A major decision looms for Anthony Joshua as he weighs up his next opponent and the venue for his upcoming bout.

Anthony Joshua must decide soon whether or not to return to the ring and who to fight and where The fighter has not boxed since he lost to Daniel Dubois at Wembley over a year ago

According to Frank Smith, CEO of Matchroom, the next move in Anthony Joshua’s career will be decided soon. “I think with AJ, he’s had time out of the ring, the longest period he’s been out of the ring. I think he needed it. He hasn’t stopped for 12, 13 years since he turned pro.”

“For him, I think it’s been perfect just to have some time away to focus on himself while he comes back for what is probably the most important part of his career so far and the most important decision he’ll make,” Frank Smith.

There has been speculation about the heavyweight’s return, with several opportunities, including Jake Paul, Tyson Fury and a fight in Ghana, being discussed. A fight against Fury is thought to take place later in 2026.

“There has been a lot of talk about offers in Ghana. I have gone to Ghana to meet with those guys and about organizing a show there, I went to the stadium in Accra,” Smith added. “It would be sensational to do an event there, like an event that would never be forgotten. Obviously, there are the big fights against someone like Tyson Fury, which we all want to see.

“And I think, look, I see that happening. I saw Frank Warren talk about it as well. Tyson Fury talking about a comeback, which is great. So I think that’s a fight we’ll see in 2026. What’s next? Let’s see. Let’s see how things go over the next week or two. I think if he’s going to come out this year, he’d have to make a decision very soon, if not early next year. But I’m sure we’ll see AJ back in the best shape of his life. He needs to be 100 percent when he gets back into this.”

The idea of staging fights in Accra, having seen it, appeals to Smith now more than ever, and if Matchroom promotes there, it might not just be for Joshua. “It’s one of those moments. Look, we’ve been lucky, and I’ve personally been lucky, to work on some incredible events over the last 16, 17 years, and moments that I’ll never forget

But walking through that stadium and also seeing an event they had done previously on a much smaller scale, thinking about 60,000 people in this stadium, in the atmosphere they would create, is one of those moments that you think would last forever, that memory. It’s not something that a year later you say: ‘do you remember?’ It would be something you would talk about for 10, 20, 30, 40 years. So it’s something I’m very interested in making happen. Obviously, it has to make sense, you know, overall. So we’ll see. But I’m very confident that very soon we’ll be doing events in Ghana with the Legacy team, whether it’s with AJ or someone else.

Smith believes AJ’s waters will become much clearer over the next week or 10 days. With Matchroom ready to reveal a batch of dates to close out the year, more pieces will be falling into place elsewhere. But Smith does not believe that the rematch between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington is something that is on the agenda. Despite the two fighters still throwing darts at each other on social media, a return of their thrilling fight is not something immediate

Terence Crawford

There are a lot of important conversations for next year’s events,” Smith said. “I think Leigh Wood will take another fight. We pushed for that fight. Obviously, the [Michael] Conlan fight could also be interesting. The Josh Padley fight could also be interesting for Josh Warrington. Great, great fight in Yorkshire. So, you know, a lot of options there, but the plan for Josh is to get back in the ring in January. Leigh Wood, very unlikely now.”

And the return of heavyweight Johnny Fisher will be on the Monte Carlo card on December 6, an event that Smith said: “I think it’s the best card we’ve done there

“Gervonta Davis’ Trainer Reveals His Biggest Worry Ahead of the Jake Paul Showdown”

Gervonta Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford has concerns over one particular rule ahead of ‘Tank’s’ showdown with Jake Paul.

The two stars are set to go head-to-head in an exhibition dust-up at the Kaseya Center in Florida on November 14. With just over a month to go until the controversial clash, there has already been some pre-fight drama after the event was relocated from Georgia after the commission objected to the monumental weight disparity between the two fighters.

