“Retired British boxer with 3 stoppage losses boldly claims he would have defeated Terence Crawford”

It is almost a month since Terence Crawford defeated Canelo Alvarez, but the manner of the victory means that Crawford’s reputation is constantly being enhanced.

On September 13, Crawford defied the odds to deliver the best performance of his career as he outpointed the Mexican icon in Las Vegas .

Success brought Crawford the undisputed crown at super-middleweight and now fight fans are awaiting what the Nebraska man will do next

Options exist in various weight-classes, but one former world champion at 168lbs believes he would have had what it takes to beat Crawford if their paths ever crossed.

George Groves briefly ruled the world when he was WBA champion at the backend of his professional career.

The London man made two successful defences, including a win over Chris Eubank Jr, before he was stopped by Callum Smith in 2018.

Smith became the second man to beat Groves within the distance following on from Carl Froch who halted Groves twice.

Despite some defensive shortcomings at the highest level, Groves is insistent he would have had too much size for Crawford.

“I highly admire Crawford, but surely he wouldn’t have beaten me? I would have done him,” said Groves when speaking to Poker Strategy .

“I’m sure he’d back himself too. I think he’d have a problem with the bigger super middleweights.”
