Canadian Open 2025: Emma Raducanu continued to build momentum before next month’s US Open with a straight-set win over American Peyton Stearns at the Canadian Open.

British number one Raducanu, a shock champion at the New York slam in 2021, progressed to the third round 6-2 6-4.

The 22-year-old has won five of her six matches during the North American summer hard-court swing, after reaching the Washington Open semi-finals last week.

She will next play Wimbledon runner-up Amanda Anisimova, after the American fifth seed defeated New Zealand’s Lulu Sun 6-4 7-6 (7-5).

World number 33 Raducanu proved too strong for 32nd seed Stearns and has now won all three meetings against her.

An early break put her in control of the first set before she took her sixth set point on her opponent’s serve.

Raducanu trailed 4-2 after falling a break down in the second, but produced an impressive finish with a run of four consecutive games to clinch victory.

“I’m really happy with how I came through in that match,” Raducanu said.

“I kind of lost my focus at some moments in the second set and she took advantage, but very happy that I came through against a top opponent and happy to extend my stay in Montreal.

“I just want to say thank you [to supporters], I saw the Union Jack in clutch moments and I was actually born in Canada, so to me it means so much to do well here.”

Raducanu’s impressive performances on hard courts over the past fortnight follow her encouraging run at Wimbledon, where she defeated former champion Marketa Vondrousova and pushed world number one Aryna Sabalenka in her third-round defeat.

British number two Cameron Norrie exited the men’s draw on Wednesday after a surprise second-round defeat by world number 99 Aleksandar Vukic.

Congratulation, Boxing Icon Ranks Oleksandr Usyk Among The Most Greatest Elite Heavyweights of All Time

Oleksandr Usyk is easily considered to be a modern legend of boxing, as he is still yet to be defeated in his career.

Decorated as both an amateur and a professional, Usyk’s win over Daniel Dubois saw him become a three-time undisputed champion.

It is currently unclear as to who Usyk will face next, despite Joseph Parker campaigning for a championship fight.

One boxing coach feels that Usyk has already etched his name into the history books, comparing him amongst the top fighters of all time.

Abel Sanchez says that Oleksandr Usyk is a top 10 heavyweight of all time

Legendary boxing trainer Abel Sanchez has been around the sport for decades now, meaning he has a deep knowledge of the fighting game.

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Sanchez was asked to give his thoughts on Usyk and where he ranks against greats of the past.

Sanchez started by saying that he hopes people don’t say that Usyk fought in a ‘weak division’ when comparing him to the likes of Mike Tyson or Muhammad Ali.

“I would never compare him in a fight to Tyson, because Tyson is a different era.”

The coach then added, “In his era, he is the cream of the crop. He’s dominated everybody, he’s beaten everybody.”

When asked to give Usyk a ranking against all-time greats at heavyweight, Sanchez said, “In the bottom five of a top 10… Somewhere around five or six, somewhere there.”

The coach was then asked how Usyk would fare in fights against some of the greatest heavyweights of all time, to which Sanchez responded, “You can’t compare, it’s just different eras.”

Abel Sanchez says that Oleksandr Usyk is the only man who beat himself

In terms of the current options for Usyk at heavyweight, Sanchez feels that no fighter is going to be able to beat the Ukrainian, except for himself.

“He’s the only one who can beat himself right now. If he’s not motivated, if he’s not up for a fight, if he doesn’t think that there’s enough of a challenge in front of him, he’s the only one who can beat himself.”

Despite feeling Usyk is for the most part unbeatable, Sanchez said that he is aiming to get a fight made between the champion and his athlete, Filip Hrgovic.

Silence Offed Deontay Wilder’s Comeback Masterminded by Promoter Nelson Lopez Jr – Joshua Fight in the Pipeline

Promoter Nelson Lopez Jr has emerged as the driving force behind Deontay Wilder’s (43-4-1, 42 KOs) latest return to the ring.

“The Bronze Bomber” is set to face Texas heavyweight champion Tyrell Herndon (24-5, 15 KOs) tomorrow, June 27, in Wichita, marking the beginning of a carefully mapped-out three-fight comeback plan.

