Charlie Woods Joins Elite at Junior PGA Championship-Here’s When and Who He’s Playing With

Charlie Woods is in the field this week for the PGA of America’s premier annual junior golf event.

Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, will play the 49th Boys & Girls Junior PGA Championships from July 29-Aug. 1 at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Junior PGA Championships are comprised of two 72-hole stroke play tournaments for boys and girls junior amateur golfers. This year’s boys and girls tournaments will each feature 156 golfers, respectively.

First round play is scheduled for Tuesday with the boys tournament on Purdue University’s Ackerman-Allen Course and the girls tournament on the Kampen-Cosler Course.

The tournament will cut to the top 60 plus ties after Wednesday’s second round. It will cut down to the top 30 plus ties after the third round on Thursday.

The Junior PGA Championships were first hosted in 1976 and have a long history in Palm Beach County.

From 1980-2000, the event was hosted PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens in all but two years. In 1990, Tiger Woods finished runner-up to Fort Lauderdale’s Chris Couch at PGA National.

Previous tournament winners include major champions Trevor Immelman and David Toms.

Woods will begin the first round at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday on hole No. 10 of Purdue’s Ackerman-Allen Course.

He is paired with New York’s Jackson Ormond and fellow Floridian Tyler Mawhinney.

Woods will begin the second round at 7:41 a.m. Wednesday on hole No. 1 of Purdue’s Kampen-Cosler Course.

Tiger Woods leans on Children Sam and Charlie for support as he announces family heartbreak — statement

Tiger Woods took to social media to announce the passing of his mother Kultida Woods at the age of 78.

The pro golfer, 49, shared a statement on behalf of his family, including his two children with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, with news of her passing on the morning of Tuesday, February 4

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” he wrote. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable.”

“She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.”

Tiger also mentioned how close she was to her two grandchildren, his daughter Sam, 17, and his son Charlie, 15. “She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family.”

“Love you Mom,” he tenderly concluded, capping off his tribute with a photograph of her. Tiger is the only child of the late U.S. Army infantry officer Earl and Kultida Woods, with the latter affectionately known as “Tida.”

The celebrated athlete was extremely close with his mother, who made several appearances with him over the years at various events and tournaments, and was very supportive of his career.

Charlie Woods Turns Down Title Defense for Shot at Bigger Spotlight

Tiger Woods’ son, Charlie, had little time to recover from the bruises he sustained at the US Junior Amateur. Just a week after missing the cut in Dallas, the younger Woods is back in another top-rated event.

Curiously, Charlie Woods should have been defending his title in the South Florida PGA Junior Cup, the 2025 edition of which starts this Monday. However, the youngest son of the 18-time major winner will not be present at that tournament.

The reason for his absence? Charlie is in Indiana to play in the Junior PGA Championship, beginning Tuesday at the Purdue University golf facilities. This is one of the premier junior golf events in the country, featuring tournaments for boys and girls simultaneously.

This will be Charlie’s first appearance in this event, where his legendary father finished runner-up once during his illustrious junior golf career.

The boys’ Junior PGA Championship tournament will be played on Purdue University’s Ackerman-Allen Course. The field features 156 players, including top-ranked golfers Miles Russell and Luke Colton. Recent US Junior Amateur champion Hamilton Coleman will not be present.

The tournament will have a stroke-play format, similar to most professional events. The top 60 players plus ties will make the cut after 36 holes and play the final two rounds to determine the champion.

A year ago, Baylor Larrabee won the event at the Congressional Country Club. He is currently on the UCLA golf team and cannot defend his title at Purdue because he is no longer age eligible.

The girls’ event will be played simultaneously on Purdue University’s Kampen-Cosler Course. It will feature the same characteristics as the boys’ tournament, and the No. 2-ranked player in the country, Asterisk Talley, leads the field.

Charlie missed the cut in the US Junior Amateur after carding a terrible first-round 81 at Brook Hollow Golf Club. A day later, he improved significantly and carded a 74 at Trinity Forest, but his fate was already sealed, and he couldn’t advance beyond the stroke-play phase.

Charlie Woods took home the Team TaylorMade Invitational title Wednesday at the Streamsong Resort Black Course in Bowling Green, Florida, for his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) victory.

Woods began the day tied at 9-under and finished with a final-round 66 to come out on top of a 71-player field that included four of the top five players in the AJGA.

Woods’ final round featured eight birdies and two bogeys, and he closed with four straight pars. He won the event by three strokes ahead of fifth-ranked Luke Colton, Willie Gordon and Phillip Dunham.

Woods opened the tournament with a first-round 70 but followed with a 65 Tuesday. He was competing in just his fifth AJGA event, and his previous best finish was a tie for 25th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March.

