Gervonta Davis has just 15 days to make fight with undefeated rival or risk losing world title

Gervonta Davis’ most recent legal trouble seems to be impacting his return to boxing and may see him lose his world title entirely.

‘Tank’ last fought in March of 2025, retaining his WBA lightweight world title via a controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. An exhibition fight with Jake Paul later in the year was cancelled when he was accused of domestic violence

In January, the sanctioning body named Davis ‘champion in recess’ and looked set to order a vacant title bout between Floyd Schoefild and Lucas Bahdi, but instead, as talk of the Baltimore champion’s return began to heat up, ordered him to face Schofield instead.

Speaking to Mill City Boxing recently, Schofield’s father and trainer said that talks are not currently ongoing, perhaps due to Davis’ fresh legal situation, and that he and his son are waiting for the negotiation period to end for the WBA to make a decision.

“We can’t do anything until the WBA says. [We’re] supposed to be in negotiations for another 20 days with Tank’s people, but according to what the lawyers say, they can’t be in negotiations right now. So, [we’re] in limbo for 20 more days while they got that mandate up. Tank’s people got to make a fight with us within 20 days.”

Gervonta Davis

From Schofield’s update, Davis’ grip on the WBA title appears increasingly uncertain, with the sanctioning body potentially forced to make a decision if the teams fail to make progress. The allotted negotiation period ends on June 22, at which point purse bids could be called, though only if ‘Tank’ is willing and able to defend his belt.

Schofield is undefeated in 19 bouts and, at 23 years old, has a bright future in the sport. His previous world title challenge against Shakur Stevenson was cancelled during fight week when he took unwell.

After We’ve waited nearly fifteen years to see Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury exchange blows in the ring, but we’re finally getting to see the giants collide this year.

Anthony Joshua: Dubbed the Battle of Britain, the boxing legends have both planned their year in accordance with the highly anticipated showdown, pushing the date down the line in a bid to come in hot.

And, although there are still some final hurdles to jump over to get the fight officially licensed, all fingers point to a winter wonderland bout.

The fight was confirmed by famed matchmaker Turki Alalshikh last month, following the head-to-head gob-off after Tyson’s first fight back from retirement.

With Fury in the ring, Joshua has also wanted to get some punches in before they clash, penning in Kristian Prenga as his next opponent.

There’s also rumours that he could be facing Deontay Wilder before Fury too, making sure it’s two fights each this year (because we’re not counting that Jake Paul dance).

But all of this would need to be completed before the final months of the year, as Eddie Hearn cements ‘November’ as the Battle of Britain timeline.

Anthony Joshua

“For us, we were always told it was November. It’s definitely happening this year,” Hearn told SunSport. “But I do still expect the fight to take place in November.”

As for the location, that’s still up in the air.

“It’s where Turki Alalshikh tells us it’s happening. He pays the bills. But the UK makes sense to us,” Hearn added.

Both fighters seem keen to get in the ring and finally settle the score, but getting that contract signed has always been an issue for Hearn and Frank Warren.

But with both competitors ramping up their schedule to come into a fight in their peak physical condition (for fighters in their mid-to-late thirties), the signs are positive.

Tyson Fury isn’t stopping with Joshua, though, as he’s already eyeing a fourth blockbuster fight in his latest comeback arc, having one eye on a belt again.

The three-weight world champion Vasyl Lomachenko’s comeback plan includes Gervonta Davis and immediate world title shot

Vasyl Lomachenko:The three-weight world champion and future Hall of Famer hasn’t set foot in the ring since an eleventh-round stoppage victory over George Kambosos Jr in May 2024.

Lomachenko hung up his gloves just over a year later.

However, Ring Magazine reported last week that Loma is set to reverse his retirement with a comeback fight eyed for this autumn (September, October, November).

The same publication is now reporting that Lomachenko intends to return to an immediate world title shot against IBF and WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete.

If the Ukrainian ends up beating Navarrete, then Lomachenko is eyeing a WBA lightweight champion in recess Gervonta Davis.

Lomachenko had been locked into negotiations with Davis for a lightweight unification bout in late 2024.

Those talks subsequently collapsed when Loma stepped away from the sport.

Anthony Joshua

Lomachenko’s promoter at the time, Todd duBoef, of Top Rank, revealed how close the fight was to getting done during a sitdown interview with talkSPORT.com shortly after.

“We were all for it,” he said. “We had met with Tank Davis and multiple people from PBC.

