Immense pressure: Tiger Woods’ ‘relentless mindset’ revealed by ex-caddie, putting team under – immense pressure

Tiger Woods: In a recent episode of the ‘The Yardage Book Podcast’, long-time caddie of legen Tiger Woods, Steve Williams, shared details from his memoir ‘Together We Roared, describing the intense standards Woods demanded. Even after record-setting wins, the 15-time major championships winner still strived hard to win some more. It is well known that in sports, and in life, reaching success is hard, but maintaining that success is even harder.

Just like in intense battles with Phil Mickelson, Woods had a trait that added tremendous pressure on those around him. His relentless aproach, marked by incredible focus and concentration during preparation and game-time, defined one of golf’s greatest eras. Steve Williams tells us a little bit about the ‘secret sauce’ behind it and the significant cost to those who shared the path to victory.

Steve Williams, a New Zealander, joined Tiger in 1999 and was by his side for the next 11 years. He was part of the memorable ‘Tiger Slam’, which saw Woods hold all four majors simultaneously in 2000-01. The thing that made this partnership so successful wasn?t Tiger’s perfect swing, it was his never staisfied persona, his unrelenting drive for constant improvement.

Charlie Woods

“One of the most unusual things about Tiger…he didn’t celebrate. It was always on the next thing, on to the next major”, explained Williams. Taking us to Woods’ historic 15-stroke victory at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble BeachWilliams vividly described the immediate aftermath of an event celebrated by many, except by Tiger. “The next thing he says (after winning the major championship) is, ‘Steve, I’m going to play even better in St. Andrews (home of ‘The Open’ major). You go get your ass over there and get to know every blade of grass on that course.”

This obsessive mindset propelled Woods to an even more dominant win at the mentioned 2000 Open Championship: finishing nine strokes clear while avoiding a single bunker. Williams even described that four-round showing as “his best 72-hole performance” in their 12-year run together.

Woods placed immense pressure on Williams

Charlie Woods

“The pressure of working for someone like that was immense”, recalled Woods’ ex-caddie. Williams elaborated on his own laborious preparation: crafting exhaustive yardage books, compiling statistics, and analyzing course nuances. Eventually the toll on both men’s relationship became clear. After their split in 2011, due to a sudden firing over the phone, both reflected on the highs and exhaustion brought on by their laureated partnership.

Tiger Woods’ Girlfriend, Venessa Trump Reveals Truth Behind Kai’s Name

The Trump name has long echoed through politics and real estate, but now, it’s making waves on the fairways. At just 18, Kai Trump, the eldest granddaughter of President Donald J. Trump, is carving her own path in golf.

She recently finished 19th for the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship in South Florida, shooting a 3-over 74 in the final round at Tequesta Country Club. Her performance came alongside Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, who finished 6th.

The two rising stars, connected not just by golf but by family ties, shared the course as their parents, Tiger and Vanessa Trump, continue to make headlines with their growing relationship.

But amid the buzz around Kai’s swing, the internet recently got curious about her name, asking: How did she get such a unique name?

The answer came in a recent YouTube vlog My mom reveals answers to YOUR most asked questions’ posted on Kai’s channel, where she and her mother, Vanessa Trump, were seen cooking together in their Jupiter, Florida kitchen.

The video, later teased on Kai’s Instagram with the caption, “Why my mom chose to name me Kai🥹”, offered a rare, intimate glimpse into the story behind the name.

Tiger woods

“Why did you choose the name Kai?” a voice behind the camera asked as Vanessa washed her hands after seasoning the beef. Kai, meanwhile, was chopping onions beside her for their maple onion cheeseburger.

Vanessa smiled and replied, “My grandfather’s name was Kai, and I always loved the name. I was very close to him—he was like a father to me.”

She paused, then added, “Kai means ocean, and that’s one of my favorite places to go—the ocean.”

She went on to explain that the name was chosen before they even knew the baby’s gender. “We didn’t know if it was a girl or boy.”

Vanessa’s grandfather, Kai Ewans, was a Danish jazz musician and bandleader who played a pivotal role in her early life. Though she’s rarely spoken about him publicly, the way she adored him during the vlog said it all!

As Kai’s golf career gains momentum, she’s committed to the University of Miami for the 2026 NCAA season—so too does the relationship between her mother and Tiger Woods.

The couple went public in March 2025, sharing photos on Instagram with the caption, “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side.”

Who is Miles Russell? Charlie Woods’ main rival confirms plan to follow Brooks Koepka’s path into golf

Charlie Woods: As Tiger Woods’ son garners attention in junior golf, rival Miles Russell follows a proven path to elite development

In the world of junior golf, rivalries often serve as catalysts for growth and excellence. One such rivalry is between Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, and Miles Russell, a 16-year-old prodigy from Jacksonville Beach

While Woods Jr. has been making headlines with his recent victories, Russell has quietly made a significant decision that could shape his golfing future.

On June 30, 2025, Russell announced his commitment to Florida State University (FSU), a move that mirrors the path taken by five-time major champion Brooks Koepka.