Woods already has several wins on his resume, with his first coming in the 14-15-year-old category at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship in June 2023. Later that year, he won the Last Chance Regional golf tournament.

Charlie Woods

Last summer, he qualified to compete at the U.S. Junior Amateur but failed to make the cut. He recorded his first-ever hole-in-one at the PNC Championship, where he teamed up with his father.

His dad has 82 professional wins, tied with Sam Snead for the most ever. Fifteen of those victories have come in majors, and his last major win was the unforgettable 2019 Masters.

Tiger, who has not won a tournament since the 2019 Zozo, is recovering from a ruptured Achilles he sustained just weeks before this year’s Masters. In 18 official events since finishing tied for ninth at the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open, his best finish was a tie for 37th at the 2020 PGA Championship.

“What’s Next for Charlie Woods? Social Media Spirals After Alarming Golf Setback”

Charlie Woods has been making headlines for the last few days, after missing a cut at one of the prestigious junior tournaments.

Every time he plays, he’s under the public’s watchful eye, and the expectations week after week are really high.

How to deal with such pressure?

Being a 16-year-old boy implies a lack of experience and weaker coping mechanisms, but most believe that Tiger Woods can be the one to guide him on the right path.

The 16-year-old has had some lackluster games this year, but also some superior ones, with it being difficult to predict how much potential Charlie really has.

After a recent setback in a junior tournament, the public reacted with mixed feelings about the young golfer’s future.

Reactions

Social media is full of comments about Charlie Woods, and one golf fan reminded everyone that the most important thing for Charlie is simply to enjoy playing the game.

Charlie Woods

“If he makes it or not it’s ok. It’s great to see him playing a game he loves. And something him and his dad can do for a long time to come. Best game in the world..“- one of the fans wrote.

One of the fans was also a voice of reason, saying that it’s hard to deal with the pressure when you have a father who is a golf icon.

“He’s gotten better, but as most kids that have a father who was the greatest of all time….gonna be a tough road..”- he wrote.

Some reminded of athletes from history who had parents who dominated in a certain sport.

Tiger has set the bar so high that few can even come close.

He is going to be a okay golfer. usually kids wants to be like their parent and they are never good as their parent.  he has to much pressure on him..”

kai Trump

There are those who believe that a 16-year-old does not have the quality needed to be nearly as dominant as his father.

Maybe he just isn’t that good yet but you guys are acting like he’s about to win a major..”- one of the fans wrote.

Either way, time will tell.

It seems unnecessary to create pressure on a boy who has yet to show his qualities

“Should We Even Be Surprised? Woods Steals the Spotlight from Rory McIlroy and Others with Flawless Happy Gilmore-Style Drive”

If any golfer could produce the perfect Happy Gilmore swing, you’d put good money on it being Tiger Woods.

The sequel to the 1996 Adam Sandler sports comedy is finally on our screens, after Netflix released the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2 on Friday.

With Sandler reprising his role as the titular unprofessional hockey player-turned-golf star, fans will once again get to enjoy all of his antics that made the first film an all-time classic.

This includes the iconic ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing, which has since become a shot many have set their sights on mastering.

The famous drive consists of a run-up to the tee, before hammering the ball as hard as possible.

It is a shot that plenty have tried and failed to recreate, including some of golf’s biggest stars.

Plenty, but not sporting great Woods, who had no such trouble when he lined up a ridiculous effort back in 2021.

In a special challenge put together by TaylorMade to mark the film’s 25th anniversary, some of the golf’s biggest names were tasked with attempting the ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing.

“Controversy Ignites As Kai Trump Called ‘DEI Golfer’ Following Entry into Prestigious Event with Charlie Woods”

Donald Trump’s granddaughter Kai has been accused of being a ‘DEI golfer’, after she’s set to take on Tiger Wood’s son.

The president is a keen golfer, having opened his own course – Trump International Golf Club – in 2012.

The club is set in Palm Beach, Florida, and is set to have cost $45 million to construct.

And it seems Trump’s love for golf has been passed down two generations, as his granddaughter Kai is also keen on the sport.

The 17-year-old recently committed to play women’s golf at the University of Miami, and already runs a highly successful YouTube channel with over a million subscribers, documenting her journey.

It was announced earlier this week that Kai is set to take on Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods, in a tournament for the nation’s top junior golfers.

Tiger Woods is a close family friend of the Trumps, as the two could be seen playing a round of golf together just before the president’s inauguration in January.

Kai and Charlie will be among 60 expected competitors in the invite-only competition.

But many people on social media are accusing the 17-year-old of being a ‘DEI golfer’.

