Like Father Like Son, Tiger Woods’ Son Posts Another Strong Finish Shows Up Dad

The 2025 season continues to go from strength to strength for Charlie Woods, who just completed another strong performance in the junior division. It’s also excellent news that his legendary father, Tiger Woods, was following him throughout the event

Woods competed between June 30 and July 2 in the Junior North & South Amateur. This is the 47th edition of the prestigious tournament hosted by Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, competing both boys and girls.

Charlie finished with a 54-hole score of 1-over that earned him a tie for 12th in a field that began with 94 players.

The younger Woods improved throughout the tournament, starting with a 2-over 72 opening round on Pinehurst No. 2. Charlie carded four birdies and six bogeys on this day.

A day later, it was time to play Pinehurst No. 8, and Charlie fared much better, with his only major complication being a double bogey on the 10th hole. He added three birdies and a bogey to his card for an even-par 72 for the round.

The final round was also played on Pinehurst No. 8. Charlie started poorly, bogeying his first three holes and adding another bogey on the 8th and a birdie on the 6th to make the turn at 3-over for the day and five over for the week.

However, he managed to find his best golf of the tournament on the back nine, where he carded five birdies and a bogey, finishing the round at 1-under and bringing his tournament score to 1-over.

Tiger Woods Seen Following Charlie

A video circulating on social media shows Charlie exchanging words with Tiger Woods after making one of his back nine birdies. Tiger can be seen riding in a golf cart, with no details of his current health being revealed.

However, the mere fact that the 15-time major champion is following his son around a golf tournament can undoubtedly be interpreted as a good sign. As you may recall, Tiger also followed Charlie around during the Florida Amateur Championship just a few weeks ago.

These have been the clearest signs of Tiger Woods’ recovery since injuring his Achilles tendon last March.

The Junior North & South Amateur is not sanctioned by the American Junior Golf Association, so Charlie won’t be able to improve his current ranking (14th). However, the result at Pinehurst definitely continues his streak of strong results, led by his victory at the TaylorMade Junior Invitational last May.

At Just 16 years old Charlie Woods’ game is affected by pressure that not even his father Tiger Woods experienced

At just 16 years old, Charlie Woods is navigating a world of expectations that most professional athletes don’t face until well into their careers.

As the son of golf icon Tiger Woods, Charlie competes not only against the field but also against a relentless wave of comparisons, fanfare, and pressure, all magnified by today’s hyper-connected media landscape.

This week, Charlie teed up at the prestigious North & South Junior Amateur Championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina. The tournament, a significant milestone on the junior golf circuit, was another step in his development.

Yet, unlike other junior competitors, Charlie’s every swing was tracked by cameras, and his group received featured coverage, a rare honor typically reserved for the tournament leaders. Even though Charlie wasn’t in contention early on, the Woods name alone drew media and spectator attention.

Tiger woods

His performance started shakily with three consecutive bogeys in the final round, briefly pushing him outside the top 30. But Charlie showed resilience, posting a final-round 1-under 71 on Pinehurst No. 8 to tie for 12th place at 1-over for the tournament.

It was a commendable result considering the circumstances, but few 12th-place finishers would draw so much national focus.

The social media spotlight: A pressure tiger never faced

While Tiger Woods carved out his legacy in the 1990s under traditional media scrutiny, Charlie is growing up in a radically different era.

Constantly followed by camera phones, social media accounts, and viral expectations, Charlie faces a pressure that his father has acknowledged he never encountered.

“The type of attention is very different than what I had. We didn’t have social media. We didn’t have camera phones. We didn’t have any of that,” Tiger Woods reflected.

Charlie Woods

Earlier this year at the Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier in Hobe Sound, Florida, Charlie‘s round was derailed by chaos. Fans ignored ropes, followed him on the fairway, shouted during his backswing, and even chased after his golf ball.

One even tried to get him to sign a copy of his father’s book mid-round. Unsurprisingly, the distractions impacted his game, and he shot a 16-over 86, failing to advance.

This isn’t just about golf-it’s about managing a level of public intrusion that would test even the most seasoned pros. Charlie continues to show grace under pressure, but the environment he competes in is anything but normal for a teenager.

