Jim Nantz Demands Major Overhaul at Tiger Woods’ Beloved ‘All-Time Favorite Golf Course’ — Says It’s Long Overdue

Golf has this funny way of getting under your skin. The sport creates these magical moments that stick with you long after you’ve left the course. But here’s the thing—some venues just hit different, and when the game’s greatest voices start talking about them, you can hear the reverence in every word.

While millions of golf fans around the world recognize St. Andrews as the “Home of Golf,” legendary broadcaster Jim Nantz believes that traditional moniker falls short of capturing its true essence. Recently, the CBS Sports icon shared a more profound perspective on the Scottish links that Tiger Woods has called his “favorite course in the world.” Furthermore, Nantz declares, “I call it the final resting place of Golf…Because It’s Heaven.”

This isn’t merely flowery language from a broadcaster known for his eloquent commentary. Instead, Nantz’s words reflect decades of witnessing golf’s most memorable moments unfold on the Old Course. His 40-year broadcasting career has included guest commentary work for the BBC during the Open Championships at St. Andrews. Additionally, his unique insight into the venue’s mystique comes from calling some of golf’s most dramatic finishes there.

Nantz’s heavenly characterization carries particular weight when considering Tiger’s deep connection to the course. Moreover, Woods’ two Open Championship victories there in 2000 and 2005 cemented his emotional bond with the ancient links. However, it was his tearful farewell walk across the Swilcan Bridge during the 2022 Open Championship that truly embodied the spiritual connection Nantz describes.

This reimagining of St. Andrews as golf’s ultimate destination offers something more profound than traditional descriptions. Consequently, Nantz’s perspective provides a fresh lens through which to view golf’s most revered venue. Similarly, Nantz continues to prepare for his next decade of tournament coverage with the same reverence for golf’s most prestigious venues.

How Tiger Woods and golf legends have shaped St Andrews’ identity through the decades

The evolution of St. Andrews’ various nicknames reveals how different eras have attempted to capture its essence. Originally, locals referred to it simply as the “golfing grounds” until the New Course opened in 1895. Then, the older layout became known as the “Old Course.” Meanwhile, the “Home of Golf” designation became widely accepted much earlier than most realize.

Back in 1691, St. Andrews was already called the “metropolis of golfing.” Later, in 1754, the Society of St Andrews Golfers referred to it as the “Alma Mater of Golf,” meaning “Mother of Golf.” Eventually, in 1834, when King William IV recognized St. Andrews as “Royal and Ancient,” the course gradually became known as the “Home of Golf.” Golf legends throughout history have offered their own poetic descriptions that mirror Nantz’s sentiment. Bobby Jones once declared, “If I had ever been set down in any one place and told I was to play there, and nowhere else, for the rest of my life, I should have chosen the Old Course at St. Andrews.”

Perhaps Nantz’s heavenly perspective represents the next evolution in how we understand St. Andrews’ true significance. While “Home of Golf” describes its historical importance, “final resting place” suggests something transcendent that continues drawing players like Tiger back to Scotland’s ancient links.

Controversial Claim, Expert Shocks Golf World, Says Scottie Scheffler Outperforms Tiger Woods in This — ‘Not Even Tiger Deserved That Kind of Praise’

Scheffler won the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, bringing him a US Open away from winning the career grand slam, as Rory McIlroy did at Augusta.

He took the outright lead on Saturday and never looked back. There was a sense of inevitability about Scheffler lifting the Claret Jug come Sunday, even on Saturday afternoon.

Scheffler is inevitable, and Tiger Woods wasn’t, says Rob Lee

When Scheffler set his record for a major round on Saturday, entering Sunday with the lead, many thought it was over. They were correct.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Rob Lee said that Woods was not considered a sure bet for the win when leading like Scheffler is.

He said, “It was over on Saturday. Over. We wouldn’t even say that about Woods. Tiger was an amazing player, but I never felt like he was inevitable.”

He explained, “The Scheffler inevitability is because he never puts his ball in a position that Tiger would put his ball. Tiger could take a rogue double.”

Tiger Woods is the greatest of all time, according to most, including his great rival Phil Mickelson, but Lee said Scheffler’s cool temperament prevents him from giving up leads.

Tiger woods

He said, “I don’t think we’ll ever see the complete package like Tiger ever again. The fist pump, you could see how into it he was. The full Tiger package when he was in full flow was spellbinding, and the world had to watch.