DEI (diversity, equality, and inclusion) programs were introduced by the Biden Administration, to create fairer opportunities for marginalised communities within America.

However, Trump previously described it as an ‘illegal and immoral discrimination program’, which is a ‘public waste’.

After being sworn into office in January, the president has promised to defund DEI programs.

Kai Trump was brought into the conversation, as one person online said: “She’s a DEI golfer.”

Another agreed, adding: “Kai Trump is definitely DEI, she’s only there because of his name.”

A third wrote: “DEI picked to be alongside an actual earned position.”

Charlie Woods

But others in the comments defended the influencer, writing: “Someone has absolutely no idea what DEI is.”

Another said: “Awesome! Both of these young adults are great talented golfers.”

Other people described Kai as a ‘nepo baby’, accusing her of only competing in the tournament because of her last name.

One said: “I guess Nepo Golfers is a thing now.”

Another agreed, adding: “Grandpa owns the fields.”

Kai made herself known during Trump’s election campaign, and even gave a speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

“I’m speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see,” she said.

Bold Prediction Sends Shockwaves Through Golf World As Tiger Woods’ Former Coach Breaks Silence on Charlie Woods

Charlie Woods made headlines a few days ago for his not-so-great performance at one of the junior tournaments. However, the 16-year-old does not stop to attract media attention, no matter how dominant he is or not.

From the earliest days, the media looked for similarities between Charlie and Tiger, although it was too early to make any judgments. It seems that it is still too early to draw a parallel between the icon of golf and his son, who has yet to start treading paths filled with thorns.

Hank Haney reacts: That’s a great golf swing

In his tweet, Haney had words of praise for Charlie’s swing, writing: “That’s a great golf swing”, while sharing a video of the young golfer.

Words like these can be a strong motive for a boy who is under constant pressure and public expectations.

Charlie is aware that he will have a much tougher job, as his father’s dominance gives fans the right to expect his dominance in the future.

Tiger Woods has emphasized several times that there is no need to put pressure on a boy who has yet to prove himself, admitting that it doesn’t matter to him whether Charlie follows his path or has other passions.

It seems the 16-year-old has the same hunger for golf as his father, and having such an important mentor on his path to stardom could be a double-edged sword.

Tiger is currently recovering from surgery a few months ago, with his return date still a mystery.

The future of golf looks interesting, and there’s no doubt we’ll be keeping a close eye on the young golfer.

Tiger Woods’ Look Alike daughter set to compete in a Florida track and field meet for Benjamin High School.

Sam Woods, a senior, will compete for the Benjamin School in the 100 and 400 hurdles, as well as a possible participation in the girls 4×400 and 4×800 relays. She is seeded 13th and 18th, respectively, in her two hurdles events. One of the team relays is seeded 4th

Tiger Woods Hits Stunning New Low as Justin Leonard Surpasses the Legendary Champion in Unexpected Twist

For the first time in nearly three decades, Tiger Woods has been surpassed in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) by a familiar name in Justin Leonard, as the 15-time major winner slips below the Top 1500.

This quiet but telling moment arrives as Woods continues to battle physical setbacks and limited tournament appearances, further clouding the outlook of a once-promising comeback as the retirement question continues to loom large.

He now sits at a career-low 1,551st in the OWGR-an unimaginable position for the man who once held the top spot for a record 683 weeks, including a stretch of 281 consecutive weeks.

Meanwhile Leonard‘s performance comes off the back of his T59 at the British Open, where he made his first cut in a major since 2014 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and fired rounds of 70-74-70-73 to finish tied for 59th at 2-over par.

“To come over at my experience, and age, and make the cut is pretty special,” Leonard said after the event. “Sometimes you can almost throw the yardage book out the window.”

The 53-year-old’s resurgence sparked an enormous leap in the rankings, climbing from 4,689th to 1,436th, and earning him $41,550 in prize money. It also broke a 28-year trend in which he had trailed Tiger in the world standings.

Charlie Woods

Leonard‘s return to relevance is a reminder of his once-formidable standing in the game. Back in 1997, he captured the Open Championship at Royal Troon with a brilliant final-round 65, claiming victory by three strokes over Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik.

That Sunday, he recorded six birdies on the front nine alone during his final round, asserting his name among golf’s elite. Now, decades later, his strong play at Portrush marks a full-circle moment.

The current torchbearer of dominance in men’s golf, Scottie Scheffler, continues to draw inevitable comparisons to Woods. However, Scheffler downplayed such talk after his latest win at Royal Portrush:

“I think these comparisons are a bit exaggerated,” Scheffler said. “Tiger has won 15 majors, I’m stuck at four.

“I’ve only come a quarter of the way there. He was an inspiration to me, a special talent.
