‘WITH FULL RESPECT’ Anthony Joshua’s family make feelings clear on potential July boxing return as Brit continues recovery from tragic crash

ANTHONY JOSHUA’s family will “fully” support him if he chooses to return to the ring. AJ’s fighting future has been up in the air since the fatal car crash which killed his two close friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, in Nigeria last December.

Joshua, 36, miraculously escaped the horror smash with minor injuries by swapping seats moments before the ill-fated journey took place.

The former two-time unified heavyweight champion has yet to speak on his fighting future, although he has been training and spoken of plans to honour his late friends.

And according to his uncle Ademola, the entire Joshua family will throw their weight behind him should he choose to lace up his gloves again.

Ademola told Nigerian newspaper The Punch: “We are proud of him, very proud of him.

“The way we, the elderly, think is very different from theirs, but it is all at his discretion.

“He makes the full decision, and we have full respect for him, whatever he decides.

“Whatever he has decided within himself, we will support him fully.”

Watching his nephew – who last fought in December against Jake Paul – trade yet more blows with some of the hardest-hitting humans on the planet won’t be easy for Ademola.

He said: “Each time he’s knocked down, it is just like the heart is coming out of our chest.

“All these emotional feelings whenever he’s fighting, it’s too much trauma for us also.”

Ademola’s comments on AJ potentially fighting again come on the back of promoter Eddie Hearn revealing he’s tentatively targeting a July return for the Watford warrior.

He told Boxing Scene: “[He was] due to fight in March, then fight Tyson Fury in August.

“That’s not happening anymore. He won’t be fighting Tyson Fury next.

“He’s going to come back late summer but physically he’s not in a position to return to camp.

“So I’m planning, but he’s just resting and preparing.

“We’ve really not had any solid plans to announce what’s next. I’m looking at options to get him in the ring in July time.

“But we’ll only know if that’s a real possibility when he returns to camp, which will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks.

“I think there’s nothing more that he wants at the moment than to return to training camp because it’s where he loves to be.”

Anthony Joshua Plots July Return on the Horizon But No Fight With Tyson Fury,After Devastating Crash —  Says Promoter

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is aiming for a return to the ring in July following his recovery from a devastating car crash in December, but a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury will not be his next bout, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.

Joshua had been riding high after a sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami when tragedy struck. While visiting family in Nigeria over the Christmas period, he was involved in a road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two close associates and members of his training team, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua was hospitalised following the crash.

“[He was] due to fight in March, then fight Tyson Fury. That’s not happening anymore. He won’t be fighting Tyson Fury next,” Hearn said, adding that no firm plans have yet been finalised for the former champion’s return.

The immediate priority, Hearn explained, is Joshua’s full physical recovery and gradual return to training camp. “The focus for Anthony Joshua is to get back into training camp. He’s not ready to go back into training camp, physically, but it’s getting closer,” he said.

“I think there’s nothing more that he wants at the moment than to return to training camp because it’s where he loves to be.”

Hearn indicated that July is the likely window for Joshua’s comeback, with several potential venues under consideration around the world. Further discussions about opponents and logistics are expected once Joshua resumes full training in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Fury is preparing for his own return to action. The former world champion is set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11. The bout will mark Fury’s first fight since his rematch defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

While fans may have to wait longer for a potential Joshua-Fury showdown, Hearn’s comments suggest that Joshua’s return to competition — and to full fitness — remains firmly on the horizon.

Anthony Joshua Makes Emotional Tribute – Tattoos Names of Friends Lost in Tragic Ogun Car Crash

British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer, Anthony Joshua, has tattooed the names of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, who died in a car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, last December.

A London-based tattoo studio, Fulham Tattoo, on Thursday, posted images of the new tattoos on Instagram, saying Joshua walked into the shop unannounced for his first visit.

“Huge thank you to two-time heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua for unexpectedly and unannounced walking through the door a few weeks ago for his first visit with us at Fulham Tattoo London … what a walk in,” the post read.

Ghami and Ayodele were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck on a road near Lagos in December.

Joshua, who was also in the vehicle, survived the crash and was hospitalised before being discharged and returning to the United Kingdom.

The boxer later attended the funerals of Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, who was one of his trainers.

PUNCH reports that the Lexus Jeep carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck on December 29, 2025.

The incident drew widespread reactions from the boxing community and fans in Nigeria and abroad, with tributes pouring in for the deceased members of Joshua’s team.

Anthony Joshua’s Comeback Nears, but Eddie Hearn Issues Clear Warning to Fans

Eddie Hearn has said he expects Anthony Joshua to box again after the heavyweight’s involvement in a fatal car crash, but the promoter is making no promises

On 29 December, Joshua was injured in a car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends. Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele had been members of the British heavyweight’s team for the majority of “AJ”’s professional career, and their deaths have led to much speculation over Joshua’s fighting future.