“Loma is at a place in his career where he is seasoned, he’s seen it all, he’s done it all.

“But one thing he’s not done is unify all of the titles and go undisputed.

“And I think he really wanted that, that is why his disappointment in the Haney fight was there.

“But he wanted to take a pause, and we are all for it.

“There was a framework that was relatively simple to put together and could be done.

“But at the end of the day, it is down to the athletes.

“There is no agreement in place. By framework, I mean similar to how we did Wilder and Fury, there was a framework to the dynamic of the two of us coming together and creating a massive event between PBC and Top Rank.

Gervonta Davis

“There is a framework to that, and that is how it looks as a sketch.

“The details of it are different, but you have a framework of how you work, and that’s a nice place to start.”

Explosive scenes force Most Valuable Promotions to ban Claressa Shields indefinitely after altercation with Alycia Baumgardner

Claressa Shields: Both boxers attended MVP’s first mixed martial arts event as Ronda Rousey beat Gina Carano in just 15 seconds in California.

A video circulating on social media shows the pair arguing before Shields appears to reach out and hit Baumgardner.

Five-weight world champion Shields, who has been undisputed in three weight classes, later claimed on social media that Baumgardner had physically threatened her.

MVP said it is aware of the incident and that it holds a “strict zero-tolerance policy for hostile, threatening, or aggressive behavior”.

“Physical altercations outside the ring or cage are unacceptable in any MVP environment,” MVP said.

“MVP does not condone, tolerate, or accept Claressa Shields’ behavior in that setting and it reflects poorly on MVP and women’s sports, which we have worked tirelessly to uplift.

“Effective immediately, Claressa Shields is banned from all MVP events until further notice.”

Anthony Joshua

Unified super-featherweight champion Baumgardner, 31, claimed the incident was “unprovoked”.

“I was physically assaulted without provocation,” Baumgardner said.

“This behaviour reflects a repeated pattern of hostility, chaos, and attention-seeking conduct that continues to embarrass women’s sports.

“This situation has been and will continue to be handled legally and professionally.”

Shields last fought in February when she beat Franchon Crews-Dezurn to retain her undisputed heavyweight status and extend her undefeated record to 18.

She faced off with Lauren Price in April after the Welshwoman retained her WBC, WBA, IBF welterweight titles, with Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom suggesting the pair could fight later in 2026.

But Shields’ prospects away from Price could look bleak with MVP holding a big stake in women’s boxing.

Gervonta Davis

MVP has signed many of the top female boxers over the past few years, including Baumgardner and three-weight world champion Mikaela Mayer.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist told BBC Sport in February that she would welcome a bout with fellow American Mayer, but this ban could impact Shields’ chances of striking a deal with MVP.

“Boxing is a dangerous sport” Bob Arum applauds Crawford for retiring on top

While many believe Terence Crawford left some meat on the bone of his career by calling it quits last year at 38, longtime Crawford promoter Bob Arum counters he retired at a perfect crescendo.

“Why shouldn’t he have retired? Boxing is a dangerous sport,” Arum told The Ring.
“He accomplished everything and made more money, particularly in the last few fights, than he ever imagined. He lives in Nebraska and has Warren Buffett as a financial advisor. So he’s put away a lot of money.
“Why should he subject himself to all that work preparing for a fight and maybe getting hurt? You saw it with Marvin Hagler, who rode off into the sunset as well when he could have made a lot of money.”
Arum, who also promoted Hagler, signed Crawford in 2011 ahead of his 15th fight and, within three years, guided him to a lightweight title. An undisputed title run at 140 pounds came right after from 2015 to 2017, followed by a welterweight title run.

But after Crawford beat Shawn Porter in November 2021, he split from Top Rank and fought as a free agent, eventually setting up a super fight against Errol Spence. He stopped the Texan in a July 2023 blockbuster bout for the undisputed 147-pound title.
Crawford later signed a lucrative deal with Riyadh Season, beating Israil Madrimov for a 154-pound title in August 2024 and Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight title last September.
Anthony Joshua
Crawford then announced his retirement in December, passing on a potential run at 160 pounds to become a five-division champion.
“The fact that we didn’t carry him over the goal line, that’s unfortunate for us, but it is what it is, that’s showbiz,” said Arum. “Of course, I’m genuinely happy for him, because we’re largely responsible for his success. He was a non-entity when he first started with us, but our matchmakers discovered a rare talent, and we brought him along correctly. So we’re very proud of that.”
While Arum has always praised Crawford for his superior skills, he previously crushed him for his economic potential.

