Gervonta “Tank” Davis Is No Longer the Same Fighter He Once Was – Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson offered only one caveat when waxing lyrical about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to reporters this week, ahead of his Mike Tyson Invitational amateur event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gervonta Davis appeared set to become one of boxing‘s most important figures with rising box office numbers and reliable ticket sales across numerous key markets in the United States, including a thumping knockout win over Ryan Garcia in 2023.

However, the diminutive fighter has not boxed for a year — since his disputed draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Since then, he was linked with a crossover bout involving the internet sensation Jake Paul, but Netflix — or, indeed, Paul’s company Most Valuable Promotions — nixed the show after civil and legal issues came to light regarding allegations of domestic violence against ‘Tank’.

That hiatus may be over, with Davis linked with a summer return against former opponent Isaac Cruz, with a rematch possible, per reports.

For Tyson, there is no question over the Baltimore boxer’s excellence, however, he openly wonders whether he’s as serious today about the sport, as he used to be.

Tyson continued: “When he’s serious, he was a helluva fighter and nobody came close.”

Davis has long been associated with Shakur Stevenson, one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in the sport today, and a boxer whom is riding tremendous momentum of late with back-to-back victories over William Zepeda and, most impressively, Teofimo Lopez, in the last 12 months.

A match-up between Davis and Stevenson is one of the best bouts boxing could possibly book.

“He’s the only one I’d give a chance against Shakur,” Tyson said. “They’re scary fighters [Stevenson and others who box like him] because they’re sophisticated, but Tank is a force of nature. He’s the f****** man.

“It’ll be interesting, if Shakur handled this guy like Lopez… this is when I know it’s over for you if you fight Shakur [puts his gloves up], and you’re looking at him. That’s how I know it’s over. You need to bring constant action. Be on him constantly. Otherwise he’ll pick you apart.”

Golf Legend,Tiger Woods isn’t ruling out a return to the Masters. Ryder Cup captaincy also uncertain

Tiger Woods did not rule out a return to the Masters just under two months away, even as his immediate future appears to include just about everything but golf.

Woods again painted an uncertain future about when or where he plays next because of a seventh back surgery to replace a disk. He said Tuesday at the Genesis Invitational that he remains plenty occupied, mostly with trying to reshape the PGA Tour schedule.

“I thought I spent a lot of hours practicing in my prime,” Woods said. “It doesn’t compare to what we’ve done in the boardroom.”

Those hours also are an obstacle in his decision whether to be the U.S. captain for the Ryder Cup for the 2027 matches in Ireland. Woods turned down the job two years ago because he didn’t think he had the time to do the job justice.

Foremost this time of the year is the Masters, which Woods last played in 2024 when he made the cut for a record 24th time in a row. Woods is a five-time Masters champion.

Asked if playing the Masters, which starts April 9, was off the table, Woods replied without elaboration, “No.”

As for his golf anywhere — he turned 50 at the end of last year and is eligible for the PGA Tour Champions — Woods said he is still working his way back from the disk replacement surgery in October and has no timetable for a return. He has yet to play in the indoor TGL matches, either.

“Well, I’m trying — put it that way,” he said, adding that he can hit full shots but not every day “and not very well.”

Last year was the first time in his career he did not compete in a single tournament. He had surgery in March 2025 for a ruptured Achilles tendon, which is no longer holding him back. He said his lower back was sore, and at his age, “It’s probably going to take me a little bit longer.”

“My body has been through a lot,” Woods said. “Each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing, I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.”

His chief interest is indoors. He is on the board of the PGA Tour and the commercial PGA Tour Enterprises, heading the “Future Competition Committee” that is trying to create a model to meet CEO Brian Rolapp’s goal of fewer tournaments that are more meaningful for the best players.

The only thing clear is that a new model most likely won’t be ready by 2027. The committee has reached agreement on a big start to the season — that could be the week after or before the Super Bowl — taking the big events to bigger markets and becoming the must-see sport of the summer.