Yet Joshua, 36, returned to the gym two weeks later, after attending the funerals of Ghami and Ayodele and before posting an emotional video message for his fans.

In that video, the former two-time world champion did not address his future in the ring, but his promoter Hearn has continued to field questions on the matter.

“I don’t think there is any guarantees he fights again, but at the same time, I expect him to because it is something that he loves,” the Matchroom boss told First Round TV.

“And it is something he can carry those guys with him through as well, and it is something he wants to do. From a boxing sense, physically it wasn’t easy what he went through either. People probably don’t realise the extent of that.

“He has been training, but he is not ready yet and won’t be for a while to return to [full] boxing training.

“Before this terrible incident, we were geared up to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury. Obviously that is not happening now, and I don’t know if it will ever happen right now.

“But I think in the next few weeks and month, he may start to return and just turn the dial up a little bit more on training, and see where he is at.”

Joshua’s crash, in which he and his friends were passengers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, occurred just 10 days after the Briton fought Jake Paul in Miami.

Joshua stopped the YouTuber-turned-boxer in six rounds, breaking the American’s jaw to bounce back from a 2024 KO by Daniel Dubois.

As Hearn said, there were plans for AJ to build to a long-awaited domestic clash with Fury, but those plans have been drastically affected by December’s incident.

Still, Fury will emerge from his fifth career retirement when he boxes in April, taking on Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov somewhere in the UK.

Anthony Joshua Speaks Out for the First Time Since Nigeria Crash

Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time since the December car crash in Nigeria that killed his two friends.

Joshua was involved in the crash Dec. 29 near Lagos, Nigeria, that killed his two friends Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

On Thursday, the former two-time heavyweight champion released an emotional YouTube video in which he discussed the incident for the first time.

“The last time I spoke to you guys was in Miami. We had so many plans to wrap up 2025, and we were on a mission,” Joshua said.

“We went back home, went to see our families and everything just got flipped up on its head. God’s the best planner. We can plan to the best of our capabilities, but that was such an unforeseen circumstance that was out of all of our control.

“Not even did their parents, uncles, cousins, friends and myself lose two great men, we lost people that we dearly care about and that have been major players in all of our lives.

“It’s tough. It’s really tough. I’m not going to sit here and show all of my emotions. In today’s day and age, it’s easy to microanalyse people and pass judgement, but I know what I feel, and that’s all that matters to me. I know what my duty is.”

Joshua, 36, held back tears while talking about his friends. In the video’s caption, he conceded the speech “took a few attempts.”

“It’s a shame. It’s a shame … So, there’s that side of things. What can I say,” an emotional Joshua said.

“One day my time will come, and I’m not scared. … At all. It’s actually comforting I’ve got two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that. … My left and my right, you know?

“I was walking with giants that kept me protected.”

Anthony Joshua

Joshua thanked people for their messages of support and vowed to fulfil the dreams of his “brothers.”

“What my goal is is to continue to help them achieve their goals. Even though they may not be here in the physical, when I pray, I know spiritually they’re going to aid me through. It’s not just physical strength that will get me through; it’s going to take a lot.

“A lot of strength from a higher power, so I’m definitely going to be saying my prayers, and I’m going to help them fulfil their dreams for their families.

“Not only me, there’s a whole team of us. … A whole brotherhood, a whole sisterhood that will be helping fulfil their legacy and dreams.

“I don’t think I’ve mentioned the love and appreciation. It’s all acknowledged by me, by them, by their families. We acknowledged the thousands, maybe going into millions, around the world that showed so much love to them both.”

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter at Matchroom Boxing, said last week that Joshua “will take his time to get back on track” as the boxer continues his recovery from the crash.

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Joshua was also injured in the crash and later received medical treatment.

He said the loss was particularly painful because the group had made plans to end the year together.

He added, “They’re my brothers, they’re my friends first and foremost, and then we became business partners. We became everything.”

The boxer said he feels a strong responsibility to continue supporting the families they left behind.

“I understand my duty. I understand what they wanted to do for their families, so my goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical,” he said.

“It ain’t about legacy. It’s just doing what’s right, and I know what I’m going to do, what’s right for them and what’s right for their family.”

Reflecting further on loss and mortality, Joshua said, “one day my time will come and I’m not scared either at all. It’s actually comforting knowing that I’ve got two brothers on the other side.

“I’ve lost people before, but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that, my left and my right.”

In the caption accompanying the video, Joshua wrote, “A short message from the heart. My brother’s keeper for life.”

The driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Kayode, 46, has since appeared before a magistrate’s court in Sagamu, Ogun State.

The case was adjourned until February 25 to allow the prosecution seek legal advice from the state Attorney-General’s office.