Following confirmation of the fight, many fans were left wondering about the rules of the contest. Their clash will be an exhibition bout, over 10, 3-minute rounds, as revealed by MVP chief Nakisa Bidarian. “There will be a victor because the fighters have agreed and the commission has approved a maximum weight of 195lbs for this exhibition. The fight will be contested over 10 three-minute rounds, and when Tank and Jake enter the squared circle to go to battle, they will be wearing 12oz gloves,” said Bidarian.

“Sitting ringside will be three commission-approved world-class professional judges that will score every round to ensure there’s a decisive outcome for the fight if it goes the distance. And both men are enrolled in the highest level of testing with USADA.”

Gervonta Davis

Paul is predominately a cruiserweight (200lbs) – despite moving up to heavyweight for his win over Mike Tyson last November. As for Davis, the American has fought at lightweight (135lbs) throughout the majority of his career so far.

Despite the huge weight disparity and the 195lb limit on fight night, Ford is more aggrieved with the fact that both Paul and Davis will be wearing 12oz gloves on fight night. “I said the fight was doable because I watched Tank for years and watched other young men in gyms deal with big guys,” Ford told Fight Hub TV.

“Yes, he’s big. To me it’s like Jake having his first open fights, if anyone knows about the amateurs. My only concern is the gloves because we don’t fight in 12 oz gloves, we don’t use 12 oz gloves, that’s training gloves. So my thing is, ‘Put Tank in eights, put (Jake) in tens.’

“That makes the fight more interesting, and we’ll go from there. And I brought that up to one of his handlers, and they say, ‘No, we don’t want to do no mix and match.’ It’s supposed to be an exhibition…He can wear the tens and we wear the eights, then we got a fight.”

During a launch press-conference last month, Paul vowed to score a statement finish in November. “I haven’t got a knockout in a long time, so I’m itching. I’m just excited to be able to deliver that for the fans and have another most viral knockouts ever,” he said.

Terence Crawford

Davis himself was quick to offer his take on how the fight will potentially play out. “I’m much quicker than him. He’s much stronger and much bigger, but we all know that it’s harder for taller fighters to fight a shorter one,” he said. “He’s decent and he’s gonna hold up for a couple of rounds – but once it gets hot in there, you know how things play out.”

“Tension Builds After Anthony Joshua Reportedly Agrees to a 2026 Blockbuster Showdown with the Russian Giant”

A fresh challenger has entered the sweepstakes to take on Anthony Joshua in his boxing return.

Anthony Joshua: Drawing notable links to a host of potential fights in his return to action as soon as next year, former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is targeted to fight in a historic trip to Africa next.

And with a laundry list of contenders lining up to welcome Joshua back to the ring for the first time in over a year, the Watford native has been encouraged to spoil the comeback of Oleksandr Usyk first and foremost.

However, putting a potential showdown with Tyson Fury on the line, Joshua has been issued a challenge by a towering Russian star — who claims he’s already agreed to fight the Olympian next year.

Arslanbek Makhmudov reveals agreement to face Anthony Joshua

Tasked with knocking back the British veteran Dave Allen in a headliner this weekend in Sheffield, 6ft 5in heavyweight talent Arslanbek Makhmudov has entered the sweepstakes to take on Joshua.

Anthony Joshua

Towering over his Doncaster rival ahead of their pairing, Makhmudov and Allen are tipped to land a massive clash with another former world champion, whoever emerges with a win in their pivotal clash.

However, in another twist in the tale of Joshua’s return, Makhmudov has claimed he has already been broached a fight with the Watford star — a pairing he has agreed to take if he prevails with a win over Allen.

“Yeah, we just spoke a little bit on Instagram,” Makhmudov said of a fight with Joshua during an interview with Boxing News. “Just friendly, you know. And I offered him as a next fight, he said, ‘Okay, next year then. Next year we can do it.’

“For me, the fight is interesting because it’s a good opportunity,” Makhmudov explained. “And in sport, because we had a bit of a story in the amateurs. He lost to guys in the European championship and the world championship — I beat these two guys. For me, it’s interesting.”

Anthony Joshua called out for Nigeria clash against ex-sparring partner

Anthony Joshua

And while agreeing to fight Makhmudov — albeit during a text message exchange — Joshua continues to find himself linked to another pairing with a familiar name from his past.

