“Should We Even Be Surprised? Woods Steals the Spotlight from Rory McIlroy and Others with Flawless Happy Gilmore-Style Drive”
If any golfer could produce the perfect Happy Gilmore swing, you’d put good money on it being Tiger Woods.
The sequel to the 1996 Adam Sandler sports comedy is finally on our screens, after Netflix released the long-awaited Happy Gilmore 2 on Friday.
With Sandler reprising his role as the titular unprofessional hockey player-turned-golf star, fans will once again get to enjoy all of his antics that made the first film an all-time classic.
This includes the iconic ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing, which has since become a shot many have set their sights on mastering.
The famous drive consists of a run-up to the tee, before hammering the ball as hard as possible.
It is a shot that plenty have tried and failed to recreate, including some of golf’s biggest stars.
Plenty, but not sporting great Woods, who had no such trouble when he lined up a ridiculous effort back in 2021.
In a special challenge put together by TaylorMade to mark the film’s 25th anniversary, some of the golf’s biggest names were tasked with attempting the ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing.

This included Woods, who was joined by fellow PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Matthew Wolf and Tommy Fleetwood.
And to the surprise of nobody, Woods absolutely nailed the shot, which sailed over 250 yards and to the centre of the fairway.
This left his fellow professionals laughing in disbelief, while McIlroy quipped: “I mean, are we surprised?”
If it wasn’t already clear just how special Woods’ effort was, it was quickly highlighted as the other golf stars took on the challenge.
While Morikawa, Johnson and Fleetwood all managed to make strong contact with the ball, they couldn’t get anywhere near the accuracy and power of Woods.
His first effort flew way to the right, while he hilariously took out the launch monitor with his second shot.
This left the other golfers in stitches, while McIlroy couldn’t help but laugh off his huge blunder.
It was perhaps no surprise that Woods was able to produce a perfect imitation of the iconic swing, with his career defined by incredible shots.

As for McIlroy, his attempt at the iconic golf shot wasn’t his last involvement in Happy Gilmore, with the Northern Irishman one of a number of big-name golfers to feature in the newly-released sequel.