Lopez has confirmed that Wilder’s return is structured under a tentative three-fight agreement—with the second bout already lined up and talks underway for a potential third showdown against none other than Anthony Joshua.

Speaking to SunSport, Lopez—nicknamed “Lolo”—explained:

“Yeah, listen, we’ve got a tentative deal and we’re going one step at a time.
We’ve got this one lined up, the next one is in place, but there’s nothing solid for the third—because, you know how boxing is. There’s no guaranteed path to success.
We’ve got to get through this first. Then, maybe Eddie [Hearn] will come to the table and we can see if something can happen with AJ.”

Former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is also on the comeback trail, recovering from a shoulder surgery following a recent defeat. Similarly, Wilder underwent corrective surgery to repair a persistent shoulder issue and now claims to be fully fit and ready to reignite his career.

Wilder has suffered four losses in his last five outings—a brutal run that included a decision loss to Joseph Parker in December 2024, followed by a knockout at the hands of Zhilei Zhang just six months later. The back-to-back defeats derailed what was once a highly anticipated mega-fight with Joshua, who himself is aiming to rebound later this year.

At 39, Wilder knows the stakes are higher than ever. A loss to Herndon, a relatively unknown opponent, could spell the end of his heavyweight journey. That’s why the comeback begins with a low-risk bout—strategically chosen to rebuild confidence and momentum.

Still, the possibility of a Joshua vs. Wilder blockbuster remains on the table. If Joshua wins his next scheduled fight—rumored for November—and Wilder clears his two comeback bouts, the long-awaited transatlantic showdown could finally materialize in early 2026.

The road is uncertain, but hope lingers—and for fans, the dream of Wilder vs. Joshua lives on.

Bronze Bomber’s Legacy: Wilder’s Reign Would Be Defined By One Of The Most Iconic Trilogies In Boxing History Against Tyson Fury.

Few modern heavyweights have electrified the boxing world quite like Deontay Wilder. Known for his terrifying knockout power and explosive charisma, Wilder has carved out a legacy that continues to spark debate, admiration, and controversy within the sport. From his rise as an Olympic medalist to his reign as WBC heavyweight champion, and his epic trilogy with Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder remains one of the most compelling figures in modern boxing.

Humble Beginnings and a Sudden Rise

Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 1985, Deontay Leshun Wilder didn’t take the traditional route into boxing. He began his career relatively late, lacing up gloves at the age of 20. Initially motivated by the need to provide for his daughter, who was born with spina bifida, Wilder quickly showed a natural aptitude for the sweet science. His athleticism, paired with his freakish punching power, allowed him to rise quickly through the amateur ranks.

By 2008, just three years after he began boxing, Wilder earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and brought home a bronze medal from the Beijing Olympics—America’s only boxing medal in those Games. The achievement earned him the nickname “The Bronze Bomber,” a homage to legendary heavyweight Joe Louis, “The Brown Bomber.”

A Knockout Artist Like No Other

When Wilder turned pro in 2008, he carried a raw, unpolished style. But what he lacked in technique, he more than made up for with a right hand that could turn off lights with a single touch. Through his first 40 professional bouts, Wilder racked up 39 knockouts, many of them in brutal, highlight-reel fashion.

His resume might have lacked big names early on, but the numbers were staggering. At one point, he had the highest knockout-to-win ratio in heavyweight history. In 2015, he captured the WBC heavyweight title with a decision win over Bermane Stiverne—ironically the only man he hadn’t knocked out at the time. That would change two years later when Wilder obliterated Stiverne in a devastating first-round demolition in their rematch.

The Tyson Fury Trilogy: Glory, Pain, and Redemption

Deontay Wilder’s reign would be defined by one of the most iconic trilogies in boxing history against Tyson Fury. Their first meeting in 2018 ended in a controversial draw—despite Wilder scoring two knockdowns, many observers believed Fury outboxed him for most of the fight. The final round knockdown, where Fury miraculously rose from what looked like a career-ending shot, became an instant legend.

In the rematch in 2020, Fury overpowered Wilder with a relentless assault, stopping him in the seventh round. Wilder suffered his first professional loss and responded with a wave of excuses, including allegations of a “spiked” water bottle and a “heavy” ring costume.

