Jannik Sinner is not only one of the best tennis players in the world, but he is on his way to becoming an all-time great.

Sinner is already a four-time grand slam champion and, at 24 years of age, he should not slow down any time soon.

Unless another rival emerges, it could be he and Carlos Alcaraz at the top of the game for the next decade.

The Tennis Gazette looks at Sinner’s world ranking history, including his weeks at number one and year-end finishes.

Jannik Sinner world ranking history

Jannik Sinner became world number one for the first time after the 2024 French Open. Sinner’s semifinal defeat to Alcaraz was enough to leapfrog Novak Djokovic, who withdrew from the tournament at the quarterfinal stage.

The Italian then held the top spot for 65 consecutive weeks before losing out to Carlos Alcaraz after his US Open victory in 2025.

Sinner returned to number one with his success at the Paris Masters in November, but his reign only lasted one week

Jannik Sinner finished his first season on the ATP Tour (2018) as the 551st-ranked player in the world. He then climbed to 78th in his second.

Jannik Sinner

Sinner’s first end-of-year top 10 came in 2021. He has been in the top four for the last three years, including the number one ranking in 2024.

Jannik Sinner will break dozens of records throughout his career. The only thing stopping him at the moment is longevity.

However, he already has a few records to his name, including becoming the youngest male player to make the final of all four Grand Slams in the same year

Sinner: It Didn’t Feel Real, Carlos Alcaraz’s French Open Final Comeback Seen Through the Eyes of Someone Who Was There

Jannik Sinner: It was not until what appeared to be the dying moments of the French Open final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz that I realised it could be worth taking a photo of such a monumental occasion. This was, after all, the first grand slam final between the two players who seemed set to lead men’s tennis for many years to come

For three hours and 43 minutes Sinner had dominated Alcaraz and he earned three championship points while leading 5-3 in set four. Just before the Italian’s second championship point, I thrust up my phone and took a quick photo before my hand returned to my laptop, ready to file immediately an article that hailed his third consecutive major title and first triumph in Paris.

Instead, it would take another hour and 46 minutes for a winner to be decided on Court Philippe-Chatrier in June. What unfolded was one of the greatest comebacks and matches as Alcaraz returned from the abyss to produce an astounding 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) victory.

Even now, six months removed from that day, it is difficult to fully comprehend those events in Paris. For hours Alcaraz had been outhit and outplayed by his biggest rival and the then world No 1 in a major final. His dire unforced errors to fall 0-40 down at 3-5 in set four seemed to seal his fate. No one in the stadium believed a comeback was possible.

No one except Alcaraz. First he dragged himself back to deuce, completely locking down his game, then he soared. By the time he closed out his service game for 4-5 with an outrageous running forehand winner, the energy inside the stadium had shifted and the crowd met the moment spectacularly.

carlos Alcaraz

The stadium shook as most of the 15,000 present punctuated every successful point from Alcaraz with roars of encouragement and delight, to which the Spaniard responded by cupping his ears, pumping his fists and doing everything in his power to take advantage of their encouragement.

Once the momentum had been wrestled back, it seemed as if he would not let go. Alcaraz methodically worked his way through the fourth set, then broke serve at the beginning of the fifth and maintained his advantage until he led 5-3. Had he calmly closed out the match at his first opportunity, this would still have been a classic.

The final 30 minutes, however, are what truly established this contest as one of the all-time greats. Sinner, having spent the fifth set hobbling around the court, his energy destroyed, suddenly found a second, third and fourth wind all at once.

He retrieved the break and the level of play ascended into the stratosphere as, driven by desperation and adrenaline after five hours of battle, both players swung with total freedom.

Despite all that had already unfolded, the most memorable moment came in the form of the defensive slice Alcaraz struck deep in the fifth set as Sinner hunted his fourth championship point at 6-5, 30-30. No other player would have even put a racket on the ball, yet Alcaraz somehow turned that critical point around in one stroke.

He ended lasering winners at will from every part of the court as he closed out his fifth grand slam title in a match tie-break to seal his biggest triumph.

Jannik Sinner captured his fourth title of the year on Sunday, but also confirmed that he is in a love relationship with 24-year-old Danish model Laila Hasanovic.

Playing against Alexander Zverev for the main glory of the ATP 500 event in Vienna, the top-seeded Italian found himself in trouble after dropping the opening set. However, the four-time Grand Slam champion slowly worked his way back into the final and ultimately managed to pull off a 3-6 6-3 7-5 comeback win over Zverev.

Moments after capturing his 22nd ATP title, Sinner gave credit to his team. And when doing so, he specifically mentioned his “girlfriend.”

