from the 35-year-old.

According to Paul, the last message he received from Joshua carried a clear and menacing tone.

“He said, ‘I can’t wait to fight. You’re gonna be fighting for your life and you’ll know the feeling that I’ve gone through.’ Or something like that,” Paul told SunSport, admitting it was the last time he heard from Joshua.

The brewing tension has fuelled speculation about a possible future clash between both men, with Paul expressing his desire to face Joshua in front of a hostile British crowd.

“My first fight was in front of an English crowd and it’s rowdy,” Paul said.

“I love walking into the lions’ den and so me versus Anthony Joshua, 100,000 people chanting ‘f*** Jake Paul’ would be pretty fun for me.”

Joshua, who has not fought since suffering a knockout defeat to fellow Brit Daniel Dubois in September, is currently recovering from elbow surgery.

Despite his recent inactivity, he remains a formidable presence in the heavyweight scene.

Paul, meanwhile, continues to blur the lines between entertainment and elite boxing. His controversial exhibition bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson was watched by over 100 million viewers on Netflix.

Paul won the eight-round fight, though it drew widespread criticism due to Tyson’s age.

As he returned to the ring on Sunday, beating former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a dominant points victory, Paul remains focused on climbing the ranks.

“I think it’s back to the drawing board after this, especially depending on what the WBC and WBA rank me after I win,” he said.

“If they rank me in the position where I can go for a world championship, then we’re gonna try and get that done.”

Eddie Hearn: Jake Paul plots talks with Anthony Joshua’s team in New York with YouTube star ‘adamant’ he wants to fight heavyweight

Anthony Joshua: Jake Paul will use his week promoting Katie Taylor’s trilogy bout with Amanda Serrano to also hold talks over a fight with Anthony Joshua.

Serrano – promoted by Paul – takes on Irish icon Taylor on July 11 at Madison Square Garden following her two controversial losses.

Taylor is also represented by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing – Joshua’s long-time promoters.

So when Paul & Co stage the historic trilogy fight – talks with Hearn over a shock AJ bout will also be on the agenda.

Paul’s promotional partner Nakisa Bidarian said: “Anthony Joshua, I think that’s the main one that we talked a lot about…

“He’s adamant that he wants to make that fight happen at the end of 2026 and we’re gonna meet with Matchroom while we’re in New York to promote the greatest trilogy in the history of boxing.”

Paul had his first heavyweight fight in November when Mike Tyson controversially came out of retirement aged 58.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer won over eight, revised two-minute rounds but admitted the TWO STONE jump from cruiserweight was gruelling.

Paul, 28, returned to the 14st 4lb stone limit of 200lb in victory over former middleweight world champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39.

“But you know, look at Deontay Wilder, he was beating these guys weighing 215lb.

“Granted he’s like 6’6 or something but anything is possible and I like the challenge.

“People’s criticism is fight someone in their prime, who’s a beast. I think people just want to see me lose! That’s really what the message is behind it all.

“He wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.”

Paul’s victory California against Chavez – who won the 160lb title 14 years ago – looks set to land him a world ranking in the WBC and WBA.

“But people hold the Tommy Fury thing against me, but what now? I just beat a former world champion and I’m coming to avenge that loss as well with Tommy.”

No Doubt One Man ‘Could Be In A Lot Of Trouble’ In Canelo vs Terence Crawford Fight – Miguel Cotto Says

The highly anticipated clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is now just months away.

It was announced earlier in the month that the modern greats will do battle on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Terence Crawford is set to make the jump up to super-middleweight for the first time in his career as he bids to dethrone the Mexican superstar of his undisputed championship at 168lbs.

The 37-year-old from Omaha has spent his recent years campaigning at welterweight, where he won the undisputed championship and became the first fighter to accomplish this feat within the ‘four belt era’ when he defeated Errol Spence Jr in July 2023.

Terence Crawford

Canelo wrote his name into boxing history once again on May 2 when he defeated former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull in Riyadh, becoming the first two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion.

In an interview with Seconds Out, retired Puerto Rican great and former opponent of Canelo, Miguel Cotto, shared his thoughts on his former rivals upcoming battle with Crawford.

“The set of skills that Crawford has can cause a lot of trouble for Canelo.”

Canelo outpointed Cotto in November of 2015 to capture the vacant WBC world middleweight title, although the Puerto Rican icon had entered the final years of his outstanding professional career.

The Mexican had previously lost to Floyd Mayweather and has been bested by Dmitry Bivol since, marking his only two losses in an incredible 67 fights. He has never been beaten in the super-middleweight class, but Crawford is adamant that will change this year.

“Trust Me I Know A Secret” I Have No Doubt Who Wins Canelo vs Terence Crawford – Tim Bradley

Terence Crawford: Two-weight world champion Tim Bradley has predicted the upcoming mega-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

It was announced earlier this month that the modern greats will do battle on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo and Crawford faced-off for the first time in Riyadh on May 3, just moments after the Mexican superstar defeated former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull to capture the undisputed championship at 168lbs for the second time. They have since met on a press tour, with the friendly atmosphere slowly being replaced by trash talk and competitive spirit.

It will be a test of the highest magnitude for ‘Bud’ Crawford, who will make the jump up in two weight classes from his last outing.

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Bradley didn’t hesitate to back Crawford to get the job done against Canelo, revealing he knows a ‘secret’ that plays into the hands of the 37-year-old from Omaha. Unfortunately for fans, he was not forthcoming with the details.

“If Canelo couldn’t knock out [Jermell] Charlo, are you really thinking he’s gonna knock out Crawford? I would pick Terence Crawford to beat a Canelo Alvarez even at 168, everybody can call me crazy and whatever you wanna say, I get it, y’all didn’t believe me when I told you about [Errol] Spence but trust me, Crawford will figure out a way.

“I know a secret y’all don’t know and I ain’t gonna tell you why I would pick Terence Crawford but it’s part of the secret is the reason why I’m picking him to win the fight.”

Victory for Crawford would see the unbeaten American write his name into boxing history once again, as he will become the first fighter in the history of male boxing to win an undisputed championship in three divisions.