“Scottie is a cold cat. He just goes around there, he’s turning up to do his job and his job is to beat the field, he goes away, spends time with his family and you’ll see him the next time doing exactly the same thing.”

Scheffler reflected on the importance of golf prior to the tournament, explaining that golf is what he does, not who he is. His healthy relationship with the sport, which is rare among the all-time greats, allows him to remain calm in high-pressure situations.

There was only one winner at Royal Portrush because of that.

Scottie Scheffler can win the career grand slam on his 30th birthday

A win at the 2026 US Open will complete the career grand slam for Scheffler, and that too seems inevitable. That day at Shinnecock Hills will be extra special for the world number one

The tournament will conclude on Scheffler’s 30th birthday on June 21st. It seems written in the stars for him to become the seventh player in the sport’s history to win all four major titles.

The celebration of McIlroy’s achievement at the Masters this year perhaps dilutes the gravity of what Scheffler is on the verge of achieving. We had to wait two decades between Woods and McIlroy’s completed slams, so the fact that we are close to another is ridiculous

The Golf Icon Tiger Woods Felt Shocked  as Son Charlie Woods Faces a Disastrous Start at Prestigious Tournament

Tiger Woods has been spotted on the grounds of Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, as his son, Charlie, risks missing the cut at the prestigious U.S. Junior Amateur following a nightmare first round.

The golf icon, who is dating Vanessa Trump, has failed to grace the greens since missing the cut himself at last summer’s Open Championship in Scotland as he continues to battle various setbacks, most recently falling foul to a ruptured tendon in his left Achilles that effectively ruled him out for the entirety of the 2025 PGA Tour.

Instead, he has been making the most of his time by supporting his 16-year-old son, who has already this year won the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May and placed sixth in a field of 122 boys golfers at last month’s Nicklaus Junior Championship.

A successful playoff in Florida in June also secured his place at this week’s U.S Junior Amateur Championship, yet things haven’t quite gone to plan for Woods Jr., who risks repeating history from last year.

In the same tournament 12 months ago, the teenager finished 22-over-par in T240, and is at risk of heading that way once more after carding an 11-over 81 in Monday’s opening round to leave him nine adrift of the position he needs to progress in T242.

Charlie Woods

He now faces an almighty uphill battle to reach the knockout stages of an event his dad famously won three times in succession between 1991 and 1993, despite finding some consistency towards the end of his round.

Beginning on the 10th, Charlie made successive bogeys on his opening two holes before eventually securing his first par of the day at the 484-yard par 4 12th.

However, a costly double bogey on his fourth of the day, the par 4 13th, then followed, although things would continue to get worse before they got better when he recorded his third bogey of the day at the 615-yard par 5 15th.

After his opening six holes, Woods found himself five over for his round, yet further turmoil would follow with successive double bogeys at the par-3 16th and par-4 17th.

It wasn’t until the 432-yard par-4 18th when things finally started to turn in Charlie’s favor, with the youngster securing his first birdie of the tournament on his ninth hole of the day.

It still left the aspiring golfer eight over for the round and languishing in T228 of the 264-player field as he made the turn, 10 adrift of the position he would need to continue after Tuesday’s second round.

Charlie Woods

As he began the back nine, Charlie could only record another bogey on his 10th of the day before the fourth double bogey of his round came on his 12th.

Eventually, he managed to find some consistency with four successive pars between his 13th and 16th of the day, yet he could still only muster his fifth bogey of the day and his second birdie at the 18th to close out his round.

Trump: “Inside the Shocking Reason Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump Say ‘Marriage Isn’t Worth It’ — Source Reveals What’s Really Going On”

Behind Closed Doors: Why Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump Are Quietly Slamming the Brakes on Marriage Rumors

Speculation has been swirling about Tiger Woods and Vanessa Trump’s whirlwind romance, with whispers of an engagement heating up fast. But now, insiders close to the golf icon are throwing cold water on the fire — and their reasoning might surprise you.

According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, both Woods and Vanessa have compelling reasons to steer clear of the altar — at least for now.
“Cynically, why should she get married? There’s no point — it would only complicate her alimony deal with Donald [Trump Jr.],” the insider revealed. “And Tiger? He paid a fortune in his divorce from Elin [Nordegren] — there’s no rush to go through that again.”