Targeting an early 2026 return to the ring in a historic trip to Africa, Joshua was first tied to a showdown in Ghana; however, in recent days, an event featuring the former world champion closer to his roots in Nigeria has been floated.

And former training partner of Joshua, Congolese heavyweight star Martin Bakole has expressed his interest in fighting his ex-sparring rival, having rebounded from his thudding loss to Joseph Parker.

“Retired British boxer with 3 stoppage losses boldly claims he would have defeated Terence Crawford”

It is almost a month since Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez, but the manner of the victory means that Crawford’s reputation is constantly being enhanced.

On September 13, Crawford defied the odds to deliver the best performance of his career as he outpointed the Mexican icon in Las Vegas .

Success brought Crawford the undisputed crown at super-middleweight and now fight fans are awaiting what the Nebraska man will do next

Options exist in various weight-classes, but one former world champion at 168lbs believes he would have had what it takes to beat Crawford if their paths ever crossed.

George Groves briefly ruled the world when he was WBA champion at the backend of his professional career.

Terence Crawford

The London man made two successful defences, including a win over Chris Eubank Jr, before he was stopped by Callum Smith in 2018.

Smith became the second man to beat Groves within the distance following on from Carl Froch who halted Groves twice.

Despite some defensive shortcomings at the highest level, Groves is insistent he would have had too much size for Crawford.

“I highly admire Crawford, but surely he wouldn’t have beaten me? I would have done him,” said Groves when speaking to Poker Strategy .

“I’m sure he’d back himself too. I think he’d have a problem with the bigger super middleweights.”

“‘He’s a Damn Killer!’ Terence Crawford Urged to Avoid World Champion – Brutal Knockout Artist Chilling Warning Message That Has Terence Crawford on Notice”

Terence Crawford currently stands as the face of boxing. After showing his class with a unanimous decision victory over Mexican legend Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in September, ‘Bud’ is now the biggest pull in the sport.

But where does he go after his success in the ‘Fight of the Century’? Does he run it back with Canelo? Perhaps he goes after Gennady Golovkin, who spoke recently about his temptation to return to the ring after a quiet few years.

Another name in the conversation is Sebastian Fundora, but it is our understanding that Crawford isn’t looking to move back down to 154 pounds. However, if the American chooses to move up to Crawford’s weight, a meeting could be on the cards.

Elsewhere, some boxing fans were throwing the name of Dmitry Bivol out there, claiming Crawford could beat him as well, to which former boxer Tony Bellew disagreed.

One name that the undisputed super middleweight world champion has been told to avoid is Janibek Alimkhanuly. Tim Bradley – a former light welterweight and welterweight champion – took to YouTube to warn Crawford about a future match-up against the unbeaten Kazakh. Even calling the 32-year-old a ‘damn killer.’

Anthony Joshua

Bradley was straight in his opinions on Alimkhanuly: “Janibek ain’t no joke. Oh, no. That is a tough fight for Terence Crawford. I love me some Crawford, man, y’all know what time it is, but I gotta call a spade a damn spade. Janibek ain’t nothing to mess with. He cold. Southpaw.”

Alimkhanuly is not the biggest name in boxing. In fact, he isn’t even the biggest name in Kazakhstan boxing, thanks in part to the aforementioned Golovkin, and Bradley makes a point of this: “You ain’t know much about him? That’s fine, you ain’t gotta know much about him.

RELATED NEWS : Yes Not For Me ’I ll Never Step Into the Ring with Terence

I’m here to tell you – speed, power, size, defence, offence, footwork, angle. Dude is cold, man. He’s a damn killer. If Crawford goes down and faces that dude, his legacy… It may not be a marquee name… everybody going to be tuning in to see the greatness of Terence Crawford… and I’m here to tell you, Janibek ain’t here to be messed with.”

