“It’s Official  “Las Vegas” Davis and Lamont Roach Locked In for Explosive Aug. 16 Rematch in Las Vegas”

After months of speculation, whispers, and rising tension, it’s finally official: Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Lamont Roach Jr. will meet again on Aug. 16 in Las Vegas, setting the stage for one of the most emotionally charged rematches in recent boxing memory. This isn’t just another fight announcement—it’s a collision fueled by pride, controversy, and a rivalry that never truly cooled.

The first encounter left too many questions unanswered. The rematch promises answers—violent ones.

When Davis and Roach first crossed paths, the bout delivered drama, skill, and moments that split fans right down the middle. Davis’ power and star aura clashed with Roach’s discipline, grit, and refusal to be intimidated. While the official result favored Davis, the aftermath told a different story—one of debate, frustration, and lingering resentment.

Roach walked away believing he had more to give. Davis walked away knowing the conversation didn’t end with the final bell.

The bright lights magnify everything—confidence, doubt, swagger, and fear. For Davis, Vegas represents familiarity and expectation. As one of boxing’s biggest draws, he’s used to carrying the weight of the event, the crowd, and the narrative. Every appearance is treated like a spectacle, every punch analyzed in slow motion.

For Roach, Vegas is opportunity. It’s the place where underdogs rewrite scripts and silence arenas. He’s coming in not just to compete—but to disrupt, to shock, and to force the boxing world to say his name differently.

For Davis, the Aug. 16 showdown is about dominance and control of the storyline. Critics have questioned everything from opponent selection to focus outside the ring. A decisive performance against Roach would be a statement—one meant to shut down doubts and reassert his position as one of boxing’s most dangerous forces.

Gervonta Davis

For Roach, this fight is legacy-defining. He’s long been respected by purists for his technique and toughness, but this is the moment that can elevate him from respected contender to undeniable threat. He’s not chasing popularity—he’s chasing validation.

And he knows chances like this don’t come twice unless you force them to.

Davis brings explosive power, timing, and the kind of patience that makes opponents second-guess every step forward. One mistake can change everything—and Tank has built a career on capitalizing when fighters blink.

Roach counters with sharp fundamentals, ring IQ, and a calmness that refuses to crumble under pressure. He doesn’t rush. He doesn’t panic. And he believes that discipline—not chaos—will be the key to cracking Davis.

Power vs Precision: Gervonta Davis Faces Crucial Test Against Lamont Roach in High-Stakes Showdown

Gervonta “Tank” Davis has built his reputation on inevitability. When he connects clean, fights tend to end abruptly. Lamont Roach Jr., by contrast, has carved out his career with discipline, ring IQ, and the kind of composure that frustrates punchers. As talk intensifies around a potential Davis–Roach showdown, the matchup presents one of the most intriguing style clashes in the lightweight division.

Davis remains one of boxing’s most bankable stars, a southpaw wrecking ball whose timing and shot selection have produced a highlight-reel knockout ratio. His patience is often overlooked—Tank is content to download data, make reads, and flip a fight with a single counter. That blend of calm and concussive power has made him a nightmare for opponents who can’t afford even a momentary lapse.

Roach enters the conversation from a different angle. A former world champion at super featherweight, he’s long been respected for his fundamentals: tight defense, smart footwork, and an ability to control tempo. He doesn’t chase knockouts; he accumulates advantages. Against elite competition, Roach’s poise and adaptability have been his calling cards, and those tools could matter greatly against a finisher like Davis.

Stylistically, the fight asks a simple question with a complex answer: can Roach manage distance and deny Davis the exchanges he thrives on? If Roach can keep the bout in the long range—using his jab, lateral movement, and angles—he gives himself a chance to bank rounds and extend the contest. But every minute in the ring with Davis carries risk. Tank’s counters are sharp, his body work is brutal, and his ability to explode late makes even comfortable leads feel fragile.

Gervonta Davis

For Davis, the matchup offers a chance to showcase layers of his game beyond power. Beating a composed, technically sound opponent would reinforce his claim as a complete fighter, not just a puncher. For Roach, it’s an opportunity to upend expectations, proving that craft and composure can blunt even the most dangerous offense.

Beyond styles, the stakes are clear. A Davis win keeps him firmly at the center of the lightweight conversation and fuels demand for the division’s biggest nights. A Roach upset would ripple across boxing, instantly reshaping title pictures and elevating him into the sport’s top tier.