Another players-only meeting was scheduled Tuesday at Riviera. Rolapp is expected to pull back the curtain on some aspects at The Players Championship in March, with a little more clarity expected in the summer.

Among items under consideration is moving some prime California stops — Riviera and Torrey Pines get most of the attention — to August as part of the PGA Tour’s postseason.

“We’re looking at things like that, looking to go to bigger markets later in the year for the playoffs. Just trying to make our competitive model better, and how do we do that?” Woods said, adding that moving the Genesis Invitational to August “certainly is on the table.”

£28,000: In an emotional surge of support, the former heavyweight champion’s autographed fight-worn shorts raised a staggering £28,000 for a homeless charity in Oxford, turning a piece of boxing history into a lifeline for those in desperate need.

Signed boxing shorts from former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua reportedly helped raise nearly £28,000 for a homeless charity in Oxford during a dedicated gala event.

Dorchester Living, the housebuilder behind Heyford Park near Bicester, raised £28,000 in support of Homeless Oxfordshire.

Oxfordshire businesses, partners and supporters of Dorchester Living gathered for an evening focused on community engagement, entertainment and charitable giving.

Among the standout auction items were Joshua’s signed fight shorts, a brewery tour experience with Fuller’s Brewery and Reformer Pilates classes, alongside several other sought-after prizes.

Paul Silver, chief executive of Dorchester Living, highlighted the broader social objective behind the initiative.

“At Dorchester Living, we believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive place to call home,” he said.

“Supporting Homeless Oxfordshire’s ‘Her Way Home’ campaign is about more than raising funds; it is about helping to create spaces where women can feel secure, rebuild their confidence and shape a more positive future.

“The generosity shown at our charity gala reflects our commitment to making a lasting difference in the communities where we build.”

Tim Wraith, Partnerships Fundraising Manager at Homeless Oxfordshire, also expressed appreciation for the support.

“We are extremely grateful to Dorchester Living and everyone who contributed on the night,” he said.

“The funds raised will make a meaningful difference to women supported through the ‘Her Way Home’ campaign, helping us provide safe accommodation and specialist support at a critical time in their lives.”

‘WITH FULL RESPECT’ Anthony Joshua’s family make feelings clear on potential July boxing return as Brit continues recovery from tragic crash

ANTHONY JOSHUA’s family will “fully” support him if he chooses to return to the ring. AJ’s fighting future has been up in the air since the fatal car crash which killed his two close friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, in Nigeria last December.

Joshua, 36, miraculously escaped the horror smash with minor injuries by swapping seats moments before the ill-fated journey took place.

The former two-time unified heavyweight champion has yet to speak on his fighting future, although he has been training and spoken of plans to honour his late friends.

And according to his uncle Ademola, the entire Joshua family will throw their weight behind him should he choose to lace up his gloves again.

Ademola told Nigerian newspaper The Punch: “We are proud of him, very proud of him.

“The way we, the elderly, think is very different from theirs, but it is all at his discretion.

“He makes the full decision, and we have full respect for him, whatever he decides.

“Whatever he has decided within himself, we will support him fully.”

Watching his nephew – who last fought in December against Jake Paul – trade yet more blows with some of the hardest-hitting humans on the planet won’t be easy for Ademola.

He said: “Each time he’s knocked down, it is just like the heart is coming out of our chest.

“All these emotional feelings whenever he’s fighting, it’s too much trauma for us also.”

Ademola’s comments on AJ potentially fighting again come on the back of promoter Eddie Hearn revealing he’s tentatively targeting a July return for the Watford warrior.

Anthony Joshua

He told Boxing Scene: “[He was] due to fight in March, then fight Tyson Fury in August.

“That’s not happening anymore. He won’t be fighting Tyson Fury next.

“He’s going to come back late summer but physically he’s not in a position to return to camp.