Terence Crawford

Alimkhanuly last fought in April, when he defended his WBO and IBF world middleweight titles against Anauel Ngamissengue. Over the past few days, speculation has been rife regarding Janibek’s next opponent, with WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara the favourite. A chance to win three middleweight titles and become king of the division should be enough to make this fight happen. However, if Terence Crawford comes calling, Alimkhanuly would surely jump at the chance to face the biggest name in boxing.

Yes Not For Me ’I ll Never Step Into the Ring with Terence Crawford David Benavidez Reveals the Real Reasons

Terence Crawford : It didn’t take the boxing world long to start thinking about who Terence “Bud” Crawford would fight next after he defeated Canelo Alvarez and took his undisputed super middleweight belts on September 13.

In fact, Turki Alalshikh, who was in charge of getting Crawford and Canelo to face off in the first place (and footed the bout’s bill), wasted no time making an X post hinting at who he’d like to see Crawford fight next just moments after he got his hand raised against Canelo.

“Can David Benavidez still make 168 pounds?” Alalshikh wrote in the X post, which amassed over 1.2 million views on the platform.

Of course, David Benavidez is the reigning WBA light heavyweight champion and was the WBC super middleweight champion from 2019 to 2020. He currently boasts an undefeated 30-0 record with 24 KOs, is one of the most terrifying punchers in the sport, and tried to fight Canelo for years.

However, Canelo repeatedly made it clear that he has no interest in fighting Benavidez, which has started a narrative that Canelo was ducking him.

David Benavidez Explains Why He Won’t Fight Terence Crawford

Despite Alalshikh’s desire, Crawford vs. Benavidez isn’t looking likely. And Benavidez (who is now fighting at 174 pounds) explained why he doesn’t intend to fight Crawford during an October 6 interview with Fight Hub TV

“I’m done with [super middleweight],” Benavidez said. “I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Crawford. He put on a h*** of a performance. He’s up there with the Mount Rushmore of the greatest fighters of all time. Let Crawford do his thing, bro. At the end of the day, I have no interest in fighting Crawford. I have no interest in fighting at 168.”

He then added, “I wouldn’t even go to 168 for Canelo, and I’m just being real with you. Let Crawford do his thing, let him have his. I have to give him his flowers, man, because he’s a great fighter… I have no interest in going to 168. I’m not saying I’m scared of Crawford, or whatever. But Crawford is the man at 168. That’s his weight class. I’m done at 168.”

Terence Crawford

When asked whether he would go down to fight Crawford at 168 pounds if he was given $120 million, he said, “I mean, $120 million sounds good. But honestly, at the end of the day, no. They won’t give $120 million. I don’t think Canelo got $120 million to fight Crawford… No, man. I’m done at 168. They can throw whatever money they want at me.”

Props to Benavidez for being a man of principle. But one would imagine he’d at least consider a final fight at super middleweight if he were offered $120 million.

“It’ll Take Something Crazy”: Terence Crawford’s Team Demands Unbelievable Purse for Return After Canelo Showdown

Bernie Davis, a coach of Terence Crawford, believes it could take $100 million to lure the newly crowned champion back into the ring.

Crawford scored the best victory of his career last time out as he was crowned undisputed super-middleweight champion with a stunning victory over Canelo Alvarez.

Prior to the bout, ‘Bud’ had declared it could be his last fight if he won, which he did so in spectacular fashion to make boxing history.

The 38-year-old is coming to the twilight years of his career, and is running out of challenges after securing world titles in a fifth weight class.

But he has hinted he could continue in the ring and fight in the 160lbs division in a bid to try and collect more belts.

But his coach Davis, doesn’t expect it to be easy to bring him back, particularly given the fights on offer.

“I think Crawford is done,” he said.

“If it ain’t $100 million to go down and fight those guys [Janibek Alimkhanuly, Erislandy Lara, and Carlos Adames] and let them guys do all the hard work.

Anthony Joshua

“Let them collect the belts, and then we fight for undisputed. That’s it. Other than that, I don’t see Crawford fighting no more. There’s no need.

“Crawford don’t need to do no more. He’s done everything that there is to do.