Whether it becomes a tactical chess match or ends in sudden drama, Davis vs. Roach promises tension from the opening bell. It’s power versus precision—one moment capable of changing everything.

“He’s Just a Gatekeeper!” — Gervonta Davis Takes a Savage Shot at Lamont Roach

Lamont Roach may have given Gervonta Davis all he could handle, but ‘Tank’ doesn’t see anything special in the former junior lightweight champion.
Roach faced Isaac Cruz on Saturday in his first appearance since fighting Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) to a controversial draw on March 1 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Initially, Davis agreed to an immediate rematch with Roach, before ultimately choosing to partake in an exhibition with Jake Paul. After more domestic violence allegations against Davis came to light, the Paul fight was scrapped.

At Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, Roach (25-1-3, 10 KOs) was knocked down and fought a close contest with Cruz, settling for his second majority draw of the year. In the aftermath of the fight, Davis gave some very brief thoughts on Roach.
“He’s a gatekeeper,” Davis said on his X account. “That’s it.
Roach, 30, was forced to play catch-up against Cruz after touching the canvas in the third round. To his credit, he fought well in the pocket. Cruz, who lost a close decision to Davis in 2021, was deducted a point in the seventh after a kidney punch.
Terence CrawfordThis may not be the last time Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KOs) and Roach see each other in the ring. At the post-fight presser, they sat side-by-side. Each man stated their case for why the scorecards should have been in their favor. Nevertheless, in the midst of those discussions, they both agreed to a prompt rematch.
That sequel, however, will take time after it was revealed Roach suffered a broken right hand in the fifth round.

Controversy: Lamont Roach Threatens Legal Showdown with Gervonta Davis Over Controversial Jake Paul Fight

Lamont Roach revealed whether he’s pursue legal action against Gervonta Davis in the wake of him fighting Jake Paul.

After Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta “Tank” Davis fought to a draw on March 1, everybody thought that a rematch was going to be the obvious next course of action.

Not only was the inconclusive fight result itself conducive to a rematch, but the controversy of what actually happened within the 12 rounds — specifically in round nine, when Davis took a knee out of nowhere that should have resulted in penalization (that would have caused him to lose) but went unpunished — made it feel like a rematch was inevitable.

However, negotiations took an exceedingly long time in the wake of that bout. And while a rematch date of August 16 had been rumored, the fact that neither fighter nor promotion confirmed this rematch date suggested not everything was as it seemed.

August 16 came and went with no Davis vs. Roach II fight taking place. And soon afterwards, Gervonta announced that he would be fighting against Jake Paul on November 14.

Terence Crawford

Roach was upset when this Davis vs. Paul fight was announced, as he made it clear that he felt like Gervonta was ducking the rematch to chase a money fight against Jake Paul.

He also alleged that both he and Davis had already signed to fight each other. But because Davis went in another direction after signing on the dotted line, this could be considered a breach of contract and would be grounds for taking Davis to court.

Roach was interviewed on an October 14 edition of Inside the Ring. And at one point, he was asked whether he was going to pursue legal action against Tank for failing to heed the rematch contract.

“I never said this publicly, but no, we aren’t going to go to arbitration. Because I’m very well taken care of. I’mma say that,” Roach said, per an X post from Mike Coppinger.

He then added, “I publicly want to say thank you to Al Haymon, PBC, and everyone who made things right on his behalf. Even though he messed up, on his behalf, they made things right on my end.”

While Roach didn’t specify exactly what he meant by saying PBC “made things right on my end,” it’s safe to assume they paid him a sum of money not to take this to court.

And Roach was clearly willing to oblige, which means that Davis won’t be going go court because of his supposed breach of contract.

“It’s Weird He’s Avoiding the Rematch”  Gervonta Davis Accused of Disrespect by Lamont Roach

Lamont Roach appreciated Gervonta Davis for giving an opportunity Davis didn’t need to grant him before they fought March 1.
Seven months later, Roach feels disrespected by Davis because the WBA lightweight champion reneged on agreeing to fight him again.
Davis exercised his contractual right to an immediate rematch following their controversial majority draw, but postponed their second fight twice before ultimately announcing that he’ll instead face Jake Paul in a cruiserweight exhibition November 14 at Kaseya Center in Miami.
Once Davis definitively bailed on their rematch, Roach, the WBA 130-pound champion, agreed to move up another five pounds to face WBC interim 140-pound champ Isaac Cruz in a Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view main event December 6 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.