Terence Crawford

Despite the controversy, Wilder returned for a third fight in 2021—and though he was again stopped, this time in the 11th round, he earned immense respect for his heart and resilience. Both men were knocked down multiple times in what was arguably the greatest heavyweight bout of the 21st century.

Post-Fury Era: Searching for Redemption

Since the Fury trilogy, Wilder has been attempting to reclaim his position among boxing’s elite. In 2022, he returned with a chilling first-round knockout of Robert Helenius—a reminder that his power remains as lethal as ever.

But then came the shock of 2023: a flat, uninspired performance in a loss to Joseph Parker. The bout raised serious questions about Wilder’s motivation, preparation, and whether the wars he endured had finally caught up to him. Rumors swirled about possible retirement. Some speculated he had mentally checked out of the sport, while others believed he was still a major threat if properly focused.

What’s Next for The Bronze Bomber?

As of 2025, Wilder’s next move remains a hot topic in boxing circles. There’s been speculation of a clash with fellow knockout artist Zhilei Zhang, or a lucrative showdown with Anthony Joshua—once the most anticipated heavyweight fight in the world.

Wilder has made it clear he wants to fight again—but only if the stakes are high. At 39 years old, he knows the window is closing, but his hunger for legacy may still burn beneath the surface. And in a division where one punch can change everything, Deontay Wilder remains a dangerous presence.

Legacy of Chaos and Power

Regardless of what happens next, Wilder’s legacy is secure. He revitalized the American heavyweight scene, brought an unpredictable energy back to the division, and gave fans unforgettable moments. His knockout power will be remembered in the same breath as Mike Tyson, George Foreman, and Sonny Liston.

But Wilder’s career is more than just knockouts. It’s about overcoming odds, dealing with criticism, showing vulnerability, and always coming back. Love him or loathe him, you cannot ignore Deontay Wilder.

He is, and always will be, The Bronze Bomber.

In a surprise twist, Djokovic abruptly withdraws from the ATP Cincinnati Masters, leaving fans stunned and speculation swirling.

Novak Djokovic withdrew on Monday from this week’s start of the ATP Cincinnati Masters, with the pullout coming a year to the day from his Paris Olympic gold medal victory.

Tournament officials confirmed the news to The Athletic, meaning the 38-year-old Serb will have played no matches between his Wimbledon semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner and the US Open start in three weeks.

World number one Sinner, who like Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz skipped the current ATP Toronto Masters in order to rest and recover from Wimbledon, has been in Cincinnati since the weekend.

Sinner and his team posted a golf course selfie to social media on Monday, one day after an opening practice session at the pre-US Open event.

Djokovic, winner of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, first played Cincinnati in 2005 and won the last of his three titles there in 2023 after losing five previous finals.

Despite great dedication and efforts, the necessary conditions to host the tournament on the planned date and in the planned format could not be guaranteed. Therefore, it was decided not to hold this year’s edition,” the statement read

The statement highlighted the nine tournaments organized in the Serbian capital since 2021, under different brands: five ATP 250 tournamentsone WTA 250one WTA 125, one ATP Challenger 125, and one ITF tournament.

“The organization remains committed to the development of tennis in Serbia and will continue working to create the necessary conditions for professional tournaments to be held again in Belgrade in the future,” it added.

Conor Benn hints he knows exactly who would triumph in a thrilling Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua clash.

Count Conor Benn among those who want to see Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua step into the ring together.

Fury and Joshua have long been rumoured for a super fight, but a bout between the former world heavyweight champions has never materialised despite the British superstars’ parallel rise to the top of the sport.

With Fury having announced his retirement and Joshua winding down his career, Benn believes the rivals need to do whatever it takes to square off before both men hang up the gloves for good.

He also thinks he knows who would come out on top.

“The fight has got to happen. It can’t not happen,” Benn, speaking to Reece Mennie on his podcast, said. “It would seriously be so disrespectful to everybody if that fight did not happen.

“I don’t really want to sit on the fence. I just think Fury’s style could be all wrong for AJ, but then you can never write AJ off with the athleticism. I think it’s now at a stage of who has got what left.