Vanessa, a mother of five with Donald Jr. — Kai, 18, Donald III, 16, Tristan, 13, Spencer, 12, and Chloe, 11 — reportedly walked away from their split with a quiet but considerable settlement. Meanwhile, Woods famously paid a staggering $100 million in his 2010 divorce.

“Tiger isn’t the kind of man who leaps into marriage,” the source continued. “He’s had long relationships before and never tied the knot again. It would take something extraordinary to make him a groom once more.”

Charlie Woods

Still, insiders say the relationship is heating up fast. On July 4, Page Six reported Vanessa’s inner circle was buzzing about how “wedding bells serious” things had become. While no engagement has been confirmed, Vanessa is said to be absolutely smitten.
“She’s glowing,” one source said. “She’s found true happiness for the first time in her life.”

Despite the buzz, the pair remains intensely private, finding common ground through their children’s shared passion for golf. Woods’ teenage son, Charlie, is already drawing comparisons to his legendary father, while Vanessa’s daughter, Kai, is set to join the University of Miami’s golf program in 2026.

Though neither has officially commented on their relationship, Woods raised eyebrows in March when he posted an unusually tender message on Instagram:
“Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side,” he wrote alongside two affectionate photos with Vanessa. “We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time, we would appreciate privacy to all those close to our hearts.”

So, are wedding bells truly on the horizon — or is this high-profile romance destined to remain just shy of the aisle? For now, Woods and Vanessa seem content keeping the world guessing.

Tension Erupts as Tiger Woods Confronts Open Security After Being Stopped: “Who Are You to Block Me?”

Tiger Woods once had a memorable encounter with a security guard who seemingly didn’t recognise him and denied him entry to The Open Championship at the height of his career. The 15-time major winner, 49, has fond memories of the tournament, having clinched the Claret Jug three times, with his most recent victory in 2006.

Woods is currently not competing at The Open this week at Portrush. He is still recovering from an Achilles rupture sustained back in March earlier this year

He’s faced a challenging few years with multiple surgeries on his back and lower limbs, which have limited his participation to a part-time schedule on the PGA Tour where he’s focused on competing in the majors.

His last outing at a sanctioned Tour event was at The Open last year, where despite the excitement surrounding his return, he missed the cut – his third consecutive miss at a major that year.

Despite his recent difficulties at the season’s final major, Woods is still one of the most accomplished players in its history.

Yet, his prowess on the green couldn’t save him from an uncomfortable moment with a security guard at Royal Troon, reports the Mirror US.

PGA golfer Michael Kim shared a story from a past edition of the Open Championship, during Woods’ prime, about an incident in Scotland. “At the Open Championship, players get a clip as credentials to get you into the locker room and everywhere else,” Kim said last year on X.

“Mid 2000s, Tiger forgot his clip one day, and he was walking into the locker room when the security person stopped him asking for his credentials.

After Shocking Nike Split, Tiger Woods Unveils Mysterious New Lifestyle Brand and Clothing Line

Tiger Woods has unveiled his new lifestyle brand and clothing line, called Sun Day Red, in the wake of his high-profile split with longtime sponsor Nike.

At a news conference Monday evening in Los Angeles, Woods said the new offering, in collaboration with TaylorMade Golf, marks a new milestone in his career.

“It’s the right time in my life,” said Woods, 48. “It’s transitional. I’m no longer a kid anymore.”

The motif for Sun Day Red — a reference to Woods’ penchant for wearing red on the final day of weekend match play — will incorporate Woods’ 15 major championships into the logo of a tiger stretched. (Woods said he would update the logo if he were to win another a major.)

Woods and Nike announced last month they were ending their 27-year partnership, leaving Nike’s future in golf uncertain.

Woods, meanwhile, remains one of the sport’s biggest draws and influencers as he continues to chase Jack Nicklaus’ record 18 majors and six Masters wins. Nicklaus won his final major and last Green Jacket at age 46; Woods most recently won a major at the 2019 Masters.

Experts say the Sun Day Red line should attract interest from consumers as long as Woods continues to make regular appearances. While a slew of injuries have reduced the number of tournaments Woods now competes in, he is set to tee off in this week’s Genesis Invitational Tournament in Los Angeles.

“Michael Jordan is still Michael Jordan, and Air Jordans still do very well,” said Eric Smallwood, president of Apex Marketing Group, invoking the basketball Hall of Famer for comparison.

Woods’ deal with Nike was worth an estimated $660 million over its three-decade lifespan.

Privately held TaylorMade’s other current or former No. 1 golf endorsers include Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Scottie Scheffler.

