Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Rematch Faces Delay as Promoters Eye Two New Target Dates
Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach’s rematch is set to be rescheduled again. Promoter PBC were hoping to stage the sequel on August 16 in Las Vegas.
However, the bout is now expected to be pushed back by one to two weeks.
According to Ring Magazine, organisers are now targeting August 23 or August 30 in Sin City.
Davis was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend on June 15 in Florida.
But the date looked doubtful even before then.
PBC hadn’t officially announced August 16, nor had they confirmed the undercard, although it was widely reported that they intended to stage the event on that day.

Remarkably, this isn’t the first time the bout has been delayed.
The initial plan was to hold the fight on June 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Davis and Roach boxed to a heavily disputed majority draw last March after the challenger was wrongfully denied a knockdown in round nine.
WBA lightweight champion Davis took a knee having just absorbed a grazing jab before making his way over to his corner to have debris wiped from his eye.
However, the third man in the ring initially administered a count before breaking it off.
Willis’ mishap cost Roach the win, with two judges scoring the fight 114-114 even while the third gave it to Davis by a margin of 115-113.

Team Roach went to lodge an appeal with the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) to have the draw overturned.
But the NYSAC upheld the result because “the bout continued for more than three full rounds after the referee’s no knockdown call, and because the boxers necessarily adjusted to the referee’s ruling, the referee’s call was not outcome-determinative.”
The commission did go on to admit, though, that “following an extensive after-the-fact review of the footage of the ninth round, that the most appropriate call would have been for the referee to determine that Mr. Davis’ knee contacting the canvas constituted a knockdown.