“Thank you so much for the support. The work you put in, the effort. Also to understand me at times it is not easy, but thank you for putting in the effort. Everyone here, with family, my girlfriend, friends. To my whole team and also those watching at home. Thank you so much for the support,” the 24-year-old said during his trophy speech.

Who is Sinner’s new girlfriend?

For the past few months, there had been rumors that Sinner was dating Hasanovic, a Danish model with Bosnian roots. In 2019, Hasanovic was a finalist in the Miss Universe Denmark competition. In the past, she dated Mick Schumacher – the son of F1 icon Michael Schumacher.

Meanwhile, as you probably know, Sinner went public with his relationship with WTA star Anna Kalinskaya in May 2024. By the end of the year, it had been rumored that the two had gone their separate ways. Earlier this year, the two tennis stars confirmed that they called time on their relationship, but didn’t go into any details about their breakup.

Carlos Alcaraz Blames Lack of Clarity for Wimbledon Final Loss: ‘I Wasn’t Sure What to Do’

Carlos Alcaraz admits there were moments he “didn’t know what to do” in the face of Jannik Sinner’s brilliant play during their final at Wimbledon on Sunday.

Second seed Alcaraz, chasing a third consecutive title in SW19, missed out on a sixth Grand Slam after losing in four sets to fierce rival and world No 1 Sinner.

Alcaraz took the first set on Centre Court but the Italian came storming back to claim his first title at the All England Club.

Alcaraz only landed 53% of his first serves, compared to 62% for Sinner, and the Spaniard acknowledged that Sinner’s level was consistently better throughout their three-hour battle, particularly regarding how both returned each other’s second serve.

“It was all about him pushing me to the limit in every point,” Alcaraz said. “Mentally, it’s really tough to maintain. When you see the opponent playing such good tennis, I didn’t know what to do.

carlos alcaraz

“From the baseline, he was better than me. The big key was the second serves, he was returning really well, then he was in a position to attack with the second ball. It’s difficult when you’re defending all the time.”

“I just gave him a lot of free points when he had a second serve. He has a big first serve, but when you have the chance to return the second serve, I had to do more with those points.

“He was serving quite easily, winning his service games quite easily. I had to better on that, but it was a great match, I think the level was really high.”

Despite his French Open final heartbreak, Sinner bounced back in impressive fashion on the grass to claim his first non-hard-court Grand Slam. Alcaraz, however, insists he was not surprised that the Italian responded so well.

“He didn’t surprise me at all because I know he’s a really nice player and a huge champion,” he said.

“Champions learn from the losses. I knew at the beginning that he was going to learn from that final, not going to make the same mistakes as he did in the French Open final.

“The way he played today, it was really, really high. I knew he was going to play like this. Overall, he didn’t surprise me at all because I know he’s a big champion.”

Jannik Sinner Enters Elite Company with Federer and Rafael After Achieving Rare Grand Slam Milestone Against Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner has dominated men’s tennis since the second part of 2023. The Italian ended the season ranked 4th and with his first victory over Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.

Jannik shifted his game to an even higher level since 2024, embracing a 99-9 run and adding four Major titles to his tally. Three trophies came over the 24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic, and the latest secured Sinner’s place in the record books.

The Italian defeated the Serb at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, becoming the third player with victories over Djokovic on all three surfaces at Majors, joining Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer on the exclusive list.

Rafael Nadal started with early wins over Novak in Paris and London. The Spaniard completed the feat in the 2010 US Open final, securing a hard-court victory over the Serb and accomplishing a Career Grand Slam at 24.

Roger Federer bested Djokovic in the opening stages of their rivalry on hard courts. The Swiss delivered a memorable win over an in-form rival in the 2011 Roland Garros semi-final and completed the circle a year later in the Wimbledon semi-final.

Thirteen years later, Jannik Sinner joined the ultimate legends following his dominant streak against the Serb. Last year, the Italian bested the Serb 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in the Australian Open semi-final.

Jannik faced no break points and left Novak behind in three sets to emerge at the top. This June, they met in the Roland Garros semi-final. It was a tight battle, and the younger player prevailed 6-4, 7-5, 7-6.

The young gun saved five of six break points and provided three breaks over the veteran to emerge at the top. The veteran missed a chance to extend the battle, giving his best but ending his run in the last four.

A month later, they battled in the Wimbledon semi-final. This time, the Italian overpowered the Serb 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 for a place in his first Wimbledon final. Thus, Sinner completed his wins over the most accomplished player of all time on all three surfaces at Majors within a year and a half!

