Saudi Bout 2026: Anthony Joshua Has Been Approached for a Shock Next Fight Against a Kickboxing Legend, Promoter Eddie Hearn Reveals

Anthony Joshua is coming off a sixth-round knockout of YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami – but a return in Riyadh is already on the cards in early 2026.

And Hearn confirmed reports that kickboxing great Rico Verhoeven – who is 1-0 as a boxer and unbeaten in TEN YEARS – is a potential opponent.

He said on Ariel Helwani’s show: “Rico is a fight that has been mentioned by certain people.

“We’re straight forward, ultimately, we will field offers. We can do with a fight that will prepare us for Tyson Fury— which is a difficult thing to do style-wise — so we might look at other opponents as well.

“But we’re open at the moment.”

Joshua, 36, was in line to return as early as February 14 but after two months in camp and six rounds with Paul, 28, it could be delayed until March.

Verhoeven, 36, won his one and only boxing bout in 2014 and has not lost in the kickboxing ring since 2015.

The Dutchman’s last bout was in June, beating Russian Artem Vakhitov, 34, on points.

Joshua’s knockout win over Paul, 28, was watched by 33 MILLION viewers on Netflix as Hearn hailed him the sport’s biggest star.

He said: “This changes everything. People don’t like it when I say, AJ was already arguably the biggest star in boxing.

Anthony Joshua

“Now, by far the biggest star in boxing. Right now, there is absolutely no question that Anthony Joshua is the biggest star in world boxing.

“But how does that strategy change moving forward, particularly in the American market?

“Because I know how personable he is, how likeable he is, his brand has just been so easy to build with all his attributes over the years.

“And we can do the same in America, it’s a big market.”

Nothing But Vessel Of Lies, Eddie Hearn Fires Back After Jake Paul Claims He ‘Wobbled’ Anthony Joshua in the Ring

Eddie Hearn: Earlier in the month, American YouTube sensation Paul took on two-time world champion Joshua at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Despite putting up a good fight, Paul was floored by AJ for a final time in the sixth round, with the Brit securing a victory via TKO.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Impaulsive Podcast, Paul claimed that he had won two rounds and even had AJ wobbled.

He said: “I won two rounds, then he won two, then I got dropped. But I was doing good. I just think my cardio… just the mental pressure of the big guy and sparring the big people is different than the 10-ounce gloves. So I was feeling his power a lot more.

“It’s a great experience overall to be in there with someone who’s that good. I learned a lot and see where I could have done better. So I’m a little disappointed, but I also know how good he is. But I had him wobbled at one point. I had him wobbled, but he kept his hands up better this fight.”

Now, Joshua’s promoter Hearn has responded to Paul’s latest comments.

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Hearn said: “Listen, there was probably a round that was quite close because no one did anything, but I don’t know, it’s strange they haven’t released the scorecards.

“I’m sure if they had won rounds, MVP would’ve gone ‘Look!’. I don’t believe he won any rounds on the scorecards but maybe he did I don’t know.”

Anthony Joshua

He continued: “He definitely didn’t wobble AJ but he did land, he landed his biggest shots, there were couple of right hands from the Gods. But, he’s just not big enough, he doesn’t punch hard enough.

“I’m sure he got AJ’s attention but he certainly wasn’t wobbled but he did really well. You’ve gotta understand he was so far out of his depth, look how far he got, I didn’t expect him to go six rounds. His job was to survive. I actually shook his dad’s hand in the ring and said well done.”

Sinner: It Didn’t Feel Real, Carlos Alcaraz’s French Open Final Comeback Seen Through the Eyes of Someone Who Was There

Jannik Sinner: It was not until what appeared to be the dying moments of the French Open final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz that I realised it could be worth taking a photo of such a monumental occasion. This was, after all, the first grand slam final between the two players who seemed set to lead men’s tennis for many years to come

For three hours and 43 minutes Sinner had dominated Alcaraz and he earned three championship points while leading 5-3 in set four. Just before the Italian’s second championship point, I thrust up my phone and took a quick photo before my hand returned to my laptop, ready to file immediately an article that hailed his third consecutive major title and first triumph in Paris.