Following in Koepka’s footsteps

Brooks Koepka’s tenure at FSU was marked by dominance and achievement. From 2008 to 2012, Koepka earned ACC Player of the Year honors twice and set the Seminoles’ all-time low scoring average at 71.11.

Under the guidance of Coach Trey Jones, FSU has developed a reputation for nurturing elite talent, with multiple major champions emerging from its program. Russell’s decision to join FSU indicates his intent to follow a proven blueprint for success in the professional arena.

Russell’s commitment to FSU was announced just days after being named one of the star attractions for the 2025 ISCO Championship, a prestigious event boasting a $4 million purse.

His inclusion in the tournament, scheduled from July 10 to 13, 2025, at Hurstbourne Country Club in Louisville, places him in the company of notable players like Luke Clanton, Matti Schmid, and Peter Malnati. This exposure provides Russell with a platform to showcase his skills on a national stage.

Russell vs Woods and their contrasting paths

While both Russell and Woods are exceptional talents, their approaches to their golfing careers differ.

Russell has taken a route that includes competing against seasoned professionals, making history as the youngest player ever to make the cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at just 15 years old, and debuting on the PGA Tour – all while maintaining his amateur status and securing endorsement deals with TaylorMade and Nike.

Charlie Woods

In contrast, Woods has focused on excelling in junior tournaments and USGA events, recently clinching his first AJGA title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational. These differing paths highlight that there is no singular approach to success in golf. Both players are carving out their unique journeys, each with its own set of challenges and opportunities.

As he prepares to compete in the upcoming ISCO Championship, Russell is positioning himself for a future in professional golf, following a path that has been proven to produce champions.

Meanwhile, Charlie Woods continues to make his mark in junior golf, demonstrating that there are multiple avenues to success in the sport. The rivalry between these two young talents is one to watch, as both are set to influence the future of golf in their own distinct ways.

“We visited quite a few colleges, this past summer, which was an emotional roller coaster,” Vanessa shared. “When your kid goes away, you want them to pick the school they want to go to.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami,” Kai said in a statement. “I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don [Trump Jr.], for always supporting me through my journey.

“I would like to thank my Grandpa [Trump Sr.] for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support.”

He provided her with a unique foundation for pursuing competitive golf from a young age, and now she can also learn from a true master of the sport as her mother has started dating Tiger Woods too.

Woods, who has won 15 majors and ranks second of all-time in majors won, could potentially pass on the secrets of the trade if he becomes a step-father figure, although he is currently busy teaching his own son, Charlie, how to play.

Recently, both golf prospects competed at the 41st Nicklaus Junior Championship, and it was Charlie who ended up with the family bragging rights as he left the two-round event placing 25th out of 36, whilst Kai was last in her pool.

The promising youngsters Charlie Woods and Kai Trump put their skills to the test once more at the two-round tournament over the past few days, although things went slightly better for one than the other

Charlie Woods and Kai Trump once again caught the eye as they competed in the 41st edition of the Nicklaus Junior Championship this week, although it was the former who ended up by far the happier come the end of the two-round tournament.

The teenagers, bearing the weight of such huge names on their back, have emerged as two of the nation’s most promising golfers within their respective age categories, and put their skills to the test once more by teeing off in Florida over the past two days. It comes four months after the duo struggled at the Sage Valley Junior Invitational in March.

By the end of that tournament, Woods, son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, finished 25th out of 36 players, while Trump, daughter of Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr., and granddaughter of President Donald Trump, finished last out of 24 in her draw. Despite their unconvincing performances, they still saw a notable boost in their American Junior Golf Association rankings.

Since then, both have seen vast improvements in their performances. Woods, 16, won the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, before securing his place in the U.S Junior Amateur Championship in July, while Trump, 18, finished in second-place at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Major Championship earlier this month.

On Tuesday, however, only one of them could continue their recent good run of form. By the time the Nicklaus Junior Championship wrapped up at the private Tequesta Country Club, located north of the pro golf enclave of Jupiter, it was Woods who emerged the happiest.

After finishing even-par for the tournament with a final round 69 (2-under), he placed sixth in a field of 122 boys golfers, finishing just four shots back of eventual winner Jeremy Hsu of Port St. Lucie, who won the tournament at 4-under.

Charlie Woods

Trump, meanwhile, finished tied for 21st out of 32 golfers, having struggled to a final round score of a 3-over 74, putting her 17-over for the tournament. That’s despite playing the front nine at 1-under – the best of any girls player in the final round.

Woods’ performance was just the latest example of his rapid rise up the ranks, having already risen from No. 606 to No. 14. following his first win on the junior golf circuit last month.

Like Trump, he remains in high school, although the president’s granddaughter has already committed to play golf at the University of Miami in 2030, having announced her decision last year.

It isn’t just their golf skills and famous family ties which have gained them plenty of attention in recent times, however. Earlier this year, Woods’ dad, Tiger, went public with his relationship with Trump’s mum, Vanessa.

Charlie, on the other hand, is starting to make a name for himself after a notable win on the junior golf circuit which saw his ranking jump from No. 606 to No. 14.

It’s been an eventful year for the Woods family after Tiger went public with his relationship with Vanessa Trump.

That announcement came 10 days after DailyMail.com exclusively broke the news that the golf icon was dating Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-wife.

