Kai Trump Breaks Silence on Vanessa’s Role in His Golf Career as Tiger Woods Remains in the Picture

Kai Trump has admitted that it was actually her mother, Vanessa Trump, who got her into golf while she was a child – despite having no interest in the sport herself and now being in a relationship with Tiger Woods.

Vanessa is the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., with the pair raising five children, including Kai. They had been married for 13 years before divorcing in 2018, but they remain on good terms amid Donald Trump’s presidency runs.

Now, Vanessa is in a relationship with Woods. The legendary golf star began playing golf with Kai, 18, who hopes to go professional.

Speaking on her early golfing days, Kai admitted Vanessa had the biggest impact in getting her to play young.

While on the AJGA show on Instagram, Kai said: “I started playing golf when I was two years old and my mom actually got me into it. She doesn’t play golf, that’s the thing. – she plays tennis.

“I used to play tennis as well. But she’d also practice golf with me, she’d roll the balls to me and I would putt them.”

She would go on to mention Woods as the biggest influence on her career, even before the PGA Tour legend got involved with her mother, Vanessa.

Kai added: “I would say a lot of the pros, obviously, like looking up to them and watching them. Obviously, Tiger [Woods], Rory [McIlroy]. Like watching those guys, especially at such a young age, and now I get to know them. It has been really cool, and that obviously kind of influenced me. But also, I’d say like my mom, I wouldn’t be playing golf without her.”

Kai is set to enroll at the University of Miami in 2026. There, she will continue her golf career and aim to play professionally when she graduates.

When asked how she’ll continue to improve, Kai said: “Just playing a lot of events, just gaining experience.

“But also practice. If I have two hours, I’m not gonna hit a few balls, go on my phone and scroll. No, I’m going to take full-on advantage with the time I have on the course.

“I think that’s going to get me to the next level for sure, as well as just training in the gym, getting stronger and playing more rounds.

Those that stayed witnessed a 16-year-old exhibit the quiet confidence, leveled ball-striking and putting of an elite level player and master of a course that only two days ago had stumped him and left him in 43rd place after the first round of the Junior PGA Championship.

Charlie Woods second shot on the 18th hole par 4 dropped firmly onto the green before he calmly putted for birdie to finish -12, placing him in second place and in the hunt for the final round on Friday.

“My round was pretty up and down and it gave me a heart attack out there,” Woods said. “But nine birdies is pretty good. A couple of three putts, I made a few mistakes today but overall pretty solid round. Pretty good position going into tomorrow.”

Woods will tee off at 10:06 a.m. tomorrow joined by leader Lunden Esterline (-19) and Pennson Badget (-12) in the Junior PGA Championship final round.

Woods was in control of the Ackerman-Allen Golf Course in West Lafayette during his second time around, even after his tee time was delayed two hours because of rainstorms and soggy conditions.

Woods birdied the first hole and would stay steady throughout the round, exhibiting zero timidness after having missed the cut at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship last month in Dallas.

The best shot of the night for Woods came on the 10th hole, spotting an iron shot two feet for a tap in birdie before outdoing himself with his finale on 18.

As he walked to finish his birdie putt, The Clubhouse Bar & Grill at Birck Boilermaker Complex was lined with fans celebrating Woods success.

Woods would prove to doubters, if there were any, that he could hold his own on the big stage just over a week after being cut in the U.S. Amateur Championship in Dallas.

While the final result wasn’t what Woods had desired on Friday, it still sends a message that golf’s famous teenager could play the sport at an elite level.

Woods finished the Junior PGA Championship 9-under-par and tied for ninth after shooting a 74 on Friday afternoon.

His top nine finish gives him an automatic invite to next year’s Junior PGA Tournament at Fields Range in Frisco, Texas.

Woods also has a chance to be a captain’s pick for the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team which will be announced Tuesday.

While Woods wasn’t made available for media post match on Friday, there were plenty of compliments shared in his direction about his game by 2025 Junior PGA Championship winner Lunden Esterline.

“I had fun playing with him and Pennson (Badgett),” Esterline said. “They were both good guys.”