Instead, it would take another hour and 46 minutes for a winner to be decided on Court Philippe-Chatrier in June. What unfolded was one of the greatest comebacks and matches as Alcaraz returned from the abyss to produce an astounding 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) victory.

Even now, six months removed from that day, it is difficult to fully comprehend those events in Paris. For hours Alcaraz had been outhit and outplayed by his biggest rival and the then world No 1 in a major final. His dire unforced errors to fall 0-40 down at 3-5 in set four seemed to seal his fate. No one in the stadium believed a comeback was possible.

No one except Alcaraz. First he dragged himself back to deuce, completely locking down his game, then he soared. By the time he closed out his service game for 4-5 with an outrageous running forehand winner, the energy inside the stadium had shifted and the crowd met the moment spectacularly.

carlos Alcaraz

The stadium shook as most of the 15,000 present punctuated every successful point from Alcaraz with roars of encouragement and delight, to which the Spaniard responded by cupping his ears, pumping his fists and doing everything in his power to take advantage of their encouragement.

Once the momentum had been wrestled back, it seemed as if he would not let go. Alcaraz methodically worked his way through the fourth set, then broke serve at the beginning of the fifth and maintained his advantage until he led 5-3. Had he calmly closed out the match at his first opportunity, this would still have been a classic.

The final 30 minutes, however, are what truly established this contest as one of the all-time greats. Sinner, having spent the fifth set hobbling around the court, his energy destroyed, suddenly found a second, third and fourth wind all at once.

He retrieved the break and the level of play ascended into the stratosphere as, driven by desperation and adrenaline after five hours of battle, both players swung with total freedom.

Despite all that had already unfolded, the most memorable moment came in the form of the defensive slice Alcaraz struck deep in the fifth set as Sinner hunted his fourth championship point at 6-5, 30-30. No other player would have even put a racket on the ball, yet Alcaraz somehow turned that critical point around in one stroke.

He ended lasering winners at will from every part of the court as he closed out his fifth grand slam title in a match tie-break to seal his biggest triumph.

The Global boxing superstar Anthony Joshua pays surprise Christmas visit to Starfish Ward

Global boxing superstar and local hero Anthony Joshua paid a surprise visit to Watford General Hospital today – to hand out Christmas presents to children and thank staff for their ‘tireless’ dedication.

The two-time world heavyweight champion, who was born in the town, spent over 75 minutes meeting young patients and their parents on Starfish ward.

He was joined on the visit by another popular figure: Father Christmas, as he stopped to talk at their bedside, listen to parents, as well as pausing for dozens of selfies.

AJ paid tribute to staff after seeing at first hand the difference they make. “Today was all about trying to put the smiles on a few faces and to acknowledge the tireless work of NHS staff. I met some amazing kids and some inspirational parents. I was lucky Santa was available to help me out with a few small gifts.”

Grace Kersey, whose son Jayden is being treated in hospital, said: “It was such a surprise to see Anthony Joshua and Santa Claus. “It was a special moment and my son woke up just as he came to his bed. He was in shock but enjoyed it very much.”

Anthony Joshua

Ward manager, Kerry Beasley, said: “It was magical to have Anthony on the ward. It gave everyone such a boost – both patients and staff. “It can be a difficult time of year but today’s visit has re-energised people and lifted their spirits. To see the smiles on children’s faces is so heart-warming. “He took a lot of time to talk to patients, staff and visitors and was so kind and generous. It’s made our Christmas.”

AJ was born at Watford General in 1989 and has a long association with the hospital. The morale boosting visit was co-ordinated by Clean Herts Community, a company set up by AJ dedicated to supporting young people in the Watford area where he grew up.