Alongside two pictures of the loved-up couple, Woods wrote: ‘Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together.

‘At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts.’

The couple have the blessing of the President, with Trump himself saying he was happy when he learned that they had become an item.

‘He told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good. I’m very, happy for both.’ But they just let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great,’ Trump said.

‘I love Tiger and I love Vanessa. He and I have a very special, very good relationship with Tiger. I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete.’

Additionally, Tiger’s mother, Kultida, passed away in February – a devastating blow as the matriarch of the Woods family died at the age of 80.

Tiger himself has been absent from the course after suffering an injury to his Achilles as he prepared for the Masters back in April. However, he was recently seen without a brace on his knee riding a golf cart while watching Charlie.

With The Open Championship coming up next month, it’s unclear if Tiger will have rehabbed his injury in time.

Tiger Woods is head over heels for his new girlfriend, Vanessa Trump. The legendary golfer plans to treat her like royalty this summer, and friends are hinting at a possible engagement, according to a report.

“Tiger is fully enmeshed in Vanessa’s world. He was just at the White House with her and was welcomed with open arms by everyone,” the insider revealed

The insider added: “She has a very high-flying circle of friends, and he’s in with them too and planning to rent a massive super yacht this summer to cruise around the Mediterranean with Vanessa and a bunch of her friends.”

And he’s certainly enjoying himself,” the insider dished.

According to the insider, Woods is “grinning from ear to ear” these days. Although he and Trump, 47, haven’t been dating long, the PGA tour champion insisted this is “the best relationship he’s ever had.”

Tiger woods

“He’s over the moon about her and saying he plans to marry her so people in his world are expecting it to happen fairly soon,” the source explained.

Woods and Trump, who was previously married to Donald Trump Jr., quietly navigated their relationship, but now it’s blossoming into the spotlight. Sources said the couple started seeing each other around Thanksgiving 2024 after their teenagers connected at school and during golf events.

They confirmed their romance in March when Tiger shared two affectionate photos on social media with the caption: “Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together.” Vanessa echoed his sentiment via her Instagram Story.

Shortly after, Vanessa’s former sister-in-law Ivanka Trump expressed her joy by commenting, “So happy for you both!”

The couple share strong ties to the golf community, as their teenagers — Tiger’s Sam and Charlie, and Vanessa’s daughter Kai — attend the same school and compete in rival junior golf tournaments. Their mutual interest in their children’s athletic pursuits appears to have strengthened their bond.

“I love Tiger and I love Vanessa,” President Donald Trump said, according to People. “He and I have a very special, very good relationship with Tiger. I played golf with him a couple of times over the last month, and he’s a fantastic guy and a fantastic athlete.”

The 78-year-old president continued, “He told me about it, and I said, ‘Tiger, that’s good, that’s good.’ I’m very happy for both. Just let them both be happy. Let them both be happy. They’re both great.”

The timing of their relationship is particularly meaningful. Tiger is on the mend following a ruptured Achilles tendon, which cut short his 2025 season after a March announcement. Meanwhile, Vanessa, who shares five children with Trump Jr., finalized her divorce in 2018.

PGA Tour: Tiger Woods doubt cast, defending champion skips major and Jon Rahm licks his lips

Tiger Woods: The prestigious Open Championship is set to return next month, marking the final golf major of the season.

This historic event will take place at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland for only the third time ever, and will showcase top players such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka and many others.

In the run-up to the major, there’s been much chatter about the possibility of Tiger Woods taking on the captain’s role for Team USA at the Ryder Cup in September. Although Woods isn’t expected to compete at Royal Portrush, LIV Golf star Jon Rahm is, and the Spaniard has shared his ambition to secure a third career major.

Other key stories that Mirror Sport has explored in the world of golf include Richard Bland opting out of the US Senior Open for LIV, and Viktor Hovland’s pointed comments towards outgoing PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, reports the Mirror US.

Keegan Bradley, winner of the Travelers Championship, is set to lead Team USA into the Ryder Cup in September, but his recent winning streak has sparked questions about whether he’ll be able to juggle the potential dual role of player-captain.

Sky Sports Golf pundit Laura Davies doubts the possibility of Bradley captaining and playing simultaneously in the golfing spectacle. On talkSPORT, she said: “Back then, there was a lot less for captains to do. So, I could see a captain playing back in those days, but now with all the huge media coverage and all their commitments, and it’s huge commitments

“I’ve been a vice captain on the Solheim Cup a few times, and I see how much a captain has to do during the week. Obviously the buildup, that doesn’t matter, but during the week there’s so much going on. I don’t think you can play and be a captain.”

Davies further suggested that Tiger Woods wouldn’t want the dual role amid speculation, instead proposing Jim Furyk: “I don’t think Tiger would like to be the captain in those circumstances,” she added. “The reason you have those vice captains, and you choose them carefully, is because you know that they can step in if need be, at any given time.

“Jim’s already been the captain once before. I’m assuming his other vice captains are the ones we’ve known before, Freddy Couples, possibly I don’t know who he’s chosen, but I know Jim’s there, and he would be the obvious one for me.”