“So I’m planning, but he’s just resting and preparing.

“We’ve really not had any solid plans to announce what’s next. I’m looking at options to get him in the ring in July time.

“But we’ll only know if that’s a real possibility when he returns to camp, which will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks.

“I think there’s nothing more that he wants at the moment than to return to training camp because it’s where he loves to be.”

Coach Speaks: He’s fighting who I want him to, Gervonta Davis coach confirms comeback plan

A big update has been given on the fighting future of Gervonta Davis. Davis hasn’t fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach Jr back in March 2025, having been involved in some serious legal issues since then.

He had been scheduled to take on YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in November, but those problems outside of the ring led to that bout being cancelled, and ‘Tank’ has subsequently been stripped of his WBA lightweight title.

Many boxing fans have wondered whether or not Davis may ever compete again, but his coach Calvin Ford has insisted to The Rize Podcast that ‘Tank’ will indeed return, and that he has a good idea who he will face.

“He will be back in the mix.

Tank has been doing this sh*t since he was seven-years-old. Sometimes you need that reset because that reset means a lot.

“I can’t wait. I already know who I would like to see for a comeback. The person I want to see him in the ring with is the one we’re going to fight. That’s why I can’t say yet. I’m campaigning for it.

“At the end of the day he has to make the decision on who he wants to fight, but I know it has to be the right opponent, especially for his fans so they can really say I support him. It has to be a fight where they can be like ‘yeah!’”

Davis remains one of the biggest names in the sport, and if he was to return, he is at the top of the hit list for one reigning world champion.

It’s Official: Charlie Woods Takes a Major Step Forward, Quietly Secures First Agency Deal

Charlie Woods last week announced that he would play college golf at Florida State, and he’s now signed with his first agency.

Sources said Woods, 17, has signed with Players Group Management, the same agency that represents his soon-to-be teammate at FSU, Miles Russell, the world’s top-ranked junior player. Woods will be represented by Allen Hobbs, who also reps Russell. Players Group Management declined comment when reached by SBJ. Woods, part of the 2027 class, does not yet have any NIL deals. Russell has deals with TaylorMade, Nike and Liberty National Golf Club, among others. Florida State’s golf team wears Nike apparel.

Other golfers repped by Players Group include Sahith TheegalaWill Zalatoris and Caleb Surratt.

Tiger Woods has long been repped by Excel Sports Management.

“Older men can’t compete with younger ones” Usyk addresses retirement plans

Unified heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk has opened up on his retirement plans, revealing that he has a ‘clear date’ in his mind for when he will hang up the gloves and hand over the baton as the best heavyweight on the planet.

Usyk is one of three fighters to have claimed the undisputed title in multiple weight divisions during the four-belt era and just the second fighter in the entirety of boxing history to have held the undisputed title at cruiserweight and heavyweight, after Evander Holyfield.

However, despite being cemented as one of the greatest heavyweights of the modern era, 39-year-old Usyk continues to fight on, expected to next face either Deontay Wilder or Rico Verhoeven, before he is mandated to take on Germany’s Agit Kabayel.

Although, speaking with Usyk 17 Promotions, the Ukrainian superstar revealed that he already has a date in his mind for when he will retire.

Anthony Joshua

“There is a clear date when I will tell people, ‘thank you, an older fighter can’t compete with a younger one, not physically, not in speed’. You have to understand, you’ve walked your path and now it’s the era of the younger guys.

“Whoever among them proves to be the strongest – in discipline, in the work that they put in, in patience, with the guts, that is the one [who will succeed me], that we will see with their hand raised and we will help them achieve this.”

Usyk has previously stated that he will retire at the age of 41 years old, meaning that the undefeated technician likely has two or three fights left before he walks away for good

Undefeated Ex-Champ Promises to Hand Gervonta Davis His First Knockout Defeat

It remains unclear when Gervonta Davis will return to the ring, but one unbeaten star has already vowed to knock ‘Tank’ out if given the chance.