A huge thank you to the brilliant team on Starfish Ward for accommodating the special visit today.

Not Just a Greeting: “A J” sends a not-so-subtle hint about a 2026 blockbuster bout in a pointed Christmas message aimed at Jake Paul.

British boxer Anthony Joshua has taken to social media to send a message on Christmas Day – hinting that bigger things are to come in the New Year. Joshua knocked out YouTuber Jake Paul in the sixth round of their controversial heavyweight fight in Miami last Friday.

Paul was knocked down twice in the fifth round before Joshua ended the fight in the sixth with a decisive right hand that left Paul with a broken jaw. Rumours had circulated before the fight that Joshua had agreed to take it easy, claims that both camps firmly denied.

“I needed to do better, It’s a win, but it’s not a success,” Joshua said afterwards. “I feel my coach expects more from me, and I expect more from myself.

“But what can we do? I can’t live off of that win.”

Saying he still has a lot of improving to do, Joshua added: “So, yeah, I’m not happy. I had boxing on my back today, and that is what it was really.

“I took Jake as serious as I needed to, but most importantly, I take myself as serious as I need to.

“You have to be prepared. One slip-up could cost you in that ring.”

Heading into the New Year, the 36‑year‑old has hinted that bigger things is on the horizon.

Gervonta Davis

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Christmas Day, he wrote: “A massive shoutout to the 33 million of you who tuned in to support me, Jake, and everyone on the undercard, and thank you to those who prayed for me during fight week.

“Enjoy the festive break if you’re celebrating, and have a blessed week if you’re not. Big things coming in the New Year, so stay tuned.

“We are all one under God’s eyes. God bless. Rastafari.”

Paul, on the other hand, also shared a message on the same social media platform. “God is great,” he wrote.

“Broken jaw but brain and spine all clear. Never been more motivated. Merry Christmas to all around the world.

Gervonta Lined Up for Explosive Super-Fight Rematch,“There’s Never Been a Fight Like This Before”

Gervonta Davis has been called out for a money-spinning rematch, most likely at a weight where he would be forced to contend with a considerable size discrepancy.

The 31-year-old has not fought since his controversial draw with Lamont Roach, who was ultimately denied a monumental upset victory in March.

Their lightweight encounter was then followed by the bizarre news that Davis, who still holds the WBA world title at 135lbs, would be entering an exhibition match with Jake Paul

The pair were supposed to meet at a catchweight of 195lbs on November 14, before ‘Tank’ was ruled out of their Netflix event due to fresh allegations of domestic violence.

Instead, Paul suffered a sixth-round stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua last Friday, with Davis still facing legal action from his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel.

As of now, it is difficult to gauge whether the Baltimore man will ever return to the ring, let alone defend his WBA title against a worthy challenger.

But, nevertheless, Ryan Garcia has now thrown his hat into the ring for a potential rematch, hoping to avenge his seventh-round stoppage defeat of 2023.

The 27-year-old is expected to challenge WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios this coming February, despite suffering a points loss to Rolando Romero in May.

Anthony Joshua

But while that does appear to be the plan, Garcia has nonetheless expressed his interest in a second encounter with Davis.

Sharing his thoughts on X, ‘King Ry’ signalled that he hopes to be involved in another blockbuster event, whether it be a Davis rematch or something of equal magnitude

“To be real there hasn’t been a fight like my fight with Gervonta. We brought OG super fight back for one night. I want to do another one like that.”

Garcia has made no secret that he wants to avenge his loss to ‘Tank,’ citing the rehydration clause as the reason behind the dominant defeat. As he now campaigns at 147lbs and doesn’t look to be dropping back down, running it back with the naturally smaller Davis seems more unlikely than ever.

Terence Crawford has issued a bold challenge to move up and compete in a sixth weight division, targeting boxing’s oldest reigning world champion.

Terence Crawford has established himself as a pound-for-pound great, but the unified super-middleweight champion could further add to his legacy, after being offered a world title shot in a new weight-class.