Other legacy kids know the struggle

Charlie isn’t alone in this experience. John Daly II, son of two-time major winner John Daly, shared a similar sentiment on the Identity Sports Podcast.

“Everybody just puts Charlie in this category that not many people get to until they are 20, 21, or 22,” Daly Jr. explained. “He’s just a kid; he wants to have fun, I guess… I think people expect way too much of him for his age right now.”

Daly Jr. knows firsthand how unfair comparisons and public expectations can derail a young athlete’s confidence. Like Charlie, he was often judged not by his own progress but by the towering reputation of his father.

Despite the setbacks and the noise, Charlie Woods continues to improve. He’s shown poise in elite junior tournaments and has already demonstrated the kind of mental toughness that suggests a promising future in golf.

After 72 Shots: What Cause Charlie Woods fare at Pinehurst in the 47th North & South Junior Amateur?

Charlie Woods was back on the junior circuit this week at the famed Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina.

Woods, a rising junior at Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 71 (1-under) in the final round on July 2 at Pinehurst No. 8 to finish 1-over and enter the clubhouse tied for 12th place at the 47th North & South Junior Amateur Championship.

Woods shot 72 on the first two days of the tournament on Pinehurst’s course No. 2 and No. 8 to enter the final round 2-over par and six shots back of the lead in a tie for 15th

He bogeyed his first three holes in Wednesday’s final round to slip off the lead pace and outside the Top 30. A multi-hour weather delay paused play midway through the third round.

Woods returned from the delay with a bogey but gathered momentum with birdies on three straight holes and five of the last eight overall to rise into the Top 12.

Pinehurst’s No. 2 has hosted five major championships, including four U.S. Open championships, most recently in 2024.

It is considered an “anchor site” for the United States Golf Association and will host four more U.S. Open tournaments through 2050.

Who is Miles Russell? Charlie Woods’ main rival confirms plan to follow Brooks Koepka’s path into golf

Charlie Woods: As Tiger Woods’ son garners attention in junior golf, rival Miles Russell follows a proven path to elite development

In the world of junior golf, rivalries often serve as catalysts for growth and excellence. One such rivalry is between Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, and Miles Russell, a 16-year-old prodigy from Jacksonville Beach

While Woods Jr. has been making headlines with his recent victories, Russell has quietly made a significant decision that could shape his golfing future.

On June 30, 2025, Russell announced his commitment to Florida State University (FSU), a move that mirrors the path taken by five-time major champion Brooks Koepka.

Following in Koepka’s footsteps

Brooks Koepka’s tenure at FSU was marked by dominance and achievement. From 2008 to 2012, Koepka earned ACC Player of the Year honors twice and set the Seminoles’ all-time low scoring average at 71.11.

Under the guidance of Coach Trey Jones, FSU has developed a reputation for nurturing elite talent, with multiple major champions emerging from its program. Russell’s decision to join FSU indicates his intent to follow a proven blueprint for success in the professional arena.

Russell’s commitment to FSU was announced just days after being named one of the star attractions for the 2025 ISCO Championship, a prestigious event boasting a $4 million purse.

His inclusion in the tournament, scheduled from July 10 to 13, 2025, at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, places him in the company of notable players like Luke Clanton, Matti Schmid, and Peter Malnati. This exposure provides Russell with a platform to showcase his skills on a national stage.

Russell vs Woods and their contrasting paths

While both Russell and Woods are exceptional talents, their approaches to their golfing careers differ.

Russell has taken a route that includes competing against seasoned professionals, making history as the youngest player ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at just 15 years old, and debuting on the PGA Tour – all while maintaining his amateur status and securing endorsement deals with TaylorMade and Nike.

Charlie Woods

In contrast, Woods has focused on excelling in junior tournaments and USGA events, recently clinching his first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational. These differing paths highlight that there is no singular approach to success in golf. Both players are carving out their unique journeys, each with its own set of challenges and opportunities.

Russell’s decision to commit to FSU underscores his dedication to following a structured development plan, while Woods continues to build his resume through competitive junior play.