Davis has not won a professional boxing contest since June 2024, with a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. being his only outing within the last 20 months, followed by the cancellation of his planned November exhibition bout with Jake Paul.

After being arrested for an alleged domestic incident, the 31-year-old was stripped of his WBA lightweight world title. Davis has since hinted at a move up in weight, stating his plans to rematch Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, though it appears he has plenty to deal with outside of the ropes before that becomes realistic.

On the ‘Come and Talk 2 Me’ podcast, former WBO lightweight world champion Keyshawn Davis shared his willingness to fight Davis should he return, promising he would hand the 31-year-old a first career defeat and do so without the aid of the judges.

“I was cool with you, until you said a mental health joke about me. I don’t really respect you, for real.

“You can fight, bro. You can fight. But, you know, since I was 16 and you was like 27 when we sparred, you already knew what type of timeline I was on.

“Now that I am in this position and I am all grown up now, if you ever would give me a chance to fight you, just be ready, bro, because I am not one of those people like you have been picking on and bullying that you know you can beat.

Anthony Joshua

“If you ever do want to fight me, which I think you’re not going to fight me because you know, just be ready. I am not playing with you and you are getting stopped.”

Despite the call out, it is believed that Keyshawn is not planning on sticking around at super-lightweight for long, having also demanded a showdown with WBO welterweight world champion Devin Haney during the aftermath of his latest win. Haney has said he is open to the challenge, and fans certainly are too.

Anthony Joshua Plots July Return on the Horizon But No Fight With Tyson Fury,After Devastating Crash —  Says Promoter

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is aiming for a return to the ring in July following his recovery from a devastating car crash in December, but a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury will not be his next bout, promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.

Joshua had been riding high after a sixth-round knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami when tragedy struck. While visiting family in Nigeria over the Christmas period, he was involved in a road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two close associates and members of his training team, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Joshua was hospitalised following the crash.

“[He was] due to fight in March, then fight Tyson Fury. That’s not happening anymore. He won’t be fighting Tyson Fury next,” Hearn said, adding that no firm plans have yet been finalised for the former champion’s return.

The immediate priority, Hearn explained, is Joshua’s full physical recovery and gradual return to training camp. “The focus for Anthony Joshua is to get back into training camp. He’s not ready to go back into training camp, physically, but it’s getting closer,” he said.

“I think there’s nothing more that he wants at the moment than to return to training camp because it’s where he loves to be.”

Hearn indicated that July is the likely window for Joshua’s comeback, with several potential venues under consideration around the world. Further discussions about opponents and logistics are expected once Joshua resumes full training in the coming weeks.

Eddie Hearn

Meanwhile, Fury is preparing for his own return to action. The former world champion is set to face Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 11. The bout will mark Fury’s first fight since his rematch defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

While fans may have to wait longer for a potential Joshua-Fury showdown, Hearn’s comments suggest that Joshua’s return to competition — and to full fitness — remains firmly on the horizon.

Terence Crawford was absolutely ecstatic as he watched his son capture a wrestling state championship.

Terence Crawford Jr., a 14-year-old freshman at Omaha North High School, won the Nebraska Class A 106-pound state title at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

The freshman navigated the state tournament with a 4-0 record, earning two pins along with a technical fall and a major decision. In the final, he defeated Grand Island’s Riley Pedersen by a 13-1 score to claim the title.

Crawford Jr. concluded his first high school season with a 36-6 overall record, underscoring a strong debut campaign. Following the victory, he reflected on the performance and the preparation behind it.

“It feels great. I just had to be dominant out there. I expect what I train for, so I know if I am training hard, then the results will show for themselves.”

The celebration highlighted a different side of the former champion, whose professional career spanned 17 years and included titles across five weight divisions.

With a state championship already secured as a freshman, Crawford Jr. has begun establishing his own competitive identity in Nebraska wrestling.