Roach addressed what he considers bizarre behavior by Davis during the newest episode of “Inside The Ring,” available on DAZN and The Ring’s YouTube channel.
“For real, for real, I feel a little disrespected like just on the business aspect,” Roach told co-hosts Max Kellerman and Mike Coppinger. “Just because you don’t do business like that.
Gervonta Davis
“Now say if I were to go to arbitration – then what? Then you gotta pay lawyer fees or you put your promotional company in the hole, where they have to back you because technically it’s on them. They’re the ones who puttin’ on the fight.
“That’s who I have the contract [with]. That’s who draws up the agreement, the contract, or whatever the case may be. Like it’s crazy for you to do business-wise. Personally, and for the integrity of the sport, it’s just like, ‘Now you playin’ with the sport.’ Like, come on, bro. I just think that’s a little weird.
Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) assumed Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) would want an opportunity to redeem himself following a 12-round, 135-pound title fight Roach and legions of fans believe he won at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Judge Eric Marlinski scored Davis a 115-113 winner, but Glenn Feldman and Steve Weisfeld had it 114-114 apiece.

Baltimore’s Davis escaped with a draw in large part because referee Steve Willis didn’t count a knockdown for Roach when Davis oddly took a knee 43 seconds into the ninth round. Davis, who claimed a substance placed in his hair got in his eye, immediately went to his corner and had trainer Calvin Ford wipe off his face after taking a knee, which could’ve resulted in a disqualification.
Their rematch was initially planned for June 21 in Las Vegas and later for August 16.
The hard-hitting Davis was a 16-1 favorite before Roach tested him. Now much of the public perceives Davis as a fighter far too content to avoid their rematch.
Anthony Joshua
Roach, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, has been told as much countless times throughout their home state.
“All you gonna hear is, ‘Why that man ducking you?,’ ” Roach said of his interactions with fans. “I mean, and trust me, I been to Baltimore. I had a lunch or two in Baltimore. I hear the same thing every time. Like, ‘Oh, big fan. But why that man ducking you?’ That’s all I hear. … I try to let it go, but it’s hard to let go because that’s what everybody talks about. That’s all. It’s crazy.”

Lamont Roach Breaks His Silence With Shocking Update on Rematch Plans Following Gervonta Davis’ Arrest

Gervonta Davis was arrested on July 11 in Miami Beach due to allegations of assault on his ex-girlfriend. The reported incident took place on Father’s Day, June 15.

‘Tank’ Davis has been accused of hitting his former girlfriend on the back of the head, as well as slapping her, leaving the victim with a cut on the inner lip. The WBA lightweight champion was also filmed by the victim’s mother throwing a small object at her.

This has put serious question marks over Davis’ boxing future, including his rematch against Lamont Roach. Davis and Roach fought out a controversial majority draw in March, where ‘Tank’ took a deliberate knee but it wasn’t counted as a knockdown.

The pair has a scheduled rematch for August 16. However, there is speculation whether the fight would go ahead at all following Davis’ run-in with the law. Lamont Roach Jr has now confirmed the status of the fight, claiming Davis is already out of jail and the clash will go ahead as planned.

Gervonta davis

I heard buddy is home already. So, for all of you people that keep talking that we’re not fighting, this and that. I just wanna let you know that the fight is still on. The fight is still scheduled for August 16. We’re just waiting on the announcement.

Lamont Roach Suddenly Backtracks on Davis Rematch After Tank’s Arrest Sends Shockwaves Through the Boxing World

Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach looked set to have their rematch on August 16. However, Davis was arrested on July 11 on charges of domestic violence against his former girlfriend, who is the mother of the boxer’s two children. He has since been released from custody.

Reports emerged that ‘Tank’ Davis stopped training following the incident on June 15th and that PBC was exploring a new date for the rematch, noting that the initial date could be postponed a week or two.

The rematch currently looks in limbo, and Roach has now provided an additional update regarding the likelihood of the fight going forward. He initially claimed the rematch would go ahead as planned on August 16, however, his latest comments contradict that stance and he now doubts the rematch will go ahead at all.