Jannik has been nearly untouchable at Majors since the start of 2024, winning four titles from seven tournaments. The Italian has been the finalist at the previous four Majors, embracing a 27-1 score and writing history books.

Sinner’s consistent dominance over Djokovic on the most notable scene signals a shift in power at the top of men’s tennis. Alongside Carlos Alcaraz, the Italian has conquered the previous seven Majors, establishing the new dynasty and entering the record books.

With the US Open approaching, Jannik will try to extend his brilliance at hard-court Majors

Jannik Sinner slams door on Carlos Alcaraz’s bid to match Roger Federer’s Grand Slam legacy

Jannik Sinner got his French Open revenge on Sunday, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in the Wimbledon 2025 final. The Italian won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, clinching his fourth Grand Slam title. The defeat also saw Alcaraz fail to match Roger Federer’s record streak of winning his first seven Grand Slam finals, with the Spaniard having five consecutive wins

Alcaraz earlier won two titles at Roland Garros, two in London and one in New York. In his sixth Grand Slam final, he lost to Sinner, and failed to maintain his 100 percent success rate.

Speaking on his rivalry with Sinner, Alcaraz said in his post-match press conference, “I just am really, really happy about having this rivalry with him. I think it’s great for us and it is great for tennis. Every time we play against each other, I think our level is really high. I think we don’t watch a level like this, if I’m honest with you. I don’t see any player playing against each other having the level that we are playing when we face each other.”

Roger Federer

“I think, as I said many, many times, this rivalry is getting better and better. We’re building a really great rivalry because we’re playing finals of Grand Slams, finals of Masters – the best tournaments in the world. It’s going to be better and better. I am just really grateful for that because it gives me the opportunity to just give my 100 per cent every practice, every day, just to be better, thanks to that. The level that I have to maintain and I have to raise if I want to beat Jannik is really high,” he added.

Alcaraz also has one more Grand Slam title than Sinner (four). The Italian won the 2024 and 2025 Australian Open, 2024 US Open and now Wimbledon 2025.

Title Report: Sinner Triumphs Over Alcaraz to Clinch Glorious First Wimbledon Title

World number one Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title by wearing down Carlos Alcaraz in another high-quality Grand Slam final between the dominant forces of the men’s game.

Italy’s Sinner claimed a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory at the All England Club, avenging his brutal French Open defeat by Spanish world number two Alcaraz just 35 days ago.

Then, Sinner led by two sets – and held three championship points – before Alcaraz roared back to win a five-set classic lasting more than five hours.

Now, the 23-year-old has responded by taking two-time defending champion Alcaraz’s crown on the Centre Court grass, following another gripping contest which again showcased the pair’s shot-making, athleticism and star power.

“It is so special,” Sinner said. “I’m living my dream.”

Sinner, who served a three-month doping ban earlier this year, has claimed the fourth Grand Slam title of his career and a first major victory not on a hard court.

A composed and clinical performance from the top seed ended Alcaraz’s 24-match winning streak.

The manner in which he served out victory from going a break up at 3-1 in the fourth set – given his experience in Paris last month – was admirable.

There was a moment of knowing consternation among Sinner’s supporters when he missed a first match point, but he reset to take his second opportunity before dropping to his haunches at the net.

Sinner’s win stopped 22-year-old Alcaraz from becoming only the fifth man in the Open era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles.

“It is always difficult to lose, but first of all I have to congratulate Jannik again,” Alcaraz said.

jannik sinner

“It is a really well-deserved trophy. He has been playing great tennis and will continue to be a great rival.”

What makes Sinner so special above all else is his mentality.

The man from the mountains in northern Italy regularly remains ice-cold in the most decisive matches – which is why his fumble against Alcaraz in Paris felt so surprising.

Little appears to faze the mild-mannered Italian – on or off court.

Wimbledon Shock: Jannik Sinner Topples Carlos Alcaraz at All England Club to Capture First-Ever Title

Jannik Sinner ends the hopes of Carlos Alcaraz from winning a third straight Wimbledon title with four-set win

World No 1 Jannik Sinner dethroned two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to seal his maiden Wimbledon title with a stylish four-set win.

Sinner ended a five-match losing streak to Alcaraz, winning 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4, just 35 days after losing an epic French Open title to the Spaniard

The 23-year-old now holds three of the four Grand Slam titles and will head to Roland-Garros next year chasing the career Grand Slam.

The victory in three hours and four minutes was nearly two-and-a-half hours quicker than their Roland Garros epic.