$20M Countersuit: Judge Tosses Gervonta Davis Based on $20M Countersuit Against Ex-Girlfriend

A Florida judge on Monday dismissed a $20 million countersuit that Gervonta “Tank” Davis filed against his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, who has accused the boxer of assault and is pursuing her own civil case against him.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Milton Hirsch ruled against Davis at the end of a brief hearing, according to The Baltimore Banner, which first reported the ruling.

Davis, 31, filed the countersuit in March, alleging that Rossel provoked a fight at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a Miami strip club where she worked as a VIP cocktail waitress. In court filings, Davis claimed Rossel knew he had an upcoming bout against Jake Paul on Netflix and was set to earn more than $20 million. That fight was later canceled.

Davis further alleged that Rossel demanded $1.1 million or she would pursue criminal charges and file a lawsuit, although she had already filed a police report at that point.

Richard Wolfe, Rossel’s attorney, told The Banner in an email that the counterclaim was “ridiculous” and said it showed how desperate Davis was to “avoid his clear liability.” Richard Bales Jr., Davis’ attorney, could not immediately be reached for comment, the report said.

Gervonta Davis

Rossel, 32, filed her lawsuit against Davis three days after an Oct. 27, 2025 encounter. Her court filing alleges that Davis assaulted, choked and threatened to kill her at various points during their relationship.

Law enforcement officers later obtained an arrest warrant for Davis, and he was taken into custody by the Miami Gardens Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service after a two-week search. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 4 on charges of attempted kidnapping and battery.

Davis also remains on probation in Baltimore stemming from a 2020 hit-and-run case. Baltimore Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy this year issued an arrest warrant for Davis, for a second time, on allegations that he violated his probation.

According to The Banner, Davis’ Maryland probation agent, Portia Smith, reported that during a March 12 meeting with his new probation officer in Florida, Davis stated.

Anthony Joshua

“I am a grown man, and you will not tell me what to do.” Smith also reported that Davis was not at his house or refused to answer the door during an attempted home visit.

Hunter Pruette, Davis’ attorney in the Baltimore case, has asked Judge Handy to schedule a hearing so Davis can turn himself in and address the accusations. No court date has been set.

Davis holds a professional record of 30-0-1 and is a former WBA lightweight titleholder.

Former two-time world champion Shawn Porter has offered his expert opinion on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s expected encounter later this year

Former two-time world champion Shawn Porter has offered his expert opinion on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s expected encounter later this year.

The two heavyweights are set to finally square off, but only if ‘AJ’ comes through his warm-up fight against Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25

This represents his first outing since scoring a sixth-round finish over Jake Paul in December, which followed his fifth-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.

After his triumph over Paul, though, the 36-year-old was involved in a tragic car crash that took the lives of his two close friends.

Following that news, Joshua’s career suddenly seemed in serious doubt, yet he is now gearing up to enter the ring ahead of his long-awaited domestic dustup with Fury.

‘The Gypsy King’ returned to action last month, unanimously outpointing Arslanbek Makhmudov in his first fight since suffering a second points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

But despite Fury’s lack of activity, Porter has told Froch On Fighting that he believes the 36-year-old is still fast and mentally-sharp enough to defeat his British rival.

“I think that Tyson’s fast enough; he’s still a good-enough boxer. I think he beats Anthony Joshua.

Anthony Joshua

“Anthony has never been the fundamentally-sound boxer that Tyson Fury has been. [He’s] a really good straight-up-and-down-one-two fighter that can hit you, and hit you hard.

“But the thing we’ve seen from him, especially recently, is, if he’s not tapped in mentally, he kind of falls apart as the fight goes on.

“Should Anthony [enter the Fury fight] really tapped in and ready to go, then I think it’s a great 12-round war.”

While the opponent, on paper, is well beneath his level, Joshua’s next outing should offer an indication as to what sort of state he is in, both mentally and physically.

“We have to push for it” Gervonta Davis to be approached for comeback fight ‘very soon

Gervonta Davis’ comeback could soon become clear as “real talks” with an opponent are set to be occurring “very soon”

The 31-year-old has not fought since March 2025, when he retained his WBA world lightweight title with a controversial draw against Lamont Roach.

Since then, ‘Tank’ has been made ‘champion in recess’ by the WBA, largely because of his inactivity but also due to allegations of domestic violence.