Tiger Woods Reveals the One Habit of Son Charlie That He Just Can’t Stand – And It Might Surprise You!

Golf legend Tiger Woods might be full of admiration for his son Charlie Woods but there is one thing that irks him – Charlie’s constant cell phone use.

The 15-time major champion was seen in good spirits on Friday as he warmed up on the range alongside his young cub.

Charlie drew a hilarious reaction out of his father, who labelled his final shot in practice as “f***ing nasty”.

Tiger and Charlie competed in the Pro-Am and then attended a private party for all the entrants competing this week.

John Daly posted a photo of himself, his son and the Woods’ together last night (above).

It has been confirmed that Woods’ daughter Samantha Woods will be caddying for Dad this weekend.

Speaking to the media ahead of the 36-hole PNC Championship this weekend, Woods had nothing but glowing praise for his son.

The Golf Icon Delivered an Unexpected Answer When Questioned About His Son’s Progress on the Course

In the world of golf, very few names carry the same weight as Tiger Woods. A living legend, Woods has not only redefined the sport but inspired an entire generation of players. So naturally, when his son, Charlie Woods, began appearing on the scene—swinging clubs with technique and confidence far beyond his years—the sports world took notice. Comparisons were drawn, expectations mounted, and questions began to surface: Could Charlie follow in his father’s footsteps?

But during a recent interview, the elder Woods delivered an answer that no one quite expected.

When asked about his son’s development and whether he believed Charlie was on track to become a professional golfer, Tiger paused for a moment. His response was calm, heartfelt, and surprisingly grounded.

“I’m proud of him, but he’s not out here to fill my shoes,” Woods said. “He’s writing his own story—and golf is just one chapter of it.”

This candid statement struck a different tone from the usual proud-parent narrative often heard in the sports world. Coming from someone whose every swing has been scrutinized, analyzed, and idolized, Tiger’s emphasis on independence over legacy was refreshingly human.

A Different Kind of Fairway

In recent years, Charlie Woods has wowed audiences with his smooth swing and undeniable poise, especially during appearances at the PNC Championship alongside his father. The chemistry between them has charmed fans—Charlie, mirroring his father’s mannerisms, stride, and even club twirls. But Tiger has been cautious about the pressure his son might face growing up in his towering shadow.

“He’s got the passion,” Tiger noted, “but he also has a life outside of golf. I want him to enjoy that too.”

It’s clear Tiger isn’t trying to mold Charlie into a carbon copy. In fact, the golf icon’s unexpected response highlights a deeper philosophy: success isn’t just about trophies, but about finding fulfillment on one’s own terms.

Living Under the Spotlight

Being the child of a sports superstar comes with its fair share of challenges. Every round Charlie plays is watched with a mixture of awe and intense scrutiny. Media outlets buzz with commentary, YouTube videos rack up millions of views dissecting his form, and the public often labels him as “the next Tiger” before he’s even entered adulthood.

Yet Tiger Woods remains adamant that Charlie’s journey be his own. “We talk more about school, life, and character than scorecards,” he said in the same interview. “The world will always be watching, but I want him to look in the mirror and be proud of who he is—on or off the course.”

From Father to Mentor

It’s clear the bond between father and son goes far beyond fairways and putting greens. Tiger, who once pushed himself relentlessly to achieve greatness, now serves as a mentor who prioritizes joy, growth, and balance. He knows firsthand the cost of fame, the pitfalls of pressure, and the loneliness that sometimes accompanies greatness.

“Tiger Woods’ Daughter Opened Up with a Heartfelt Reason for Turning Away from Golf”

Tiger Woods, widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers ever, has a daughter, Sam, who shows no interest in following in her father’s golfing footsteps.

The 49-year-old golf icon’s son, Charlie, hasn’t yet demonstrated the same level of consistency that catapulted his father to legendary status. However, after a long hiatus, Charlie clinched a decisive victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, hinting that he might be on track to uphold the family legacy. However, he missed out on the U.S. Open.

While Charlie is making strides on the golf course, Sam has chosen to pursue soccer. According to Woods himself, Sam isn’t keen on taking up golf like her father and brother due to the sport’s “negative connotation.”

Woods offered a frank explanation for why Sam doesn’t share his and Charlie’s passion for golf. “She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time… when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her,” the 49-year-old revealed last year.