‘Bud’ first won a world title as a lightweight and the Omaha-born phenomenon has proceeded to pick up belts at super-lightweight, welterweight, super-welterweight and now super-middleweight – becoming boxing’s sixth five-division world champion.

As a result, the 38-year-old is now being linked to a move down to middleweight, where he could become just the third fighter in boxing history to reign in six different divisions, with WBC champion Carlos Adames being touted as a possible opponent

However, unpaid sanctioning fees have seen Crawford stripped of his WBC super-middleweight crown, whilst the three-belt middleweight unification clash between Janibek Alimkhanuly and Erislandy Lara has been cancelled due to a positive drugs test.

Consequently, a door has been opened for Crawford to challenge for middleweight honours with an alternate sanctioning body, as WBA titleholder Erislandy Lara and his trainer, Bob Santos, called for a clash with the undefeated sensation in an interview with K.O. Artist Sports.

“I’m going to say something on his [Lara’s] behalf, he is not a talker, but I am talker. ‘BoMac’ [Brian McIntyre], if you’re listening, you let Crawford know, any time, any place. Yes, you guys beat Canelo, he [Lara] beat Canelo too.

Terence Crawford

“We can do that fight any time, any place. It would be a great fight stylistically and this would be the most technical, most difficult fight, in my mind, that Crawford has ever fought.

“Styles makes fights and this guy’s style is a problem for anybody. He is the ‘Cuban Assassin’, from distance, he has got length, he has got speed, in that left-handed stance he can do a lot of different things.”

As Santos alludes to, Lara lost a controversial split-decision to Canelo back in 2014, but Guantanamo-born southpaw has since picked up world titles at both super-welterweight and middleweight.

At present, 42-year-old Lara remains as boxing’s oldest current world champion, but he is expected to attempt a defence of his title on Saturday night against a late-notice opponent following Alimkhanuly’s withdrawal.

“It’s Finally Happening” Frank Warren Drops Explosive Details on Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Showdown — Timing and Venue Revealed

The long-awaited showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury could finally hit screens next summer, with promoter Frank Warren hopeful of staging the British mega-fight at Wembley Stadium.

Anthony Joshua publicly reignited the rivalry after stopping YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul with a sixth-round knockdown in Miami last weekend, immediately calling out his long-time rival.

Neither man currently sits at the pinnacle of the heavyweight division, with both having been convincingly beaten by Ukraine’s outstanding champion Oleksandr Usyk. Even so, there is little doubt that a Battle of Britain between Joshua and Fury would be a massive box-office event.

Joshua is expected to return to the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February next year, but that date appears too soon for Fury, who is currently on holiday with his family.

Speaking to The Sun, Warren explained why February is unrealistic for the former champion:

“For him to go on holiday, come back, and be ready to fight in February is impossible.

I’m told AJ is definitely fighting in February, so it’s tight. If you’re putting it on at either Wembley or Riyadh, those are the only options — and I believe Wembley is the home for it.

Oleksandr Usyk

If it’s Wembley, you have to wait until the summer anyway. Tyson isn’t going to sit around for seven months before fighting, having already been out for nearly a year. But one thing’s for sure — he won’t be fighting a YouTuber.”

Joshua has faced criticism within boxing circles for lowering his level of opposition against Paul, with many refusing to take the bout seriously. The 36-year-old has since been linked to a crossover fight with kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven for his Saudi return.

Joshua’s four career defeats — two points losses to Usyk, along with knockout defeats to Andy Ruiz Jr. and Daniel Dubois — offer a clearer indication of the challenge he would face against Fury.

Fury, now 37, could make a comeback as early as April in a tune-up bout before potentially meeting Joshua. He announced his retirement in January following back-to-back losses to Usyk, though few in the sport believed it would be permanent.

Warren added:

“That would give him time to prepare and get ready, provided all the financials are right.