Anthony Joshua’s Family Speaks Out, Questions Prosecution of Trusted Driver After Deadly Crash

Anthony Joshua’s family has spoken publicly for the first time following a tragic road accident that claimed two lives, raising serious questions about the decision to prosecute the heavyweight boxing star’s longtime driver.

The fatal crash, which sent shockwaves through the sporting world and beyond, has quickly become more than a legal matter. It has evolved into a deeply emotional and controversial case, touching on grief, accountability, loyalty, and the complexities of justice when high-profile figures are involved.

At the center of the case is a devastating accident that resulted in the deaths of two people. Authorities moved swiftly to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and prosecutors later announced their intention to bring charges against Anthony Joshua’s driver, a man who has reportedly worked closely with the former world champion for years.

While the loss of life has been universally acknowledged as heartbreaking and irreversible, Joshua’s family has made it clear that they believe critical questions remain unanswered about how responsibility is being assigned.

Family Breaks Silence

READ MORE :Tragic questions loom as Anthony Joshua’s driver appears

In a statement shared through representatives, members of Joshua’s family expressed sorrow for the victims and their loved ones, emphasizing that their thoughts remain with those affected by the tragedy. However, they also voiced concern over what they described as a “rushed” decision to prosecute, suggesting that the driver may be being treated unfairly due to his association with a global sports icon.

According to the family, the driver has a long-standing reputation as a careful, professional employee who had never previously been involved in a serious incident. They argue that this history should weigh heavily in any legal assessment, alongside a full and transparent examination of the evidence.

Anthony Joshua

“This is a tragic situation for everyone involved,” the family noted, “but tragedy alone should not determine guilt.”

The decision to proceed with charges has sparked debate among legal observers and fans alike. Supporters of the family’s position argue that public pressure and media scrutiny may be influencing the case, particularly given Joshua’s fame and the intense attention surrounding anything connected to his name.

Others counter that the prosecution is simply following the evidence and that no individual should be shielded from legal consequences, regardless of their employer or status.

Legal analysts note that prosecutions in fatal crash cases often hinge on technical details — speed, road conditions, mechanical factors, and witness testimony — and that outcomes can vary significantly depending on jurisdiction and the interpretation of negligence.

Anthony Joshua’s Position

Anthony Joshua himself has not made an extensive public statement, reportedly following legal advice. Those close to the boxer describe him as “devastated” by the loss of life and deeply conflicted by the situation involving someone he has trusted for years.

Joshua’s career has long been defined by discipline, responsibility, and a carefully managed public image. This incident, however, has placed him in an unenviable position — mourning a tragedy while watching a member of his inner circle face potentially life-altering legal consequences.

Gervonta Davis

Reaction on social media and in the wider public has been sharply divided. Some fans have rallied behind Joshua’s family, urging authorities to ensure the case is handled without bias or external pressure. Others insist that the focus must remain on the victims, warning against narratives that could be seen as minimizing the severity of the loss.

Victims’ advocates have also weighed in, stressing that questioning a prosecution should never be interpreted as questioning the value of the lives lost.

As the case moves forward, the driver is expected to appear in court, where prosecutors will present their evidence and the defense will have an opportunity to challenge the charges. Legal experts caution that early public statements, while emotionally understandable, will have no bearing on the ultimate legal outcome.

For now, the tragedy remains unresolved — a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be altered, and how justice, grief, and public scrutiny often collide in cases involving high-profile figures.

One thing is clear: this is no longer just a story about a crash. It is a complex human drama, with lives lost, futures at stake, and a family demanding that the legal process be both fair and thorough as it runs its course.

Tragic questions loom as Anthony Joshua’s driver appears in court after deadly crash

A chauffeur who was driving Anthony Joshua when their car crashed, killing two of the boxer’s friends, has appeared in a court in Nigeria.

Adeniyi Kayode, 46, was previously charged with four crimes, including death by dangerous driving.

Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, died on 29 December after their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos. Joshua was treated in hospital for his injuries.

Kayode arrived at Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state on Tuesday, but the case was adjourned until the 25 February after the prosecutor was granted more time to gain legal advice.

Kayode faced the court wearing a black hoodie, black shoes and a pair of black trousers. He did not speak during the hearing.

He was previously released from custody after being granted bail of 5m naira ($3,500; £2,600).

Joshua, a former heavyweight champion, was discharged from hospital two days after the Lexus SUV crashed on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway, in south-west Nigeria.

Ghami and Ayodele were both pronounced dead at the scene, while 36-year-old Joshua was pictured being helped from the wreckage.

Following the crash, the boxer posted a tribute to Ghami and Ayodele on Instagram, writing: “I didn’t even realise how special they are.

“I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.

“100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents.”

Joshua, who was born in Watford, has family roots in Sagamu – a town in Ogun state, near the crash site.

He was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations in the town at the time of the crash, a family member told the BBC.

Kayode has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