Three bogies and a double bogey on 15 ultimately hampered the 16-year-old from Jupiter, Florida.

His putting didn’t carry the same sharpness on the greens at Ackerman-Allen Course where he’d birdied nine times the day before.

Woods faced an uphill battle entering Friday tied at -12 against Esterline who was -19.

Winning the Junior PGA Championship was feasible for Woods but he needed to replicate his performance from Thursday to catch Esterline.

Even with his late round troubles, Woods proved he is a top tier amateur golfer.

1:15 p.m. — Woods picks up a birdie on No. 12. He has plenty more work to do in the last six holes, but it’s a positive step.

12:53 p.m. — Woods opens the back frame with a bogey on No. 10. He is still at 12-under and in sole possession of sixth place on the leaderboard. Second place has moved to 16-under.

12:27 p.m. — Woods bogeyed the ninth hole. He drops into a tie for sixth place heading into the back nine. The leader is at 20-under, and second place is at 15-under. Woods has work to do on the final nine of the tournament.

12:11 p.m. — Woods saved par on No. 8 with an impressive shot out of the trees. He is still tied for fourth at 13-under.

11:45 a.m. — Woods picked up a much-needed birdie on the fifth hole, his first of the day.

11:17 a.m. — Unfortunately for Woods, he has notched four pars in a row. While it is good that he is staying steady, he has now dropped into a tie for fourth place and will need to get some birdies to have a shot at staying in the top two.

“It was so much fun,” Woods said of his third round, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier. “I had a pretty fun chip on 16, but I just enjoyed being out there, having fun and hopefully I have a good chance of winning tomorrow.”

Woods endured a mixed round Thursday. He had three runs of back-to-back birdies and made nine birdies altogether, but he mixed in four bogeys.

“My round was pretty up and down, and it gave me a heart attack out there,” Woods said, per the Journal & Courier. “But nine birdies is pretty good. A couple of three-putts, I made a few mistakes today but overall pretty solid round. Pretty good position going into tomorrow.”

A rising junior at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, Woods won the AJGA’s Team TaylorMade Invitational in May. He missed the cut at the recent U.S. Junior Amateur. He has not yet made a college commitment.

Lunden Esterline leads the Junior PGA at 19 under after carding a third-round 66. Esterline, from Andover, Kansas, is a 2027 Auburn commit.

Charlie was six-under for his round, which saw him climb his way up into tied-fourth at seven-under for the tournament – six shots back of leader Lunden Esterline from Kansas.

After opening with a birdie at the par-four first, Charlie immediately dropped the shot at the second. However, he didn’t card another bogey until the 16th, followed swiftly by another at the 17th.

He sank an astonishing nine birdies across the course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in Indiana.

His explosive display was reminiscent of his 15-time major winning dad, who surprisingly failed to ever win the tournament.

In 1990, the golfing icon finished runner-up to Fort Lauderdale’s Chris Couch at the Junior PGA Championship.

The impressive round all but guarantees to see Charlie through to the final two rounds of the championship, which comes as an encouraging bounceback after he missed the cut last week.

With dad Tiger watching on, Charlie struggled at the US Junior Amateur. Despite a rallying effort during the second round, his comeback fell short, leaving him to miss the cut.

Playing at Trinity Forest Golf Club and Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas, Charlie had a rough first day at the tournament but hoped to bounce back in the second round.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen as Charlie’s 11-over first round and 3-over second round led to him missing the cut by a massive 12-stroke margin.

He had tried to muster a bounce-back during round two, playing the first nine in an even-par 36, and had the chance to finish under par after the back nine.

However, he bogeyed the 17th hole and then double-bogeyed the final hole to arrive at his 3-over 74.

t meant that Charlie will not be able to match the result that his father accomplished back in 1991 – when Tiger became the youngest US Junior Amateur champion at the time. Tiger also won the Junior Amateur in 1992 and 1993.

Charlie played in the tournament last year and suffered a similar fate – carding rounds of 82 and 80 at Oakland Hills in 2024.