Such accusations, which were made by his ex-partner, Courtney Rossel, resulted in Davis being removed from his cancelled exhibition match with Jake Paul last November.

More recently, though, the Baltimore man has teased a ring return, naming Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz – who he unanimously outpointed in 2021 – as a possible opponent at 140lbs.

If, however, he wishes to reclaim his old WBA title, then Davis will likely be ordered to face the sanctioning body’s No.1 contender at 135lbs, Floyd Schofield.

In pursuit of the ‘Tank’ fight, the father and trainer of ‘Kid Austin’, Schofield Sr, has claimed there are ongoing talks for the pair to collide in July.

Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed those talks in media huddle with Fight Hub TV, but also debated whether the 23-year-old, who he promotes, is ready for such a formidable challenge.

Gervonta Davis

“There will be real talks happening very soon. If ‘Kid Austin’ wants to go after ‘Tank’ then, me as a promoter, [that’s] what I have to get him.

“As a promoter, I still feel that I would give him one more fight and then go after ‘Tank’. But, if he wants it right away – let’s go.

“It wouldn’t be the right decision in my eyes, but if the father and the kid want it, then that’s what I’ll have to push for.

“I’m not sure exactly what ‘Tank’ Davis is doing, but I did hear he does want to fight in the third quarter of this year.”

Schofield has not fought since last June, when a career-best victory thus far came via a first-round demolition of former world champion Tevin Farmer.

‘I think he is a terrible boxer. I’ll knock him out like Anthony Joshua did’: Jake Paul targets Francis Ngannou next

Jake Paul, the YouTube influencer turned professional prizefighter, shocked the boxing world not only when he took a fight with former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua in December but lasted into the sixth round.

Ngannou is an elite heavyweight mixed martial artist. The former UFC heavyweight champion has also boxed. He pressed Tyson Fury over the course of their 10 round contest and was knocked out in two by Joshua.

“I wouldn’t say there’s a long list of opponents [for his next fight]. I think most recently Francis Ngannou was talking a lot of smack. He is an easy fight for me,” Paul told Sky Sports News.

Paul is not a natural heavyweight, the bulk of his professional career has been conducted at cruiserweight. But he is undaunted about taking on another big man. “I think he is a terrible boxer,” Paul said of Ngannou.

“I’ll go back up to heavyweight and knock him out like Joshua did, render him unconscious. He knows I lasted longer than him against Joshua. I didn’t get put out.”

He wondered though if Ngannou, despite being a seasoned martial artist, would be hesitant to meet him in a boxing bout.

“He maybe wouldn’t do the fight because I think deep down he wouldn’t want to get embarrassed,” Paul suggested.

“So to me that’s a fun one on the list.”

He has had to recover from the broken jaw sustained in the stoppage loss to Joshua but Paul will resume his boxing career.

“We will see how the jaw continues to heal up,” he said. “I’m definitely going to keep on fighting.”

“I’ll destroy him”: World champion calls out Crawford for ‘biggest payday of his life

Terence Crawford may have retired back in December but that hasn’t stopped a reigning world champion from challenging him to a fight.

Crawford competed for the last time back in September when he successfully stepped up to 168lbs and defeated Canelo Alvarez to become undisputed super-middleweight world champion

The American hung up the gloves three months later, ending an illustrious career that saw ‘Bud’ also hold world titles at lightweight and super-welterweight, along with undisputed reigns at super-lightweight and welterweight.

It it a titleholder at 147lbs who now wants to take on Crawford, after WBC champion Ryan Garcia revealed his intentions on social media

“If Bud is listening, I would love to fight you.

I feel like I would literally beat the sh*t out of you. You’re a good fighter but I don’t think you’ve ever fought somebody with talent and explosiveness and power.

“Have you fought anybody with one punch knockout power? No. I feel Bud Crawford is overrated. I’ll beat the sh*t out of him. I feel like that in my heart. I would actually fight him, if he doesn’t want it that’s not my fault.

Terence Crawford

“He’s not a draw, he doesn’t bring anything to the table, he’s boring as f*ck, but I would probably give him the biggest payday of his life if he takes the fight.”

Garcia won the WBC welterweight title in February with a dominant victory over Mario Barrios, securing ‘King Ry’ world honours for the first time.

He famously defeated Devin Haney in 2024 before the result was changed to a no contest due to a failed drugs test, and while a clash against Crawford could be unlikely, a rematch between Haney and Garcia has been touted to potentially take place later this year.