“I think it would mean more to AJ, but I don’t think you can ever write Fury off, but it depends on what Fury turns up. I would probably have to put my money on Fury.”

Charlie Woods’ hopes of making United States Junior Ryder Cup team aren’t completely lost despite coming up short of an automatic last week at the 49th Junior PGA Championships

Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 74 (3-over) in the final round on Aug. 1 in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He enjoyed a strong week overall in finishing the tournament 9-under and tied for ninth overall, though he started the final round tied for second and holding an automatic Junior Ryder bid.

The winner and runner-up from the Junior PGA Championships were each guaranteed a place on the team as long as they were eligible. Tournament winner Lunden Esterline and Royal Palm Beach’s Giuseppe Puebla nabbed the automatic bids.

Esterline and Puebla have already joined Hamilton Coleman (U.S. Junior Amateur champion), Miles Russell (No. 1 in qualifying points) and Tyler Mawhinney (No. 2 in qualifying points) to take five of the six available roster spots.

A sixth and final roster post will be a captain’s choice at the discretion of Suzy Whaley, a PGA of America Hall of Famer who calls Palm Beach Gardens home. The deadline for the pick is Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Romine pointed out that Woods could be picked as a captain’s selection to help raise awareness of the event.

“Woods is ranked 879thin WAGR, though he contended at Junior PGA before final-round 74 knocked him to T-9. Picking Charlie would increase the exposure of the event and ensure that Tiger Woods is at least at the early-week festivities at Bethpage.”

The 13th Junior Ryder Cup will be contested from Sept. 23-25, 2025 at Nassau Country Club and Bethpage Black in New York.

Biggest Come Back: Last Men Defeated by Gervonta Davis and Manny Pacquiao Could Share Huge Card As Both Hope To Reach The Top Once More

Manny Pacquiao has not scored a win in six years, and Gervonta Davis hasn’t scored a win in over a year.

It has been over 2,200 days since Manny Pacquiao scored his last victory. He came extremely close as he fought to a draw against Mario Barrios at the age of 46, a fight that, in the eyes of many, Pacquiao ought to have won.

Gervonta Davis, meanwhile, is coming off his most criticized performance as he fought to a draw against Lamont Roach. Roach would’ve won the fight if Davis taking a knee had been counted as a knockdown, as it should’ve been.

Davis hasn’t secured a win in over 400 days.

Though both men are coming off draws and hoping to rebuild, it is their most recent victims who are rumored to be rebuilding in a big way on the same card.

Keith Thurman and Frank Martin to face tough opposition on same card

Gervonta davis

In Pacquiao’s latest fight, he drew with Barrios, in the fight before he lost to Yordenis Ugas. His last win occurred back in 2019, when Pacquiao defeated Keith Thurman by split decision, with a knockdown in the first round making all the difference.

Thurman, now 31-1, took three years off of boxing after the loss, before returning to defeat Barrios by unanimous decision in 2022.

After the win, Thurman went dark for another three years, before reappearing earlier this year against Australian Brock Jarvis, whom he blitzed in three rounds.

Thurman is rumored to be in talks to face 23-0 Vergil Ortiz Jr. next. Ortiz is on a great run of form having spent two years between 2022 and 2024 out of the ring, and has defeated Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov in his last two fights.

The fight is an extremely tough one for Thurman, who Pacquiao named a dog after, to take, though there is an equally tough match-up on the undercard.

Gervonta davis

Gervonta Davis’s last victim was Frank Martin, who Davis stopped in eight rounds, marking Tank’s fourth KO in a row after outpointing Isaac Cruz in 2021.

Martin is in talks to face Arnold Barboza Jr., who took his first loss recently to Teofimo Lopez, and defeated Jack Catterall one fight earlier.

Both Thurman and Martin will take on these tough challenges on the same card, if reports are accurate.

Interestingly, Pacquiao himself may also face Rolly Romero, Davis’ former foe, though this would not be on the same card as Thurman or Martin’s fights.

Terence Crawford

Keith Thurman vs Vergil Ortiz & Frank Martin vs Arnold Barboza – The stats

With these fights rumored to land on a PBC vs Golden Boy card in October, it is worth assessing how much chance each fighter has against the other.