During his latest stream, ‘The Reaper’ said:

I ain’t gonna lie bro, I just think this n**** don’t wanna fight. Remember when I tweeted, can he hold up his end of [the deal]? He still ain’t getting past that. That makes me mad, I am not gonna lie. It’s still a possibility but I think little bro just don’t wanna get in there. I really think that.

Gervonta davis

Roach added that there’s no certainty about the rematch going forward and he is unhappy about it. He says he’s been looking sharp in training but thinks Davis is too scared to have a rematch.
Their first fight back in March ended in a majority draw where Davis retained the WBA lightweight title. ‘Tank’ took a deliberate knee in the fight which wasn’t correctly counted as a knockdown.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) stood toe-to-toe with Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) and took what ‘Tank’ had to offer. He landed some significant counter shots of his own, often stumbling Davis. It was certainly the toughest fight of Davis’ career.

Some believe Roach is the perfect anecdote to Davis’ style while others reckon ‘Tank’ didn’t take the fight as seriously as he should have. All these narratives make the rematch an intriguing prospect, which unfortunately looks in serious jeopardy at the moment.

Rematch Report: PBC Eyes New Dates for Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Rematch, Targeting August 23 or 30 in Las Vegas

Gervonta Davis’ immediate rematch with Lamont Roach has been pushed back at least another week or two, perhaps longer.
The Ring learned Sunday that representatives for Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions were working over the weekend to determine if the second 12-round, 135-pound championship bout between Davis and Roach could be scheduled for Aug. 23 or 30 in Las Vegas.
PBC intended to hold their WBA lightweight championship rematch Aug. 16 in Las Vegas, but fighting on that date became increasingly unlikely even before Davis was arrested again Friday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, the mother of two of his children, on June 15 in Doral, Florida.

The Ring reported two months ago that the Davis-Roach rematch would take place Aug. 16, but PBC never announced it for that date.
The Ring has also learned Davis, 30, had stopped training in Miami for approximately three weeks prior to his arrest Friday. It isn’t clear how yet another legal issue could impact his availability to fight next month and beyond.
Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs), of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is obligated to an immediate rematch with Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) because the Baltimore native exercised that contractual right after they fought to a surprising majority draw March 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Davis was heavily favored to win.

If Davis is either unable or unwilling to commit to their rematch within a reasonable period of time, however, Roach’s representatives could begin exploring other options for the WBA super featherweight champion’s next fight.
Gervonta davisHandlers for Davis, The Ring’s No. 1-ranked lightweight, and Roach, ranked No. 4 among The Ring’s junior lightweight contenders, first talked about scheduling their rematch for June 21 in Las Vegas. Davis reportedly wanted more time to train, though, which was when the targeted date moved to Aug. 16, four weeks from this Saturday.

“He’s A Great Fighter” Gervonta Davis Reveals His Honest Score For His Fight Against Lamont Roach: “He’s A Great Fighter”

Gervonta Davis is gearing up for his highly-anticipated rematch with Lamont Roach. The two men originally met back in March, in a controversial bout that saw ‘Tank’ retain his WBA lightweight title after a majority decision draw.

The judges scored the fight 115-113 Davis and 114-114 twice, but a lot of fans felt that Roach should have been given the verdict to be crowned as a new world champion at 135lbs.

One of the reasons why many fans feel that way was due to a moment in the ninth round when ‘Tank’ voluntarily took a knee, but no knockdown was scored by the referee, something that would have swung the scorecards in Roach’s favour if a 10-8 round had been scored.

Ahead of the bout with Roach, Davis had been linked to big fights against a number of other names, but the controversy from their first battle has now led to a rematch, which is set to take place in August in Las Vegas.

Speaking about the first fight, ‘Tank’ revealed to Fight Hub TV how he scored their initial contest.

“I didn’t get the decision I wanted but we didn’t get a loss. I thought I won it with the last couple of rounds.

Gervonta davis

It’s cool, Lamont is a great fighter.”

Davis will be hoping to secure the win in August to retain his WBA lightweight title, in a division which has been blown open in recent days after the retirement of one of the reigning world champions.

Vasiliy Lomachenko has hung up the gloves after an incredible career, meaning Raymond Muratalla is likely to be elevated from interim champion to full IBF champion in the near future, potentially paving a way for a future unification opportunity for Davis.