Miles Russell’s commitment to Florida State University is more than just a collegiate decision; it’s a strategic move that aligns with a legacy of success established by Brooks Koepka.

As he prepares to compete in the upcoming ISCO Championship, Russell is positioning himself for a future in professional golf, following a path that has been proven to produce champions.

Charlie Woods

Meanwhile, Charlie Woods continues to make his mark in junior golf, demonstrating that there are multiple avenues to success in the sport. The rivalry between these two young talents is one to watch, as both are set to influence the future of golf in their own distinct ways.

The promising youngsters Charlie Woods and Kai Trump put their skills to the test once more at the two-round tournament over the past few days, although things went slightly better for one than the other

Charlie Woods and Kai Trump once again caught the eye as they competed in the 41st edition of the Nicklaus Junior Championship this week, although it was the former who ended up by far the happier come the end of the two-round tournament.

The teenagers, bearing the weight of such huge names on their back, have emerged as two of the nation’s most promising golfers within their respective age categories, and put their skills to the test once more by teeing off in Florida over the past two days. It comes four months after the duo struggled at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in March.

By the end of that tournament, Woods, son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, finished 25th out of 36 players, while Trump, daughter of Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr., and granddaughter of President Donald Trump, finished last out of 24 in her draw. Despite their unconvincing performances, they still saw a notable boost in their American Junior Golf Association rankings.

Since then, both have seen vast improvements in their performances. Woods, 16, won the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, before securing his place in the U.S Junior Amateur Championship in July, while Trump, 18, finished in second-place at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Major Championship earlier this month.

On Tuesday, however, only one of them could continue their recent good run of form. By the time the Nicklaus Junior Championship wrapped up at the private Tequesta Country Club, located north of the pro golf enclave of Jupiter, it was Woods who emerged the happiest.

After finishing even-par for the tournament with a final round 69 (2-under), he placed sixth in a field of 122 boys golfers, finishing just four shots back of eventual winner Jeremy Hsu of Port St. Lucie, who won the tournament at 4-under.

Charlie Woods

Trump, meanwhile, finished tied for 21st out of 32 golfers, having struggled to a final round score of a 3-over 74, putting her 17-over for the tournament. That’s despite playing the front nine at 1-under – the best of any girls player in the final round.

Woods’ performance was just the latest example of his rapid rise up the ranks, having already risen from No. 606 to No. 14. following his first win on the junior golf circuit last month.

Like Trump, he remains in high school, although the president’s granddaughter has already committed to play golf at the University of Miami in 2030, having announced her decision last year.

It isn’t just their golf skills and famous family ties which have gained them plenty of attention in recent times, however. Earlier this year, Woods’ dad, Tiger, went public with his relationship with Trump’s mum, Vanessa.

Both Charlie and and Kai are in high school – with Kai already committed to play golf at the University of Miami as a part of their Class of 2030.

Charlie, on the other hand, is starting to make a name for himself after a notable win on the junior golf circuit which saw his ranking jump from No. 606 to No. 14.

It’s been an eventful year for the Woods family after Tiger went public with his relationship with Vanessa Trump.

That announcement came 10 days after DailyMail.com exclusively broke the news that the golf icon was dating Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife.

Alongside two pictures of the loved-up couple, Woods wrote: ‘Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together.

‘At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.’

The couple have the blessing of the President, with Trump himself saying he was happy when he learned that they had become an item.

‘He told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good. I’m very, happy for both.’ But they just let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great,’ Trump said.

‘I love Tiger and I love Vanessa. He and I have a very special, very good relationship with Tiger. I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete.’

Additionally, Tiger’s mother, Kultida, passed away in February – a devastating blow as the matriarch of the Woods family died at the age of 80.

Tiger himself has been absent from the course after suffering an injury to his Achilles as he prepared for the Masters back in April. However, he was recently seen without a brace on his knee riding a golf cart while watching Charlie.

With The Open Championship coming up next month, it’s unclear if Tiger will have rehabbed his injury in time.

Charlie Woods shot 69 (2-under) to finish the tournament even-par and sixth place in a field of 122 golfers. He finished four shots back of Port St. Lucie’s Jeremy Hsu, who won the tournament at 4-under.