On one hand, Thurman and Martin will both be disadvantaged by their periods of inactivity, with Martin having not fought since his loss to Davis and Thurman having stepped into the ring just twice in the last six years.

Ortiz is also on an impressive run at the moment, and despite Barboza’s recent loss, he is also in formidable form having fought multiple times against high level opposition recently.

Insider Slams: Thinking Crawford Can Beat Canelo Is ‘Stupid Talk and Pure Delusion” – Boxing Insider Slams Talk of Upset

The atmosphere in the boxing world is heating up ahead of the eagerly awaited “Fight of the Century” between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford. However, not everyone believes this is an even matchup. Renowned trainer Joel Diaz has sparked controversy with blunt statements, bluntly stating that “it’s stupid to think Crawford is going to beat Canelo”. For Diaz, the Mexican’s size, power and experience will be an insurmountable barrier for the American.

The trainer not only criticizes fans who see Crawford as the favorite, but also offers a detailed analysis of why, in his opinion, this fight is destined to be a victory for Canelo. The key, according to Diaz, lies in the overwhelming weight difference. Crawford will move up two categories for this matchup, a challenge that he believes already took its toll in his recent fight against Israil Madrimov.

An uneven fight

Joel Diaz does not hesitate to recall Crawford’s last performance when he moved up in weight, in conversation with AgainsttheRopes, he explained that “Terence Crawford went from 147 to 154 pounds to fight Madrimov. What did he do to Madrimov? Nothing,” he said. Diaz argues that if Crawford could not dominate a natural super welterweight boxer like Madrimov, the transition to 168 pounds to face a natural puncher like Canelo will be an impossible task.

READ MORE : Anthony Joshua Taunts Parker’s Mum: “No Point Worrying,

Unlike Madrimov, who fought cautiously and with feints, Canelo is a more aggressive and powerful fighter, who will not waste time looking for the knockout. For Diaz, the only chance Crawford had was for his opponent to be less aggressive, something that will not happen with the Mexican champion.

Anthony joshua

The popular idea that Crawford can replicate Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s victory over Canelo in 2013 is quickly dismissed by Diaz. He explains that this matchup happened more than a decade ago and under completely different circumstances. Mayweather, at the height of his career and with enormous popularity that influenced the judges, fought against a younger and less developed Canelo

In addition, Diaz commented that Mayweather had the advantage of a catchweight that weakened the Mexican. Crawford, on the other hand, is an older, slower and less powerful fighter, who is facing the strongest, smartest and most experienced version of Canelo to date.

The Day Swiss legend Federer Survived a Match He Says He Had No Right to Win

Roger Federer reached the semifinal at the Australian Open in 2020, in what marked his last appearance in the final four of a Grand Slam.

Federer‘s days of domination were well behind him at this stage of his career, and at 38, he was quickly approaching retirement.

The Swiss legend was still determined to increase his tally of 20 major titles, however, after coming agonisingly close to doing so the year prior.

At Wimbledon in 2019, Federer lost to Novak Djokovic in the final, despite having multiple championship points.

In Melbourne the following January, he was set to play the Serb again after defeating unseeded American Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinals, whom he narrowly escaped.

After Sandgren went up in the match by two sets to one, he had seven match point opportunities to close it out in the fourth.

In his on-court interview after the match, he said: “You’ve got to get lucky sometimes, I tell you that, because in those seven match points you’re not under control, it might look that way, but I don’t know.

“I was just hoping that maybe he was not going to smash the winner on that one point, then you just keep the ball in play, and if he does miss one or two, who knows what he’s thinking about.

But even that, I don’t think really matters, I think he played his match. I think I got incredibly lucky today. And then as the match went on, I started to feel better again and, you know, all the pressure went away and I just tried to play.

“And again, got a little lucky to get the break, and I served really well, I think, for most of the match; at the end especially. So I don’t deserve this one, but I’m standing here and I’m obviously very, very happy.”

Roger Federer said he ‘believed in miracles’ during his 2020 Australian Open quarterfinal

When asked about his injury struggles during the contest, Federer replied: “There’s been a lot of tennis throughout my life, and sometimes you feel a little bit funny.