“Unless they want to give him a 100 million, make a big spectacle, and put the belts on the line. That’s the only way I can see that.

“100 million no less. Not 75, not 90, 100. It’s got to be 100 million. If it’s not 100 million, then what is he doing it for?

“He ain’t going for nothing. Who can turn down 100 million? Who can turn down 80?”

Crawford has yet to fully sit and consider his next move following his record-breaking efforts.

‘Bud’ returned home to Omaha, Nebraska and received a hero’s welcome.

Now he is taking time away from the sport to rest and spend with his family.

But, Crawford had a surprise meeting with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh who bankrolled the mega-fight.

And he teased that a return could well be imminent, albeit he has again yet to commit to any official talks.

“‘One of the Greatest Ever’ – A Surprising Name Delivers Powerful Praise for Terence Crawford… Bozy Ennis”

Terence Crawford: From the beginning, Derek “Bozy” Ennis was a fan of Terence Crawford. But following the pound-for-pound king’s latest accomplishment, his level of admiration only increased.
Viewed as a slight underdog heading into his September 13 showdown against Canelo Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) proved that fighting at 168 pounds was no big deal.
For 36 minutes, Ennis watched closely as the Omaha, Nebraska, native boxed, moved, and grooved his way to a decision. Now, after becoming the first male undisputed champion in three separate divisions, Ennis believes that Crawford has solidified himself among the sport’s best.
“Terence can fight, and he can box,” Ennis told YSM Sports Media. “He takes chances. That’s how you be great. I think he’s great. He’s one of the greatest ever.”
Ennis was hoping to get Crawford to fight his son, former unified welterweight champ-turned-junior middleweight contender Jaron Ennis. However, at this stage, that appears to be a pipe dream.
Terence Crawford
For now, his son will focus on Uisma Lima, his upcoming opponent, while Crawford attempts to figure out his next move.
But before Crawford officially closes the door on his brief rivalry with Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs), the elder Ennis continues to replay that historic September night in his mind. He can’t say enough about Crawford’s sublime performance.
“He won mostly every round,” Ennis said. “You can give Canelo two rounds, but nothing more than that. Terence is great.”

Tyson Fury furious battle against Francis Ngannou could push Oleksandr Usyk fight back

A bloodied and bruised Tyson Fury may need more time to recover for his fight against Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury: What seemed a total mismatch on paper between the unbeaten WBC champion and a mixed martial artist making his professional boxing debut in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, almost went awry for Fury.

Tyson Fury was expected to toy with the former UFC heavyweight champion but instead endured a torrid night, receiving a small cut on his forehead before being knocked down in the third round.

Fury rose almost straight away but was clearly unnerved by an awkward opponent whose style he could not quite get to grips with, relying on his jab and the odd combination to get by over the 10 rounds.

Ngannou produced the flashier blows, leading to an outcry on social media when Fury was awarded a split decision win, given the nod 96-93 and 95-94 on two scorecards as a third judge sided against him 95-94.

The fight was rumoured to be the preamble to the announcement of Fury taking on Usyk just before Christmas and the WBA, IBF and WBO champion was ringside as he engaged in a staredown with the Briton.

While Fury, who was also left with a swollen left eye, was animated, there was an overall flat feeling after he had his hand raised and his promoter Frank Warren issued a more sobering appraisal.

Tyson fury

“Tyson’s got a cut there so it’s no good setting a date whilst he’s got that cut on the top of his head – we’ve got to see how that heals,” Warren said in the ring afterwards.

“He’s going to rest up, that’s what’s going to happen next then he’ll make his decision (about) what he wants to do because he’s the boss. But this fight is on. It’s just a matter of now setting a date.”

There was no celebratory press conference following the fight after Fury (now 34-0-1, 24KOs) admitted he had been given one of the toughest tests of his career by the former UFC heavyweight champion.

However, he told Usyk in the ring: “I’m a fighter, he’s a fighter, I’m sure we’d go now. We’re prizefighters, let’s go now if you want. These guys (promoters) will sort it all out and it’ll be on.”