Sinner, who was on the brink of defeat against Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round until his pectoral muscle injury changed the course of tennis history, celebrated by thrusting both arms aloft, puts their rivalry back on a knife edge, with the 23-year-old now trailing Alcaraz only by five Grand Slam titles to four and putting an end to a five-match losing streak against the Spaniard.

jannik sinner

It is also Sinner’s first major title away from his favoured hard courts, while Alcaraz suffered a first major final defeat, unable to find the same magic that had brought him back from the brink on the clay.

Sinner said in his on-court presentation: “I had a very tough loss in Paris. But it doesn’t really matter how you win or lose the important tournaments, you just have to understand what you did wrong, try to work on that.

The 23-year-old Sinner drew first blood in the first Wimbledon men’s final contested by a pair born in the 2000s, breaking for a 3-2 lead, but Alcaraz was certainly not holding back, slamming down a 136mph ace to start the match and hitting 139 in his second service game – a new record for the Spaniard, until he twice clocked 140 later in the contest.

Sinner struck the first blow, a wild Alcaraz forehand handing over the first break in the fifth game, but back came the second seed with three games in a row.

Soon that was four, with Alcaraz winning surely one of the best set-winning rallies seen on Centre Court: Sinner’s 118mph second serve was returned with interest, Alcaraz angled a forehand out wide, his rival thumped a forehand into the corner only for the Spaniard to somehow conjure a backhand winner.

He stood with his finger pointed to his head as the crowd rose to acclaim another piece of tennis wizardry.

Congratulations, Sinner v Djokovic, Alcaraz into final after beating Fritz – live Wimbledon 2025 semi-finals:

Thanks Daniel. Phew, it’s hot in this Wimbledon sauna. But no time to cool down after Alcaraz’s latest masterclass, because Sinner and Djokovic are already under way, with Djokovic sending the world No 1 a message of defiance from the off with a hold to love. Not that most of the Centre Court spectators saw it, because they’re still catching their breath after the first semi-final.

I am in awe of that man. He’s everything I want a sportsperson to be – exciting, improvisational, attitudinous and a mensch, a total one-off who is spreads joy and love wherever he goes. I cant wait to see him on Sunday, but who will he play? Katy Murrells will be here shortly to croon you through … Jannik Sinner v Novak Djokovic! Oooh yeah! But that’s it from me for now, so thanks for your company and peace out!

It’s alway hard to face Taylor, he says, especially in this heat, and he’s really happy with everything he’s done today. it’s not easy to deal with the nerves, but he’s happy to have saved set point and he’s really proud with how he stayed calm and thought clearly; he’s happy with level today. I’ll bet, old mate, I’ll bet.

Asked how he’s able to find the joy in his tennis having won 24 matches straight, not thinking about stuff like that is his answer. he’s focused on playing on a beautiful court in the most beautiful tournament in the world and for now, he’s not thinking about Sunday, he’s enjoying the moment and today’s win. He’ll have time to play and think on Sunday, but for now he’ll watch the second semi and see. Djokovic v Sinner is one of the most exciting matches they have on tour right now, so he’ll watch as much of it as he can after doing press and so on. He’ll have to play one or other, so he’ll work out his tactics and come back on Sunday.

Carlos Alcaraz (2) beats Taylor Fritz (5) 6-4 7-5 3-6 7-6(6)

carlos alcaraz

This boy is a genius, what else do you want to know?! Fritz played what might be the match of his life, but every timer he got near Alcaraz pushed him away, his confidence and creativity like nothing we’ve ever seen before – Johnny Mac is closest, and there’s no greater compliment than that. We are privileged to be living in his time, and he’ll face Sinner or Djokovic on Sunday as he bids to win a third Wimbledon in a row. Currently, he’s 5-0 in major finals.

Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 6-6 Alcaraz (4-5) A deft +1 volley makes Alcaraz 4-1, but two holds from Fritz keep him in the hunt. Can he snatch back the mini-break? Well, he gets a look at a second serve, hits a decent return and we go backhand to backhand, corner to corner, until he switches up to coax a winner down the line! Hold tight Taylor Fritz! he’s playing as well as he can, and we’re back on serve … then a brutal forehand means he’s two hodls awa from forcing a fifth set! This is fantastic stuff!

carlos alcaraz

Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 5-5 Alcaraz Terrific behaviour from Fritz, holding to love. He’s brought his A-game today, and though there’s been no point at which Alcaraz hasn’t seemed the likely winner, this set will now be settled by a point or two, and he’s more than capable of winning it or them,

“Me again, Daniel!” returns Chris Page. “Whoever wins between Hewett and De La Puente on Court 1 – a repeat of last year’s Gentlemen’s Wheelchair final – will meet Tokito Oda, who’s just sent Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez packing in straight sets 7-5 6-1. Come on, Alfie!”