“I had to pack, and I had to leave and I was gone for weeks and there was a negative connotation to it. So we developed our own relationship, our own rapport that’s outside of golf, that we do things that don’t involve golf. Meanwhile, my son and I, we do everything golf-related. It’s very different.”

Woods confessed back in 2018 that he’s perfectly fine with his kids not pursuing golf, as long as they stay active. He revealed that his two children were into soccer at the time, a sport that Sam continues to play.

“They’re keen into soccer,” he stated. “If they want to play golf, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s fine, too. As long as they have a good time playing sports.

“I find that a lot of fun now, to be able to physically get out and pass the ball around with them. I get such a big kick out of watching them compete and play. It’s so much fun to see how happy and passionate they are about soccer.”

Charlie later decided to quit soccer and concentrate solely on golf with his father’s guidance, a decision that has proven fruitful recently.

During his victory, Charlie confessed that he was solely focused on the game and didn’t pay attention to anything else. “I didn’t look at the leaderboard once today,” he shared.

“On the fairway after hitting the green on 18, he’s [Woods’ caddie] like, ‘You make par here, you’re going to be fine.’He added: “Being able to say to myself that I won an absolutely amazing event and to say I performed under some high-pressure situations is just huge going forward.

‘You’re Just a Mere Golfer’ – Tiger Woods Infuriated His Friend Charles Barkley by Coldly Cutting Him Off”

If you’re going to end your friendship with Charles Barkley, you’d better not do it by ghosting him.

Unfortunately, that’s how golf icon Tiger Woods went about defriending the basketball great and it left Barkley irate.

Once upon a time, Barkley and Woods shared a remarkably close bond.

Speaking to ESPN in 2011, Barkley revealed he and Woods would speak ‘once a week for 15 years’, such was their friendship.

But everything changed in 2009 when Woods’ life turned upside down.

Woods crashed his Cadillac in November just days after the first report of his infidelity emerged.

In the days after the crash, over a dozen women had come forward with claims they had an affair with Woods in various media outlets.

From that moment on, Woods no longer spoke to Barkley.

A perception soon emerged Barkley had become a bad influence on Woods, along with fellow basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Yet it all caught Barkley, an 11-time NBA All-Star, by surprise.

“It was interesting sitting back and listening and hearing me and Michael corrupted him, we knew none of this stuff was going in,” Barkley said.

However, Barkley’s tune changed in the passing years as Woods’ end of the phone remained cold.

And not in a positive way.

“I could understand if he was trying to get back with his wife at the time and she said, ‘Hey, get rid of all your old friends,’ and he called and said, ‘This is the situation,'” Barkley told Andscape in 2017.

“I would’ve understood that.

“But I just wish he would have been man enough to call and say that. To just disappear totally was disappointing.”

A year later, Barkley and Woods were back talking, even if it was in an enforced setting as the 15-time major winner made a guest appearance on Inside the NBA in November 2018.

Barkley poked fun at Woods’ receding hairline and asked if he’d decided or was thinking about cutting his losses and shaving his head.

“No, I’m still combing forward,” Woods replied, sparking plenty of laughter from the entire panel.

“I’m holding on for dear life as long as I possibly can.”

Woods and Barkley had another public interaction during the May 2020 edition of The Match.

Barkley served as a commentator for the event while Woods teamed up with legendary NFL quarterback Peyton Manning to take on Phil Mickelson and six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

But Woods wasn’t afraid to clap back.

“I can beat Tom Brady after what I’m seeing now,” Barkley said.

“I want him.”

Woods responded: “Chuck, I think the whole world wants a piece of you.”

Despite their jovial interactions over the years, Barkley appeared to take a swipe at Woods once again in a Phil Mickelson biography, written by respected golf journalist Alan Shipnuck.

“One of the reasons Phil has lasted so long is because he’s had a joyful life,” Barkley said.

“Tiger won a bunch of tournaments, but there wasn’t much joy in it.”

Barkley added: “Sure, Tiger is a better golfer. You’re just in awe of his talent. But it’s not fun to be around him. Everyone in his world is uptight and s***, afraid to say or do the wrong thing.

“When you’re with Phil, you’re guaranteed to have fun. He makes people feel good. Everyone around him is always smiling. That’s a huge difference, man.”

It is unknown, at least publicly, whether Barkley has changed his tune on Woods.

But given the silence between the two outside of TV appearances they are both involved in, it seems the direct lines of communication remain down between Barkley and Woods.