Usyk, a London 2012 gold medallist and former undisputed world cruiserweight champion who has won all 21 of his professional contests, said: “We’re back in this ring on 23 December, I’m ready to fight.”

Fury had likened Ngannou’s chances in the non-title bout to that of a table tennis champion facing Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final – and his words came back to bite him post-fight.

Ngannou, 37, who had not fought in any capacity since January 2022 and had reconstructive knee surgery in that time, said pointedly on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Table Tennis champion of the world.”

The Cameroonian-Frenchman also took aim at the scorecards, adding: “This boxing world wild but some judges should be responsible for their actions. This type of stuff is what f**** up people’s career.”

Anthony Joshua

Ngannou also shared the thoughts of American basketball great LeBron James, who wrote: “Exactly why i don’t watch boxing! C’mon man!”. Former England striker Gary Lineker added: “We’ve just seen a robbery.”

Andy Murray, former world number one tennis player, believes boxing has suffered a setback following Fury’s hugely unconvincing showing in this crossover event.

He wrote: “How many points would the world no1 squash player win vs the world number 1 tennis player in a tennis match and vice versa? Im thinking close to zero for both….bad look for boxing.”

Lennox Lewis, the last heavyweight to be undisputed champion before the four-belt era, was among the boxing royalty ringside and was similarly unimpressed by Fury.

He said: “The lion can’t let the shark come into the jungle and nearly beat him. Ngannou’s stock is up. Fury’s stock is down in a luckluster win for Fury.”

Tyson Fury: “Closer Than Ever,” Eddie Hearn Reveals in Mysterious Update — Tyson Fury’s Ultimate Rival Might Be Anthony Joshua.

Eddie Hearn has revealed that he and Anthony Joshua are focussing on a deal for him to finally face Tyson Fury next summer after positive talks with Turki Alalshikh.
Hearn posted a picture alongside the chairman of the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority and head of Riyadh Season after lengthy discussions in Riyadh, which he says took in a number of sports as well as boxing.
But, when asked about the meeting by The Ring’s Louis Hart, the Matchroom chairman said that the long-awaited heavyweight battle of Britain between Joshua and Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) was high on the agenda.
“He wants to make AJ against Fury, that’s no secret,” Hearn said of Alalshikh. “He wants to make the biggest fights in the sport and that is the biggest fight in boxing right now. We’ve got to agree our end and then it’s up to Turki whether he can get Fury in the ring.
“The best thing about these situations now is that it’s not me speaking to Frank Warren or Spencer Brown or Tyson Fury trying to do a deal. We just have to do our deal and if Turki can make the fight then it’s on. If he can’t, it’s not on.

“We are focussing on that side. We have a plan for AJ to get him back in the ring as soon as possible and then lead up to a huge fight against Tyson Fury in 2026. We will do our deal with Turki and he will try and do his deal with Tyson Fury. Fingers crossed we can make it happen.”
Anthony JoshuaJoshua recently dropped out of The Ring’s heavyweight rankings following a year of inactivity since his crushing fifth-round defeat to Daniel Dubois in September last year.
With Oleksandr Usyk as Ring Magazine champion, Fury remains No. 1 in the rankings despite announcing his retirement because his second fight with the Ukrainian icon took place in December.
Fury, 37, has reaffirmed his commitment to staying retired on many occasions, but Hearn has always remained steadfast in his belief that the Gypsy King could be tempted back with a lucrative offer to fight Joshua.
Regardless of what Fury chooses to do, two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) is planning his return to boxing. As reported by The Ring this week, Hearn has suggested he could still box before the end of the year, if not early in 2026.

When asked whether he expects the Londoner to retain Ben Davison as his coach after three fights alongside him, Hearn said: “I expect so. He has been training with various different people. He’s got a great relationship with Ben and he knows Ben is No. 1 a very good coach and No. 2 from a research point of view maybe second to none in the sport.
“Right now he’s getting himself ready physically to do the hard part of camp, the sparring and that solid 8-10 week period and that’s imminent really. We’d like him to return this year.”
