Charlie Woods’ hopes of making United States Junior Ryder Cup team aren’t completely lost despite coming up short of an automatic last week at the 49th Junior PGA Championships

Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 74 (3-over) in the final round on Aug. 1 in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He enjoyed a strong week overall in finishing the tournament 9-under and tied for ninth overall, though he started the final round tied for second and holding an automatic Junior Ryder bid.

The winner and runner-up from the Junior PGA Championships were each guaranteed a place on the team as long as they were eligible. Tournament winner Lunden Esterline and Royal Palm Beach’s Giuseppe Puebla nabbed the automatic bids.

49th Junior PGA Championships: How did Charlie Woods fare in the final round?

Esterline and Puebla have already joined Hamilton Coleman (U.S. Junior Amateur champion), Miles Russell (No. 1 in qualifying points) and Tyler Mawhinney (No. 2 in qualifying points) to take five of the six available roster spots.

A sixth and final roster post will be a captain’s choice at the discretion of Suzy Whaley, a PGA of America Hall of Famer who calls Palm Beach Gardens home. The deadline for the pick is Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Romine pointed out that Woods could be picked as a captain’s selection to help raise awareness of the event.

“Woods is ranked 879thin WAGR, though he contended at Junior PGA before final-round 74 knocked him to T-9. Picking Charlie would increase the exposure of the event and ensure that Tiger Woods is at least at the early-week festivities at Bethpage.”

The 13th Junior Ryder Cup will be contested from Sept. 23-25, 2025 at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York.

Bold Prediction Sends Shockwaves Through Golf World As Tiger Woods’ Former Coach Breaks Silence on Charlie Woods

Charlie Woods made headlines a few days ago for his not-so-great performance at one of the junior tournaments. However, the 16-year-old does not stop to attract media attention, no matter how dominant he is or not.

From the earliest days, the media looked for similarities between Charlie and Tiger, although it was too early to make any judgments. It seems that it is still too early to draw a parallel between the icon of golf and his son, who has yet to start treading paths filled with thorns.

In his tweet, Haney had words of praise for Charlie’s swing, writing: “That’s a great golf swing”, while sharing a video of the young golfer.

Words like these can be a strong motive for a boy who is under constant pressure and public expectations.

Charlie is aware that he will have a much tougher job, as his father’s dominance gives fans the right to expect his dominance in the future.

Tiger Woods has emphasized several times that there is no need to put pressure on a boy who has yet to prove himself, admitting that it doesn’t matter to him whether Charlie follows his path or has other passions.

It seems the 16-year-old has the same hunger for golf as his father, and having such an important mentor on his path to stardom could be a double-edged sword.

Full Heartwarming Tiger Woods Moment With Son Charlie Woods Is Turning Heads

Charlie Woods continues to build his presence in the golf world. The 16-year-old competed this week in the 47th Junior North & South Amateur at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

On hand to support him was his father, golf legend Tiger Woods. During one stretch, Charlie drained a long putt, giving him four birdies in five holes. After sinking it, he turned to Tiger and joked, “I don’t want to hear it,” referring to his dad’s course-side critiques. Tiger laughed and replied, “Good putt,” and the two shared a moment of laughter.

That interaction quickly caught fans’ attention. NUCLR GOLF on X posted the following exchange: “Tiger and Charlie shared a laugh after he drained a long bomb for birdie.”

The exchange lit up social media, with fans weighing in on the father-son bond and Charlie’s growing game.

Still, the overall mood was celebratory. Tiger and Charlie were last seen in the spotlight together at the PNC Championship, and their shared joy at Pinehurst added to the growing list of viral Woods family moments.

Charlie held his own at the event, finishing just outside the top 10 with a final-round 1-under 71. He shot 72 on both Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 8 in the first two rounds. Davis Wotnosky took home the title at 10-under par.

As for Tiger, the 15-time major champion is now 49 years old and hasn’t won a major since 2019. He has yet to play in a PGA Tour event in 2025, after making five appearances in 2024.

Like Father Like Son, Tiger Woods’ Son Posts Another Strong Finish Shows Up Dad

The 2025 season continues to go from strength to strength for Charlie Woods, who just completed another strong performance in the junior division. It’s also excellent news that his legendary father, Tiger Woods, was following him throughout the event

Woods competed between June 30 and July 2 in the Junior North & South Amateur. This is the 47th edition of the prestigious tournament hosted by Pinehurst Resort & Country Club, competing both boys and girls.

Charlie finished with a 54-hole score of 1-over that earned him a tie for 12th in a field that began with 94 players.

The younger Woods improved throughout the tournament, starting with a 2-over 72 opening round on Pinehurst No. 2. Charlie carded four birdies and six bogeys on this day.

A day later, it was time to play Pinehurst No. 8, and Charlie fared much better, with his only major complication being a double bogey on the 10th hole. He added three birdies and a bogey to his card for an even-par 72 for the round.

The final round was also played on Pinehurst No. 8. Charlie started poorly, bogeying his first three holes and adding another bogey on the 8th and a birdie on the 6th to make the turn at 3-over for the day and five over for the week.

However, he managed to find his best golf of the tournament on the back nine, where he carded five birdies and a bogey, finishing the round at 1-under and bringing his tournament score to 1-over.

Tiger Woods Seen Following Charlie

A video circulating on social media shows Charlie exchanging words with Tiger Woods after making one of his back nine birdies. Tiger can be seen riding in a golf cart, with no details of his current health being revealed.

However, the mere fact that the 15-time major champion is following his son around a golf tournament can undoubtedly be interpreted as a good sign. As you may recall, Tiger also followed Charlie around during the Florida Amateur Championship just a few weeks ago.

These have been the clearest signs of Tiger Woods’ recovery since injuring his Achilles tendon last March.

The Junior North & South Amateur is not sanctioned by the American Junior Golf Association, so Charlie won’t be able to improve his current ranking (14th). However, the result at Pinehurst definitely continues his streak of strong results, led by his victory at the TaylorMade Junior Invitational last May.