Anthony Joshua

I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago while he was travelling. With Tyson, it’s simple — ‘You know what my requirements are. If they’re met, I’ll be there on the night.’

He’s said he wants to. He’s not training for a fight yet, but he’s ticking over and keeping himself in decent shape.”

“I Made a Mistake” Jake Paul points to his ‘biggest mistake’ in Anthony Joshua debacle

Jake Paul has identified his “biggest mistake’’ related to his heavyweight fight against Anthony Joshua.

No, it is not failing to get his gloves up before Joshua delivered the knockout blow and broke Paul’s jaw in two places in Round 6.

Rather, Paul said he should have trained at high altitude before the fight Dec. 19 in Miami that was livestreamed by Netflix.

“That was my biggest mistake,’’ he said during a podcast co-hosted by his brother, Logan, that was published Dec. 23

In the first two rounds of the bout, Paul moved briskly around the ring, and Joshua struggled to land punches. But when Paul started to fatigue, Joshua caught up to him and the punches began to connect. Hard.

Joshua knocked Paul down two times in the fifth round and knocked him down two times in the sixth round. That included the knockout blow.

“Yeah, I was doing good,’’ Paul said before addressing what went wrong. “I just think my cardio, just the mental pressure of the big guy.’’

Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul said he felt good about his training camp and added, “But I just needed to have that extra level of cardio for this and that can only come from going to altitude.’’

The podcast was taped Saturday, Dec. 20, a few hours after Paul had surgery on his jaw, said his mother, Pam, who was on the podcast. Paul looked dazed during his appearance but talked in detail about the fight.

During training camp, Paul sparred with heavyweights. But during the fight, Paul and Joshua wore 10-ounce gloves – considerably smaller than the gloves worn during sparring.

“So I was feeling his power a lot more,’’ Paul said of Joshua. “…. I learned a lot, and I see where I could have done better. I’m a little disappointed, but I also know how good he is.’’

Toward the end of his app;earance, Paul also reiterated his intent to continue boxing but provided no timeable for his return.

“First Option” Oleksandr Usyk Names His Top Targets for Next Heavyweight Clash – Deontay Wilder

The Ukrainian stopped Londoner Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in July to become a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion.

Usyk, 38, then vacated his WBO belt, with Britain’s Fabio Wardley upgraded from ‘interim’ to full champion.

“I continue fighting next year. I want to fight Deontay Wilder. I think it’s interesting,” he told Boxing King Media.

Wilder, a former WBC world champion and once the division’s most feared puncher, has struggled since his trilogy with Tyson Fury.

The American’s stock plummeted after back-to-back stoppage defeats by Joseph Parker in 2023 and Zhilei Zhang in 2024.

After more than a year out, Wilder, 40, returned in June with a low-key seventh-round stoppage of little-known Tyrrell Anthony Herndon.

Despite that decline, Usyk still views ‘The Bronze Bomber’ as a marquee name.

“He is a world champion guy. A very famous and strong guy,” Usyk said.

Oleksandr Usyk

“One of the great heavyweights of the last 10 years. I spoke with my team and said he is the first option.”

Oleksandr Usyk chose to vacate his WBO title rather than face mandatory challenger Wardley. He may still be able to fit in a voluntary defence with Wilder if an opponent is agreed quickly, with several mandatory challengers with other organisations already tied up.

WBC ‘interim’ champion Agit Kabayel meets Damian Knyba on 10 January, while the IBF has ordered Richard Torrez Jr to face Frank Sanchez in a final eliminator. WBA ‘regular’ champion Kubrat Pulev is scheduled to fight Murat Gassiev on 12 December.

Usyk – who has twice beaten Fury, Dubois and Anthony Joshua – has previously said he plans to fight for only two more years, aiming to return to the ring in 2026.

The Olympic gold medalist became undisputed champion at cruiserweight before moving up to heavyweight, where he outpointed Fury to become boxing’s first undisputed champion in 25 years.
